Den-O is fun because the Imagin are all insane and pay off of any other Riders in interesting ways.

Decade is Decade.

Shinnosuke works well in a lot of different scenarios and with different Riders because he's more grounded than other characters. He's a damn good police officer with a dedication to his duty as a Rider, and seems to generally play "responsible straight man" to other ensembles.

That's why it was pretty funny to see Terui/Accel show up in the movie, because the two characters are pretty similar.

Shinnosuke made Gou looked like shit, Chase looked like a nobody, Heart and gang were just the stupid trio, Freeze was a big joke, and nothing for Banno.

Shin's great because he's flexible. He can be a straight man in one scene and smoothly transition into a spazzy goofball the next. It fits in with how he can channel his hot passion with Type Wild one moment and then channel his cool calmness with Type Technic after. So basically, he's the type who can be whatever you need him to be at any time.

He's the opposite of Decade, who's always Decade no matter what scene he's in and no matter who he's interacting with. Decade was designed to interact with a huge variety of characters, so he has a very strong personality and presence, so he's capable of interacting with anyone without really changing much.

Shinnosuke is the first Rider i've seen go from silly kinda dumb your usual main rider to a fucking mentor like figure.

The whole central theme of the show was finding your "drive." Shinnosuke kept holding himself back because he was unmotivated and affected by the Global Freeze and his father's death. As he starts slowly dealing with his issues during his time as Drive, he becomes more and more dedicated to his roles both as a cop and a Kamen Rider.

Shinnosuke is actually one of the better developed main Riders in the series. He has actual, appropriate growth over time and you can see how much he's changed from the beginning of the series to the v-cinemas.

I helped some with QA on that, we fixed parts that were really horrendous (typos, takenoko's insistence on using "you guys" for every fucking pronoun), but it's still probably not that accurate since I don't speak a lick of Japanese, and Ragnarock I don't think knows much more.

That being said it uses the nice, shiny 60fps Bunnyhat raws, so it at least looks nicer. It would be nice to have a whole resub project for the series, but barring that it's the best you'll get.

Movie Wars Genesis can happen just fine right after the first gathering of Eyecons, thanks to a retcon from a post-series special, although there are still some oddities.

The movie actually IS canon since it's referenced by a Ghost post-series special, by Drive's novel and by the new Heisei Generations, but it's filled with contradictions and inconsistent characterization. The movie even contradicts ITSELF - Takeru reminisces his father's death at a certain point of the movie and sets out to stop his death - but then that original death never comes up at all to be stopped, and he dies in a completely unrelated way - the tv show later references his original death that Takeru remembers rather than the one caused by the movie's time traveling.

Genesis also showed Saionji alive while he was killed in the tv show before Specter joined Takeru - but the post-series special solves this issue since it reveals Saionji was "alive" (kind of) all along and still working with the Ganma. So, Genesis can take place after the first gathering of Eyecons thanks to the special.

The special also explains why Da Vinci is a villain.

Basically, as the newest Rider, they had to make W look good. That's why W's the one who ends up defeating the main villain of All Riders VS Dai-Shocker, the same villain who beat the shit out of both Decade and Rising Ultimate Kuuga. That's why W ended up defeating Shocker's giant skull robot in Movie War 2010 and his fight took up most of the third act, even though the movie was originally supposed to be Decade's big finale and W was only supposed to have a 20 minute short film before the movie started, similar to Super Sentai. W wasn't originally supposed to have equal billing with Decade in that film.

Really, don't you find it odd that it's always W who ended up defeating both of Decade's strongest enemies?

It never got as bad as Decade/W, man.

In The Gaia Memories of Fate, W only defeated one of the minor villains and never even met Eternal. In Movie War Core, W and OOO were more or less equals. In OOO Wonderful, Fourze only helps OOO push back the boss a bit, acting primarily as support. In Movie War Megamax, OOO actually gets to show off more than Fourze does. While Wizard does show up Fourze in Movie War Ultimatum, Fourze was never depicted as one of the stronger Riders to begin with. Anyway, this goes on and on.

Decade, for some reason, never really gets to shine much in movies. In Super Hero War, Marvelous tended to get better fight scenes than Decade did, and overall received better treatment in-suit (at the expense of pretty much having zero character out of it). In Neverending Story, Decade doesn't really get to do much in fights. In Heisei VS Showa, Decade spends the entire movie jobbing and getting shown up by Gaim. It's like whenever Decade shows up in a crossover, he's destined to perform poorly.

Decade introduced a lot of new concepts. Even when it didn't, the concept of introducing the next Rider in the previous Rider's film was pretty new at the time as well, with only Den-O/Kiva doing it prior. They were settling into a lot of things.

Still, Decade does job a lot nowadays. It feels like the only reason they keep bringing him back is to have him get his ass kicked for whatever reason.

Decade never used anything stronger than Hibiki. In fact, you'll find that Decade doesn't really use most of his abilities much. He never uses Dimension Kick in either Neverending Story nor Heisei VS Showa. He also hasn't used Blast in a long time, and almost never uses Complete Form.

I like the Fourze story, but the Wizard one is boring and the crossover has way too many annoying bits (Eiji arriving without any context, Fourze jobbing all the time against the Akumaizer to make Wizard look better, never using any of his abilities, the whole "oops, we'll leave now right before the final boss appears" scene).

A bunch of internal problems including multiple writers who couldn't agree on where they wanted the story to go, resulting in the series' non-ending and the epilogue movie being a complete mess totally different from what we were apparently supposed to get.

Decade the Rider is great. Decade the show is awful.

Little, unoriginal idea here.
Take a rider show, swap the main rider with the secondary or tertiary, and work the gimmicks around them instead of the original hero. The best example I can give is Fourze.
