***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

They are pretty good although much like MGs the older they are the shittier they'll probably be. They also require a lot more seam welding and detail painting. These are definitely intermediate level kits.
>>
>>14916604
Frame Arms are good kits, but they're a bit fragile compared to your average bandai kit.

Also it's close enough to the 8th that I'm fine with posting the Groupbuild entries now. Lemme finish a few more things and I'll start dumping them.
>>
>>14916641
I'm ready for mine to get shit on.

503KB, 3000x1500px
Alright, getting this show on the road. Starting with the guys who said they couldn't/didn't want to be entered into the contest. Other than that there's no order to the entries asides from date submitted.

First off is the Beni-Shiki, a Hyaku Shiki painted up like Knight of Sidonia's Benisuzume. Nice clean decal work on this one
>>

X2 - GN-X Overflag Head.jpg
138KB, 1800x1000px
Next up is an odd-man out in the entries: an MG GN-X with an Overflag head painted up in Graham's Black/White colorscheme. Other than that, no real changes, but the headswap works well for some reason.
>>

X3 - GM Striker.jpg
775KB, 2400x3200px
Last of the non-entries is this neat asymmetrical GM Striker paintjob. I would've kept the Striker's original shield instead of a regular EFSF shield, but that's just me.

01 - Graze Knight Custom.jpg

Onto the main contest entries now. First up is the Graze Knight Custom, an entry from a first timer. The paint's a bit rough, but the concept is there.

02 - GM Custom Blue Buster.jpg
324KB, 1800x2340px
Moving onto the GM Custom Blue Buster, a mishmash of GM and Guncannon and Jesta parts that work pretty well together at the end. Paintwork is nice and clean too, which helps bring it all together.

04 - Zaku I Sniper Paltuscine.jpg
176KB, 1600x1347px
A bit of a hard name to type out, let alone pronounce, the Zaku I Sniper Paltuscine shows that even a Zeek can make pink look good. I would've done something for a new backpack though.

05 - Astaroth High Mobility Type.jpg
267KB, 2400x1600px
IBO kits were always great custom fodder due to their frames and designs, and this Astaroth High Mobility Type is no exception. I would've painted the reds something else, but the minor touch ups are enough to make it stand out.

Self-described as a flashy racing suit, the Graze White Midnight is a really solid entry. Take note of the added details in the thrusters and wiring

09 - G-Bouncer Ground Type.jpg
358KB, 2400x2264px
Being one of the few non-UC/IBO entries, this G-Bouncer Ground Type is pretty rad. I wish the builder could've finished the Space-Type equipment for this entry, but the set he did finish is still good.

Really solid paintwork here on the RX-78-R Gundam Reinforced Type. Described as a in-between of the regular and Full-Armor Gundam, it trades out heavy armor for various hard-points for different equipment.

>>
>>14916683
Very nice, very clean paint job

>>14916689
See above

>>14916692
The beige is well done, the blue is... interesting. Not a fan of the colour scheme, but that's just my opinion

>>14916702
This is why you use primer. If you did the black like that on purpose, it doesn't look good. Regardless, keep trying!

>>14916710
Not a fan of the colour scheme, but the paint job's good for the most part. The left shoulder looks like it has some weird bubbling

>>14916715
This is impressive, although I would have toned down the weathering (but again, personal opinion).
>>
>>14916725
My biggest gripe with this is that there was no seam welding, so you see big lines down the shoulder and head, which are highlighted by the pink. The pain job itself is very nice though, and the lines are straight and crisp

>>14916730
Nice kitbash, great detail painting. Shame it didn't get a full paint job (I'm not blind, it's not painted, right?)

>>14916735
Seam welding, primer, and masking tape could have helped the guns turn out a lot better. Also, the fact that the 005 are misaligned gets to me. Neat kitbash though.

>>14916745
Weathering clashes with the plastic; a matte coat would have helped a ton. The backpack is a clusterfuck (yes, I know it's supposed to be). Also, I'm pretty sure this isn't even panel lined.
Oh, and what's the point of a light box if there is no light?

>>14916755
This one is pretty nice. Dig the colour scheme, although I feel like the glitteriness of the inner frame detracts from it. The gloss parts look very nice, and I would say the paint job is solid, except for the red detailing. The lines of the red detailing aren't very crisp, and the detailing on the butt-thrusters doesn't look so hot

>>14916764
Paint job on this one too is very solid. Very nice build. Not a fan of the red decals, but I feel like the white did need to be broken up a bit

>>14916771
I like this one a lot. Although simple, it's quite solid looking and has a very nice paint job and colour scheme

>>14916776
I've already given my two cents on this one, but in summary: paints weren't thinned correctly, white needs a ton of work, masking tape would have been a god send. Keep practicing man, you'll get there sooner rather than later.

And here's all 14 entries together in one image for easy viewing.

Voting is gonna be done in a three-vote system (3 points go to your first choice, 2 go to your second, 1 goes to your third. Don't choose the same entry three times, or your vote won't count) Whoever has the most points at the end is the victor. There's also a poll at the end for the non-entries but that's just for funsies.

On the prospect of more group builds, I'd be up for organizing more, but they most likely will not have prizes for them (Only reason why I'm doing it for this one was because I had a spare giftcard lying around). Having a themed build for people in the thread to work around isn't a bad idea though.

That's the thing. I'm interested in painting, my dad even has an air compressor and for some reason a pretty cheap but workable airbrush that I can use but I just don't have time right now to go over there and try things out, and now that it's getting colder that adds another layer to it as well. So most of it is just sitting there because I'm trying to think if I want it painted or not. What I can do is snap the parts out, get it all ready for painting with filing and sanding, and then prime/paint on a later date.

An in-line water trap for right before the airbrush is very nice to have, since the big water traps don't always catch everything, and an airbrush cleaning kit.

Otherwise, a shitton of eye droppers and epoxy mixing cups for dripping and thinning your paints. Also a fuckton of alligator clips to put on bamboo skewers or lengths of sprue and a hunk of styrofoam to jam them into.

I personally hope that the 1/100 S2 designer color suits get a reprint. I don't actually care about the colors, I want to have a full suite of LED S2 gundams. They haven't been reprinted in years though so it probably won't happen. Even so I still have hope that it will be a good month.

Okay guys so .. I haven't watched Gundam and my Knowledge about is very basic. I really dig some designs tho.

I have never build a modelkit but i played alot of Warhammer 40K 3-4 years ago and
i know alot of techniqes ect. when it comes to glue, pin, paint and decorate stuff.
Should is still start with a noobie model eh i mean a HG? Or can i start straight with a MG Model ?

Also, another question:
Are those Models Prepainted ? So i basicly only need to Put them Together, Slap on some Decals and if i want to "Weather" them ?

Sorry for all of my questions and my bad english, I'm just a German dude with too much sparetime.

HG MG or RG is just really a preference on price or avalibilty of a kit (as well as detail and posibilty)a lot of the newer MGs and other kits are prepainted but may need extra detail if you want ie a little paint here or some panel lining or top coat and some (like the white ogre zaku) will only look good if weathered. but essentially you can just snap it together decal it and youre dunzo bunzo
>>
>>14921488
Gundam models aren't pre-painted, but they have very high color separation, meaning you generally only need to paint small details for the kit to look like it does in the show. Most of the plastic is already the color it's supposed to be without any paint at all. They also don't require glue, everything is designed to snap together. That said, the techniques you know will help you make your kits look better than someone who doesn't know them.

The difference between HG and MG is mostly a difference of size and of how many different kits are available. There are fewer MGs than HGs, and while MGs have more parts and detail, they're also much bigger, which may make it harder to display a lot of them if you don't have a lot of display space. There's also RGs, which have the best traits of both, but there are only a small number of RGs, mostly of the lead hero Gundams.

None of the kit types are especially tough to learn, so go with whatever you like.
>>
>>14921488
>Should is still start with a noobie model eh i mean a HG? Or can i start straight with a MG Model ?
High Grades are simpler and smaller, Master Grades are bigger and usually have full articulation, and Real Grades are smaller Master Grades. Don't go for Perfect Grade though, those are huge as shit, about the cost of a Scout Titan miniature, and are meant to just stand in the middle of your collection.
You probably shouldn't need to glue or pin Gundam kits if you get the newer sets, they'll snap together just fine.
>>
>>14921500
I would say some of the older mgs like Ez8 may need a bit of glue depending if the plastic is warped or not because i had to glue the chest on to get it to fit right
>>
>>14921488
your questions are basically answered, but just curious, what are some designs you like

I really have no clue if this Mech is used by the Good guys or the Bad guys. . But i like it.

Except for the Zabi. And Zanscar. And what Char was doing was pretty fucked up. And Jupiter is evil by default. And the titans and Haman's axis zeon were pretty evil. And....

That one's used by the Space Wehrmacht, so average people led by cunts, but the other side also has a decent number of cunts in leadership positions.

The original Gundam was pretty grey in that regard.

Also, most of ZZ gundam suits are phat asses.

Belongs to Zeon.

They were for "Spacenoid independence" which was really just a flag to wave for the Zabi family who were dictators making a power grab for the earth and other colonies and hijacked the zeon movement after assassinating its founder.
>>
>>14921562
Nah, original gundam has the most "Good guy" EF outside of Victory gundam. It's later installments that showed them having a bunch of corruption and asshats in the leadership.

if you like those designs, you're in luck. there are alot of really good kits for them, both hg and mg. just pick a design and go nuts. i like the dom better, but thats my opinion. just basically type zeon mobile suits and go crazy.
get "newer" kits, they have better articulation, details, build quality, and stull like that

Most kits will come with a shield and a beam saber, so you're covered as far as that goes. If you'd rather get physical melee weapons, go for a Zeon kit from MSG, War in the Pocket, or 08th MS Team, or any kit from IBO. Look at some stuff on dalong.net, I'm sure you'll see something that looks good there.

"Gunpla is Freedom".

Crap builders use it to justify mistakes or slipshod paintjobs, but its supposed to mean basically "It's your model, do what you want with it".

Just remember to remove nub marks and thin your paint.

And customizing and kitbashing is greatly encouraged, both in the community and by Bandai itself.

So I've build a handful of kits at this point after getting into the hobby early this year and I finally ordered a package from Japan. Problem is I chose registered SAL for shipping

>SAL

Shut up I've learned my mistake. Since it was registered I know that it left Japan on the 26th of October heading for the States. I'm just wondering whether or not I'll get another tracking number when it reaches the US or if it will just show up one day unexpected
>>

>I'm just wondering whether or not I'll get another tracking number when it reaches the US or if it will just show up one day unexpected
It depends. The second to last package I got, the shipping updated when it hit US shores. The last pacakge, I waited two plus months, and the shipping info only updated the day AFTER I signed for it at my front door.
>>
>>14921604

Gunpla is way more accepting of OOB builds, since they are more mass market.

Comp builds are pretty much insane amounts of work, and resin builds are insane, though.

Anybody know what this Deathscythe Hell is? It's not a Gunpla kit, since it was prepainted and assembled, but I recall getting it as a kid like years ago from some second-hand store or something.
It's smaller than a 1/144, and made out of a soft plastic like polycaps. I've only recently gotten into Gunpla but this thing has remained a real mystery. Excuse the shitty phone pic.

So I'm looking to take the plunge into Gunpla, and I'm probably gonna start with the G-Self and RX-78. Are there any other mobile suits that share the bubbly gel bits most noticeable on Self's knees? Both in terms of material or design. They look like they're supposed to be glowy bits, but they end up coming off as round and soft. Maybe it's not intentional, but I think it looks really nice. And is there a name for the little green grid on the desk?

Is Reconguista in G worth watching? There's a lot of designs I'm really feeling.
>>
>>14922241
Don't get the G-self, it's shit. I believe one of the burning models has those knee things you like, but overall that design choice isn't that common.

Unfortunately G-Reco has some pretty sub-par kits is my, and the general opinion. Most of them are sticker central, which can be really frustrating, especially to a beginner, and have average at best engineering.

The blue 'gel' you're talking about is really just light blue transparent plastic. It's also on things like the Try/Kamiki Burning Gundam, which despite Try being shit, are great kits.

The little green grid is called a self-healing cutting mat.

Hey guys. I just kinda jumped into this hobby on a whim. My friend started recently, so I'm familiar with the procedure, but we went to the local hobby store and I picked one up without doing any real research on the model itself.

I picked up this Gundam Wing 1/100 HG #4 XXXG-OOWO, and it's cool but it was made in 95 and I'm having a hell of a time panel lining it. Is this just my lack of experience? Are the modern builds made more convenient? Someone please tell me it gets easier.
>>
>>14922556
Well, you would do well to use the liquid-type panel lining markers or proper panel washes (glosscoat first!), because those lines are way too thick.

Panel lining should accentuate features, not draw them. Still, don't worry; the more you build the better you'll get.
>>
>>14922595
I did panel wash those lines, but I didn't glosscoat. I'll try that next time, is the difference that stark?
>>
>>14922605
The gloss coat helps protect the plastic, as panel washing can brittle the bare plastic.
>>
>>14922605
Glosscoat lets you use thinner to remove the excess without having to worry about the plastic melting. This helps a lot in cleaning up the lines. I'm assuming you're using an enamel wash, of course.
