Thinking back on it, the grappler arms from Outlaw Star were a pretty unique concept with an actually pretty solid basis in reality. It's not uncommon for space shuttles and whatnot to have mechanical arms on them. It kind of makes me wonder why no other mecha show has ever incorporated something like this since. Perhaps it just seems like you could say, why have robot arms when you could just have a whole robot? But still, they pulled it off so well in Outlaw Star, you'd think someone else would have tried the idea.
Also, Outlaw Star thread why not.
Anyone see doujinshi or rule 34 of her with that proto-Pepe ayy lmao?
I find it funny how many people still bitch about the arms when it's flat out explained in the show that they arose from construction, exploration and other civilian-use ships where manipulator arms would be necessary for function. And how pirate adapted what was available to them to fit their needs of capturing ships in space.
The last thing you'd want to do as a pirate is blow up the valuable booty you're trying to plunder.
It's those grappler arms which remind me of an old sci-fi RPG called Star Frontiers starship supplement Knight Hawks. Some ships could be equipped with grapples to grab another ship, though those grapples were not as useful as the Outlaw Star's arms. But the concept was almost the same. It's kind of revived our old interests in the game and adapt the ship for the RPG.
He's saying that ayy lamkoao is the only constant variable way for a hentai doujin to be boner inducing, unless by boners you mean instead of penises getting erect you're getting an actual skeleton which doesn't seem possible because if yuou don't have an actual skeleton then how do you type at a computer because wiothout bones you cant use fingers and you just slap at a keyboard like "Asfdgilaehrsgouiasghrpihars" withg your floopy boneless malformed pseudo-hands unless by boner you mean both at the same time meaning referrign to getting a skeletionb and a n erection at the same time or getting erected and then passing your skeleton out your sausage organ
Or, instead, because wiothout bones both at the you cant use passing your skeleton a hentai doujin have an actual if yuou don't just slap at do you type to be boner referrign to getting inducing, unless by He's saying that skeleton then how floopy boneless malformed time or getting the only constant variable way for "Asfdgilaehrsgouiasghrpihars" withg your getting erect you're a skeletionb and at a computer skeleton which doesn't fingers and you seem possible because pseudo-hands unless by instead of penises At the same ayy lamkoao is a keyboard like same time meaning boner you mean getting an actual boners you mean erected and then. Erected and then.
But the thirding option be that Saying and use the Or, boneless getting the seem a variable actual because pseudo-hands He's of instead, floopy to your the mean which meaning for referrign instead same ayy you lamkoao have fingers computer skeleton is and keyboard how you you and then penises time boners boner a you or only at skeleton possible then. At skeleton possible then. You're that actual time at cant passing do and same by by erected At type "Asfdgilaehrsgouiasghrpihars" erect getting malformed your just skeleton a an at withg both unless bones a getting like constant an way skeletionb inducing, unless wiothout if yuou be mean to don't boner doujin doesn't hentai you getting because slap Erected. Getting because slap Erected.
Dude wants to know if there's any porn of Hilda and Swanzo.
I love Outlaw Star. My absolute favorite anime ever.
I waifu'd both Aisha and Suzuka.
Yes, look at all that fur. Such a disgusting disgrace.
The only thing unrealistic is being able to wield a fuckhuge axe like that.
They show plenty of other things in the show that make way more sense. A small gun with not too much power (so not much recoil), a buzzsaw that has an internal battery so that it works even if the ship is out of power, and a few more things.
Probably the single best show Toonami ever aired. I loved that song they played during the promos:
>Wild West, Y2K Style.
>Pointy Eared Aliens
Aisha's pretty much responsible for every fetish of mine that's not weird transformation stuff.
OH WAIT, SHE DOES THAT TOO!
Aisha is love.
Aisha is life.
>wonder why no other mecha show has ever-
Do you remember love?
>Are there toys/models for this series?
Well, there actually IS. Or was. Japans put out a resin model kit of the ship back in 1998, but it was already rare then. Some guy from Mexico made recast of it, and when I found it on Ebay - I bought in right away. Pretty nice recast, I've put it away for future build. Recaster also have Melfina's figure, but I did'nt get her.
Sadly, he didn't have anything in stock right now, but you can try to contact him by message on Ebay, here you go:
Or, on next week I can try to find my own kit and give you his email, I remember it was in manual for reviews and complains.
Besides this, there was a figure release stateside. Was part of a line where they picked a few shows and the set was two characters and a vehicle (I seem to recall it had Escaflowne with Van and Hitomi, Big O with Roger and Dorothy, and for OLS it was the XGP with Gene and Melfina.)
Yes, and honestly, it was pretty shitty. Not my pic, but you can get view on figures. Ship itself got lot errors in appearance, and need to be repaintd to get proper anime looks. Figures, well... They looks like modern crude chinese bootleg. But they isn't. That's why I wasn't buying that box and was hoping to get resin kit. Too bad there NO ANY kits of Aisha. Not even one. Only two or three Melfinas, one canonical from Japan (sometimes avaliable on e2046) , and two fanservice versions with big boobs and slutty poses.
Also there was little bit more sets in that series, for example here Cowboy Bebop
>Just a heads up, these just started showing up in stores this past week, Escaflowne, Big O, Outlaw Star, all sets have a SRP of 14.99. The Big O seems to be the little Gem of the first assortment. Bandai will be doing more of these, another Escaflowne, and Big-O set is on the way as well, as Cowboy Bebop and Pilot Candidate.
Anyway, what the fuck is Pilot Candidate????
I hope, I'm only one who think that Melfina looks absolutely disguisting. But that kit exist.
That Mel is old Japan's kit recast from late 90s. Sadly, it's also long time not avaliable, but her face, errm. Anyway, It's second kit of her.
WAIT A MINUTE!
There was Aisha's figure kit! And of course, it's totally long out of produce. Dammit. And only two or three pictures of kit in web. Looks like totally short run sometime in late 90s.
>There is caster replica
Yep, Blind Squirrel made it. $250 for kit, and of course, long time sold out.
You got that. I'm russian, and right at this moment I'm drunk, so clicking on right buttons and making proper sentenses more harder for me then ever. I hope, you understand my words all above, or maybe part of them.
That looks like something Bruce Timm designed while drunk on a court order.
It's based on that Melfina Unit 2 from that one doujin Mogudan did. Back before Mogudan went full Rei.
US name for Candidate for Goddess. Pretty forgettable short series based that got canned, only to carry on in a manga that also never officially ended because the author sort of got bored with it.
Was picked to be part of the starting line for Adult Swim's Saturday night action block back in the day, thus giving it its fifteen minutes of fame in the west, leading to said figure.
Honestly, you're not missing a whole lot.
It's still astonishing that they actually licensed and bothered to dub a show that was cancelled after a few episodes. No wonder the anime industry in the west collapsed in the mid 2000s.
wait wait wait, hold up, they're gonna start selling the swordfish II again?
sign me the fuck up, my dick is already reaching for the stars
>pirate adapted what was available to them to fit their needs of capturing ships in space.
Exactly, most ships came with anchor launchers the very least and the more expensive ones came with varying types of grappler arms.
Pirates casued the proliferation of them due to their ambush/grappling tactics so they could steal your shit regardless of what ranged weapons you had. It's important to note that energy barrier/shield technology is exceedingly rare in the OLS universe, and throw in things like sensor/radio jammers, camera drone systems, anti-missiles... space combat is pretty damn hard.
Not that shocking.
Back at the time, anime was the new hotness and companies were willing to take a chance on almost anything. Plus, they probably got it for cheap, which likely helped.
A large chunk of ADV's stable was done on the philosophy of 'what can we get for chump change to build up enough money so we can splurge on something really good?'
Which, in hindsight, was likely what fucked them when the internet allowed people to realize a lot of what they were getting was picked mostly because they could get it for a song, but it wasn't a bad run they had before that point.
Yep, but we do see the space navy make one appearance and wreck the shit out of some pirates by using conventional weapons.
Of course, it seemed that the episode was only there to setup the Angel Links spinoff, which the entire universe would have been better without.
You are not alone.
Yes, that probably would've been the optimum method for screwing with him, but I'm here to actually educate some of them.
Granted I do it with more of a drill sergeant approach, but fuck em. They deserve a little bit of malice.
Why is Aisha the cutest?
And why doesn't she have any good porn?
1. Because she's the best.
2. Because Outlaw Star wasn't technically all that well appreciated in Japan as it was in the US (really good sales indeed to justify bringing it to the US, but not enough of a moneymaker like, say, Tenchi Muyo domestically).
Not only mass, but the energy to move that mass is halved in zero-g because you have no ground to brace yourself on to push your melee weapon forward.
Yes, you have the engines which could provide forward momentum, but you're still throwing weight away from the center of mass of the ship to swing the axe in an arc for a strike.
So any melee weapon in space is silly, but Outlaw Star is a show that runs on silly and rule of cool.
Remember, Gene has a gun that literally shoots magic spells. There are sentient cacti that can control your mind. There are magical Chinese space pirates carving out an empire for themselves. And let's not forget that Spit Sperm shop.
>Remember, Gene has a gun that literally shoots magic spells.
In fairness the way they explain it in-universe is actually pretty solid.
>There are magical Chinese space pirates carving out an empire for themselves.
If the chinese got into space exploration you know the triads would get involved
> And let's not forget that Spit Sperm shop.
That's just a KMFDM reference
One cool tech that I noted again in this was the HUD projector. It was basically a tiny complex laser pointer that beamed the image overlay directly into Jean's eyes when piloting. No need for big screens taking up resources, or bulky helmets that distract the operator.
What is neat is that if we really wanted to we could actually build these now, although it still has a number of smaller design issues to be worked out.
DARPA get to it, I want one!
First thing I thought of. After all you only build the parts you need, and legs in space is silly.
Anime has had many fine ladies in the years before and since Outlaw Star, but none of them will ever match up...
Why do you seem upset?
Saying "don't take it seriously" doesn't belittle it in any way. It was made to be silly and fun and in that it succeeds spectacularly.
>Just notice her holding the bone with a napkin.
Hah! Here, have some weird Aisha fanart.
