Gunpla / Plamo General

***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!
Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

All I want to see is a motive. Just a reason as to why this one guy has spent the last eight months of his life almost daily filling up a thread with the same images over and over. Is he bad at building model kits and was shunned because he was told to git gud? Is he mad that these threads are fairly populated? Did a 1/12th scale RX-78-2 rape his mother as a kid? Or is it just a simple "not /m/" spam? What would bring a man to care this much about a single thread on a Taiwanese automaton board?
Also good job jinxing it.
dammit, ok! third time is the charm, and sorry for spamming
I started doing Try Burning hg and I'm having problems with its blue transparent parts, some parts are too thick and goes white after cutting, what should I do to clean them with less damage possible?
I think it is the former
probably a shitter who's no good and didn't put any effort on anything, people pointed it out and he went on an autistic rage
I do hope he gets run over by a truck or something
Even if most of them are infamous for being ripoffs of other properties, some of them are pretty neat.
"I can't believe it's not Char"-flavored.
I'm thinkin of going with Nu Gundam colors with mine, should look nice.
Have some lineart for editing
No, but here are some Diaclone powered suits.
If he really was a mod he should just come out and post under a purple name. The spamming is pointless though since Gunpla has been a part of /m/'s rules since inception, and will stay for quite some time.
posting some old work to motivate me to finish some kits.
man, its an honor to make the op again, despite the spammer sperging the fuck out.
I think im gonna sacrafice my EZSR Red Rhino for this build. as much as i loved this kit for some reason I just fell out of love with it fast. the weak as fuck gimicky feet didnt help
A year ago he posted his crappy snap fit, nubby, unlined kits and nobody circlejerked him like on reddit, so upon realizing that /m/ has no mods or janitors he started spamming and shitposting for attention. He tries every now and again to do the same on /toy/ but the mods there delete his posts whenever they notice them and the gunpla thread there has mostly learned to ignore him.
He isn't a mod. Either the people supposedly getting banned were the shitposter himself claiming it or a random mod didn't understand what was going on and threw out a ban for what he thought was abusing the report function. If he was a mod he would just be deleting the threads or peoples posts outright.
And a mod has temporarily banned him before and we managed to have a couple threads without him in them.
Good job mods, if you're still reading this, stick around.
>or a random mod didn't understand what was going on and threw out a ban for what he thought was abusing the report function
I wasn't banned but WAS warned for reporting shitposting so there we have it.
PRAISE THE MODS
tfw this whole time no one actually reported him he was just telling people that reporting him got them banned
built my first gundam today and wow i have a newfound respect for you all!
OP here, I reported about 75% of the images he posted ITT. It did some good for the thread, but it seems only for about 10 minutes or so.
Excuse the mobile post. I wasn't here for the deletion, but essentially mods attempted and succeeded in deleting some posts and now he is at it again?
Did they get Snapshit too? Can we warn them about him and how he torments the board as a whole?
either a mod or the spammer deleted all the "hahaha it's me that's the spammer, it'd blow your mind if you knew who it was!" posts in the previous thread. Either that guy was faking it or the mods could have solved the problem right then and there by banning them.
Why keep fighting. We'll never get rid of this guy. He might even be a mod like everyone keeps saying which basically means we're screwed.
Just give up like I did. Give up and let it happen...
I'm not Snapshit, I was telling the person who wanted us to quit to stop since they're the spammer/Snapshit/etc. I'm against us giving in to the shitposting.
>>13763666 this guy is obviously the spammer, being that they always use the words "tryhard" and "elitist". We're not even particularly elitist, he's just bottom of the barrel. Most of us don't really get particularly angry at people and just let them know their mistakes and how to fix them. We may scream at them to clean their nubs, but it's not outright death threats or whatever. In Snapfags case that's special, of course, as he doesn't seek to learn and is a prick.
he won't nor will he explain why he wont just buy action figs. he's an obvious attention whore, don't feed into it by replying to him. I know it's tough since he says some of the most retarded shit on earth but the only way to get rid of him for good is to stop giving him attention. I'm not lashing out at you personally on this matter but this is something that the gunpla thread must implement as a whole.
>vowed to only buy RG
>HG IBO with really nice boxes, also close to 1/4th of the price of an RG
>still has an inner frame
>all looking really snappy
>bought 1 of each
Guess I should watch IBO. Is it good?
The long version of the answer is it's rather slow right now. Give it a watch and make your own decisions I guess, but even I find it kinda boring right now. Needs more mecha action in general, but maybe moving forward we'll get some more.
The Graze is a delicious design though (I have a McGillis Custom too on my Backlog), I'll agree with that. And I like Barb too.
Don't worry shitsack-kun, your days are numbered. I've paid Hiroyuki enough money to BAN YOUR CANCEROUS ASS. SO HAVE FUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN. END YOURSELF!!!!
if only said waifusuit actually looked "feminine".
but alas. fuck that horrible piece of old, horrible proportioned, shit jointed, lack of articulation technology...
if only they would revive other suits instead of just lead ones...
It's finally done. I can understand why people love MGs so much; the way the pieces layer on each other to make the frame is great, and although there's detail it doesn't go overboard, unlike the RGs. Now I'm wondering if I should apply the decals, because I like how clean it looks without them.
One thing I noticed: the shield and the wings have holes in the right places for a landing gear, but there's none in the kit. Did it come with some special version, or is it just a dropped gimmick?
And this was me playing with my camera's built-in filters. So artsy.
Ok, so I changed the tubes on my custom cold type zaku to match the ones on the legs. I also changed the wires that went from the backpack to the pistol with a "cold" tube. ( I had to modify the backpack for this). As my first gunpla design ( I painted warhammer figures before) I'm pretty satisfied, is there something that still need to be improved?
tI personally am enjoying IBO so far. Sure there are shortcomings here and there but also I have yet to see a 100% perfect gundam series that doesn't have any shortcomings of it's own. Of course some have very many while others have very few. I feel it's still to early in the show to give a definitive opinion of whether it's bad or good though. You should at least give it a try so you can form your own opinion of it.
This is also coming from a person whose not that big of a fan of the design of the Barbatos either. It has some cool moments but overall it's not really my style. The Graze and it's variants are amazing on the other hand. Also there are some other creative designs that turned out pretty cool, I really like the Hyakuren.
I'm the complete opposite
none of the IBO designs have really caught my interest, they just don't fell right to me
stil, the other day some guy here posted an awesome dark souls artorias custom, and I think the IBO kits may just allow one to pull off a knight themed custom
I like IBO's aesthetic and gunpla design because it's very modular and straightforward at times and complicated and weird at others. Also the allowing for mix and matching and having a lot of inner-frame parts on some kits allows you to explore small custom jobs for the average gunpla-goer.
First picture. Regular Nu. Debating whether to put seals on the funnels or not(seeing as they'll probably come up).
Damn, I thought the mods/jannies finally banned shitposter from /m/
Looks pretty good, what tools are you using? I suggest making sure you have thin enough sanding implements for all of the complex surfaces on gunpla
Also sometimes when two halves are so disjointed like on old kits, or if you have a repair to do from having to separate previously glued parts you might want to get some dissolved putty, which you can paint onto the glued section and then sand down. This is super helpful on curved surfaces where you want a smooth finish but not a "flat spot" that can happen from sanding down far enough to get smooth. It can also be used to fill pits and gaps.
The front of the bottom legs here was really bad, so I just coated the whole thing in dissolved putty. When you seamweld with only sanding, you can only ever subtract material, often too much if the parts are badly mismatched. With sanding and putty you can both add and subtract to the surface to get it flat in line with everything else.
I had to redo the top half of the leg on the right, so you can see how messy the cement made the line when I reattached them, I sanded down the excess, then used the same putty process to build it back up, then smoothed it out so there were no flat spots on that super round part.
even though the weld on the top of the leg was so bad initially because I had to pry it apart after realizing my mistake, by using both subtraction through sanding and addition via putty, I could keep the whole surface curved properly without any flat spots where the seams were
Excuse my idiocy, but can anyone speak for the quality of the Wing Zero Custom Perfect Grade?
Just asking because it's from 2000, and I'm looking for a good Wing Zero Custom (and Wing Zero/Wing) to start off my Wing series collection.
I haven't built it personally but from what I have heard, it is the worst out of all the PGs. I would suggest the RG since it's the newest version of it but if you're not into 1/144 kits, you could always go for the MG; I haven't heard anything negative about that kit. Plus if your gonna start with a wing series collection it would probably be smart to go with the MG so that you can get the rest of the gundams from the series in the same scale.
Daily reminder that no matter how hard you think you might have failed in life, at least you'll never be the waste of oxygen, water, food, space, and disability dollars that this godforsaken Snapshit spammer represents.

Cmon man I just want to type out some numbers
And the funnels are done. Not using seals because the yellow doesn't match.
reposting from meme thread cause I'm stupid
"pic of my first actual attempt at seam welding, looks not the best, as you can tell. part of it probably looks as bad as it does is because when I got an acrylic finishing set as a gift, it had another bottle of cement in it, so I used that, without reading how it was for clear parts, making me sand it down and apply normal cement. I also accidentally glued in the bending polycap on the thigh the wrong way, so I had to split it and re cement. planning on sanding a bit more and doing more touch up work tomorrow."
If you haven't seen it already go take a look here >>13764674
Everyone's first attempt at seam welding is rough, you'll figure it out soon enough.
Pretty sure that's the old Deathscythe Hell Custom HG
I remember buying this Green and Blue months ago to use for my Gato Custom Rick-Dom, but think i'll do his Gelgoog instead. anything else i should have gotten before i start? from pictures i've seen i could probly just use the default color for the torso but it would look odd against all that painted blue.
the rest in the pic are just leftovers from older projects. but i do like to paint the inside of jets gold
>plastic model general
>constant image dump of generic plastic model related stuff
Report back on how it looks since I want to paint this in Gato colors.
Whenever I see this picture, I wonder internally if the Bandai red LED just slots right into the MK-II. Official or not, the red makes it look so much more fucking sinister than the green.
I've got an MG V2 ver. Ka arriving later this week, and I'm pretty fucking pumped for it. If it lives up to my hype, I'm thinking about grabbing the other ver. Kas from Victory. What I want to know is, is there anything in the regular Victory that isn't in the V-Dash? I'm left wondering because, according to HLJ, the V-Dash came out in 2010 and the Victory in 2012... did they just release a stripped-down version two years later?
Victory was first, then V-Dash a short time later. And they're almost the same exact model, so much so that you could buy the MG Victory and the MG V Core Booster set to make V-Dash
HLJ has their dates screwed up. MG Victory ver.Ka was released in 2009 and the MG V-dash and the booster were released in the same month in 2010. The MG V-dash is just the victory kit and the booster kit in the same box.
Don't trust HLJ for dates on stuff.
Hi everyone, a rather new and inexperienced gunpla builder here, I was building a Hi-Nu Ver. Ka, my third master grade, and I lost one of the polycaps. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement?
You can usually by parts or runners through Ebay and some other markets.
If the seller has the kit listed but not the part or section you need, send them a message and ask if they have it.
the S1 1/100s are alot nicer than the HGs, though get the MG Exia for obvious reasons.
S2 you would be better off sticking with HGs because you can get the heavy weapons versions and a GN Archer, though the 1/100 Designers Colors look really nice.
I ordered off of amazon, and the seller has no replacement policy, just return and refund policies. I also checked multiple websites that sell replacement parts and can't find the hi-nu among the kits with replacement parts, do you happen to know any kits that share polycaps with it?
It's because shitspammer-kun used up all our image allotments. It's how he gets his kicks, I'm afraid. And mods don't care about /m/ so they don't come here and there are no janitors for /m/.
Question about lineart friends. When wanting to use white for parts, is it optimal to just not color in that part of the lineart, or is it better to show white with a slight tint of black/grey?
naked Nu gundam
I get tired by just looking at the huge waterslide decal sheet...
Got my monoeye and inner head done and some of the metallic parts of the chest. For the eye I went kinda old school, I got a set of model car lenses from a local hobby shop and did a light coat of clear red to turn them pink. The lenses work well because they are cheap and not only is the top curved, but the metallic back is as well, which gives the eye a lot of depth and reflects light in neat ways from different angles.
Now that the image spammer
who wants you to move to his hug-box on /toy/is thwarted, I'm going to let you in on a huge problem with the HGUC Nu. Because the connector to the action base is a rotating polycap, it has the unfortunate side-effect of leaning to the side the funnels are on.
Nice, the Nu has my second favorite inner frame I think
This is the first one I've really put a lot of work into, and they do take a lot of work. I saw the box art for this kit and then the crazy proportions and new I wanted to make one. The only thing I wanted to change much was the head, because I thought it would be a good new challenge to try adjusting the visor opening. I think it went well, I like learning how to create my own changes like that that blend in in the end.
Gold and brass, not that you can really tell....
That's some great dedication, I'm personally a fan of the psycommu test zaku from the same MSV series with the crazy moon-lander booster feet, if I ever got any free time to myself I'd love to make some of those older kits presentable, that and improve on articulation.
Tney are left over design gimicks for the landing gear that came with the Ver 1.0 Zeta. The 2.0 replaced the landing gear by including the better Mega Launcher and the Display Stand.
Does anyone know of any decent melee weapons that might fit a ninja theme? I threw a pair of the kunai looking daggers from the MS sword set on my Schwalbe Graze and kinda like where it's going.
My Barbatos is already using it, so that's covered. Same with the mace. He's...kinda quad wielding.
Those actually look cool enough to figure out how to make work on it. Keeping those in mind for later.
Started working on my first kit bash today. Gonna work on it more when I get home from work.
This is pretty fun so far
This is my second gundam model kit, first ever attempt at painting. What do you guys think?
Am I doing it right?
I'm planning to paint just the sides of the armor parts to give it a glow
I love it right after the spammer gets smacked down, and he wants to just keep spamming but knows he'll just get smacked down again, so he just posts single images from his collection.
Don't worry big guy, the mods will go to sleep eventually !
A friend recommended I color a Graze in Black Tri Star colors. Not sure which one I should go for.
So, using your image as a base, I edited the right one slightly. The fundamental issue with both of your versions is that the colors aren't balanced proportionately. So, I added some purple to the side skirt and I added a hint on the toes to add balance.
I just took the lineart and filled in the colors. Nothing too drastic
Also I kind of like the pants/thigh high look.
It was just a quick edit based off of the originals' color schemes.
Thanks for the tip, made some changes. Now it's between having the white thighs or not. I liked the contrast of the white on the original Zakus, but I'm not sure if it translates well.
>what paint to buy?
>what nippers to buy?
>what plastic cemet to but?
>what masking tape to buy?
>what panel lining markers to buy?
Someone get a hold of Gelgoog Guy and make him put that in the guide so these dumb questions stop happening.
>>what paint to buy?
I heard tamiya paints make the gunpla plastic more brittle after painting. something about the thinner tamiya uses...
not sure if that only applies to the tamiya spray cans or something.
supreme taste my friend.
what's a good 1/100 that wont break bank. been building a lot of the recent high grades/rgs and i want something...bigger.
Ok so i tried making the energy rings for God Gundam, definitely retrying this when its not 4am and when i get proper blutac instead of lazily taped it since it wasn't perfect anyway
Someone who is autistic enough to post the same shit everyday. Like he's that autistic fuck you see in every single comment section when watching plamo reviews.
He also goes by the name nike629
When I made a Symphogear-themed custom last year using Reborns Gundam as a base, I wanted the pants-and-boots look.
I really love how the boots turned out, but the skirt kinda breaks the illusion, although it does it the base idea well (orange gems pointing towards the crotch).
I kept the thigh stickers on in hopes that it would somewhat resemble Maria!Gungnir garters, but eh.
Better shot of the boots.
All hail octomamacat!
They should hang this in the Louvre. I'm an amazing artist.
I'm so sorry, but they only had highlighters (and crappy crayons). The red highlighter also dripped quite a lot
>Tney are left over design gimicks for the landing gear that came with the Ver 1.0 Zeta. The 2.0 replaced the landing gear by including the better Mega Launcher and the Display Stand.
Pity. I'd rather have a landing gear than the launcher. I don't have the space for something so big and long.
True to GX, I gave her a blue beam swo- I mean wing, just in case.
There. For the torso, I used the front part from Reborns and the rear half from 1.5 Gundam, giving it both Reborns' pronounced chest gem and 1.5's rear collar. Then I pegged and attached Astraea's backpack and 00 Quanta's rear skirt.
Really wish I could have used more pink in the back or the head, but none of my ideas worked good enough.
I suggest asking your local gunpla shops or clubs and ask if they have unneeded scrap pieces laying around. I got them all nubby as hell, needed a lot of sanding.
The reflective green stickers came from the leftover sheets of my RGs. Used the empty sticker slots on the sheet as a template to cut them out to size.
Review's up on dalong.
Pretty much a pallete swap of the Wing Zero with different wings, added shield, single rifle, and detachable missile pods. Transformable if you're into that.
Fucking lazy ass Bandai. If it were at least the Proto Zero, I'd get it again.
>quoting same post 4 times
good one nerd. very funny.
Halfway through the Dahack and I'm really surprised how nice it is. Really feels like way more effort was put into these later greco kits
The only G-Reco kits that were lacking to me was the Jahannam and the Catsith. Everything else is just prime.
I just started collecting Zakus. I am at five built so far with three more boxed. What do you guys specifically collect if you collect anything? I hope I can find a perfect grade zaku soon.
>tfw when no MG Zaku I Sniper ever
>tfw not even a RE 1/100 ever
yeah i noticed most MGs went up atleast $10 compared to a month or two ago.
i suppose its time for me to work on Jojo figures instead of gunpla
My p-bandai YMS-07-A finally arrived today
pretty hyped to build this
I feel like by the end of winter I'm gonna have like 10 kits to paint/flatcoat
I don't see the big problem articulation-wise with the G-Self
From what I've seen, the Gundam X Maoh has about the same or LESS articulation.
lol do you people not get that bandai doesn't make more money off of exclusives? the reason they're limited is because either the kit is special in some way and they feel like it should be rare, or they don't think it will be as popular as a regular release. if they really wanted more money they would just raise the price of new kits as they come out.
We vote with our wallets constantly, or rather the Japanese do, I would be very interested to know to what degree Bandai keeps track of what and to where their products are going, especially outside their official distributor partners like bluefin. I assume they count everything sold to hlj or amiami as a domestic sale.
