Gunpla / Plamo General

***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!
Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

They actually profit just fine off of P-Bandai, typically more so than regular releases in short term profits. As they are selling it directly themselves, they are taking 100% of the profit without having to go through a distributor who buys them at a greatly reduced price from the MSRP. And because of preorders, they have a much better idea of how many to produce and don't end up wasting resources on a ton of kits that are going to shelfwarm. It's only in long term that they are overtaken by regular releases.
>making a new thread when the old one wasn't even at page 6.
Next OP is gonna post and say "Oh wowie, my gunpla made OP! Again! I just really have a fan out there." Fucking shitter faggot stop ruining my fucking threads!
A HG GM Cardigan, and something much more interesting; a 1993-made CS-H926 Setter from Victory Gundam from some sort of "MS In Pocket" line. its meant for 5in action figures but 1/144 kits will fit on it just fine.
came across it at a local comic/nerd store ive never been to before, they had a huge selection of comics, legos, 6th generation console games, star wars, star trek, transformers, GI Joe and lots of obscure action figures from varies series. they had a pretty good Japanese selection as well, lots of old Macross kits and figures, DX Chogokin Evas for $60, a bunch of old gundam MSIA figures and a handful of gunpla, including the 1/400 White Base for only $150.
supposedly they got a whole bunch of old Japanese stuff from a guy that was stationed over there and recently passed away, this thing is in absolutely pristine condition for 23 years old and has zero fading or cracking; i doubt its been opened more than a handful of times.
>You will immediately cease and not continue to access the site if you are under the age of 18
Buy starting supplies for the members, alternatively save up money for a communal airbrush setup
>I want to be known as a massive weeb
Stock up on supplies and some cheep High-Grades that you can use for demonstration. It's probably best you get some not-gundam things too so it can technically be a model club and not just gunpla.
>Say that I wanted to start a gunpla club in my highschool
Why not just announce yourself to the whole school on the P.A. System that you don't want to ever get laid by cool hot girls... EVER?
Costs less effort and money than trying to start a gunpla club.
its gunpla related now.
Fuck off Steven. When you were 12 you had constant bitch fits about how you were going to be a pro skateboarder when you go up, and now look at you. You work at fucking Best Buy.
there are easier ways to tell people you're a loser other than starting a "gunpla club".
real life isn't anime you know. you don't get to have "anime club" irl and still have sexy girls not think you're a weirdo.
>caring about 3DPDs at all.
Fucking normals GET OUT! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Done with the hellish masking, I actually had to break all the boosters off once I decided which scheme I wanted to do, I think it will be worth it because of how curved all the metallic surfaces are. This is going off the box art.
You guys are stupid. Even if you're going to a tech school, no one knows what the fuck "gunpla" let alone "plamo" means. Or even what it is if you explain it to them. Toy modeling is a completely foreign concept to normalfags except the few who had grandpa's doing WW2 planes/tanks, in which case, they usually think it's cool. And many girls do find dedication to a hobby, especially one that uses your hands and tools, attractive. Obviously working on your motorcycle is cooler than working on an RC car, but it's still mechanical skill.
But if you're just modeling gundam and not any good mecha, you'll still probably come off as a tool who watches children's cartoons, mostly because you are one. And I hope you mean uni, not highschool, underageb&
Except I stuffed it all into the spoiler. Squint through your tears anon
But it's worth it in the end, right?
>RG Wing EW
Why is this even a thing? It's literally just Wing Zero EW with a shield, the buster rifle and a different backpack. Why isn't this just P-Bandai? I just want my RG Ground Gundam ;_;
Wizards only fools.
Keep it tight.
Do you like stickers? Then the Harrison F91 is the kit for you !
>Fumina, Mirai, Eri, Gyanko, Shia, Caroline and Kirara say otherwise
>comparing anime world with the real world
ummmmmmm this is true and I don't see a problem.........
It looks like a Zeon kit. But I've never seen a red Zeon emblem before
The death of the 1/100NG line was the best thing that could have happened, unfortunately it was followed by AGE and like 6 MG main suits in short order that sold shit, so now we instead get re/100, 1/100NG and Hi-resolution, further diluting the scale. Reborn and MG can surely co-exist as they sort of compliments each other, but if they had killed the NGs before 00 we would probably have MG meister suits other than setsuna's
Why would you think they were going to make MG 00 going forward? They don't even want to make MG Reborns and instead asked if people wanted an RE. I mean, the Reborns may happen but I doubt anything else. 00 doesn't really get shit anymore outside of Setsuna suits. No RD no RG, no MG no NXEDGE etc
Bandai was developing and producing Star Wars model kits last year. With that, some of their resources were allocated to that part of the business, causing GunpPla releases to be affected.
Thanks for using my gunpla as OP m8.
I actually used a brush with Silver, black and Badab black wash for the weathering. I might have owerdone I admit it.
finally manned up and decided to get to wet sanding and gluing tonight.
Modded the thighs to swivel, as well as the elbow and knee joints for better bends! I'll have to pick up some putty soon and do more cleaning.
What have you been working on gunpla General?
TINY daily haul
Third Stylet and the *ahem* naked gourai resin kit
It honestly just depends on the tolerances on the particular kit you wind up receiving. It just so happens that this particular model probably had a boat load of QC problems and got manufactured with a few fit issues. Worst comes to worst you'll just need to tighten the connections.
It needs a stand as it can't stand well on its own, yes. Even if you can put up with it being wobbly over time the ankles will get weaker with rotation and use. Mine's currently dangle and can't hold their own weight.
Also, I have not heard of others having this problem, but the lower elbow joint on mine broke. Not really sure how, but its G10 in pic related.
>liking repair version
Please git gud. That shit is so stupid. Robots shouldn't wear giant capes, and recreating capes for figures and models is pig disgusting. Fabric capes look like shit, and hard plastic capes don't work for poses.
I'm sorry... I couldn't hear you over the sound of MY MOTHERFUCKING AWESOME CAPE, BAM!
>capes on robots are stupid
You're no fun.
>yfw you realize that each thread in that piece of burlap must be as thick as a man's arm
>yfw you realize that laws of physics prevent it from flapping in the wind
still can't understand you from under my awesome cloak.
I know the current cape on there looks pretty bad, that was just one I threw on there in about 5 minutes. The real thing is gonna have some wire in the middle for posing and will look a lot better.
>Applying real world physics to plastic models
Thinness of the cape is not really an issue as much as how a piece of cloth of that size will behave.
Hint: fluid dynamics doesn't scale linearly.
Quick question for any competition builders, is it normal for the place to charge for entering?
>I have a giant fucking robot
>I'm gonna disguise it with a giant fucking cape
>Damn, I must be a genius
The lack of realism is what kills it for me. If it's your thing go ahead, but as I said initially I find it very silly.
Actually camouflage netting and other visual forms of camouflage would be pretty effective in UC universe due to the fact that minovsky bullshit basically negates all other types of sensors barring visual confirmation. That's why you see ships and mobile suits shooting out giant balloon animals all the time in space.
In other news, my CCA family is growing.
i have a question. is it okay to post GK on this Threads or not ? i mean GK relative to /M/ univers. Thanks.
I have a Crossbone X1 in my backlog but i'm waiting till i know i can make the cloak have this weighed down look.
FFS why can't y'all stop giving this faggot attention? He posts to get salty replies. He has already admitted that building the actual kit is his least favorite part about gunpla (even though it's the main reason you buy a model kit) and has yet to reply as to why he doesn't buy action figs instead. Stop enabling his shitposting.
Gonna be buying the shit out of this.
It wasn't intended to go back into combat. The Exia repair was in the repair bay. Setsuna took it anyways.
Just ordered the kit for this fatty.
I love the Gusion
go for the graze. the best things to come out of IBO aside from Major 'lolicon' McGillis.
well seems i fucked up the filename then. by quite a bit too.
sweet char is my memory getting that bad?
>Papillon painted to look like an actual butterfly
I like this.
spit my fucking drink at that.
i admire the dedication to best girl!
I took apart my old Gundam X Maoh because I decided to make it more exciting. I settled on the Solar System Satellite whateveryoucallit mode.
The reflectors are colored with
The glowing parts were colored with
I-I can't look...seriously, did you even try?
The Graze was also my first gunpla kit. I've found it an enjoyable build and I'm in love with the design enough that I've bought 4 variants and am planning for a fifth for my first custom build.
How come we got a Master Grade of the Fenice Rinascita that was on screen for a total of 2 minutes and not the bitching asymmetrical Wing Fenice who we came to love?
why does the fact that it cant transform an issue? does every iteration of the zeta have to have a waverider mode? it has it's own gimmick that's pretty cool and is a good looking MS imo.
>why does the fact that it cant transform an issue?
>does every iteration of the zeta have to have a waverider mode?
It's a zeta. zeta's whole deal was it's waverider mode. It's very staple was that is was a transformable MS. That's what made the Zeta Gundam memorable.
Sure there are other non-transformable versions/variations of the Zeta but do those really leave that much of an impression as opposed to waverider Z? ZZ? S-Gundam? Plus A1? Plus C1?
>hai guise. I'm too lazy to look something up myself even though it'll only take me a second or so. Please spoonfeed me answers to easy questions cuz I apparently can't think for myself.
nice try snapfag. maybe learn to google for what you're looking for next time? it's not that hard.
Holy shit guys, they said it's their first build ever, calm the fuck down. For a first timer it's really not that bad, way to be elitist faggots instead of giving out constructive criticism. You on the rag or something Fllay? I haven't seen you be this much of a bitch in a long time, and here I thought you matured a little over all this time you've been here. Guess not
Not terrible for your first ever try with gunpla but it could use some more work. You're gonna want to get some sandpaper and go back and clean off those nubs that you got on there, remember to go from low grit to high grit. Also order some gundam markers or micro pens (whichever you prefer, either way they are super cheap) and try panel lining it; it's an extremely easy thing to do that really makes a kit look good. The three colors you should get at first are black, grey, and brown. Black is good for dark colored surfaces like blue parts, grey looks good on white parts, and brown looks good on red parts and few others. Since the Graze is green I think you would get away with with panel lining it with black or brown and it would come out nice. Welcome to the hobby
Love the AT-ST, was to lazy to go that far though.
I'd go full retard if they released a AT-AT tho.
>Holy shit guys, they said it's their first build ever, calm the fuck down. For a first timer it's really not that bad, way to be elitist faggots instead of giving out constructive criticism.
>way to be elitist faggots
do you even /m/?
plus this is 4chan. what the hell do you think this is? some kind of circlejerk tumblreddit where people hug and say loving words to you to make you feel better?
It needs nub clean up, use low to high grits of sand paper to clean it up. You can get a pack of 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 grit in the automobile section in walmart, and then pick up 600 and 800 grit. Cut and glue strips of the sandpaper onto popsicle sticks for greater control.
It can also do with panel lining, black gundam markers are cheap to get online I'd recommend the three pack of black, brown, and grey on amazon.
You are very new at this so I'd recommend you get a few more kits to learn on before you move onto something you really like, because you will fuck up. Maybe make a Graze squad before you move on and they can serve as paint learning fodder when you get into that.
Read the guide.
It's their first kit ever, stop being a faggot
Yes I fucking /m/, does that mean i have to be an elitist faggot to someone who just tried out the hobby for the first time and is excited about it though? I didn't say hugbox tier shit like, "looks good" or "nice try" all I said was "it's not bad/terrible", which it isn't. Pic related is bad/terrible in my book. And then I just offered some tips so that they could get better.
>LOL guis I used tumblr and reddit in the same sentence! am I cool yet?!?!? XDXDXD
epic bro, totally upvoted
I'm soooooo sorry that I'm not le /m/ oldfig and wanted to help someone new to the hobby so that they can better themselves and enjoy it the way the rest of us do rather than telling them they are a blight to the gunpla community and should never build a tiny plastic robot again.
>these first kits
Now I'm even more determined when my first kits come in the mail. I'll build a High Grade with no paint or topcoat. I'll build the best god damn unpainted or topcoated HG anyone has ever seen. I will help restore quality to this general.
GBWC Australia 2015 winner, not even painted.
leftovers from 2016 and new acquisitions from my yearly trip to Japan-land.
best birthday ever
what a shame I've never done rg before
I'd hold off on building that one then. Grab a different RG like the Destiny or Exia first. Then go head long into the Zeta, that way you at least have a feel for how fragile RGs can be before you fuck with that.
Yeah, I know. I'm just pumped my friend sent me a z3. Been wanting one for years. Tried to be home for the night gentei put up preorders, but I got home too late. I have rg exia on my radar anyway
So since its freezing all week i cant work on my Gelgoog, so i'll start on my Crossbone, for when i have to paint the face scars its top coat gloss then paint and decals, then matte coat?
Bandai made some mistakes, but it's still a good model. You should've got the Super Parts too, for maximum thustering.
I hope you plan to paint it though instead of using the sels, because there's a ton, many of them in curved surfaces.
wish the knee joints that came with that custom kit wasn't so damn terrible. It gives better bend but also worsens the overall proportion of whatever old seed kit you attach it to... better off just cutting parts of the leg that obstruct articulation.
The hands are great though.
Has anyone here built the Hinowa? Does the black tab for the eyes keep falling out for everyone else or am I just not slotting it in correctly? I mean from the part's design it seems to only be held in place by friction.
>guy posts nice AT-AT
>guy posts his first snapped kit
everyone goes ballistic, convenes the grand snap tribunal to pass judgment
shitter trips and spam are not the only problems here anymore
Hello again. So a while back, I mentioned on customizing a mg Unicorn and Banshee by doing a frame switch. However, someone mentioned making it regal. In that train of though, I had a few ideas, but somehow came to one train of thought, that being recreate the markings from Amaterasu from Okami.
Unfortunately, I'm a bit stumped at the moment on how to have the swirl markings on the forehead and shoulders. I may add in some yellow/orange LEDs for the frame and shield, but I want to get things worked out color wise first. Any advice on this?
pic related, as its one of my mock ups in photoshop.
For the shoulders I would probably just use masking tape, draw where I wanted them, cut it out and then re attach it and spray
For the head I would probably use tape to cover most of the head, then rolled sticky tack to mask the edges of the swirl. The head is a very complicated shape.
You could try liquid mask, but that is often a worse option than novices would believe. At first it sounds like a miracle answer to all of your masking woes but it usually is better to just put the time in with good taping.
Tell me about the base please. I am interested in making some like these but don't really know where to start. What is it made from, and is it weighted to help keep the model from tipping over?
Wonderful job on the model overall.
They're garbage, throw them out.
A lot of people on here don't build, or are poor at building, but everyone can criticize nubs.
Part of the problem as well is that the general has been basically ruined and put into a state of paranoia over the spammer and tripfags.
>Is that guy posting a badly done model actually a new anon, or one of those cancerous tripfags?
>How many times are we going to have to look at these poorly-made kits with no effort put into either building or photographing them?
This is unfortunately the thread our lack of mods (and faggots who keep replying to shitposters) has left us with.
It's a nice notion but honestly this is one of the reason's tripfags and shitposters stick around, just to gobble up your (you)s. Personally I think everyone should just ignore all the posts with people going
>"Look it's my first build!"
Whatever information they're looking for can be easily found in guides if they are earnestly seeking to improve but if they're simply shitposting then we didn't have to waste a post.
Even so, I will use my own judgement to aid people and rise above the paranoia.
Yes in a perfect world people should read and digest the guide before asking questions and getting into the hobby, but this is an imperfect world so we must take it as we will and help one another to make the best of it.
Is there any reason I shouldn't use files like pic related instead of sandpaper or a hobby knife? These really seem more accurate.
I use a mix of all three. Like >>13778527
said, sometimes files are too rough, and sometimes they're not appropriate for the type of plastic you want to file down. It really depends on the situation
I started using these today, don't have anything to compare with though but they all seem to be the same grit but different shapes, going over my first MG from 11 years ago with them right now.
Ground control to major Tom, the monoeye sticker has been placed on!
My biggest thing is shit in = shit out.
If it's a photo of an unlined kit standing in that awkward, rigid upright pose taken with a book backlit by their monitor, then there's no reason to reply because that person doesn't really care. They haven't taken a small amount of effort to upload a decent picture, much less read a guide that's mostly photos.
>Creatively mod, sand, install LED, and do a bunch of shit to a model.
>The result is visibly impressive and looks great.
>Kawaguchi gives him shit for not painting it.
Gunpla is freedom guys.
Zeon wont stand a chance against our secret weapon!
Freedom, never top coated it so I've gone back to it several times over the years. Removing horrible nubs and removing a lot of gundam marker to replace with Tamiya panel line accent color, also using setter and softer on the decals. I mean look at the fucking knife I was using!
Really hyped about 2.0, been advocating it in these threads since the RG. But I also kinda want to build the 1.0 again and to things right from the start, perhaps with a new paint scheme or something.
and no, it was my first kit and I had no idea of what I was in for or how I was going to build it, might have been a box cutter in dads tool box or something but I probably assumed it wasn't up to the task. Had no idea how to do the dry transfers and didn't take on the stickers.
>1/3 of the scoring process is paint
Since he didn't paint, he could only have a max score of 66/100
Essentially his snap build was so good it btfo all the painted customs. That's how well Kawaguchi loved it.
I intentionally bought it after they announced the 2.0 to compare the two, but also I think I might prefer the look of the older one more. Since I like how the old Strike looks compared to the RM. Both are pretty good for old MGs, but I prefer the old Strike
I think they're all good, but the RM triggers me, especially with the dice on the shoulders. Some of the design changes just seem odd to me, but the Freedom 2.0 is showing promise
Yeah, I'm hoping for greater part-and color separation with a few of the RGs panel lines thrown in. Someone in this thread brought up that the wings seemed a bit sharper but I hope they don't change them too much since they are already basically perfect on the 1.0. But I also hope this will lead to a MG Justice
just noticed that both feet ankle resin caps are cracked, should had been more careful and avoid pressuring it against surface to make it stand stable.
Dont pressure your kits on desk kiddos.
Got the blue one myself, can't say I've really run into any major issues with it. It's a big boy with it's shields though, takes up lots of space for nice posing.
Which spray can should I use to get a similar blue ?
TS-93 (pure blue), TS-44 (brilliant blue) or TS-10 (french blue) ? Or maybe something else ?
welp, english aint my 1st nor 2nd, guess i should write/
shitpostmore often until i gidgud,
I hope you enjoy yours anon, I really enjoyed making mine.
Just be careful when you get to this part, make sure the pink highlighted tabs are pushed back slightly so the two pieces come together completely flush.
Not really a Gundam, but the GM Striker has what looks like reactive armor
Ingram's kind of neat
mg 1.0 kits look soooo dated now
still bad ass tho
everything that got a 2.0 there is never a need to buy the orginal again. though some older MGs are fine like the Dom or God. wish Zaku I would get a update even if people say its easy to convert a Zaku II.
If there was a line art for a mech that one wanted to acquire that isn't in either of the databases, is there someone that you ask, or is it sort of one of those 'do it yourself' situations?
fixed it for you, I know you're new at this
I don't mind you for replying to bot but at least do it properly
finished the very last bit of Gundam.
Next move: stickers and decals!
use the entire sheet or filter one third of it or
throw in the entire waterslide sheet PLUS the stock stickers?
I got the chinese bootleg of MG 3.0 add-on pack. Build quality is actually better than Bandai's since most of parts are undergated and its "spongey"-like plastic doesnt leave any nub stress marks, on the down side it lacks some small details like the pin that connects the bazooka with gundams back
Using my current project to practice panel scribing since these old Seed 1/100 have no thigh detail. It's not purfect and I slipped a bit on the left one, but that's a simple fix.
>on the down side it lacks some small details like the pin that connects the bazooka with gundams back
thats because those bazookas are actually copies of the RG Gundam bazookas blown up to 1/100 scale.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of something like this. Devil's my favorite, but getting that many GN drives for such a thing would be silly.
Plus, the devil gundam is fine enough with DG cells. Being only killed by the power of love and martials arts isn't that big of a weakness.
The base us a rock, well more like a chunk on concrete.
this was my second to first gundam. did i do ok? i think i did. anywho i want to paint it matte but i think mr. matte clear is a little pricey. is there any cheaper alternatives?
