Opinion on knights of sidonia?
It's extremely depressive, but not in a tearjerker way. It has a very gloomy and eerie atmosphere due to the action being set in world where they live every second of their lives as a last one.
Mecha designs are nice, so are the characters.
Give it a try, it's definitely worth it
The "mechs fighting shapeshifting dick monsters" and "last remaining human civilization on a thousand year old ship full of clones and immortal people" often takes a backseat to harem comedy shenanigans.
Granted, said harem comedy shenanigans usually involve a hermaphrodite cyborg, at least two clone supersoldier sisters, and a dick-monster hybrid with the mind of a 15 year old girl.
Basically Battlestar Galactica with Mechs.
Few basic points
Sidonia's the last human ship in existence; all other seedships have disappeared after earth got split in half by the Gauna 1000 years ago.
They can only kill Gauna by piercing their true body with a Kabi (Spear).
The Characters are far less annoying than AoT but there are a few bits when 3 girls are falling over the main character before the Gauna attacks begin increasing, after which it kind of falls to the wayside.
Animation is slow and jarring in the first few episodes but really gets more fluid as the series goes on.
Lots of scenery porn too.
I feel sorry for Izana, she's had the heaviest shit dumped on her all the fucking time and doesn't get a single break because Nagate lives for the dual purposes of eating everything in view and flying mecha.
What are you talking about? There's totally a brown girl.
I still find it hilarious that she wasn't explained for so many chapters that I didn't even think about it until they went; "Btw why are you a bear exactly" "Oh its a suit lol".
Or how they just completely blow it off when she's introduced. Nagate freaks the fuck out because there's a fucking bear in his room talking to him and she's all
"Oh, yeah, I lost the hand a while back. Oh well! lol"
She's the primary victim of never ending snowballing bullshit but she takes it in her stride.
I'd like a chapter where we see what toll it's actually taking on her.
Theres numerous hints that she's gonna hook up with Yuhata.
Honestly would be happy with it. Girl needs a fucking break.
What with Nagate getting an erection for tentacles.
That bit with "its a bear suit" is probably my favourite Nihei callback yet. If you don't know, in Biomega there was a bear person and the protag at first assumed it was a guy in a suit, but the bear quickly denied it. So now we have a bear person that everyone assumes is just a bear, only to find out 50 chapters later that yes, it is in fact a person in a bear suit.
Other good ones:
-Izana's robot limbs have the same white ceramic with black ball joints design as the safeguards
-Yuhata's DRF apron
-Tsumugi has a book called "the hungry gauna" that is mentioned in Abara
>Izana breaks her fall and almost dies when Sidonia turns
>Visits Izana everyday when she's hospitalised, whilst all the others don't.
>Obviously close after the sea chapter.
Don't even like Yuri. Just calling it.
Reminder that Ochiai is based as fuck but also kind of retarded.
Honestly; all he needed to do was create a legion of chimeras instead of going
> HURR IMMA TRANSMIGRATE TO THE ULTIMATE LIFE FORM.
>What are you going to do next?
>Float in space alone for millenia.
Great plan. 10/10.
Why go into a relationship with that?
Sure its a nice dickmonster but honestly why. Its fucking 16 meters tall and looks like the flood from halo fucked a ballerina.
I'm catching up on what I've missed; stopped reading when the asteroid got destroyed.
Holy fucking shit Nagate, he must have some small form of autism.
It's Harem Anime Protagonist Retardation.
It's a very serious, incurable condition that causes teenage boys in harem anime settings to be completely ignorant of romantic advances made by female acquaintances regardless of how blatant and numerous said advances may be.
It's that point of okay where I you can barely criticize stuff as it isn't bad, just whatever. Characters aren't annoying just bland. Mysteries aren't bad (maybe a little obvious) just kinda basic. Maybe the harem stuff is a bit much but that's about it
It is the anime show equivalent of shrugging your shoulders
Don't tend to watch harem anime so it drives me up the wall in Sidonia.
At least they're settling things now; with Dickmonster/Nagate and Izana/Yuhata (Better fucking happen).
The Gauna are the only monsters that genuinely terrify me.
They seem to be a mixture of all "assimilation" type monsters in fiction but OP as fuck.
>Can create planet-crackers with their own bodies.
>Can travel lightyears easily.
>Eat humans for shits and giggles.
Plus they all look horrifying.
Maybe. The captain really wants to shag him, though, because he reminds her of Hiroki.
...hell, he practically -is- Hiroki.
So let's see, Nagate's harem consists of
>a formerly hermaphrodite cyborg who gets NTR'd at every turn
>his white bread green-haired XO
>two, maybe three out of the roughly two dozen pink-haired clone supersoldiers
>the captain, who is chronologically hundreds of years older and physically at least 10-15 years older than him
>a 16 meter tall flesh girl penis monster with the same voice and DNA as his dead girlfriend
>a tsundere robot with blue hair and freaky eyes, also she does that creepy puppet-skin thing
I feel like you're missing someone but I can't think of it.
>Going for the generic moe space monster over Izana
Christ, his taste in women is terrible. Love has only appeared personified like this in one other series and there they weren't so retarded about it.
i also want this link. my library only has a few of the mangas so i want to find a place to read them all.
i loved it. the animation reminds me of that tron series and the upcoming tf rid series but imo it looks better in anime. the manga i need to read still but it's all pretty cool looking.
i binge read a shit ton when i first found it a while back, didn't think it would get popular.
Then it got popular so i decided to pick it up again and read some more.
But it's just like, I feel like the readers are kept out of the loop i guess? I feel like somethings supposed to happen but it's just not because you can only do so much in the setting. "Oh shit it's a space monster. Lets fight it. But the twist this time is...." It feels like the pokemon anime where it's constantly the same shit over and over.
I stopped basically when Ochiai took over long haired prodigy guy and he created the chimera that then proceeds to absolutely wreck the Small Mass Union ship.
I feel like the only one who found this series super dull. Not in the good slow way but it lacked any personality and you could see most plot points a mile off
The characters have to be some of the most boring I've seen, especially the mc
Because she died within the first bloody volume. Get over it.
>be a bitch
Why do people lie on the internet?
Teruru is pretty much permanently plugged into one of the warships. She stopped being relevant as soon as they constructed twenty of them and sent them off to fight the Mass Union Ship.
>a tsundere robot with blue hair and freaky eyes, also she does that creepy puppet-skin thing
I feel like after he said he wanted to be her legal guardian/parent she sees him just as that
Thanks to this thread i started reading it last night
Surprisingly, it's not shit
In fact i'm really enjoying it
That said, the most important question of all is...
HOW WOULD IT FUNCTION IN SRW?
Mandatory Megazone, obviously, but besides that.
Guardians (Gardes? Morito?) are actually kind of weaksauce and flimsy compared to similar mechs. Yeah, they're light and agile, but the humanoid shape is kind of secondary. The frame is designed to be used in zero-g. Regular gravity would crush them.
Really though, guys, I'd like imagine how this would function in SRW.
IT's pretty good, so I'd like it to make the cut, but I have no idea what kind of series it would work with...outside of megazone and stuff. Do you all have any ideas?
This is running on the assumption that it even could function at all in a crossover setting, which my gut says HELL NO, but then like I said they somehow managed to make Megazone work in SRW D.
What attacks would the guardians even have anyway
>Srw Z3.1 - FMP's Tuatha De Danaan, a submarine, grew rockets and went to space
At this point they don't give a shit about logic. Rule of cool is the sole axiom of importance.
'Gardes' is a failed attempt to convey the connotations of the nip by using a French word, but it's one still in use which completely misses the point. 'Guardians' is a relativity straight translation that doesn't feel the need to dip into a random third language.
I hope season 2 will have Izana become more involved in sorties so I can have some audio clips to use for this.
The show really dragged in the middle. Felt like it could have been a lot shorter with the information condensed
MC only gets a personality around episode 10 as well so that would have been nice earlier
I completely approve of this, just make her a Type 19 rather than a Raven.
She's a pretty damn good pilot, and if they're even attempting to adapt the manga there will be a lot more of her in the cockpit.
They chopped too much out and condensed too much stuff as it is, that's why Nagate is so bland in the anime. He's not some wonderfully written character in the manga either, but he's not as flat.
