The 1979 anime only has crabsticks, but I found some good subs for some of the movies a while ago, don't remember where though.

I'm reading the Dorabase manga (a baseball spinoff of Doraemon set in the 22nd Century, drawn by an understudy of the late Fujioka).

It's wonderfully racist.

At the moment I just read the volume where they play against a Brazilian team before they enter an international tournament.

The ace robot cat of the team (complete with niggerlips) is called "Ronaemon" and he has a pair of sibling robot cats on his team called "Robiemon and Roroemon" who are compulsive cheaters and dive (yes, in baseball) and "con" the biased referee into giving red cards (because fuck baseball, this is Brazil).

Kuroemon (the main character) calls shit on this and gets given a yellow card for it.

Brazilian players are so obsessed with soccer that they don't play baseball with bats (That or apparently they can't afford baseball bats and / or catching mitts) and pitch and bat by simply booting the baseball, because once again fuck baseball rules this is Brazil.

Apart from the 3 Brazilian robot cats on the team, there's a jungle nigger.. yeah.. literally just a jungle nigger with ??? as a face who doesn't wear shoes and just goes around oogaboogaing.

I seriously hope Japan never changes because this shit is hilarious,

When I heard that Doraemon is getting a US dub, I was surprised that it took this long. I grew up watching the anime every Sunday morning and reading the manga, and for the longest time I assumed everyone everywhere watched Doraemon as a kid.

If you haven't done so already, read Nobita's Adventures, which are the longer stories. Those were really fun to read as a kid. My favourites were the toy animal planet story, the undersea adventure and that one where Nobita switches places with an Aztec prince.

I guess the manga artist started deviating his drawing style from regular Doraemon style to begin with after he hit some kindof character limit.

Originally they all well... they all looked like Doraemon with ears and varying different shades.

Problem came when they all kinda looked the same and it was hard to distinguish between them all. His artstyle then took a sharp swerve towards what looks more like shota fur stuff, and from what I've seen he's gotten away with it.

It gets to the point, around Volume 13 where it's obvious that none of the fans even gave a shit about the human characters (The supporting main character, Hiroshi (Nobita clone), whom Kuroemon lives with) succeeds in tryin his ass off and being invited (at Shiroemon's recommendation) to participate in an International Baseball Tournament to represent Japan in a team consisting of almost entirely robot cats (and Shiroemon's two background teammates Hirai (Gian clone) and Komatsugawa (Suneo clone) - human characters fans also didn't give a fuck about) before almost immediately getting into an accident and being put on a bus to sit out all of the international tournament arc.

In fact it becomes a plot point that Gian clone Hirai can't keep up with Shiroemon's skill level causes them to lose the tournament to America.

And don't even get me started on how little Mika (Shizuka clone) provides to the story despite being the manager of the Edogawa Doras team.

She's just there.

He's too lazy for any of that adventuring stuff. According to one of the manga stories, Nobita's actually pretty intelligent, but got lazy and eventually gets behind in studies. As he grows up he gets better, though, and while the manga is rarely consistent in depicting future Nobita, he did land a good job, married Shizuka and has one or two kids.

At the beginning, Doraemon stated that Nobita will marry Gian's Sister instead if nothing is done about his fate; that and cause a debt that would last for centuries, which is why he's here in the first place. Also, Time travel does alter the Time-space continuum, so it's obvious that his Future was never consistent.

In an earlier episode, Doraemon said that he was chosen as representative of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, that he would make a giant Dorayaki. True to real life, and not to his expectations, it happened, and after being stopped by the gang from doing a cop out and just making a small Dorayaki large via the Big Light, they instead invited all of 'Class F' to help.

There was a musical interlude introducing the rest of them, which was pretty cute. I had only recognized the Perman guys (top left), Esper Mami (school outfit, near top center), and Kiteretsu and gang (near center right) before.

As an aside, the whole 'representative of the 2020 Olympics' thing explains the new worldwide push by the Japanese companies to air/dub Doraemon in countries it never aired in before for wider recognizability when the time comes (such as the US of course, but also other places like Turkey and Poland) and the 2005 anime finally airing for the first time in some countries that have previously received the older show (like Italy, and France).

That hitman thing, not sure what it's called in English. I think the Edogawa Doras used it once, but filled it with so much money in desperation, it couldn't even stand. It made good on the payment and prevented a homerun afterwards, though.

The first half of the episode (Nobita meeting Doraemon, how/why he came from the future) was basically the same as the equivalent Japanese ep, except in that version it was framed as a flashback, and took up the whole episode.

The dub version, however, cut everything indicating it was a flashback, and other things for time to fit in 10-15 minutes.

- when Nobita lost the badminton match against Gian, his face was painted green instead of black because Yeah.
- Nobita's grandson explaining that he will always end up being born that way no matter who Nobita ends up marrying, likening it to whether one can take a plane, boat, car, or train from Tokyo to Osaka was also cut (that of course being too Japanese for the vibe they're setting.)

It worked good enough, though, and the second half battleship warfare thing was also funny/entertaining.
