I love my SLR but fuck I hate that it doesn't take very many mags. I have to rock them in a certain way for them to go in. But my fucking opap will take almost everything. I'm thinking should I just modify the mags, or should I fuck with my rifle.

Why do you say that? Because you don't like how it looks or because it doesn't hold up well? I might email and ask, I haven't heard anything at all from BR since I got the receiver. If it's cheaper I might go that route if the result will be the same, JBI does good work. AUG is still a priority though, I'm sitting on the guys money order still cuz his FFL hasn't sent me anything yet even after being repeatedly asked

When are you expecting your AKM kit back? It's been a couple months now right?

>>34945062
what
>>
>>34945110
InRange (the builder, not Karl and Ian) can replicate Y/I stamps on a heat treated receiver. But I don't know how it will look. Also, I'm not happy about the method they use to attach dimpled barrel parts. As autistic as it sounds I might send it to TRA to do the barrel work and then send it to InRange to do the receiver work.

>>34945125
BR has been responding slow as fuck. He's been busy, presumably. I think I sent my AKM kit to JBI about 3 or 4 months ago.
>>
>>34945100
You know you need a Surefire Scout mount for it right? It doesn't have a direct rail mount.

Also I'd consider returning or cancelling the body order and just getting what you need from SKD if you can. My 300 ran about $150 shipped for the complete light with the momentary on tail cap with the sale they're running through tonight. For the 300 body alone it should be about $47 + $5 shipping.

What's JBI's estimated build time for your AKM kit? Have they been in touch or at least update you periodically?

I've been leaving BR alone cuz of his new baby and I want to give him some time with a little less work so he can milk as much time with his family as he can because I know he's busy, but honestly your experience with him has kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. You've kind of turned into my guinea pig with him I guess with how he hasn't invoiced you and hasn't at least just given you a little update here and there

I'm just irresponsible with build money and keep spending it on other dumb stuff instead, had I not bought that Rakurs I'd have sent the kit in then

My best friend and best man at my wedding lives about 30 minutes away but he recently returned home from college in CA and he's a changed man, he's now hyper liberal and we have little to nothing in common anymore and don't hang out anymore so I really don't any friends that I can see on any normal basis

They're basically cheaper Surefire M300/M600s but with an upgraded Malkoff Devices head, which is where most of the Surefire quality goes anyway. Arguably better than the Surefires for that reason.

Being able to use all the Surefire Scout accessories is a nice plus.

The invoice said 6 months but he told me 4 months. I haven't talked to him except to ask him about a parts kit that was for sale on his Instagram. It was a 1977 (last year of production) Izzy AKMS with original barrel. All matching except for the sight leaf and the top cover. He said it wasn't a PLO kit but an "East African" kit and I had no idea what that meant and found no info on it. Regardless of where it came from it's a legit kit. Haven't heard back from him though and I think he sold it to Meridian.

BR's a good guy he's just terrible with his communication. I haven't been sending him any messages because I didn't want to add even more to his workload. I only messaged him recently because I bought a bottle of techno's paint and had it shipped to his address, and I needed to know it arrived and was being associated with my kit. He responded like a week later and apologized for his slow reply and said he had it. I figure the less time I spend pestering him the more time he has to build kits and crush his backlog. I don't think it's his first baby but I am also sympathetic.

>>34945371
To demil a dimpled barrel part they drill the dimples out and press the part off. To attach it, they fill in the drilled out dimples with weld and then drill the weld to fake the dimple. That wouldn't be so bad, but they stop there. The shallow weld on the barrel is all that holds the part on. That doesn't just give me the warm and fuzzies considering how much force the barrel parts of a 74 experience.

I mean I have nothing against the guy, I just don't want to be in the dark about when to send him money. $850 is a lot to keep set aside for months on end waiting for him to ask for it

Honestly the hype of wanting the kit built ASAP is kind of gone so I'm not in a huge hurry to get it done anymore. I'll get it done eventually and I want to send it off by the end of the year but I dunno, it just isn't the same kind of excitement as it was early on. Im still excited for it but I think skipping the wait for a receiver played a huge part in kind of an exaggerated excitement that wore off and now it's just normal not in a hurry excitement

Yeah, I was thinking about using my kit as a base for a 74m build because I don't think I'm going to go through with two 88 kits like I was thinking about and I want a 74m clone, but I'm still going to go with my original plan if building the rifle as it's meant to be simply because I think it'll be more interesting to me from a historical perspective and just because it'll be as original as it can get from the factory as a true Russian gun. I still just want a basic bitch 74 as if I were issued the rifle at the time and that's what I'm sticking with because itll be the coolest to me that way

Stupid questions time, but I'm real close to biting the bullet on a big purchase for some parts and need some input from the more experienced of you
>is there any appreciable weight difference between a folding stock and a fixed stock, or is it rubbish?
>is there any appreciable difference in control with a fixed stock or m4 style stock versus a folder?
>are there any triangle folders that will fit a fixed stock trunnion?
>are triangles better than wire folders in any way?
Also just a general question but what compensator or muzzle brake has served you best?
>>
>>34947142
>is there any appreciable weight difference between a folding stock and a fixed stock, or is it rubbish?
Depends on the folding stock you want?
>is there any appreciable difference in control with a fixed stock or m4 style stock versus a folder?
Most slav stocks are gonna have a short LOP and if by m4 you mean adjustable then it might be a bit more comfortable but all of them work.
>are there any triangle folders that will fit a fixed stock trunnion?
Yes, manticore arms makes one I believe
>are triangles better than wire folders in any way?
I'd say triangles are definitely better then wires in every way

And finally the tried but true 74 brake is pretty much gtg and I also happen to like the nightbrake from manticore arms.

RAS is a POS, if i had to pick a sharp stick or a loaded ras as a weapon i would take the sharp stick, allow me to explaine

the ras-47 is nothing more than a ak like object designed to separate fudds, newbs and the "merica" crowd from their money

lets look at the details

century ran a great marketing campaign saying how the ras was going to be so much better than even imports, saying they followed spec but improved the design( kek) but when guns started shipping to customers, scary and dangerous things were happening

problems were

>headspace loosening it's self

>blown trunions

>popped rivets

>broken bolt carriers

>out of spec optics rails

also lets take a look at the Merican made status,

sure it's made (assembled) in the u.s but a lot of the critical components are not, the trunions which are cast ( horrible idea to begin with) are rough cast in fucking india, read about the insas rifle to see why poo poo pajeet has no business manufacturing firearm components.

the fsb and rsb are also cast in india, these parts are then brought back to america, where 14$ a hour gunsmiths finish them buy milling them to "spec" the bcg is also cast but done in the u.s then machined, thats when they add in those stupid fucking lighting cuts that with cause bolt carrier failure , the bolt is actually properly made belive it or not and machined out of billet steel. also i guarantee century is too cheap for proper parts inspection and particle testing, so rajeesh's metalwork skills determine if your rifle will kaboom in the first 500 rounds or not .

they then slam this turd together, and make it look real pretty so idiots will buy it, put a nice nitireded finish and some fucking horribly weak wood that looks nice on it.

Basically the ras starts out as a Indian turd that century puts makeup on to sell to uniformed buyers

Looking at getting an adjustable AK gas block for eventually mounting a suppressor on my favorite gun. Do you guys know of any adjustable gas blocks besides the DEZ arms one? I totally get that amigo, I grew up on an island of around 5,000-8,000 and those small towns can be rough if you feel like an outsider at all. I can't imagine how bad it can get in a military town.

I feel like there are a lot of outlying cities to find good people however. Do you surf or take part in the normal beach life?
>>
Got a random question guys. When did Poland start producing their own AKM rifles, and when did they stop and switch to a different rifle? Tried to google but got nothing but a couple brief Wiki articles that mentioned nothing about the above.
>>
>>34950443
They started in the 60's, not sure when. They continued making AKMs into the 80's. By 1988 they had switched to the Tantal in 5.45 after experimenting with some design changes earlier that decade.
>>
>>34950510
Poor Tantal, it never even got a chance to shine because it was too late :(

I'm so fucking happy, now instead of having to drive two hours innamountains I can just go down the street to sight in my Rakurs or blast with 5.45 whenever I want. Indoor ranges will never be as cool as being out in the wild shooting but a 5 minute drive whenever I want to shoot sure beats having to plan a full day just to go shoot out in the mountains
>>
>>34950611

>>
>>34950658
No not yet, I'm always too busy to make the trip out to shoot and when I do go I want to have fun actually shooting instead of getting all mad trying to sight in a potentially goofy Slav scope. Last time I went up innamountains I only brought my vz and P30L, I get more enjoyment making the trip if I pack it light gun wise and just enjoy shooting a long gun and sidearm instead of like a half dozen different guns

JBI maintained the original finish on the barrel parts and even the pins and pin holes have very few signs of having been molested. Impressive. There is a slight nick on the gas block that appears to be from where it was pressed off the stub. Not a big deal
>>
>>34951520
The barrel pin also shows very minimal scarring from the build process which is also impressive considering how much force is required to drift that pin in and out, and that they don't always cooperate

This one has been a long time coming for me but it's as satisfying as I'd hoped. I was kind of expecting that feeling of emptiness but I'm really happy with what I got. My mom asked me how much it was worth and I didn't know what to tell her. Some say kits lose value when they're built. To me it's invaluable. This is a pedastal piece for me. One that I'm not gonna knock around against other guns in the safe. It's going to have plenty of room.
