Random find on arfcom. I was looking for a AK-74 for SLR-104 (like I have been for the last year) that isn't priced ridiculously high and the dude posted as I was browsing the EE. I said fuck it 5.45 isn't going to happen for me until the 104s come back in a couple years and jumped on it. Sold it to me for what they used to go for new and even drove it down to me like the bro he is.

I'll get one then unless >>34440125 happens. I'm considering going full retard and buying the Zenit B30 and B31 rails, 4 piece FH, and TWS dogleg but idk.

>>34440178
Agreed. I remember looking at them when they were $800 and thinking about getting one and everyone of my friends told me to wait because they'd come down. I have shitty friends.

To be fair, we were on a downward trend for pricing before all the artificial inflation bullshit that's gone down.
Between sanctions and filling contracts, the limited availability has driven prices farther than they should be.

>>
>>34445722
The STG I think is Austrian surplus with a DSA semi-selector, but there's no way I'll ever really know, the para is a surplus Belgian

Both are pretty nice IMO and incredibly similar, not gucci light but light relative to a milspec trigger with basically 0 travel and a nice reset, not super short but noticeably shorter than the bulgy surplus in my AK. The STG ones are slightly smoother which I'd just attribute to being used more and being used together whereas the Belgian parts were all pretty unused and from a grabbag

>>
>>34445766
My stock DSA trigger is about 10lbs so I'm thinking of either swapping springs and/or trying a surplus trigger in it. It's not unbearable but it wears on you after a while, and rapid fire would be difficult.

What mags do you use? They're pretty dried up now so I would have to look for a while to find worthwhile surplus ones.

FALFiles, gunthings, tdw, lot of places still have em. Probably gonna be payin 20-25 shipped each but that's just the way it is

gunthings can sell you a complete surplus trigger pack for pretty cheap too, might not be a bad idea to pick one up. Be careful when you do it though, putting together an FAL trigger assembly is probably one of the worst gun related things I have ever attempted to do, it's just such a pain the fucking ass. Do it somewhere well lit and preferably with something to catch the spring and pin when you inevitably sending it flying off into the 9th plane of hell for the dozenth time

Hey /akg/ sorry if this question doesn't really belong here, but I already asked /arg/ and they weren't really able to help me. I currently have 4 ar's in 5.56 and am looking to switch one over to 7.62x39, and was wondering if any of you guys had done this in the past/did research on it as well, and knew which parts were going to need replacing. I have done some research, and it seems all you really need are a new barrel, dedicated 7.62 bolt assembly, and not a "modified bolt" assembly due to bolts sheering off, mags, and possibly a stronger hammer spring depending on the trigger you currently have, I understand that this build largely has feeding issues due to the system being undergassed requiring you to drill out the gas port to at most 1/8th of an inch since most manufacturers don't do this in shop and possibly having to dremel out your two feed ramps to one giant one because the 7.62 round likes to try to ride up the middle of the chamber. Is there anything I am missing that I should look up, or other parts I may need?
>>
>>34447419

I'm doing this mainly due to the fact 7.62x39 is cheap as fuck ~20c for 7.62 vs ~30c for 5.56 for some god awful reason. I typically end up throwing around 25-30k rounds a year so that can add up to a couple extra crates a year. I am by no means pinching pennies here but at the same time I am ya know? I'm looking for a way I can "train" cheaper while still retaining the ergo's and function of the ar. I already have 2 arsenal ak's and 3 ar's which is why i'm not just buying another one. there's no point.

Again I sorry I know this really belongs in arg but when i asked there I didn't really get any input. Like I am here. So thanks to those that did give me helpful responses. I'll stop hijacking the thread now

>>34448205
the ammo prices are in my post
>>34447942
as far as maintenance you literally don't have to do anything really. if you run corrosive ammo just drop boiling water in the receiver and barrel when you're done shooting, dry it and oil it. depending on how good you did with the water you don't even need to oil it. but that's if you're trying to do a torture test.
Gun has plenty of mods these days you can make it as AR as you want except for the bolt hold open and close which is my hang up but if you don't give a shit about that there's really no reason to get a different gun
>>
Can someone please super-spoonfeed me on what all I'll need for doing a partial conversion on a Saiga .223 in which I install bullet guide, move trigger group forward, and then make all standard AK furniture able to fit it?
>>
>>34448272
I noticed groups starting to open up around 10-15k (this seems typical with most ak barrels) and replaced them with whatever was cold hammer forged and chrome lined on atlantic at the time.
>>
>>34447663
The new ones are great.
>>
>>34448333
sorry missed part of the question. the ones I replaced the original barrel with seem to have held up around 1k longer than the original did but this may be due to user vs the barrel as when i first got the sgl I put around 10k rounds through it in a month
>>
>>34448290
I see. Building wise, I'd build the AR according to what i want, give it a theme possibly
With the AK I'm not sure, i could build it if i wanted. I'd like to stick to wooden furniture, i do lick the thumb hole stock. And a deep red is preferred.
Each have their own special style, and the idea of making the AK more AR like feels, in a way, wrong. Ones sleek and modern, the other is rugged and militia like >>34448225
This is why i'm having trouble deciding between them. In my experience each feels unique. I do plan to buy both at some point. But when you dont buy more than 1 gun a year at most, you think very carefully about your purchases.
>>
>>34448459
well then if that's the case you need to think about what you will be doing with it. if it's a range gun then you need to think about ammo prices. ak wins there.
If you're thinking about hunting. ak wins there.
If you're thinking about having a gun to just look at and talk about how awesome it looks and how you're a big manly man. ak wins there.
so as you can see from these three points there's really no reason to not get an ar-15

Which is basically my thoughts on it. I'm poking through the buying guide but is there anything you'd recommend. Its pretty obvious i'm looking for classic rugged AK style in 7.62x39

the buying guide is what you should stick to honestly. But if you're able to go to a actual gun store and fuck around withthe rifles it doesn't apply AS much anymore as even century ak's can suddenly become applicable due to you being able to actually see if that particular rifle has any of the problems most century rifles have. if you however are not able to then stick with the buying guide and stay in your price range I can guarantee you that with ak's from mid to high range you are actually not looking at any real increase in reliability what you are starting to pay for is a increase accuracy and a variable increase in longevity. Also as with everything in this world you're also paying for the name.

Is there a life expectancy for the 4.5mm folder springs and hardware? I mean I know it'll be a long while of hard use to wear them out but there are some springs that in theory might weaken over the years, right? I've got an extra set of hardware I've been trying to sell on the Files but only one guy has wanted it and he bailed on me, so I'm considering just hanging on to the set just in case something on my SLR fails in the future

Is there a reason to hang on to it for this reason or am I retarded and even after decades of using my SLR the hardware isn't going to fail?

They are fine, the followers are cheap, but the mag bodies are chillin. I dropped a loaded one on concrete hard as fuck, and it was totally fine. They are worth it. But Korean steel mags are really cheap, and better quality than molot ones.
>>
>>34448646
The only thing you need to worry about wearing out are the trunnion holes for the hinge pin. Optimally you want the pin to stay stationary and the stock to rotate around the pin. If the pin rotates with the stock then it will wear out the trunnion holes over time. I've noticed some of the newer Arsenals actually have the pins staked to prevent them from rotating.

You don't need to worry about the spring wearing out. Something in the mechanism could break, including the spring, but I mean, anything can break.

Do any of you guys have this brake? It is supposed to be an American made clone of the Russian SRVV jet brake. Anybody know if this type of brake is more effective than the 74 style brake? I want to put this on my OPAP

Are there any restrictions on having scopes and optics shipped from other countries to the states? Like if I had a friend in Europe that could ship me a red dot would that be illegal.

Most optical sighting devices are regulated under ITAR, but the reality is that if it doesn't look glaringly like a gun scope then it'll come through no problem.

Everything is better then the 74 style brake with the exception of the tapco one.
>>
>>34449031
Don't. It's not worth building. Good tools are gonna cost more then the parts.

It's not like 5 years ago were parts kits were cheaper.

My stock moves around the pin and the pin stays stationary, at least with my triangle as that's what is on the gun now. I was like 99% sure nothing would be breaking unless I beat the crap out of it for like three decades maybe, but I just wanted to confirm so that I can decide if I want to hang on to it or not

Hey guys my friend is selling off his guns and he has a WASR and he said a Yugo (zastava?) that he'd part with for $600 each. Which one should I get? Both are in unfired condition, stored properly. I've seen them before he literally doesn't shoot his guns just collects them.

Is one better than the other if they're the same price? Should I offer $1000 for both because fuck it?

TL;DR WASR or Yugo AK rifle for $600? Quick pro/con rundown optional.
>>
>>34449139
is the yugo an opap? bulged receiver
>>
>>34449139
WASR

It has a chrome-lined barrel, which PAPs don't, and it will take nearly any AK furniture, while Yugo will only take Yugo furniture for the most part.
>>
>>34449181
You know I didn't ask. This would be my entry level AK purchase. Is there a telltale marking that would tell me if it's an OPAP? Are those something I should avoid or attract to lol?

>>34449185
Thank you for the input. I've heard about the absence of chrome lined barrels in the Yugo''s and for the amount I shoot I'd think I should have one.

I don't have an exact figure, because I've sold stuff from it I don't need, like Israeli parts I replaced with SA parts.

Probably around $2500 built and finished in nitride. I used Hillbilly Firearms.

A real 80s import Galil is going to be roughly $3000 in good shape that hasn't been faked.

Main problem with these are barrels. I was lucky enough to get a virgin IMI 1-7 twist barrel for my build.

Other have to use either surplus 1:12s (no longer found) or make do with Green Mountain (crap) or custom barrel blanks.
