I've always been curious on how individual guys over there choose their rifles/are given their rifles

Like do some of them also have AK autism and prefer certain models or whatever, like if someone would go out of his way for an underfolder or sidefolder or a rifle from a particular country, or if they just get what they get but if that's the case if they'd swap their rifle for another they'd prefer or whatever

Really makes me think, I've always wondered that

From what ive watched, side folders are prized over fixed stock, higher ranking individuals usally carry one. I love watching the ak in combat, it helps me understand why it is the rifle it is.
>>
>>34339275
My guess; beggars aren't choosers.
But if a nicer or more appealing rifle were to come into their possession, they'd pass their rifle onto someone else.

Gentlemen,

I've been making considerations for how I want to carry and store my Polish Undefolder.

I am debating between leaving one in the chamber or not.

I carry my handgun with one in the pipe always, but it had a firing pin block. My AK does not have a firing pin block, but since the firing pin is inert, my logic is that the hammer has to fall in order for a round to discharge.

I would like to carry one in the pipe on my rifle buy I want to get some opinions before i win a Darwin award.

Short of the hammer falling, I think the gun would have to drop muzzle down against a hard surface faster than the hammer normally actuates the firing pin.

I think I feel weird about it because of accidents I've heard of with people dropping long guns, particularly shotguns. I also heard of a guy overseas who apparently had the butt of his m4 get hit hard against the floor of a vehicle and it discharged. It's all hearsay and no one whose name I actually know.

I feel like in any situation where I have to use my rifle I won't want to pull the charging handle, I'll want to flip off the safety and go to work.

I have a full auto safety and I'm not sure if I can trust it.

My plan for testing my rifle for safety today is to unload it, cock it, and slam it against stuff to see if the hammer falls

What do you guys think? What condition do you carry your rifle? I currently carry my rifle condition 3.

if you have a semi-auto fire control group then the fire selector slipping upward too far (or if you ahve the dust cover off and move it upward) it will fire.

lift the fire selector lever away from the receiver with mild pressure, move it up and see if it slips over the top-cover. If it doesn't you're probably okay.

Keep one in the chamber.

The gas hole in the gas block would not perfectly align with the gas port in the barrel in such a way that the gas tube would still fit correctly. The gas port in the barrel would have to be expanded so that it would align properly. It's not a big deal but it's not a completely straightforward swap either.

>>
>>34342619
I couldn't say for certain, my other 7.62 AK is a straight AKM so it's quite a bit lighter. The handling alone is worth it. 7.62 with that barrel length and a slav optic really shift the point of balance back over your hands. Subjectively it just feels like a lean mean weapon

No need to be a smartass when you didn't ask what AK74 features the 107-11has, the question was what 74 features does the "SLR" have, sorry that I'm not fucking psychic and didn't realize you were asking about the black sheep of the SLR family, not the more common fr models. Honestly there's nothing more frustrating on the Files than sellers who cease contact after you pay them, whenever I sell something I PM the buyer when the item will be going out, when it does go out and with tracking, and if they don't get in touch with me when it arrives I'll contact them to make sure everything is good. It's really frustrating and annoying when you pay someone and they just stop talking to you and then eventually the item ends up in your mailbox/on your porch, especially when it's a few hundred dollars of stuff

Hey guys, I have an interest in aks, but I have a tism when my guns share ammo. I already got an sks so that leaves out 7.62x39. Whats a good ak74 or rpk in 5.45?

A dead caliber.

Unless you can stock up 10k rounds in the next month or so to hedge against an import ban then don't.

>>
>>34344056
>wont 7.62x39 be just as dead if they ban the companies producing commercial 5.45?
Nope.
Because plenty of US producers make it, and it's a common enough caliber that US factories would step up to fill the void in order to cash in.

5.45 is uncommon enough among US gun owners that an importation ban wouldn't exactly cause a bunch of manufacturers to come running to replace it; at least not for a reasonable (sub 30 cpr) price.

5.45 has more than doubled in price in the last few years and when/if they ban the Tulskiy Patronniy Zavod factory from import it will double again if not more. there was already a scare about that happening a few months ago
>>

>>
>>34344159
It doubled in price because 7n6 got hit with the ATF reclassification, which had nothing to do with sanctions. Commercial 5.45 has largely stayed the same price; only the once-super-cheap surplus has gone up due to rarity.

It would last a normal person 1-2 decades, especially if only used for sighting and hunting.

If you're the type to hit up a range and blast through 1,000 rounds in a day or go to the range once or twice a week then sure, buy more.

Dad just gave me this thing. How do I fix it up? I want to make it as aesthetic as possible while retaining functionality.

For starters, I'll get it wood furniture and a repaint. you can't see in the pic but it's scratched as fuck. I also need a new dust cover with a rail that doesn't cut me when using the charging handle. Plus optics. What else?

PS: it's a WASR. I have no idea what it's worth and I was curious about what it'll cost to refurbish with the things I just mentioned.

Fiocci and PPU both sell brass cased 7.62x39. The Fiocci goes on sale at academy every now and then at around steel case prices. Domestic manufacturers aren't going to make a fucking dime off me if Russian imports cease.

what this guy said, cleaning rod, wood (romy wood would look nice on it and its not too expensive), and a slant brake. after that you got yourself a nice AK, keep it scratched mine has surface rust from previous owners and it just adds character. Rifle doesn't need optics, but if you really want it then do your research.

all im saying is a scratched or beaten up AK isn't anything new, and really I kind of like the look of them with a bit of wear, makes it seem like its been used other then sitting pretty in a safe. Either way you won't notice any difference in shooting it, it's all subjective. I still get compliments at the range for my wasr and you can tell it's far from perfect. Apart from the russian wood on mine and the russian bakelite magazine, we practically have the same rifle.

$650-700 is probably more reasonable. I paid $399 for mine a few months back but that seems not exactly the market price.

The thing to keep in mind about the SA is that it's a ban era gun, and the fit/finish is kinda shoddy, but all the parts were made on Soviet tooling and the barrel is an original hammer forged chrome lined barrel. That adds a bit of value too, even if it is unthreaded.

For those of you who have AKs with side rails, how do you keep the receiver underneath them protected in the areas that are unpainted (i.e., around the rivets underneath that are covered by the rail)?

Do you just hit it with a spray of CLP along the gap?
>>
>>34347718
Honestly it's fucked. You just have to keep hitting it with oil. Once rust starts forming in the space between the steels there's really not much you can do about it. It's the most obnoxious thing about AKs to me, because they have a lot of spot welded components where rust can form in the gaps.

That's what I figured. I got some more brownish gunk to come out, reoiled and resprayed, then it started coming out the same color as it went in, so I'm assuming it was just dirt from the assembly process and not rust. I highly doubt it was able to rust in the 5 days it took to get to me from the builder anyway.

Wait, are you the 1983 kit anon?

74uLLC receivers will rust very easily anywhere they're not painted

It's right in the name for fuck's sake, how did anyone not see this coming?

Meanwhile he's busy on IG 3D printing rear trunnions and sight blocks, because apparently cast components aren't weak enough.

>kit build
Lol, maybe the "gunsmith" spilled his bud ice and didn't clean well enough before assembly
>>
>>34347805
Yeah, that's me. I don't really have any other options but to keep that area oiled, I think. I do my best to keep my apartment at a very modest humidity level though, and I'm not exactly planning to take this rifle out into the elements, so I'm hoping I'll be alright.
>>
>>34347848
That's pretty much it. Luckily the receivers are bead blasted and have capillary action with the oil. Just keep it oiled and it won't progress. And don't get too upset with Meridian over that, it's not standard procedure to paint the receiver before doing any riveting for most builders.
>>
>>34347888
I'm not mad about it at all; the only way I could imagine having those parts actually painted would be to paint the receiver after riveting, thein painting it *again* once the side rail is bolted on so the area under the side rail is painted.

I double checked the area with a good flashlight just now; it's not rust, just some dirt from what I can tell. Looks about the same color as the areas on my Maadi where the Egyptians went "fuck it" with the paint. I'm just making sure I need to add this step to my preventative maintenance routine and I'm not just being paranoid.
>>
>>34347795
that looks disgusting senpai

Hey, guys, the ammo shipment I bought a few days before the Vepr ban finally came in. What is y'all's experience with Silver Bear 5,45, and how is the Hornady ammo for home defense? Better than Golden Tiger? Pic related.

Circle 10 AK has the same "range grade" plums for like $28 each, but there's no bulk discount. Legion got cleaned the fuck out over Father's Day.

If you're real desperate, I might need to sell a few plums and bakes this coming week, but I'm not sure if I will or not yet so don't wait on me.

Magpul FDE AK. Is this a good looking gun? I was gonna make my WASR into one of these, the only thing the pic is missing is the cheap plastic FDE magazines I found l for like 6 bucks a pop.

Opinions on Flat Dark Earth in general? And why do people keep saying it doesn't look like an AK anymore?

Dont cut off the hand guard retainer, you will regret it.

for a range mag pmags are fine. only for range.

Silver bear 545 has been good to go, I like barnaul ammo.
>how is the Hornady ammo for home defense? Better than Golden Tiger?
Yes, golden tiger is only god tier yawing fmj in 762x39. GT used a different bullet shape in their 545 lineup though and lost that air gap up front. 60gr bear 545 etc should yaw much better in flesh than gt 545, and I've experienced it's fast yaw in flesh taking out critters with bear, along with gt 762x39.
