What the fuck am I supposed to do with my ARs now that I'm bored of them? I don't even take my recce build to the range anymore.

I almost want to trade them for AK mags and ammo at this point.

Alright guys, serious question. For those of you in more humid states, how do you keep your guns from rusting in your safe?

I've got all the works in my safe: a small dehumidifier, silica gel, a small heater (off brand Goldenrod), electric thermometer, everything I can think of to try and control my safe's interior but I still get some guns that start to rust. My StG-58 and AR get light rust if I don't oil them monthly or so (not that big of an issue because I oil them all monthly and that keeps these two from starting to rust, would obviously prefer if it didn't happen though) but the polished bolt and bolt carrier in my Type 56 start to get light rust even quicker if I don't oil it every two or three weeks. I'm at my wits end, I don't know what else to do to prevent it.

I'm honestly considering sending my Type 56 back to my parents' house as they don't have this issue in my dads' safe and I'm getting tired of it being a problem with my chinkshit
>>
>>34327327
wheres the safe located?
>>
>>34327327
Did you put the goldenrod at the bottom of the interior of the safe?
>>
>>34327327
Mine just sit open in my closet if they're not scattered around my desk

Keep them away from the foam in the bags/cases, they hold moisture
>>
>>34327359
In my bedroom, only other place to put it is in another room which won't make a difference with rust or out in the garage which I don't feel is secure enough

>>34327369
Yes, it's in the front by the door though, would it make a difference if I put it near the back where it'd be more confined under the guns and shelves?
>>
>>34327244
I would be looking to buy in the next month or two
>>
>>34327385
This, I lived in SW Florida for a few years and none of my guns ever rusted from sitting around my room.

I stuck an 870 in a plastic case with foam and the fucker was covered by morning.
>>
>>34327386
Dunno if it would make a difference, I just know they're supposed to be near the bottom. I would consider buying a full size dehumidifier. My parents have two in their basement where my gun safe is and I never have rust problems in the safe. Also have an off brand goldenrod.
>>
>>34327385
>>34327404
No foam anywhere in the safe, I dont leave them in foam ever

I mean the walls of the safe have that typical carpet-ish safe lining but that shouldn't be an issue and doesn't explain why the bolt and carrier are developing rust while still inside the gun
>>
>>34327442
Make sure your dehumidifier isn't running backwards then, idk. Only time I've ever dealt with rust problems on a gun was a few years ago when a family member left a 1911 in a foam case and I cleaned it up for them
>>
>>34327442

Not a ban, a sanction on Molot, which means the US can't do business with Molot anymore. There is a chance that products that have already been paid for are not affected, and there may be a last run of imports coming in, but I don't know this.

How do I make a non-SBR but still legal obrez?
I've read something about cutting and rewelding the receiver making it a "new" pistol so it's non-illegal, but I don't get the concept.

I know it's more of a milsurp general question but /akg/ actually knows stuff about making/machining firearms while they generally don't.
>>
>>34328972
Cut two recievers into scrap. Need to make sure that you have overlap.
Re weld the parts into one functional reciever. This is now a virgin reciever and can legally be made as a pistol.
>>
>>34329020
So, having cut them both and welded them would you then need to go source a new barrel.
Explain it to me like a toddler, with MS paint drawing if you'd be so kind.
>>
>>34328760

They are already trying to push more sanctions on top of the molot ban through on the Russian arms industry, its a very real possibility that Russian ammo gets banned, only a matter of time IMO

OK, so since I tend to worry myself educated, I did some sleuthing. I found out that the sanctions that went through the Senate and are being slightly modified to move through the House are in S.722, the Countering Iran's Destabilizing Activities Act of 2017: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/722/text

Now, before I go any further, let me state that I am not a lawyer and that it is 3AM where I am, so I may be missing some stuff, but there are no specifically named individuals or entities being targeted by sanctions in this bill. The most relevant part is Section 234. Of note are sanctions against anyone who helps the Syrian government:

>(D) acquire significant defense articles, defense services, or defense information (as such terms are defined under the Arms Export Control Act (22 U.S.C. 2751 et seq.)); or

>(E) acquire items designated by the President for purposes of the United States Munitions List under section 38(a)(1) of the Arms Export Control Act (22 U.S.C. 2778(a)(1)).

I looked up the codes both of those lines refer to. The first one looks like it's pretty much just heavy weaponry and equipment - tanks, bombs, planes, etc. It's the second one that would be concerning, as ammunition does fall under the USML mentioned. However, the USML only applies to stuff being *exported from the U.S.*, which Barnaul/Vympel/Ulyanovsk obviously don't. The rest of the stuff under Section 234 is pretty much just NBC weapons, missiles, and small arms, which are already being sanctioned.

tl;dr: if I read this right (and I'm really hoping I did), the new sanctions bill doesn't touch Russian ammo at all unless the company is making much larger stuff, which as far as I can tell, they don't (the "Vympel" that makes GT is different from the Vympel that makes Russian A2A missiles).

Feel free to take a look and draw your own conclusions, or ask a lawyer, but as far as I can tell, we can breathe easy. For now.

What's the going rate for a Sar 1? I heard that you can use certain 74 mags with it by changing out the follower and that got my attention. I'd love to be able to use plum mags and use a caliber that's everywhere.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Question for those who have purchased a gun from atlantic firearms before:

I just bought a rifle from them, and I found my LGS in the little ffl finder during the checkout process, and selected him, then completed checkout. Do I need to have him send his FFL info, or does the fact that I was able to select him mean that they have the info on file?
>>
>>34331759
Oh gotcha. Yeah I've been on the fence about getting one for awhile. I saw the good version on ebay go for $700. At that price I'd rather just get something stupid like NIT and put it on my krink

One other thing I wanted to add that I thought of this morning: the U.S. government is less likely to touch Russian ammo for the simple reason that we arm a large number of rebel groups with combloc guns.

The sanctions are a part of why the DoD wants American-made AKs, DSHKs, NSVs, etc. 7.62x39 has a number of producers, but other calibers like 12.7x108 aren't really made in significant quantities outside of Russia. The DoD and our intelligence agencies aren't especially keen to hand off NATO-caliber weapons for a number of reasons, such as making the U.S.'s involvement in a conflict obvious, and that means any heavy MGs or similar small arms handed off to rebels are going to be fed with Russian ammunition.

Remember, we bought Russian Mil Mi-17 helicopters for the Afghans right up until late last year, and the main reason they're getting Sikorskys now was because Congress didn't like continuing to feed the Russian economy to equip an ally - Mil was never sanctioned, though the sanctions made it hard to procure parts for the Afghan helicopters. In the case of providing munitions for Russian small arms that we're currently doubling down on handing out to the point of trying to make them ourselves, there isn't much of a choice at the moment.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but to me it's just one more sign pointing to "no ammo sanctions coming."

How good are the PK-AT red dot sights?

How much accuracy can I expect from a 308 AK-platform rifle with such a sight? How do these sights compare to other red dot sights in the market?
>>
>>34332616
They will add about +2 accuracy but remember these are red dots and not true sniper scopes. +2 is actually pretty good for AK DMR
>>
>>34332649
considering these are one third the price of an Aimpoint:

As far the price/quality is concerned, how do they fair?
I assume they are built to last as they are Milspec. If we take the weight out of the equation, how good is the red dot compared to modern red dots?
>>
Sup guys, brand new AK owner here, going shooting this weekend innawoods.

i have a surplus ancient "pill" AK cleaning kit, and the included rod mounted under the barrel, but unfortunately the cap on the pill does not have the hole to be used as a guide for the rod, are these acceptable to clean the gun or will a noob like me fuck everything up?

should i just buy a modern cleaning kit?

thanks for reading my noobish shit.
>>
>>34332854
About the same, a red dot. The only real shortcomings of Russian red dots are weight and battery life, but ok the flip side they often take AA batteries and are Russian tuff. The glass is quite good too. Beware who you buy from, some merchants peddle factory seconds

I'll be honest, I don't even do anything different. It still takes 10mins to clean my gun and don't get rust. 12ga brushes and snakes work wonders in a gas tube to get it 1000% clean.
And a little layer of oil most places means no chance for corrosion anyway.
And besides, that's not much reason to shoot anything corrosive nowadays anyway. Prices are so similar per round in most cases that it's just not worth buying corrosive.

>>34333128
Your objective is to dissolve the salts that are deposited in your rifle by the primers. They will rust your gun. You need to dissolve them and wash them out. Water is all you need, warm water is better because it makes for a better solvent. Let it dry then oil.

I really want to build a VEPR in 5.56, but it looks as if all the big name companies that do magazine well conversions are out of business. It'd be great to have a build that I put some love into, but considering that Definitive Arms has gone MIA and Molot is not only going bankrupt, but banned from importing stuff, it looks like VEPRs might be off the table for me.

So I'm a poorfag that just wants a simple fucking 7.62x39 that I can find a folding stock and other shit for later.
From what I understand, I'm pretty much looking for a Century Import, right? Not sure about Yugo.

Yugo rifles are fine but they don't except a lot of furniture. You are right about the Century /imports/. Owned one, regret selling it, and it was great. For folding stocks I'd suggest a CNC warrior folding stock or mechanism.

Maryland has arbitrary bullshit laws about what is or isn't a copycat weapon. Although the 106 shouldn't meet the definition of a copycat weapon, it's not explicitly cleared for sale, meaning it's still banned. Currently, the only Arsenal legal in Maryland is the 104 series.

Plus, with magazine limits, I'd have to get a gunsmith to neuter those expensive as fuck mags.
>>
>>34336906

This guy has one. Few others on here have talked about it and say nothing but good things. I was planning on buying one when I had my WASR too before college debt and a family death came through the door.

It's not 5.5mm like AK folding trunnions. I mean it might be but it would just be coincidence. It's unique to Molot and RPKs.

The problem is that you're unlikely to find the hinge by itself. You can find them sold as units on the usual websites, with the trunnion as well. But you have to buy the trunnion with it. Usually like $250, and that's without the buttstock.

Also, I'm not entirely sure that they're compatible, but I'll find out next Thursday.
>>
>>34336967
Beryl rifle? Haven't attempted to look into those but that is another 5.56 ak. Sounds like fucking bullshit now that I am reading your states gun laws.
>>
>>34337004
That is find, I'm a different dude then the one you spoke to (I originally typed in all caps). I've nagged about that hinge before here because of this one cool looking collapsing Russian stock I found on legion. Would you mind sharing a link to where I could find the whole mechanism? I'm willing to drop some $350 for the stock, $250 on the mechanism, and w/e for the labor. It'll take a bit but I want a sick nasty AK
>>
>>34336356
Pure sex. I am putting together a custom build for a very similar setup. Main difference is AMD gas tube length, which is about an inch shorter.

I have not seen Beryls for sale recently.

For me, I want an AK in 5.56 not just to circumvent Maryland's legal bullshit, but because I want a rifle that combines good aspects from both worlds--preferably a 5.56 AK with an AR magazine adapter.

Although I understand why people love the AR-15 and suggest an HBAR as an alternative, I just get sick of seeing ARs because they're so prolific. Call me a hipster all you like but the only AR I'd buy would be an Ares SCR.

I fucking hate this state but I thank God every night that at least it isn't Cali.

>Misr 10s require some work to make right. Id pass for 500$.
The issue being, that's the cheapest I've seen one in my area in the past year.

Once again circling back to the fact that /AKG/ gives extremely lowball financial advice.
>>
>>34338531
First, stop limiting yourself to your local area.
You'll only end up settling for a gun that's not quite worth it.
Second, it's /akg/ not /AKG/.
Get it right or get the fuck out.
And third, we obviously know more about AKs than you do, so our "financial advice" is mostly sound.
If you want an actual price check go buy a Blue Book of Gun Values

Enjoy the hunt for an AK, and come back when you can't stay as long.
>>
>>34338602
>Wish it was back in the day of $300 WASRs and $80 Mosins

>"We obviously know more about AKs than you"
>>
>>34338677
aks and mosins are the same price now as they were back then when u adjust for cost of living and inflation
>>
>>34338745
Mosins were between $80-120 in 2008.
Now I usually see them between $200-300.

There's no way the price of everything has doubled/trippled in 9 years.
>>
>>34338677
Now, to be fair I never gave you any advice.
Generally speaking though, there's not a ton of spoonfeeding around here, so doing your own research is what's expected.
And if you ask for, and get shit advice, then that's your own fault for not using that internet machine to find out what you're trying to get fed here.
>But generally speaking if it's a INTRAC or PARS and in good shape with nothing majorly wrong, it'd probably be worth $6-700, maybe a little higher if it's minty.
