Mounting a light under the barrel, how dumb is this? Trying to decide on a light for my AR (shitbasic midlength with magpul furniture), and I was between a Surefire G2X or a Stremlight Protac, plus small rail section and magpul light mount. But then I realized if I put my TLR-3 mounted on the picatinny section as far forward as possible under the barrel, it casts the barrel shadow for only 1/3rd of the light ring, and doesn't seem to obstruct view. Should I just get a TLR-1 and be done with it, or am I just eating shit and the G2X/Protac are really better?

I'm sorry, I'm either used to FSB (I like them for the permanent sight thing) or lo-pro sights. I think railed gas blocks are totally hideous, they may not be the right place to mount a back up sight due to heat, and they might get in the way if you plan on mounting a free-float rail.

This one is unpleasant, I'd recommend against it. I bought one from them and not only did the thing rattle loudly, but because it's aluminum it was very unpleasant on my face, it scratched paint off my receiver extension and it was considerably heavier than the plastic one. When I returned it to Tony's still unfired, they charged a 15% return fee.

Tony's also makes a fiberlite clone for about the same price as M&A (call and ask for JUST the stock). But I don't like the company on the grounds of their return policy.
