Do ARs like to be dry or wet?

Yesterday I was at a big MG shoot, and some asshat fatty with a truckload of AR's set up shop next to me. I've seen this guy before and he supposedly runs a smithing business here in MN

I heard him at one point say "ARs like to be wet. Wetter the better."

Pretty sure I read the opposite, both here and in a magazine. I'm very picky about where I put oil in mine, but it doesn't give me any problems.

Dry in my experience. You can see from the aftermath of a wet AR that wetter isn't better; the majority of all that oil gets splattered all over you and your gun.

I put one drop on each wear point and no more. Even putting that little, some ends up seeping out the back where the upper meets the lower.

Its even worse suppressed, filth sticks to EVERYTHING when you over-oil.

I've put 1000 rounds through my .45 this month, 1000 rounds through my 9, and close to 1000 rounds through my ar. I've been shooting like once a week. I can get about 90% of my .45 shots on target at 100 yards and my targets at 25 yards look better than everyone else I have seen at the range at 10 yards. I don't normally brag but I'm a little drunk right now. I still don't like my levergun enough to get good with it. I'll bring it along next range trip and give it another chance.
