What's the most fun pistol you own that doesn't cost a fortune? SAAs, .357 revolvers, .22 revolvers, .22 automatics, and 1911s all seem like a good time to me, and the SD9VE needs some company.

My definition of "a fortune" may differ from yours, but the Glock 17 Gen 4 has gone in price considerably.

I remember when they were at least $900. Now you can find them for less than $800 brand new.

Canadian Force questions.

Why are there basically no CF threads on /k/?

And how does the CF works language-wise? How do you get shit done?
>>
>>33982323
>CF threads
they pop up once in a while and are short lived because there isn't much to discuss about a military from a fairly irrelevant country. try leddit, has a pretty big CF community.

>>
>>33982323
>And how does the CF works language-wise? How do you get shit done?

people who only speak one language are usually sent to a base that mostly speaks that language, in the event that and english speaker is sent to Quebec (or vice versa) they are put into language training school.

It usually works just fine, the only time Ive ever had a problem was in basic when I had a Master Bombardier who had only been speaking english for a year was trying to teach an entirely english speaking class about something and nobody could understand a word he said.
>>
>>33981944
The SD9VE is basically a Glock, so I wouldn't find that very fun.

because the canadian military is tiny and mostly comprised of career soldiers where as tons of people do a short stint in the military in the US

also like 1% of their population is in active or reserve service vs. our 0.2%

if going by raw population the US military is 30~ times bigger than ours

Things you can't do with drones:

>Higher than 90 metres.
>Within 75 metres of buildings, vehicles, vessels, animals or people.
>More than 500 metres away from the user.
>At night, in clouds or somewhere you can't see it.
>Within nine kilometres of somewhere aircraft take off or land, or a forest fire.
>Without your name, address and phone number marked on the drone itself.
>Over forest fires, emergency response scenes or controlled airspace.

They may as well have just outright banned them

Only the first 2 rules are excessive. The rest is pretty common-sense safety shit, especially when you consider forest fires are fought primarily with aircraft.
>>
>>33989163
>implying this isn't the kind of fudd attitude that threw the rest of the firearms community under the bus decades ago
I wasn't implying that, I agree completely. Hence why they're a dangerous political opponent, having a gun gives them credibility in the eyes of fence-sitters
>implying fudds are predominantly NDP or liberals
I would be correct in that implication, however
>>
>>33989212
the forest fire thing is such an irrelevant and rare scenario who gives af

rule #2 is really what kills it all, 9km from aircraft is excessive too, that means you can't fly them in any city
>>
>>33989212
I'm inclined to think the kid kept flying it on his property despite being asked now too, and ask pointed out already the kid was flying it illegally

personally i wouldn't shoot someones drone but i don't think that guy should be charged with anything

the fact all they could hit him with was mischief, which is an incredibly vague arbitrary law shows that he wasn't really legally in the wrong
>>
>>33989228
>forest fires are rare and irrelevant
Wut? And sure it might not be too likely to happen, but I'm pretty sure that the guy flying the water bomber still feels safer knowing some idiot isn't buzzing a drone around, trying to get a cool video for facebook.

>>33989273
Honestly I hadn't heard anything about the case until the mention above, but I've seen enough idiots screaming about how they'd shoot any drones they saw flying around their house that I have no trouble believing that might have happened.

Also it's not strange for new laws to be enforced loosely when they first come out, especially when it's dealing with a new technology (just look at all the shit going on with the internet, and that's been around a little while now)... I wouldn't be surprised if what they did was basically copy and paste the laws for RC airplanes.
>>

>you don't NEED guns. Why hunt? Just by your meat from the market
>I bet most people who have licenses are crazy and don't know how to use one properly anyways
>it's a dangerous hobby, smoke weed instead
>knives shouldn't be banned tho, they're tools and have multiple uses plus criminals will do criminal things anyways

>>
>>33989414
yeah, i mean as far as a scope of people that would effect it's tiny, and it's something that goes without saying

the forest fire thing will never be relevant to 99.9% of drone users is what i'm trying to say

>I wouldn't be surprised if what they did was basically copy and paste the laws for RC airplanes.

Also from Southern Alberta and from experience it usually depends on where you go to shoot. I usually shoot at a bubba ass range that not too many people go to in Spring Coulee and almost always don't have issues. Hell sometimes there's some pretty cool people who always ask about my Schmidt-Rubin or my M95 Steyr-Mannlicher whenever the enbloc falls out.

But if I go to the range locally in Lethbridge then there's always some faggotry about, usually people bothering me on not having a modern rifle or pistol.

Pic unrelated, picked up a Walther P1 the other day.

Nice quads anon

Is the six month grace period Harper gave us in effect right now? I remember Bill C-42 had a lot of rocky shit that was only sorta, kinda, not really put through when it first passed.
>>
>>33998909
Apparently it is, but the amnesties are going to end apparently this year.

From the CCFR facebook page:

>Under the Harper government, law abiding gun owners were given an amnesty for their expired PAL, approximately 8 times.

>As of Dec 31, 2017, gun owners will be required to renew expired licenses within the 6 month grace period. No further amnesties will be provided.
>>
Has anyone ever applied for RCMP?
>>
>>33998955
Wait, what
>Under the Harper government gun owners got a 6 month grace period
>As off Dec 31, 2017, gun owners will still have a 6 month grace period
What is the point of saying this? Am I missing something?

Basically we have a 6 month grace period with additional amnesties allowed so if we don't get our PAL renewed by the end of the 6 month grace period we don't get anally pounded by the RCMP for their bureaucracy.

>>33998989
I want to see that Private MP Bill get passed through. Gives us a suspended license that allows us to own what we own. We still have to renew but it just gives us the ability to go and purchase more guns and ammo.

no, I did mine 5 month before expiry and got the renewal in like a couple of weeks. /k/ psyched me out and I felt like a retard when I got the new card with like 4 months to go on the old one.

at the end of the day it's better to do it too early than too late, and could depend on how busy they are at the time you're doing it. but I would say 6 months is plenty of time, renewing your license a year ahead of time, considering that under new law you have a grace period to renew is a bit autismo in my opinion

>if a gun gets banned you want to get get the 12.X that goes with it
how real is this? isn't it more likely that they will just get it confiscated? let's say the 858/Swiss Arms ban stuck -- the expectation was that people were supposed to turn them in (inB4 "but they're not registered", that's not the point). there was never any talk from the authorities about letting people keep them and giving out Prohibited licenses.

also, if we are assuming you are right, would they give you a Prohibited license for your particular firearm or would you expect one that lets you buy any Prohibited at that point?
>>
>>34011139
Not real at all the 12.X licences are done there have been quite a few other bans that weren't as common as the 858/SA ban that they got away with and didn't grandfather or buyback shit.

Yeah polymer mags or most plastics for that matter do not fare well in "sub arctic" temps which is basically winter anywhere in Canada aside from South Ontario, Vancouver and the East coast.

>>34011235
Lancer mags or mags with metal feed lips may fare better but they may still break where the metal feed lips and polymer body meet.

So they'll all be stuck at 5 and expensive, instead of 10 and cheap if they'd gone with Glock. Nice, NEA, nice.
>>
>>34011331
The thing with uzi mags is they can be imported from the states in bulk by NEA for super cheap which I think is what they intend to do.
>>
>>34011359
Still, double capacity is a big draw to PCCs here, and the magpul glock mags are pretty damn cheap. Plus tons of people already have the Glock to use mags from, nobody except CTG has an uzi and a pile of magazines already.

Hello fellow leafs.
Recently after now building my second AR I have been wondering about doing small scale manufacture to open up another small canadian arms producer. Because, lets face it. Getting parts to come over the border is expensive and fucking hassle.
SO I had the idea to see if I could produce AR lowers and possibly upper receivers. Then moving on to more complex parts as time goes on.
But while Im looking into the options as far as production goes I cant find any conformation on what one would need to do to become a legal firearm manufacturer up here in Leafistan.
Ontop of that whats the legal stand point on AR lowers? I heard a rumor that the RCMP was planning on changing the classification on some AR lowers As well as the status of 0% and 80% lowers, does anyone have any info on that?
>>
>>34014114
I've been trying for a year to get manufacturing licenses to produce firearms, restricted firearms, and firearm parts.

Filling out ridiculous forms, getting approval for completely arbitrary bullshit, and still not even getting a fucking reply. I will never stop being absolutely FUCKING LIVID ABOUT THIS COCKFUCKING BULLSHIT.
>>
>>34014114
> what one would need to do to become a legal firearm manufacturer
You need to speak with the RCMP CFP, all I know is that they will inspect your business premises before you can start operation. You also need to follow some extra security measures that most machine shops don't have.

>whats the legal stand point on AR lowers?
At 100% They are the firearm even without parts or barrel, can only be sold to RPAL and must be registered in to your business until you sell them.
80% they are a paperweight and can be sold to anyone.

>AR-15 reclassification
They always have been the only credible info was a pitch to a former safety minister under the Harper government that got laughed out, I can find a copy for you if you want.

>80% reclassification
No credible info but I have no doubt that the RCMP is always planning something.

What kind of firearms would you make?
>>
>>34014495
As a machinist and gunsmith (formal education in both, currently employed in the former), I would make muzzle devices (brakes, flash hiders), my own model of firearm that shares many AR-15 parts but would be non-restricted a bit like the ATRS hunter/varminter except reasonable price and a lot of other "changes". I would also make chassis for certain rifles, a few traditional-ish bolt actions, a few wacky varmint/target bolt-action single shots, and some other stuff.

It would be my weekend thing so I'd still have a regular job unless it took off and I felt secure enough to expand it to a full-time career. I have capital saved up, prototypes functional, processes of operations, CAD models with dimensioning, CNC toolpaths proved out, manual operations ready, I even have the cutting tools (endmills, drills, etc) ready to go.

I basically just need to have the RCMP/CFO say "ok" but at this point I don't think it'll happen. They don't return any calls, they don't return any letters. I have some other avenues to explore, like work under contract from a local gun store business or local gunsmith that already has the licenses, but that's another headache.
>>
>>34014513
What province are you in?
>>
>>34014532

>>
>>34014534
Haha, yeah. Our CFO is shit. When they know they are in the wrong, they just stop answering.

It sounds like you have a bunch of time/money already invested in it. Have a lawyer send them a registered letter saying that they can either answer you of their own volition or they can answer you in court.
>>
>>34014548
Yep, it's why I went to college and gunsmithing in the first place, I've had this dream building up almost ten years now. I would've had an alpha production prototype last year if it'd gone well.

It does give me time to tweak the CAD/process, so it hasn't been all bad, but I'm definitely sour about the whole affair. I got a new job that should start soon, I think it'll help out.

Gonna go sleep a little, thanks for letting me vent a bit.

I know that's how they used to it in the old days, but now that it's dwenny zebundeen, how likely is it now?

I mean, when the CZ858 and Swiss Arms Green were briefly banned, they just said "lel, turn 'em in" instead of "we're sorry, here's a 12.x for your troubles."

I thought it was ridiculous how cheap the ammo was.

For the price of a case of x54R, I can get roughly double that in x39.

>Petition to the House of Commons
>Whereas:

>We, the undersigned, residents of Canada draw the attention of the House to the following: That given that the Minister of Public Safety’s unelected Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee will shape the future of firearm regulation in our country, its members must adequately understand and represent the very people affected by its recommendations, being Canada’s shooting community. Therefore, your petitioners, call upon the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to require individuals appointed to the Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee to have earned their Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), without which they lack a baseline understanding of the activities they are tasked with regulating.

so is Moleman, they occasionally sign out some FA and other Prohibited shit from lockup to go have fun inna woods and take pictures for their honeypot operation on /k/. sad really, as they seem like nice guys, but an easy firearms charge against some autistic dupe from /k/ is just too tempting, much simpler and safer with a bigger reward than going after actual dangerous criminals, looks well on their record and hey, they gotta earn their stripes somehow.

there is a reason CTG has a gen3 G17 but no polymer80 lower as one would expect a supposed law breaking gun nut to have "as insurance" for it. a reason him and Moleman have all these multi-thousand dollar Prohibs and even supposed FAs but neither have done so much as complete an 80% AR lower "just in case" as again you would expect from such careless law breaking gun lovers might do -- the reason is two-fold: all those Prohobs are loners from the collection of confiscated shit and cost them nothing, while 80% shit for their fishing expedition on /k/ will not get budget approval, AND completing 80% firearm would push them into "officers of the law breaking the law themselves" territory, so that's why the first and easiest law breaking thing you would expect them to do isn't the one they are doing. no no, there are apparently all these magical oldfags with all these prohibs and Moleman with his plywood floors can afford dozens of them, while apparently some local gun shop is such tight friends with CTG, they are willing to order some grey area shit for him on the down lo. first it was just CTG with all the prohibs, now he got some for Moleman, who knows, maybe YOU can be his next close friend too! Yay!

like I said, you'd have to be an autist from /k/ to buy this crap.
>PS: 80% shit is also a ticking trap, very soon that little party will come to an end and if you are on one of the whole two dealers' books that sell them in the entire country, recorded as having bought one, expect a visit from CTG and Co

Is there any chance of norc ARs dropping in price? I kinda want one of their M16A1 style rifles so I can try to dress it up like a nam style m16a1, but I don't want to spend the same price I spent on my M&P15.

>>34023465
You're a retard.
>Polymer80 lowers
I don't like them. They lack the steel reinforcements of a real Glock frame. Besides, I already got my fingers on a paperless 1911. I don't really need an 80% frame. Though I do plan on getting a pair of AR lowers to complete to match my retro ARs as close as possible, then submit the complete 80% for "destruction" to effectively remove my ARs from the registry.

Also, why would I purchase an 80% lower when haven't even bought my ARs back yet?
>MM has "dozens" of Prohibs
He has one, the full-fun Valmet.
>If you order 80% lowers, expect le RCMP to come fist you to death
I wouldn't expect that, but you will be on some sort of list if you don't order it correctly.
>You could be CTG's friend too!

NEA102 comes out NR. Until first hunting season it's around for. Then some hunter gets seen with one on some trail and then cries to the police about the big scary ak15 they saw.
>>
>>34025392
>>34025423
except NEA 102 is in .308, not 5.56
go ahead and find an AR-10 for $700 (the fact that NEA is also NR notwithstanding)

>>34024931
they are already exporting them and by all accounts and hints the FRT is just a formality being dragged out at this point, so probably fairly soon.
https://youtu.be/HlxVPBmQTMc

if they're smart, they wouldn't be telling everyone the moment they got the green light, instead they would want to build up stock, so they can open the floodgates and start raking in the cash while riding the hype of the new NR from the day of announcement -- people's excitement and attention tend to taper off if you announce something as available and then they have to wait to buy it for months. CGNers in particular have the patience of a monkey on pcp.

back in october I had an approval within 2 days for my mk18, that was magical.

some dealer on cgn posted that in april, 2/3 the the approval/transfer position people for ontario were on vacation and so that created a huge back log. that plus lets guess a 500+ surge over the last two weeks from all these M&Ps, they're really understaffed for the amount of transfers they have to go through.

at least we don't need fucking memberships.

>mk18
ju som kinda puta el mucho dinero, ay?

4realzies tho, isn't the 10.5" 5.56 AR a meme? keep seeing videos about how 5.56 basically turns into a .22lr if it travels below 2600fps, which an sbr pretty much guarantees
>implying you will give me a straight answer after investing into a Mk18
>>
>>34027384
the whole terminal ballistics argument is a meme in and of itself. evening using regular xm193 and xm855 you can get results that disagree with everything the internet says, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N___BbutjD0

you can still attain completely reliable fragmentation out of a short barrel with ammo that's just designed to be able to fragment at lower velocity, like mk262. but that shit is expensive (>$1.50/round) and I probably won't get into reloading for another year or two.

main appeal is that it's super fucking light and small and manoeuvrable and a fun range toy since none of the ranges around me have anything past 200yds. might get an inferiority complex if I ever have to shoot further than that. perfect shtf/wrol/rwds gat too t b h.
>>
>>34027524
that's the thing, roided muhreenz on youtub keep telling me this shit, but logic dictates that while shorter barrel will definitely affect accuracy, it really shouldn't affect tumbling, since: the shorter the barrel the less stable the bullet and therefore the faster it'll tumble on impact

I think some will claim that reliable fragmentation requires certain minimum velocity still, but it seems that if the bullet tumbles, it is already likely to fragment, I mean it's not 3000fps but it isn't going at 20km per hour either, and as the video shows, even if it's not as effective as 20" barrel, it isn't like the effect disappears, just deminished marginally, but not to the point where it would practically matter -- which is why high speed low drag dudes who actually operate operationally keep using them. I mean, if it didn't work, they wouldn't fucking do it, would they?

Look at 7.62 AKs, M43 ball has shit tier wounding capabilities but that round and the AK is regarded by morons to have "muh stopping powa"

>Will definitely affect accuracy
What did he mean by this
>It shouldn't affect tumbling
Fragmenting ball may yaw at any velocity, but it needs to yaw at high velocity to explode into bits.
>The less stable the bullet
No.
>If the bullet tumbles it is more likely to fragment
No.
>>
>>34027938
well, according to people who claim to know ballistics, if you have a tiny bullet, it needs to be fast, to dump that energy into the target. 7.62x39 doesn't rely on speed as much as on size. if you got a bigger bullet, it can move slower, it'll still make a big ass hole and part of the energy it's dumping is being delivered by its own mass, not necessarily speed. whereas, you take a little .223 projectile and toss it at 7.62x39 speed, and it's basically a light bullet traveling slow, so it becomes more of a competitor to a .22lr than to the AK round.
>>
>>34027993
shorter barrel doesn't stabilize the bullet as well as longer barrel, it also doesn't impart the same initial velocity, this affects accuracy. what is unclear about this?

you are right, but the question is, what is exactly constitutes this "high velocity". plenty of test show standard 855 and 193 fragmenting out of 7.5" barrels.
>>
>>34028092
Barrel length doesn't affect accuracy, except with bullet drop, which is minor at combat distances.
