BFPU sets look better than brand new sets IMO (not completely fucked, but some wear), but worst case scenario you can buy a set and refinish them yourself. It's p. easy to refinish stuff.

AK's look weird brand new to me. Wood ones at least. Plum ones look great new.

Start reading sources of information about what you're looking at.
You want rare mags?
How rare, and how much are you willing to spend?
Since you have an IO, I'll assume poorfag.

Look into something like 40 round Molot steelies.
Not super rare, but less than common.
Circle 10 has some for less than $30, and I've seen them go for $70+ on the Files.

Not my area, and those are 7.62x39 mags.
But you should be able to turn up some decently priced 74 mags if you hunt around.
Fortunately or unfortunately, there aren't near as many varieties of 74 mags.

The rarer ones are very pricey though, so if you get into that realm, I hope you like ramen.

750 is current market value it seems. Price it a bit lower if you wanna make a quicker sale. Without that ugly pistol grip/buttstock combo, it is a sporterized russian manufacted ak.

On the other hand, you could pay a decent gunsmith to convert the rear end and sell it for a bit more.

The barrel from my prospective kit is from a bulgarian kit that the seller's friend parted out. So although the pics are shit, he's got the benefit of the doubt until I see it in person.

Who is the go-to guy for autistic krinkov builds?
>>
>>33981716
Anybody really, get the 74uLLC receiver and all you have to make sure from there is that the builder presses the rivets right (some round head, some flat) and doesn't mess with the original paint wherever possible.

If it really is from a Bulgarian kit then it's real. Either that or somebody is lying. Those barrels go for like $700+ loose. Did I mention, fuck you?
>>
>>33981779
Thanks, I'll have my local go-to guy build it then. I've never believed the 74ullc hype, but I don't want to regret my reciever choice. The fact I am overthinking it already says I probably will.

He says he paid 700 for the barrel, which is why he doesn't want to seperate it from the kit. I'll bring my kvar cut barrel to compare before cash leaves my pocket, just in case.
Fuck you too.
>>
>>33981901
You've had work done from him before? Just make sure he knows how to press the rivets well, and specify which ones need to be flat headed. And make sure he doesn't do anything like sandblast the completed build and repaint the whole thing. The serial numbers on the safety and dust cover are just scratched on. They would be gone forever if they were sandblasted or painted over.

Reasons why you should buy the hype:
>oval shaped depression where safety goes
>small circular depression (or lack thereof) on left side where safety sticks through
>receiver rails, do they roll down
>shape of ejector and reinforcement rib/lack of
>spot weld count and location
>shape of trigger axis pin bumps/lack of
>shape of dimples
>magwell pattern
>pg reinforcement plate/lack of
>shape and placement of selector notches
>selector markings that actually look stamped instead of engraved (not sure but they may just be etched, which is a close second best)
>shape of Y/I stamps
Every imaginable detail is accounted for and painstakingly replicated
>>
>>33982162
He did a great job on my 11,xxx serial STG58. I'm having him deban the fsb and gb on my maadi friday with egyptian parts, so I will consider that his test run on how well he can save the paint/ not fuck up on the maadi. I'll go from there.

I will do some research and compile a list of particulars for him with pictures, just in case.

Thanks for making the case for the reciever. I'll be sure to put you down as a reference so you get your cut. What is it now, 20%?

Fuck, I just remembered that my '83 kit has scratched in partial serials on removable items (gas tube retainer, selector, dust cover).

When builders refinish the gun, they usually remove those, right?

...right?
>>
>>33985336
They're the single most commonly available year for Russian ex-military AK-74 kits right now. 1983 kits are significantly less common but would be considered the second most common Russian '74 kit.

Lol no.

>>33985410
Oh, I was considering one but if they're common I don't want one.
>>
On the topic of 1988 AK-74s, why are there so many unissued kits of them? Why did the Soviets make so many just to never issue them?

When they adopted the AK-74M, what did they do with all of their previous AK-74s and AKS-74s? Put them into storage and eventually sell them as surplus/parts? That would explain unissued 1988 kits.

>>33985671
>Why did the Soviets make so many just to never issue them?

I meant remove the parts from the barreled receiver before refinishing. I can't imagine why they'd keep removable parts on the gun when they finish it, but now I'm paranoid about it again.

>>

Actually, let me add a bit to that. The model I bought was from eBay. Listed under the brand Azura Dynamics or some shit like that.
>>
>>33986263
I've been seeing a number of 1PN58s pop up in the $500-600 range lately. That's the main reason I'm currently holding off; there's a chance they could go down a bit.

That, and I'd like to actually have the gun back from the builder before I go to town and top it off.
>>
>>33986317
There's always 34s at half the price too. How long till it's estimated to be back?
>>

I know there's 34s, but the 58 is going to be a lot more durable. If memory serves it uses an LED for illumination instead of a standard bulb, and it's significantly lighter and crisper too. If I'm going to throw $500+ away on obscure Soviet night vision optics, I want them to work.

As for the wait, Meridian told me another month last week. I want to strangle whoever sent him a bunch of fucking Yugos in late September/early October last year, because apparently those kits are very issue-prone and are part of what's making this take so long.
>>
>>33986344
>a bunch of yugos
Kek

And the 34s are basically gen1 while 58s are gen2 AFAIK, which would explain the major differences. Could be wrong and it's gen 0 and gen 1 tho. Don't remember which
>>
>>33986355
Yeah, 1PN34 is Soviet Gen 1, 1PN58 is Soviet Gen 2. 1PN51 is also Soviet Gen 2, but it wouldn't be period correct since it hit in the late '80s I think.

David Fillers is a grade A cunt and their US builds are of questionable quality. Their kit builds are great, but once they started pumping out US made rifles they started dropping in quality and having problems.

>>33987141
Russian triangle folders are easier to come by, now that Arsenal stopped producing triangle folder SLRs a while back they've become kind of scarce without a steady flow of them coming into the US on rifles. I'm not aware of any rifles of /akg/ with Bulgarian triangle folders, everyone has either cheaper Izzy triangle folders or more expensive Tula ribbed triangle folders.

Ah ok. I've come close to buying a Tula triangle a couple of times but can't get myself to do it when I've already got a ribbed triangle and $100 on a triangle stock that I don't really care for feels like a waste. I mean if I had a krink then yeah I'd want a proper Tula stock but I don't so the Bulgarian I've already got and a cheaper Izhmash triangle are good enough for me (I say as I spend money on variations of the same muzzle brake ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

74u is an SBR, nobody makes those for general production because of the paperwork associated with buying them. You either need to buy it in pieces (most of which would come from a parts kit whichis made by cutting up an old soviet assault rifle) and have those assembled OR by the long barreles variant made by arsenal, get your tax stamp and have the barrel cut down, recrowned, and rethreaded.

Is there a guide to painting bakelite?
I got an old bakelite pistol grip I want to paint blue for shits and giggles.
>>
>>33990605
Not really.
But I've painted bakelite, and it's held up pretty well so far.
I used mineral spirits to clean any oil or residue off, and then used polycarbonate specific paint.
If you want to still see the swirls of the bakelite, use a translucent paint.
For blue, I'd go with this

https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/paints-finishes-60/spray-ps-(polycarbonate)-61700/ps-38-translucent-blue-86038

Unless the grip is really dark, in which case I might go with the light blue

Any autist willing to answer an ignorant dumb-dumb's question? This might just be how I end up choosing which rifle to go with. Of the two rifles I am looking at, one of them has a hammer forged barrel. In both layman/practical terms, what is a hammer forged barrel? Does it do anything significantly better then a non-HF barrel?
>>
>>33990785
Hammer forged barrel means it was made by some factory worker beating it into shape with a hammer, it's old world technology and a non hammer forged barrel is more modern and generally a better barrel.

You taking me for a ride? Anyone else care to answer without over-simplifications and memes? I remember reading that those barrels are much bigger in diameter before they are "hammer forged" to condense the barrel and "align the molecular “grain” within the metal". Which makes me think that they'll last longer or somehow be more accurate because of "harmonics".
I don't know shit about barrels besides that chrome lined barrels last longer compared to non-chrome lined barrels.

DDI no longer exists, David fillers fired everyone Christmas week, and sold the company to PSA's parent company.

they own the name, there is no physical DDI existence, warranty for DDI branded guns is done by PSA.
