Thinking about picking up an AUG A3 with a TA33 up top as my go- to, do- everything patrol rifle. If I do I'll keep this AR but I'm not sure how I'll want it set up. SPR with a 2.5-10 optic, or ACOG? Trying to cut down on my collection and make it more versatile.

Yes. I'm trying to research between 5.56, 6.8, 300 meme. All have some drawbacks. 6.8 looks the most promising as the new stuff can really zip out of an 8.5 inch barrel, but the only premades I see are like 2k+ and there doesn't seem to be a huge support Community around building your own.

What works for one barrel doesn't work for all of them. I could tell you the general recommendations for 5.56x45/.233, but I can also tell you most of that goes out the window with regards to barrel and ammunition manufacturers.

I get about 2moa with Wolf Gold from a Larue Stealth Barrel

FGMM 77gr SMK .223 is about 1
Black Hills Mk262 is about 1

Had various other things over the years do better, others far worse even marketed as Match ammo

Couldn't tell you general recommendations but my buddy's .300Blk SBR 8" barrel does about 2" with American Eagle supersonic

Gemtech subs at 50 yards typically around .75"

I have a very, very, very stupid question, and if you guys don't want to explain it to me, that's fine.

I work a relatively low-income (but not minimum wage) warehouse job, and pay rent on an apartment that costs too much for its accomodations and is only decent for its woodside view. I'm looking to get an entry-level AR, and it seems like the most practical way to do it is to buy the parts individually and assemble it myself, because ARs are essentially magic that way.

My question is, besides an "upper" and a "lower" what parts do I need? I'm a dumbass whose only other rifles are milsurp 7.62x39 and a .22lr plinker, so I don't actually know what those bits include and what I'd still need to purchase.

Please show me the way.

Thinking about building an AR with a 20 inch barrel as my first rifle and it seems just buying a complete upper and lower is more cost effective than buying a complete rifle.

Any recommendations on uppers and lower? Was looking at a BCM upper and an Anderson lower.
