Depends, can you inspect the C93 for canted sights, and put a few rounds through it?
C93s should be considered workable parts kits in general, but they were made with german parts kits so if it happens to be one of the proper builds you are going to want it, especially considering HK trigger pack options and the next 8 years.
>>
>>33383076
>for a C93 Sporter?
I think the c93 is one of the cooler looking rifles out there. I love that german look.
I probably would personally, then turn around at some later date and get a proper 545 gun like an slr-104/5/7 or something.

>>33383076
I personally wouldn't unless you're willing to potentially send it off to get it properly rebuilt as C93s are very hit or miss and willing to buy even more expensive magazines

I'd love an HK93 clone but they're just too much of a hassle with parts and mags in the US. Vector had an alright thing going with their clones until they went out of business. I really hope PTR comes out with an HK93 clone eventually as I would buy one in a heartbeat (if I actually had money and wasn't poor af rn)

I came up with two reasons why I should in my mind. It's a semi 5.56 and not an AR, therefor strange, and a 90s looking gun. Two things I like.

I came up with about 7 reasons why not to.

The stock is pinned open, bullet button still good to go on pre 2017 guns. New rifles you get in 2017 have to be sold from ffl's featureless with no bullet button. Theres still no way to register guns from 2016 so you can keep them as you bought them with bb but once 2018 hits you have to either register it as saltweapon or make featureless. This one will be featureless but I can keep it like this for the year of 2017

AKs require more engineering and proper heat treatment.
ARs are mostly aluminum and milspec parts that can be outsourced. Not many AR companies, or any tha I can think of actually make every part of the rifle. Most barrels come from a handful of companies, all the small pieces are made by other companies, all the small AR "builder" has to do is make recievers and then put parts together. That is if they're not just buying 80% lowers and putting parts together and selling for 200% profit.

A product like an AK isn't a single shop process, but a whole chain of process and infrastructure. A healthy flow of capital is another critical component, and one the AK in America is lacking. It's not that America can't build one, just every process would be largely custom ordered. There's a lot of intellectual property that died in this country along with our 1940s tech factories. Just rambling in bed hope that's something to chew on

AKs are sheet metal/milled steel. Sheet metal at that quantity and heat treatment need massive presses which requires a lot of space. Also these machines need an operator to oversee the process for QC, then assembly, riveting, QC, pressing, QC, etc.

ARs are machined aluminum which is much easier on the mill/cutters. When ARs were made by machinists you still had the QC process because there can be human operator error. Now days CNC machining is mainly dominant, you can buy a decent HAAS mill for 20-30K or a 5 axis for like 60K. Basically now you design the part, throw in a block of aluminum, run the mill and an hour later pops out a receiver.

Simply, AKs were well designed for technology 60 years ago that hasn't aged well that require a large set of institutional knowledge.

ARs were difficult to manufacture 50 years ago but the process for machining has become incredibly simple over time, reducing the cost and entry to market difficulty. My mom could CNC a receiver now.

I just yanked my Pyramid WASR's selector switch out to clean the rust I could see on the bottom of it through the receiver keyhole. Receiver looks fine, but the axis of the selector was rusted and the more I took off, the more I noticed rust under the shitty Maadi paint. Got most of it off now though.

That said, is it normal for the selector to need to swing down and then back up to remove instead of just coming straight up and out with the FCG still installed?

I think you can even mount it in the gap in between the upper and lower hanguard if you don't want to drill the 2 holes to mount it.

I've got one on my AR. I love it and plan to get one for my Scorpion as well. It's much simpler than the VTAC sling people like to compare it to, and cheaper than the HSP D3 sling that is mostly the same config.

They make an AK-specific version that uses BFG's universal wire loop to mount to the front sling loop on an AK, so that's the route I'd suggest going.

If I want to zero my 5.45 at 50m, could I put the rear sight at 2 since the POI would be roughly the same at 50/200m?
>>
>>33389339
Mine is very smooth, doesn't hold up the bolt carrier at all.

Pull is comparable to the G2, maybe a tiny bit shorter.

More diverse than mine tho 2bh (only new mags since this was taken was a few more true blacks, one more plum, and one more ribbed molot 45 rounder)

Gotta get a plum one but I like the looks of the black ones a lot too

Ok, /akg/, I want a basic underfolding AK. Where should I start looking brand wise/what would you personally recommend?

Have a battle buddyto boil your oysters
>>
>>33391602
Yugo underfolder will be the easiest one to find, should run you about 600 or so
>>
>>33391231
If you can get the OAL to fit, I do think see why not, shouldn't be any worse than using a suppressor on standard ammo in terms of overgassing.
>>
>>33391616

>>
>>33391654
I can probably mod a 10 round mag for muh durrkiller specials but are there any mods besides maybe a Yugoslavia gasblovk to make it singleshot I can use to make it not be as rough?

Are there adjustable gasblocks for AKs that aren't incredibly expensive?
>>
>>33391831
Wolff extra power recoil spring should help, they make them stiffer than stock so you can tame high recoil impulse on overgassed rifles.
>>
>>33392077
Thanks, maybe I'll put a rubber buffer pad in the back too. Really excited to go hunting with this, I'd never admit it but I like how short mags look, banana mags look goofy.
>>
>>33392368
Don't use a buffer. It's not needed and will only fall apart and make a mess in your rifle.
>>
>>33392412
Worst comes to worst I get to use my air compressor. My worry is that it might cause jams.
>>
>>33392433
An unnecessary rubber buffer falling apart in your rifle will increase the odds of malfunctions. It's an AK, it has a violent action that's built to handle the abuse.
>>
>>33392460
I meant more of it short stroking, the action is violent but I'm not into rough housing with my guns if I can avoid it. Besides the abuse I already put them through but this is for science.
>>
>>33392493
If you're worried about short stroking then don't add a piece of material that'll decrease the distance of your BCG.
>>
>>33392511
I know but I'm more worried about the bolt peening things about than clearing jams if they even happen.
>>
>>33392368

No problem. I've been thinking of some heavy loads to use in my AK's too, I have an AK-Builder 9" pistol build in particular that I think could benefit from heavier grain cast loads since it doesn't have as much barrel to build enough velocity for hunting type ammo, most of which is borderline for expansion in the AK as it is.

Do not use a recoil buffer.

Some reading on heavier grain 7.62-

I'm not so sure I would want to do it with anything heavier than 170gr unless you go to a cast bullet-

Out of all aftermarket stocks an ak could have, fagpul is a very minor offender. I think it looks decent.

This. I'd rather see a Magpulfucked AK than a Tapcofucked one.

Magpul actually isn't that bad. Looks are subjective, and I understand the purist standpoint but their handguards and grips are comfy and don't look that bad at all. Had a Zhukov hg on my WASR. I liked the looks but it had two major problems: the aluminum clamps on the steel barrel does cause a noticeable loss in accuracy, and it adds significant weight to the front. Add in the fact that you have to lop off a part of the rifle that's a motherfucker to have reinstalled and it's plain to see why that hg is one to stay away from. I wouldn't use their stocks unless the Zhukov went to a fixed stock model. Magpul AK grip is their best product and is comfy. I regret selling mine and may get another one for my SAR which I don't care about as much to be autistically "correct"
>>
>>33382368
if thats a polytech and all you want is a regular bayonet, buy a different ak. Or you could sell it to someone who appreciates spikers and buy 3 good aks with it.
