Going for my first turkey hunt in April with by Benelli Supernova. I'm excited. Been deliberating on my first hunting rifle in anticipation of deer season in the fall. So far, I've been leaning toward a stainless steel wood tikka t3x lite in a left handed configuration but have also been interested in the X-bolt. What would you guys recommend? Also what type of scope should I go for? Based on my research, I likely won't need anything for +300 yard shots.
>>
>>33324619
I've heard good things, and the Savage Scout is what I lust for too.
>>33324709
Honestly, for only ~300, you could use almost anything. Any modern rifle that fits your price range that you like the look of with some decent glass will do.
>>
I've been getting into funs, and I know there are a lot of legal workarounds to the round limit stuff. I know about the 'pistol' 10 round STANAGs for 5.56 and 7.62, and the 10 round AIA enfield mags for M1As, and I saw something about being able to cram more 9mm rounds into a .40 mag for a G17, but I'm not sure on that one. Can someone help aware me on some more of these?
>>
>>33324802

Yes. The magazine capacity is based on the round and firearm it is designed and manufactured for.

So you can stick ~13 9x19 rounds in a .40 S&W mag. DO NOT BEND THE FEED LIPS, though. That is considered "remanufacturing" and is prohibited.
>>
>>33324802
There's also 5 round .50 beowulf mags that work out to 14-15 rounds in an AR, but you covered most of them.

Magazine restrictions are such a minor inconvenience compared to all the other nonsense firearm laws/regulations. Capacity won't be the thing that spoils your fun.
>>
>>33324964
>>33324989
Almost gunz here, would you get in shit for taking these to a range? I dont want to be fumbling with loading mags as much as shooting.
>>
>>33325004
The AR exploits are pretty well known but I'd be cautionary with anything to do with handguns.

Once you see how expensive ammo is if you shoot regularly, you won't mind loading mags if it slows you down and keeps you occupied for a longer time.
>>
>>33325004

If someone gives you shit, pull out the law on your phone and show them. You're following the exact wording of the law.

Also worth noting: It's legal to load 10 rounds into an SKS by unlatching the magazine and just holding it in place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1bCy0ouLZI

There's also "ghost loading", also known as "floating" a round.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB0qs9agHPk
>>
>>33325083

What's the reasoning behind the SKS loophole? Seems kinda fucked to me.

>>
>>33326361

Most .40 S&W handguns were just modified 9x19 guns and the magazines have the same external dimensions.
>>

true enough, I'm just so used to only having 5 rounds in a rifle that I was getting tired with a full magazine. I kept wondering how much more is there left to shoot. I even counted out 5 shots and was ready to unloaded and reload the mag. Only to see the bolt closed, my brain was confused and was getting frustrated.

Did the same thing with pistols and it felt weird shooting 18 rounds out of a pistol.

Agreed. The carbon tax is just a money scheme that won't help environmentally, whereas the lead in the gasoline didn't help gasoline in any way and was just a way for lead producers to make money.

Plus the third party effect of leaded gasoline cannot be ignored. Glad they stopped that.

Another example would be if you purchased a .458 SOCOM magazine that had a follower designed for a single, fuckhueg round. You can still use 5.56x45 in it, but the bottom of the stack will be a bit wonky because of it. If you were to toss in the follower from a normal magazine, then it's no longer the magazine that was specifically designed and manufactured for .458 SOCOM.

GTA guy looking to get PAL/RPAL this spring/summer. I see a lot of stuff posted both ways about Silverdales. Some say it's overcrowded, and the RSOs are FUDD nazis, while others say it's the best range within reasonable driving distance of Toronto.

What's the truth?
>>
>>33334554
>RSOs are FUDD nazis
they just enforce the rules which happen to be pretty shit. my personal infractions/experience:
walking up to the range with magazine out and action open but barrel pointed down and not up? chewed out..
take your no mag/action open rifle from the rifle rack to your car so you can leave during a green "safe" flag? chewed out.

here's a map of some ranges, as it might not necessarily be the closest one:
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1P6j3Rx3A967DMQGfDi9p08BjMHs&hl=en_US&ll=43.74096014168769%2C-79.30980426953124&z=9

it's great if you don't want to be a member of anything yet, though you can't shoot handguns as a non-member.
>>
>>33334554
It depends on the range. The larger the range the more likely things will go tits up. They have to cover their ass in terms of liabilities.

Remember this, it is their house and therefore its their rules. You may not like it, but if they don't stick to the rules it can result in the range being shut down and then people don't have that range.

Setting up your own personal range is a hassle and very expensive. Being a member of a club you can help change or otherwise improve upon the club with enough people.
>>
Its been a while since I checked back on it, but was looking to hear what the rest of you thought about this.

I'm thinking of either picking up a:

Norinco M305 20" bbl @ $619

or a

CZ455 .22 @ 599.99

thoughts?
>>
>>33336141
It depends on what you want to do with it, and they're very different rifles, but the CZ455 will be much more precise out of the box. You'd have to put a fair bit into the M305 to make it precise.

Bolt CZ rimfires can be really accurate, like the guy at 0:50 in this video
https://youtu.be/GbHMV8G9EQk?t=52

If it was me, I'd go with the CZ, but if you wanted something that could chooch out 7.62 NATO then go for the m305
>>
>>33336258
I currently have a M305, but was tempted in getting another one. As the one I currently have was having some issues. Mostly trying to transfer from a wood stock to a synthetic stock. May have to take it to a gunsmith or find some replacement parts. The stock liner won't fit in the synthetic stock I have for some reason.

Sucks really.

It'll be the CZ 455 then, been wanting to get a solid bolt action .22 lately.
>>
>>33334843
Is East Elgin any better? It would mean an extra 40 minutes each way, but if it's a better place overall I would just use the extra travel time to listen to audiobooks or something.

>>33336010
Depends on the range as in the individual ranges within Silverdale? I'd probably spend my time exclusively at the longer range rifle benches, how are they?

I understand they it's their business and they can run it as they see fit. I also understand that they get crowded as fuck and are worried about liability. That's why I'm asking on a mongolian long distance trucking forum for people's experiences there to guide my decision, rather than going there and bitching about the way things are and expecting them to change to suit my tastes.

I just know I wouldn't want to go to a place where RSOs are constantly breathing down your neck. I'd rather pay/travel more to a place where their members are treated like adults. If someone is doing something unsafe that threatens my safety, I'll say something. If they don't rectify it, I'll leave and report it to the club.
>>

kek, thats a new one

I've been there once, and they can be strict on you, but I've seen worse.

Outside of biting the bullet and experiencing Silverdale for yourself (sucks that you're in Toronto or in the GTA area) you'll need to look at what gun clubs are out there and what they offer and apply for a membership.

Outside of Silverdale, give the Sharon Gun Club a look. It has a few long ranges for rifle bench shooting.

I'm currently at the NPRC gun club east of Toronto. No long range shooting here unfortunately. The most we have is a 40 yard rifle range. Which was to appease people who want to shoot their rifles for some fun.

Range options aren't the greatest and you'll have to do plenty of traveling in your current situation. Give Silverdale a try, if you like it you can give it another go. Just be safe and have fun.
>>
>>33336473

isn't the share you have to buy like $1000+ ?

But, the upsides of only a 20 min drive to downtown, walking distance to a subway stop, and the fact Chinese buyers inflating Toronto prices means my shitty bungalow is now worth 900k and will prob. go over a mil if the prices keep increasing makes up for having to make some form of sacrifice to shoot funs.

According to the firearm act, they also specify that it has to be for a firearm "commonly owned in Canada". If you guessed that there was no definition written for that, then you guessed right. But the point is that you can't just make a magazine for a firearm that doesn't exist.

If you're interested in starting to manufacture magazines, then I'd be behind you 100%, as long as it is kept above-board, of course. Are you more interested in polymer or sheet metal?

Insulting the mental faculties of someone else like that for no reason sure is a nice example of interpersonal skills, the lack thereof being one of the indicators of a neuroatypical individual. Good thing that's not the case at all for you, otherwise it would come off as you projecting your insecurities onto others or simply repeating the same insults you had been subject to your entire life.

>>
>>33338879
I honestly think the distortion is caused by a combination of people expecting to bargain down, and the fact that many provinces have huge sales taxes.

I live in Alberta, the only time I would consider a used (excluding surplus) gun purchase is if it's in person. Online prices are always significantly more because of the national market. If I buy x gun for $1000, I pay 5% gst, so total cost $1050. If I buy it in say Quebec, I'm paying 15% for $1150 total. Guns don't really depreciate all that much, a 10% price difference is pretty significant especially when you consider that half the time (at least from my perspective and the people around me) people don't really consider the tax as much.

So person A buys his $1000 rifle in Quebec for $1150 after tax, uses it for a season and decides to dump it. He decides to list it for $1000, which is 87% of his purchase price which is fair as a starting point. Now I am looking for said $1000 rifle, and see his ad and don't even bother with it because it's list price is $1000. Even though I will end up paying $1050 overall at say Cabelas, I conveniently forget this fact because 5% is relatively small in my mind and I often don't take it into account (there's a term for the phenomena of forgetting about a small percentage of a large purchase but I can't think of it right now).

From my initial view of his ad, I see him advertising a used rifle at brand new price which indicates an unrealistic expectation of it's value and a low likelihood of an agreeable deal being made. I would expect the generic rifle to be listed closer to $900 (90% of my perceived purchase cost). From his perspective his advertised price is fair, but from mine it's outrageous.

This has led to a strange occurrence where, in my experience, gun shows and local advertisements can actually be significantly cheaper than online private party sales because it's less likely to involve the national market. Sorry for the text wall

yeah, NAAAAH

just buy a glock 17 or 19 for under $800 and a surplus VZ folder for like $60-$80, get a trs-25 red dot dot $100-$120, get some sturdy gorilla glue, shove the red dot up you ass, push it in deeper by shoving the folder stock up your ass after it, glue your asshole tightly around this tactical assembly, then go to the range and shoot your glock

If you have a prohib license (read that as "If you don't already have one then you're SOL") it's easy.
>>
>>33341479
Sounds like our guys did their job by refusing entry to criminal scum
>>
>>33345786
However, you can not obtain a prohib licence unless you were grandfathered in in the 90's, so a very small number of people can even own this.
>>
>>33346806
I dont like the prohob meme, they should have done requirements, be born canadian, commited zero crimes no matter how small it is, not be on any watch list and have a extreme safe to keep it in.

.45 ACP performs a lot better when loaded to subsonic speeds, is much lower pressure (brass lasts longer), is more comfortable to shoot and the main advantage 9x19 has over .45 ACP is irrelevant in Canada.
>>
>>33348073
The whole >Not an argument meme is specifically about using logical fallacies instead of logical arguments. The fact that you fail to understand that really reinforces that you're just repeating shit that people have said to you in an attempt to distract from your inadequacies.
>>
>>33348080
>better subsonic
except 147 grain 9mm performs very well at subsonic velocities
>more comfortable to shoot
also less controllable
>less capacity makes it pointless in Canada
except that 9mm can make a .7 inch hole 15+ inches deep with less recoil than a .45 that leaves a 1 inch hole. I'll take far greater chances to hit what I'm aiming at multiple times over .3 inches of extra bullet.
>>
>>33348283

Who do you think Non-Conservatives are going to vote for?

Bear in mind that most of them don't care about guns, and only care about ensuring O'Leary doesn't win.

Also, I find it amazing that they're willing to join the CPC just to make this one vote. Regardless of who wins, they're still giving money to their enemy.
>>
>>33348736
Maxime Bernier wants to legalise weed and wants provinces to have more control over their own affairs. That'll play well from Vancouver to St John's.

It really depends. There's always the hardcore people that vote NDP, Liberal or whatever their entire life. But a lot of centrists/mainstream liberals have lost faith in Trudeau's Liberal Party and definitely won't support the NDP if they elect someone like Niki Ashton. I think with someone like Bernier that is more of a Libertarian, there is a really good chance the Conservatives with gain a lot of new supporters.

so I own some rifles and like them but I wanna buy a handgun next.

I wanna get a Sig Sauer 1911 , it shoots .22 which interested me at first for a starter gun. My friend says I should pay more and just get a Sig Sauer P250 that shoots 9mm. thoughts?
>>
>>33349648
.22LR is notorious for not feeding properly in anything that isn't a manual-action longarm. It's cheap for a reason.

That said, I would definitely recommend a 9mm, which is the next cheapest popular round.

Get a Sig, but not a P250.

yes do that, 22 pistols generally suck dick. they generally need hotter 22 rounds to work and still jam a lot because 22 in general is a shit cartridge. if you really want to go 22 you can get a conversion kit afterwards, but 9mm is an amazing cartridge to start off with.

Yeah it is discriminatory but good luck finding any judge in this land to side with gun owners. Even then, the government would just argue that it is covered by the notwithstanding clause. The government is allowed to nullify charter rights whenever they want. Because fuck you, you don't actually have rights in Canada.

>Who do you think Non-Conservatives are going to vote for?
If Trudeau doesn't step down and put a different Liberal as the leader I'd imagine a lot of his previous voters might go NDP or even look at Conservative this time around.
I know a lot of Liberals who are furious that he's broken more than one of his major campaign promises and have said they will never vote for him again.
>>
>>33350161
I think that in the US and Canadian elections, the incumbent party should be forced to run two different candidates. One being the incumbent candidate, running for re-election, and one new candidate of the same party.

That way, the people have more options.
>>
>>33350311
pretty dumb idea. that would never happen. nobody in power would agree to having their votes potentially split in half in a federal election.
