How many mags should I have and how do the clear ones hold up? I always wanted one for my glock but didn't really see the point when the magazine wasn't exposed.

>>33246758
ETS mags seem extremely durable but they're not as slippery as PMags. So while ETS mags (being engineered correctly and to correct specifications) will drop free, they will sometimes hold onto rounds too tightly, causing failures to feed in my case. IMO Lancer is where it's at for clear cool looking clips, and USGI for actual use.

>>33246904
Getting into optics can be kind of daunting when you very first start shopping and trying to feel things out. I'm kinda glad I picked up an inexpensive PA to start off with, because now I have a much better idea of what I want and expect out of an optic for the money. Plus, I got to practice with one sooner, so I'd argue that there is at least some merit to wanting an entry level optic first. I'm glad I tried a low power variable before just dropping more money on a 3-9 or a nicer fixed power optic.

Look at the price of the magazine in the photo.
That was following Sandy Hook, where the most dishonest retailers tried to price gouge panic-stricken gun owners before bans were introduced.
The bans never materialized, and CTD returned their prices back to """""normal""""". CTD has also been known to fabricate false "normal" prices so that the sale percentage is significantly higher than it should be, again trying to trick customers. They do it so often that they will sometimes make up a wrong number and end up with negative sales. Pic related.
I could go on, but suffice it to say CTD is the very worst online retailer, ethically speaking. You can image search "cheaper than dirt price" for dozens of examples of this. Don't give them business no matter what kind of deal you find in the future.
>>33246861
You mean to tell me you would stick with filthy gi spring and carbine buffer?!
LMAO'ing @ u pleb middyfag
buying springco red+h3 (or three tungsten weight from KAK ind.) and do function check with zero lube+fully loaded usgi with weak tula that have been sitting in freezer. reload mag to full 30 round for few shots then few time with empty mag checking if it lock back. If it recoil with some authority it's perfect. if recoil feel too weak and sissy then its too close to failing then step down to h2 weight by taking apart the buffer and switch weight with carbine buffer you already have to make h2.
enjoy your duty ready rifle that will last 10k+ with gas ring replaced timely at 3k(this is early from failure point by at least 1k for carbine gassed) even then it is less sensitive to failure from worn gas ring like middy. bolt will last past 10k easy if its quality made 158cm hpt/mpi bolt.

Never had a BCM but am looking at getting one.
What exactly makes a "Recce"?
I always see the name mentioned in conjunction with BCM and I noticed this upper didn't say it anywhere:
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XBCMURG16BFHKMRA13
Help me to understand.
>>33247175
Recce has generally always been a marketing term. Before the KMRs BCM was marketing the recce rifles as lightweight, relatively accurate mid-length guns with 14.5" (recce 14) or 16" (recce 16) barrels.
This upper was considered a recce 14.
Don't put much weight behind the word recce from anyone though, it means nothing.
In the most basic sense a recce rifle is just one intended to be relatively light rifles useful from close quarters ranges out to about 500 with reliable accuracy. That generally has as much to do with the optic and the rifle's intended use as it does with the exact profile of the barrel or the others components used.
>>33247006
Potato, potato.
>>33247208
Ok I think I've talked to you about BCM stuff about a week ago. Thanks for the answer.
Does that upper I linked look alright, anything I'm missing? I really wanted a 14.5" but those are 20% off and free shipping right now...
>>33247225
Looks like a damn good 16" upper to me. Some folks dislike the KMR-A, but I would not hesitate to use one.
>>33247254
Trying to decide if I should get that upper or the one with no handguard and use a 15" Geissele for a little more dosh...I had one of the old Geissele rails with the proprietary mounting system and it felt terrific but I got it for dirt.
And I really don't like keymod...
BCM's triggers are supposed to be "improved" right? Or is that only some of them. Similar to an ALG ACT?

>>33247292

I mean they are "improved" over basic bitch, gritty mil triggers from my experience, but they are nothing to write home about. Similar to the ACTs I've felt, which is to say a standard trigger that a competent bubba could match the quality of by going over it and smoothing everything out.
As far the rail dilemma...no sense in spending the money on the KMR-A if you're not going to be happy with it. The advantage of their rails is just how light and small they are, nothing much beyond that.

Illegal enough that the potential consequences make the deed not worth the risk in any way shape or form.
So for my light I'm set on a SL ProTac Railmount 1L with a Gear Sector mount. Sling I'm probably going BFG padded, can't decide on black or brown though. Gonna sit on the muzzle device, don't see a reason to get something right now. Same with BUIS, I've got a fixed pair and don't like using them with the red dot so flip ups would never get used either. For magnified optics I'm kinda digging the SWFA SS 1-4x24 right now, I'm looking for something in the <$500 range.

>>33247665
>SWFA SS 1-4x24 right now
I have a gen 1 Viper PST 1-4 on another rifle right now and it's alright. Better glass than a friends' Steiner in the same price range. The Vipers are also dropping rapidly in price since the Gen 2's came out. Daylight washes out the illuminated reticle, but that seems to be a common thing among many similar scopes.
>>33247700

>>33247700
>I'm not paying $200+ for a light when the streamlight will do the same job for $100
Geissele rail, Geissele FCG, chinkshit alternatives to quality optics and lights because of a $100 difference?
>>33247429
It's fine. Like another dude said, you'll wear some stuff out faster but it's nothing to really worry about. If your really worried, you could try an adjustable gas block to lower the amount of gas sent. Some people like a little over gassing for ammo that has weaker powder.

I'll admit the rail was a quite the expenditure for me, I liked it too much to not get it.

Here's my next question. I live about 2 hours away from AIM but technically another state. Will they let me come pick it up, the lower is a long-arm, correct?
>>33247817
>surefire x400g being $400 while tlr-2g is $230?
That's fucking dumb you should be using the X300 which is much more comparable and they can be found for as much if not less than the TLR-2
>>33247837
Depends...I believe the lower can still be sold as a pistol if it isn't sold as part of a rifle and the 4473 is filled out by the FFL as such.
No idea if AIM will do pickups or not, would have to ask them.
>>33247838
x400 and tlr2 are the ones with lasers
the x300's compatriot would be the tlr-1 which is $100-110, or roughly half of the x300
>>33247837
That lower is a rifle lower so you should be able to buy across state lines.
>>33247832
>>33247813
>>33247795
Take that back, the star is definitely the new one, especially looking at serial numbers. The first and third one in my pic were the earlier ones I guess.
Mine is a 6xxx serial so I know it wasn't among the originals.
>>33247837
You can't buy a lower out of state without having it transferred to your state. Only long guns can be purchased across state lines, a receiver without a barrel, even if it's configured with a stock, is an "Other Firearm."
>>33247817
>he wants lasers with his light
Oh wow carry on
>>33247851
>>33247860
I bought an upper too, can I have them snap the upper on the lower and sell it to me as a rifle, or I'm guessing they'd say that's some bullshit "manufacturing a new weapon", yeah?
>>33247817
That's fucking gay.
>>33247860
also this is a "rifle lower" - already has stock installed. Does that change anything?
>>33247860
Stripped sold as other, complete sold as rifle? Or is a complete lower sold as other and then suddenly becomes a rifle once you snap an upper on? What does that do to ar pistols?
>>33247875
Best way to find out is to fire an email off to AIM and see what they say. I'd lean towards the expectation of having to pick it up from your local FFL though.

ATF defines a rifle or long gun as having a barrel, so no matter what's attached to the lower, it's not a rifle without a (rifled) barrel.
>>33247867
That I don't know.
I would only guess (GUESS) that if they attached the upper to the lower, they would become the manufacturer and their ATF logbook would have to reflect that.

Jesus Christ that is retarded. I could pick it up in two hours, but instead I'll have to wait several days because of their technicality bullshit. What do they think I am, an adult with patience?
I'm also almost positive the ATF would classify them putting the lower on the upper a "new firearm manufacture"
>>33247887
Following that logic, you could buy a complete SR-15 or LMT defender or any other mfr that don't sell stripped lowers and turn them into pistols legally, which would overturn the "once a rifle alwats a rifle" that occurs once you attach a rifle stock
Disband ATF

Would arg general just strip it and send receiver to FFL and parts to buyer separately? Maybe just take KEK notastock off to expose the pistol buffer and hope FFL isnt a retarded fudd?

While impressive, I seriously doubt anybody here will even come close to pulling 30k+ rounds through their rifle in its lifetime. Their might be the 0.5% that will but a vast majority will not. Again though, impressive and a testament to BCM's barrel turning abilities.
>>33248501
>BCM's barrel turning abilities.
What? They're rebranded FN
It's impossible to find a lower parts kit that doesn't come with grip, fcg, takedown and rotation pins, and safety selector. I want to find this for a new build, but I'm going to be changing all of those things so why waste the money. That or I buy every individual sepertate part, detent, spring, fuck, etc
>>33248603
Of course it is, all that's left is barely a LPK. How much demand do you think there is for companies to create and stock a SKU of nothing but springs, detents, plungers, buffer stop and bolt catch?
>>33248447
BCM is fucking gay for not selling their rifles with the option of a low profile gas block.
>>33248565
Everyone assumes that because FN is one of the few companies capable of pushing out hammer forged barrels in bulk in the US still, but no one is certain. There are a handful of operations that could supply the amount of barrels a company like BCM needs.
Beyond that, not all barrels from the same mfg are equal. The same manufacturer can push out hammer forged barrels that vary pretty substantially in quality. The buyer stipulates the level of QA they require in their batches as well as any other specific needs. Those not making the cut get sold to lower bidders.
Your general point is absolutely right though, BCM is not making any of their own barrels.
>>33247475
