No, in America most colleges don't care what public school you went to. Maybe like super high level colleges (like Harvard or something) care but mostly it's irrelevant. We don't have entrance exams either, though we do have tests that some colleges use the scores of to decide whether to accept students or not. You don't even really need to take those tests though, I never bothered I just started at a community college and transferred to a mid-high level university after two years since I had good grades and some awards and stuff.

Being able to go to college in America is mostly limited by whether you have the money to afford it rather than whether you can pass a test to get in, tuition is ridiculously expensive.

Well grades do matter in a way since if you want to go to a nice university right after high school you need a good GPA.

But really they don't since you can just start at community college then transfer to a good University. People don't know that though because it's drilled into you in highschool that you really need good grades and to go to a proper university right after you finish, I think probably the universities have some influence in causing that sort of mentality since they want more students/customers.

So basically you don't need good grades in highschool but most people think you do so they still try to get them.

I imagine high school could come into play as well. Say you got accepted to a great university after high school but you chose CC the first two years. I assume they would take into account they consider you so-and-so college material.

とにかく、外国語使うときに使いこなせるときと無理なときの落差が激しいの
で、自分でそれをコントロールできないからイライラしてさ、なんなんだろうこれって感じで
調子がいい時は初めて見る知らない単語が出てきても会話を続けることができるのに
調子が悪い時は子供が使うような簡単な単語のオンパレードでも理解できなかったり
この落差が腹立ってくる
