Hey guys, I'm moving to Ukraine in March. I'll be going to either Lviv or Odesa, can't really choose which one. I'll be teaching english part time, plus I've got savings so money won't be that much of an issue, though I would like to live frugally.
Can you guys tell me about both cities so I can decide? I've read the wikipedia and wikitravel on both cities, so I'm looking for more insider information, what it's like living there, etc. Also, any rental websites where they don't treat you like a fucking tourist? I speak basic russian, hoping to learn some more once I get there.
Move to visit Kryvyi Rih so you can teach Lera. But be warned. It's a coal mining town and the air quality isn't always the best.
Dad lives in Odessa, wouldn't recommend moving there at all. The city square is nice but the majority of everything else is a total undeveloped shithole with drug addicts, hookers, and drunks walking around everywhere. Also now with the war the inflation is some of the highest in the world and family that recently visited say you have to be rich just to buy decent food now. Not sure why you would want to move there right now of all times.
> tfw you can't post anything beside a fucking frog ,because never travel outside of fucking east,or rent a house by internet.
A Russian would think Ukraine is "developed"
Yes the city center is beautiful but cmon you have to be retarded to think its developed. And no port city I've ever been was that bad. I saw nothing but alcoholic and strung out zombies. Ukraine is a total shithole and I'm half none Jew Ukrainian and been there plenty of times so don't act like anything I'm saying isn't true.
Don't listen to him, he's a Jew. Lying is a part of his "culture".
>not wanting to live in an undeveloped place filled with addicts is being soft
Says the Canadian to an Israeli? If you're so "hard" leave Canada, the softest cunt of all
It's not that it was old, it's that everything outside the center was shit and crumbling and I've been there 3 times since the late90's and each time was worse
Just like cleaning toilets is part of polish culture?
See proofs right there and a Ukrainian would know better then you
I know about the skyrocketing inflation and shit, but it's still really cheap, and like I said, I do have some savings.
Are the people friendly, welcoming to foreigners, etc? Will they be trying to rip me off all the time?
>I will never teach english in the ruins of ukraine
>Are the people friendly, welcoming to foreigners, etc? Will they be trying to rip me off all the time?
From my experience in Ukraine:
It depends on people greatly. I've met the nicest people there but also the biggest cunts that will fuck you without lube. When I was there (like 5 years ago) it was a big no-no to approach police even if you had a problem - they'd realize you're a foreigner and you won't get rid of them unless you'll pay them. Also some people didn't like me cause I'm a Pole but that's other story.
All of this was in Western Ukraine, I'd expect Eastern Ukraine (which Odessa is, if not geographically then mentally) to be worse.
What do you mean real eastern europe? I've lived in Hungary and Poland, I've travelled the balkans, and it was just fine. I'm a bit worried about the war, yeah, which is why I'm leaning more towards Lviv than Odesa, but still...
M8 it's not cheap and it's not safe. The cops there will also try to fuck you at every turn because they're desperate for money now and when you actually have a problem with one of the many bydlo there no one will help you.
Odesa is a tourist spot. Dont know how it is on international tourist, haven't been there since '86.
Lviv is pretty good. I'm from Kiev, never been to Lviv, but all my friends who've lived in both say Lviv is better.
Do you speak the language?
Lviv is much better than Odessa. Odessa is a working class shit town. Lviv is referred to as the unofficial Capitol of west Ukraine. There's no war or fighting in the west and is rather safe when thinking war wise. I'm going. Family lives outside Lviv.
Lviv is literally heaven and is ludicrously cheap. Go there. It is a beautiful city. I would live there in an instant if I could work via the internet. Also, the qts are off the scale.
Mate, we'll be neighbors, you can come and visit.
The main reason for my trip is to study russian. I could just go to russia, sure, but the visa process is a pain in the ass. In Ukraine, I can just do visa runs to Hungary, done.
Go to Kyrgyzstan to learn Russian. Very cheap.
Odessa and Lviv are not good places to study Russian. Lviv is Ukrainian-speaking and Odessa is expensive in relative terms. Go to Kharkiv in the East if you really want to study Russian in Ukraine.
Only the dumbest bottom shit of people can only bring and ethnicity into it, thanks for adding to the discussion. I'm not even Jewish by religion and only half Jewish and half Ukrainian like I said if you could read.
Isn't Odessa expensive? Or is that just for Ukrainians and foreign money is worth a lot right now? My family made it sound like everything there is super expensive right now worse then before.
butthurt pole with the same pic in every thread
Lviv will be cheaper by all measures, food, rent, public transit. But Odessa is in subtropic climate so it should be easier to adapt there.
dat gorgeous bbq... never forget
Are you of those retards thinking ukraine is paradise of white man filled with butifel nadyas ready to jump on your cock?
Well it's not, it's a fucking shithole with civil war going on
Yooooo I'm going to Lviv and Kiev in March.
For you I would recommend Lviv because it's a beautiful city and you'll be closer to Western Europe which means you can just take the bus and easily do weekend trips. Lviv also has somewhat of an international community.
Odessa reporting in.
If you want to study russian then visit Odessa. Lviv is mainly ukrainian speaking city. Lviv dwellers is generally more cultured, but Odessa arguably has more character. Odessa is definitely more multicultural in a good sense. Weather is better in Odessa. Odessa has some nice architecture but Lviv looks is more refined for my taste. People are friendly in general, but Odessa is much much more banterous and criminal. You will like it as a brit.
>haven't been there since '86
Surely nothing changed
I've been there 5 years ago and I wouldn't go there alone now 2bh.
What about those grenades smuggled from ATO that explode in random places from time to time? liveuamap is hardly a russian source of news.
If you're looking to improve your Russian, Odessa would probably be the better choice. I don't really know how good life is in either of those cities, considering we moved when I was really little.
Poland is Central Europe.
Don't get too drunk if you're travelling alone and have no one to carry you home.
You can't drink alcohol on streets here.
Don't try to speak Polish, it's cringe worthy.
Don't act stuck up.
You can be robbed and beaten, murder is unlikely. I think you can bear it if you are a man. Btw saw a foreigner with a really swollen and beat up multicolored face at bank just a week ago. He looked really sad, was trying to receive money from a friend but bank manager was a dumb blonde. She can't communicate with him just shooed him away. I bet he can tell nice story for you.
I gave him (You) already, why bother? Tie muncher is not even real politician, just one of clowns that tend to gather in our burning circus.
*piss, like all our people >>53199638
I overdramatized a bit. Looked him in the eyes to make sure he is not in despair, he was ok. That particular bank outlet just don't have money that he was trying to recieve. Besides I am not friendly enough to help people that are not in immediate danger.
right after the collaps.
jew family stole half our money, family heirlooms, expensive possessions, ditches us all and moved to isreal
they literally stole gold, soviet era stamps, and a few relics we had from ww2. my grampas medals, etc.
distant relatives moved to germany, and denmark
my parents thought it was a good idea to move to nye with the help of my dads close jew friend who left a year early, but they fucked us over hardcore and we ended up in chicago being poor as shit. had enough money for one months rent, and a week of food. spoke no english, had no help, no programs, no benefits, knew no one.
took us years to recover and make something of ourselfs
jews are the worst.
