>You drew everyday for a long time, longer than anyone else. Congratulations. You are the best.
>Update every day at: http://www.lavaflake.com/draw/
>The deadline for submissions is 00:00 GMT each day
>You should spend at least 30 minutes on each update
>Miss a day and you can make up for it the next day with a double post.
>Miss another day within a month and you're eliminated.
>Progress updates are ok but they will be policed like other submissions
Entry into the second challenge is open until Saturday at 00:00 GMT. People who join after then will be entered into the less awesome Last Artist Standing #3.
I'm not that crazy about a comment section, but it would be nice if we got a commendable blog/commentary section that you fill yourself. Like you know, a few words about the piece you drew, what was giving you trouble, what were you aiming for etc.
It was said last thread, "No", if you want critiques post in the goddamn drawthread, if you want to circlejerk go to deviantart.
Putting a description on each piece is different to letting people post comments on them, I can get behind letting the uploader append a short description on their pieces, if only to link to refs or whatever rather than having to stick them on the piece itself.
I agree totally, so far this shit works pretty well, some "big" changes would definitely ruin the whole tranquility that it now has.
You should be very careful about the expansion of the site.
i spent the night reworking the site infrastructure so it's now caught up with web2.0 standards and it's possible to start implementing the good features. i also trimmed away 95% of the junk template files and restructured the file system which means I won't have to worry about growing pains in the future.
with that said, before I start implementing all the cool new features i need to get the report system up and running as well as the moderation tools to support it. for example anything to do with changing/updating submissions from behind the scenes involves manual changes in the database, saving the image file then resizing it in photoshop and FTPing it to the server. it's one of those things where spending a couple hours now to make these tools will save me hours every week.
It's been pretty back and forth on whether there should be comments and if there are then how they should be handled. same goes with being able to title/describe submissions. will the descriptions be informative or used to make excuses/another place to link to their patreon (please support my loomis studies)
Yeah changes will be slow regardless of what happens since it's a part time solo project. The main focus of the site will always be to encourage and reward participation. People want more and someday there will be more but it'll come slowly
Who here /fit/?
>tfw struggling to git gud on both boards
I like this idea a lot. Even better if you can't see who left the comment. Identities and publicity are what creates drama and circlejerking, so with both of those aspects removed people would have no reason to comment unless they had something constructive to say, or genuinely like the piece enough to tell the artist.
comments in either case, anonymous or not, will create drama, especially if people start shitting on someone over and over again
it's pointless if we can talk in these threads about it instead
Good point, I didn't think of the possibility of one person shitposting on all of someone's submissions even without community encouragement. I guess if someone really wants critique, they can post their name here and just ask.
But the draw thread is slow.. These threads blaze by and we're all commonly motivated.
I think it wouldn't be bad to cultivate our own critique environment. As long as we can keep the circle jerking to a minimum, we can make this community even better than what we have right now.
I think one type of critique that is possible with this as opposed to the draw thread is more of an "overall critique", since we are posting work we are doing everyday, it's easier to point out consistent mistakes as opposed something that went wrong with a singular image.
>mfw the snow takes out my power and I get eliminated tomorrow
I don't get why not having a messaging system, public or otherwise, is such a bad thing. It's not like people can't talk shit or compliment people on these threads. If anything, having a name associated with you would get people to play nice
It's usually not a good idea because it means there have to be people to moderate, and that brings in more human error, trust issues and other hassle which takes away from actually developing the site, I'd rather if users got the option to make their Email public on the profile page so if someone wants to contact them for whatever reason they can communicate that way.
sorry its been so slow today, i haven't been baiting or shitposting as hard as i should be.
Is anyone here proficient with gestures?
Can someone tell me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong? I understand what a gesture should accomplish from Vilppu and Proko, simply capture the flow, mass and action of a pose, but I'm not sure if I'm actually getting better or worse and how to correct my strategic mindset to better improve the execution. Much more than "a-ha!" moments I find vast spaces of "what in the fuck am I even doing?"
>doubting the 23:30 club
>g_d's chosen folk
Being unavailable all day and making the post minutes before the deadline two days in a row is too stressful.
Also, 00000000, did you draw those elk from real life?
>sonic beat my giant asshole
fuck you die slow mother fucker
>tfw you make your submissions early but post them in the last minutes because you're an adrenaline addict
i only have from 11am to 4 pm everyday and on free days i try to do the hours of the past days. do it!.
have you seen his past post? he's so lost its not even funny, he seems to have energy so might as well put it somewhere
the 100 challenge thing is not necessary you just draw as many of the things you decide for one hour i just hope to someday i can draw 100 of anything in one hour I also suggest you don't do them so close to each other like, wait 3 days to try it again.
i think you're forza if you're inside on the first 2 to 3 hours.
Anyone notice this from last night submission?
I go to a foreign fine arts college and I've learned almost 90% by myself. First year really opened my eyes to composition and perception though
Most works are shit, most teachers are shit, most people are stuck in their comfort zone forever, some kids even in 5th year are still drawing their deviantart animu
Even then it's the best place to find people who can give you a honest, accurate, useful critique. Out of 50 teachers I think at least 3-4 can do so, and out of my 200 classmates there's about 5-10 that are extremely talented and -most important- very fruitful, always investigating and trying out new stuff. It's no surprise that after all these years they cut off from the rest. For some reason they have me in high regards too.
But anyways as I was saying, it's useful but you have to make it work, if you make the most out of it of course it'll be a thousand times more effective than doodling on your tablet hoping for a good critique on /ic/
The first and most important thing is that you have to learn to say 'I don't like this' and 'this is wrong' to your own drawings, if you achieve this you can be great by yourself, but a second opinion can do wonders
The only thing it's good for is forcing you to actually work instead of slacking off, and having experienced people nearby you can ask questions and get critique from. Otherwise my biggest regret in life was doing a useless creative degree.
Every resource you need to git good is available online and probably better than a school. As long as you actually make an active effort pursue art completely and properly then you're better off 'self-taught'. Fuck art school, wouldn't do it again even if it was free.
The thing some others might not mention is that artschool is good for networking. The few friends out of the dozens I know that graduated from artschools got jobs because their teachers hooked them up.
I went to artschool, I was lazy, my work doesn't stand out among LAS entries.
Disgustingly I was actually one of the better in my year though, because they don't teach drawing on most fine art courses, most people in my year can only make conceptual work.
Art school is just being NEET with a sense of direction and an excuse, it's still all on you to actually use it.
I'm in the same boat as this guy >>2362920 Have my BA and everything but my shit looks amateur. Art school doesn't teach you how to draw. The give you a year of the most basic of fundies and the rest is all frosting and courses on how to best follow prompts when you do get jobs.
You're better off taking that 4 years off and doing self study. It'll be cheaper too.
>not channeling your hatred into your studies
Pleb tier advice, how do you expect to become a Sith lord of drawing with that attitude.
Apparently I'm also good at channeling my hunger. I've started drawing but now my stomach is growling. I hope I still feel motivated after I eat a quick snack, I like how this picture is going so far.
>don't enable comments Lava! Critique is what the threads are for!
>two critique requests in a 200 post thread
>go completely ignored
Doin pretty good. Some of these are missing a spine. Starting with the center line/spine helps define the 'flow' of the whole body.
Think of it as chunks or tubes attached to the skull and continue to break it down into smaller chunks, if that helps. There are tutorials in the sticky.
if were doing critique in the thread.
Plz I need help.
Yours are clean and economic i'd say.
The problem with gesture is that it is very much subjective to the artists who drew it. I think right now you should test it by adding basic forms to the gesture and see if it works or not and then get back to it in 2-3 days.
>Much more than "a-ha!" moments I find vast spaces of "what in the fuck am I even doing?"
Your development is in that "what the fuck am i even doing?" moment.
mfw i wake up, sit down to draw and realize that i cant draw anything without reference
Work on construction. Start with simple blocks and form them like you would if you were working with clay or a similar traditional sculpting medium. That's probably what helped me the most from moving asway from just copying references. It's easy to say you know construction, you construct your way up towards the ref, but you also know where everything will be beforehand because it's right there in the ref. When you're working on your own it's important to work heavier through construction.
That's just how it was for me anyways - maybe you'll find some help in trying to adapt my thinking.
you can do that but how long do you think you'll last? the goal is to form good habits and if you're stockpiling work for days you don't want to draw or if you're submitting old work then how long do you think you'll stick with it?
>tfw can't into drawing machines and stuff
I dunno, my lines just don't look right. I wish my works looked like that Naf guy's
oh, Saturday 00:00 GMT is the start of Saturday, I thought it was the end of Saturday
yep, if you get eliminated then you're kicked out of all active challenges. if you update then it keeps you in all active challenges. this system is to allow new people to join and let the eliminated back in.
there will be topic challenges coming up in the future where you have to draw the suggested topic everyday or be eliminated and they should see a higher turnover rate than the LAS. getting eliminated from one of those won't kick you out of the LAS, as long as you keep submitting.
yeah, friday 23:59:59 may be a better way to describe it
>there will be topic challenges coming up in the future where you have to draw the suggested topic everyday or be eliminated
Lava is going to make us draw his furry commissions, isn't he.
>there will be topic challenges coming up in the future where you have to draw the suggested topic everyday or be eliminated
my body is ready
>there will be topic challenges coming up in the future where you have to draw the suggested topic everyday or be eliminated
You better make the first one Sonic or I'm going to be fucking pissed
And don't forget dragon dildo day
>end up drawing sonic and dragon dildos every single day
what have I done with my life
hearthstone discover mechanic style voting system
Wow, this is the first time someone on /ic/ thought I was getting anywhere with these things. Maybe I am actually learning.
I'll take your advice; it's definitely true that lacking the spine / line of action kind of cripples the strength of some of the gestures.
As for adding basic forms, I guess I should start doing form studies along side my gestures and when comfortable with the concept, I'll start taking the next steps to start fleshing out.
Thanks a bunch, guys!

I know that in some timed challenge communities, they have intentionally flexible (but not overly broad) "prompts" from which you can interpret and make your own original work off of.
For example, each day they let you to choose from a set of three prompts like:
> a touch of cosmos
> triumphant return
> makeshift home

screaming ree is not an accepted meme. go to rk9 if you feel like baiting.
You can't police expressing emotion just because our mod is german
All you fucks do is sit on your high horse wanting anons to jump through hoops for your amusement. The biggest lie that shits out of your mouth is that you want open talk. Please?
Wouldn't everyone be allocated the same randomly picked challenge each week when challenges are implemented?
ie. Challenge of the week is Hands so everyone that wants to participate in the weekly challenge has to draw hands, then the next week it's another randomly picked challenge
say if it was Hands, would it still count if you drew anything as long as it had a notable inclusion of hands?
nice straw man tell me how this is "open talk" and not shitposting.
Tried out some artist grade watercolours today
Yeah man, gud shit.
CMON 5 MASTER STUDIES WHATEVER IT TAKES
8 HOURS SHOULDER GESTURE ROUTINE CMON
LEAVE HUMANITY BEHIND
>draw the suggested topic everyday
Wait, I thought it was just going to be once per week? I'm all for an elimination challenge to keep things interesting, but making you have to draw the same subject matter for the whole week seems harsh to start out with. Maybe we could go with one submission in a week has to fit the challenge at first, then after a while it has to be two days out of the week, and so on building up to the full week of having to draw nothing but the challenge. Then you could even roll it back down to one day. Actually yeah I like the idea of cycles. The first week is one day, next week two days, build to a full week, then restart. Thoughts guys?
because of the snow, there wont be a next challenge for 3 days, so come back after 3 days dude.
the same way LAS is a challenge there will be topic challenges. when you join one you'll be required to draw the topic every day to stay in or you'll be eliminated. there'll be a new topic every day and it's to be decided whether or not everyone will get the same topic each day
get over it dude.
>he deleted my pepe n-no fair!
you can always give up now anon and avoid suffering and humiliation
not gonna lie guys, i want to see how many followers i have
Ignorance is bliss. If you find out you have zero, you'll just be upset and ashamed. If you have some, you'll just want more, and your daily drawings will be with the primary focus of getting followers rather than practicing and improving.
I like this idea. If it's randomly chosen it should be hard to abuse. I guess we'll have to see what kinds of things are getting submitted though, ideally the majority would be things like a theme or a specific thing to study, so silly things like a bunch of waifus won't take over. But even if we all have to draw your waifu, it's still probably good practice. Let's just hope we don't get too many Sonics.
>joining LAS to improve art skills
>stuck to drawing third class furry porn because a bunch of negro individuals keep suggesting it
>mfw still doing it to not drop out
Practice nonhuman characters and exaggerated anatomy.
Practice drawing an attractive girl, which you probably have already submitted at least once by now anyways.
I think it would be interesting to implement, and can be revoked if it turns out to be shitty. Or we could just submit ideas and Lava could choose one, to ensure quality and variation.
Here's an idea: remove all topics people might have problems with. Furry, anthropomorphic whatever, feet, those kinds.
Leave only neutral stuff
I'm not even a footfag, but don't just leave out a body part that's not even inherently sexual just because it might be controversial. Feet are important and most of us will be drawing them with some frequency whether we particularly like them or not.
>Spellcheck , Can't post from comp, rip
> art gallery in 2132
Note the exaggerated anatomy, most notably that of the bulbous rectum of the anthropomorphic tiger and that of the gaping maw of the rabbit that is forcibly consuming the tiger. As we can see by HyperFurryPride132's magnum opus, "Happy Accidents", this bombastic examination of sexuality raises many poignant questions. For instance, the role reversal of predator and prey as facilitated by social media circa 2017, as the victimized gather in numbers to lash back at persecution that undoubtedly was much worse a century ago. Additionally, note the discoloration of the rabbit's diaper marked by this coffee toned shape here and the more subtle tint of pale yellow in the large cloth bulge in the front. There is a palpable irony to the rabbits gluttony, as despite his consumption contributing to his juvenile accident, he continues his ravenous quest with reckless abandon, and with visceral, sexual satisfaction. A statement, perhaps, of the ugliness of revenge and yet its inexplicable power to satisfy us, perhaps even a sexual release, and thus, it's ubiquity. The artist suggests that by feeding upon these impulses recklessly, we find brief satiation and a longing for more, despite the collateral that occurs in the process. Remarkable.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised. I went to an exhibition of stuff done by my school's art students the other day and among the works varying widely in quality was a little binder on a pedestal against the wall. It was full of dA-type stuff, lots of SFW furry art that was obviously done by a young female. It was labelled something like "character design concepts." The art didn't even look bad, the poses were dynamic and the anatomy looked fine, but it was a fucking collection of printed-out digital drawings of anime dogs. It was kind of surreal.
This. The topic would ultimately be what you make it. If some weeb's waifu is the topic and you hate anime, nothing's stopping you from changing the artstyle. If the topic is furfag trash, you can do a study of a real animal or make a badass werewolf or something.
That's what makes it cool: seeing how everybody approaches the topic, especially the goofy ones.
I guess, I'm not an art student and had only gone to one of these before so it was kind of unexpected.
Yeah, I'm honestly having trouble stinking of a topic that would be impossible to do anything useful with. Even if it's fucking dragon dicks you could treat it as an exercise in color and form. I guess the really specific ones like hyper furry diaper vore would be boring, maybe to prevent that kind of thing there could be a character limit?
err well i guess dragons are hybridized from snakes, large lizards and birds with sharp talons so i guess i could create an amalgam of animal dicks
i can't believe i actually used the term "amalgam of animal dicks" what is wrong with you people
guys, am I the only one with a gigantic lack of motivation lately? the first week went bretty gud, I studied Hampton, tried to apply some poses, I've had a really good time overall
but this weekend I felt so annoyed and forced, and I hate myself for that..
my schedule last year was nonexistent, I drew once a month or so, I hope it just takes some time getting used to
I managed to defeat my lazy self so far, but I fear the day it will take over
>former 23:30 club

Bloody hell. Look at the fucking state of it. Your entry is shit! Wake up, and get a grip. Start again! Fucking useless...
Also " fuckredeemed " appeared over the submission box after I submitted today. What's that all about?
Oh trust me, you're going to see a lot more Ramsay from me. I fucking idolize the man. I love life drawing and I want to get into cartooning / animation, so his sheer expressiveness and the various dimples and wrinkles in his face and how they contort in moments of absolute emotion is great for face study.
>I hope it just takes some time getting used to
That's all that it is. 30min of drawing daily is a nice number to start off with when developing a daily drawing habit, but the pressure of posting it for others to see could be a deterrent for some.
Carry a sketchbook around with you everywhere you go, and doodle away whenever you have a couple of idle minutes. Filling your idle time with drawing is a great way to develop the daily drawing habit.
Second piece of advice would be to take it slow. Don't go over your 30min of drawing, and keep that up for 2 weeks (maybe even a month). Once you get that down, add 15min then keep up that new drawing time for another 2 weeks/1month. Then add another 15. You might get to a point where you could realistically add drawing time in 30min chunks instead of 15, but I'd play it safe by keeping the progression slow. You're trying to build a consistent habit - overdoing it will easily lead to burnout and you not drawing for a few solid weeks.
Third advice is to have a routine. Try to draw at the exact same time every day, including weekends. Do it wherever it works in your schedule best (right after lunch, right before dinner, right before bed, first thing in the morning, etc). If you develop a routine that involves you starting to draw at 2:30pm, then motivation isn't allowed to factor in. You draw because it's 2:30pm, not because you're motivated. If it's garbage, so what? You might do a little better tomorrow.
i know what the fuck!! least we beat the furry faggot.

LavaFlake, would you happen to have a running record of how many tokens were consumed and how many real eliminations occurred so far day by day? I'm curious.
>mfw almost forgot to enter to #3
It kills me to not be in #1 anymore but ya'll wrong if you think I'm giving up this easy.
Wait what could I have entered 2 when it was already past the first day of that week? No damn way, I just waited for 3 to start because I thought you could only enter at the beginning of the week.

People actually do this? I just mad max: fury road that shit at night before bed so I can go to sleep without a boner. Fapping as a prolonged activity seems like a huge waste of time.
Lads I want to get a crit on my thing but the drawthread is in shambles. I guess it usually is anyway but it's cool for me to just post here instead now, right? As long as it's my LAS submission?
Just hit me with the standard fare critique stuff. I know the composition needs changing somewhat and part of that is I can't decide whether I want her hand like this like she's adjusting a camera or hidden like she's holding a cell phone. I like written feedback over redlines so I get a chance to figure it out for myself but I'll take and appreciate whatever crit comes.
id like it more if she were looking at the camera and that being her hand doesnt ready very well. i didn't know what it was until i read your description. and her other hand is too far around her leg, like her forearm is curving around
It looks like solid eye contact to me, but that forearm does look really awkward. And wouldn't only the side of the hand be visible? If her thumb was actually in the middle like that she'd be covering the lens. I'd advise you rotate and move the hand so the webbing between the thumb and index finger is in the corner, and the end of the thumb isn't visible. For that arm, maybe try tucking the elbow in more, and the bend should be further down the arm so it's more in the wrist.
Yeah I'm really having trouble with the arm around the legs. I think maybe if I place the hand all the way across to the other leg and position the arm for that it might work, I'll try that. If not I might try a totally different position for it. For the raised hand I think I'm gonna take it out and draw the arm going out of frame. I just looked up some selfies and I think no hand would make it more obvious it's a selfie if I can pull off drawing it that is.
Yeah, and I'm okay with doing that. It helps me to draw it in a less extreme perspective first so I know what's going on in the pose.
Try going into that position yourself and imagine how it would look in that perspective. I just did it and it felt more natural to have my elbow tucked against my leg than being held out like it appears to be in your drawing.
i haven't masturbated in 3 days, and im about to force one out today. Having trouble finding the motivation.
That's okay anon. The tribunal will take care of you.
