I just finished Hans von Luck's memoirs from his time as a Panzer commander, I found these tidbits interesting regarding the North African theater and Rommel:

Rommel at one point said to von Luck that he wished that the western powers would stop fighting each other and turn their attention toward the east (i.e. Russia) where the real threat lay. However, he also said that he doubted that Germany would win the war and that Hitler could never rally Europe under his flag. In Rommel's view, the only warrior capable of rallying Europe under a united banner against the Bolshevists was Winston Churchill.

During most of the Desert fighting, von Luck was guarding the extreme right flank of the Axis (to the south). He developed a curious relationship with his counterpart on the opposing side, an unnamed british commander. von Luck often ordered his men to cease engagement at 1700 and return to base before it got dark. He noticed after awhile that his counterpart did the same.
One day the Germans captured a british scouting party. After 1700 hours that day, the British actually radio'd the Germans and asked if they'd seen Lt. Whatshisface and his men and if so, how were they. von Luck responded that they were all captured, alive and well and then the two sides agreed on a general ceasefire after 1700 each day. 1705 each day they would radio each other and discuss prisoners and other things. For instance, there was some trading of medicine's and cigarettes back and forth.

Interesting stuff... It didn't happen on the eastern front, that's for sure.

It's generally good tactics to lure your opponent's tanks into killzones with your fixed ATGs. And pretty much no tanks will do well in that situation, even the first tigers in North Africa were beaten by little atgs that couldn't even pierce the frontal armor.
