The thing about Final Faptasy is it was difficult for the wrong reasons.
The beat patterns in the last two rounds seemed overly complex for a fap hero, and the "hard" strokes just complicated things further.

interpolating 25 fps to 50 is not a good idea.

convert to 30 fps interpolate to 120 fps and convert to 60 fps.
Make sure the settings are set for animation.
Otherwise you get interpolation artifacts. "small blobs and stuff"

I was thinking about this and decided one of two things were going on:

-The original material had 3:2 pulldown, and was not ivtc'd correctly. A lot of people just run a field interpolator like NNEDI3 over such content, probably ignore the cadence, and call it a day. Or they outright deinterlace it and or try to blend the fields together. The former results in jerky motion, the latter becomes what you see there. Sometimes telecine is just ignored, and when it gets re-encoded can look like that too.
-They want it to run at a multiple of 60hz, or at a higher fps than 23.976. Maybe for the fap bar to be able to be more smoothly animated.

Still, frame blending definitely doesn't look too great. I'd rather actual SVP-like interpolation. If it's going from 24 to 30, it shouldn't be too noticeable. Most elements in japanese animation only move at 6 or 12 fps, and they're just staggered so it appears motion is occurring all the time. Or it's masked with a camera pan or lighting effects.

No, I'm saying to think about what's actually happening when you "convert", and understand what your source content is. If the source is telecined, it's actually 24 fps but has been made to play at 30 by mixing together the fields of the last two frames. Hence 3:2 pulldown. For every 3 clean frames, there are two mixed. You unmix them, then delete the duplicate. You end up with 4 progressive frames per every 5 frames you process, this is how the producer made it look like shit during camera pans and scenes like that other poster highlighted, so that it would play in the region it was destined for. DVD would only take multiples of 30 fps in some regions (NTSC), 25 in europe and a few other regions (PAL). Maybe it wouldn't even take multiples, I don't remember. At least NTSC can be more or less losslessly reversed. Whereas PAL conversions tend to screw everything up.

Don't be a dickhead and give me your tl;dr shit. Read what I wrote, and if you want to know something and think there's something I can tell you worth knowing, ask targeted questions. I can't give you a blanket answer of whether or not to do it in 60 fps, because it's a lot more complicated than that.

Finally got around to playing Nanashi's FH.
Good shit. Didn't like the music choice for the first round, but everything else was amazing.

Had some of my favourite animations in it AND covered some of my biggest fetishes. Pretty hard one, but great work. Can't wait for the next one.

Hard strokes were just a cover up of me fucking up the audio cutting in audacity. They don't have to be used for optimal experience, but I might use them again in the future, this time more skillfully.

Okay, I haven't play all of them (been trying to work through them in release order somewhat), but Era! is definitely by far the best one I've played. It's literally the only FH to ever get me close to losing as early as round 2, if at all. The ending was MUCH better than Paradise's, to be sure, but I was a little disappointed that it was the least challenging of the rounds. I still kind of prefer the concept of a reward round like the original had, if only because I still to this day will go back and watch it when I want to rub one out real quick. Getting rid of the beat meter was also a big downside in Paradise that I'm glad was rectified.

All in all, I feel like Era! sets a standard that every FH needs to try and meet, if not exceed. The music choices and scene selections were good, but most other FHs get that right. Where Era! really excels though, which most other FHs get very wrong, is its fap beat. It's not as simple as BPM, either, Era! does a good job of knowing exactly when to up the intensity, and for exactly how long. Most other FHs are way to lenient on you, but Era! keeps you challenged without going overboard and being unfair. I would go as far as to say that there are other FHs that would suddenly become 10x better if they had a fap beat like Era!'s.

So, my question for you guys: is it all downhill from here? Are there any other FHs that do as good a job as Era! did?

One thing I think FH creators need to take into account is that something they find hot might not necessarily be all that great to others. This seems obvious, and in fact I'm sure most FH creators already know this. But there's more to it than that.

Let's take Bastati's Era! as an example. The ending (as in the last round) is good, sure. Definitely a step up from the disappointment that was Paradise's ending. One thing I'd like to point out though was the use of rapid fire imagery of various scenes. Bastati definitely had the right idea with this: the way you create extremely hot visuals isn't by simply showing a scene or scenes you find hot, or even think others will find hot. Porn is a source of instant gratification, and this is important. What it means is, when we look for porn, we're always looking for things that are constantly stimulating to us. The moment it gets stale is the moment we click away and look for something else. This is why the rapid fire method that he attempted works so well, but he made one slight error: all the scenes in the final round come from the same source material (as far as I can tell). This introduces the potential for staleness much faster, particularly for someone who may not like the style of that source.

I think another good example of what I mean is the original Fap Hero's reward round. If you think for a second about why it's so easy to cum during it, you might think its as simple as "well, the beat meter is at max BPM and never stops, so of course you're going to cum eventually". And yes, that is true. However, what you might not realize is the same thing is also happening with the visuals. The reward round presents you with a non stop gauntlet of various intense visual stimulation, never giving your brain a chance to rest or having something go stale. In effect the visuals are being just as relentless as the beat meter is.

Think of it this way: in Fap Hero, there are, in effect, TWO beat meters. One is obvious, the beat meter for your dick. But the other is the visuals, which you can think of as a beat meter for your brain. Lower intensity is determined by how much content is stimulating your imagination. It doesn't matter how hot a particular scene or scenes are, if they're allowed to linger for long enough, they'll grow mentally stale after a while, and you'll be aching to move on to the next "thing". On the other hand, higher intensity for your brain would be highly stimulating scenes (things like cumshots, fast paced stuff, etc) that come at a rate so quickly your imagination never gets a chance to lull, much like the actual beat meter where your dick might not get a break either. Think of it like eating a piece of fruity gum: one piece might be particularly tasty, but eventually it runs out of flavor, so you spit it out and pop another piece in. Higher intensity "flavor" would be constantly replacing gum so quickly that you never experience the loss of flavor.

For this reason, what I'd really like to see is a Fap Hero that takes advantage of this concept. Make rounds harder not only with the beat meter, but by stimulating the imagination with an assault of content. Imagine a final round, actually meant to be super difficult, which is essentially like original Fap Hero's reward round as far as content, but with a beat meter that's actually fair (yet still, very challenging.)

In summation, a well designed Fap Hero increases its difficulty via two means: one, the beat (obviously), but the other, via relentless imaginative stimulation (which some creators erroneously believe to simply be "hotter scenes").

I hope I've done a good job of expressing what I mean by this.

So, I'm creating my own fap hero. I've done one round (3 songs), and I'd like feedback on it. It's a beta, and I'm constantly changing/tweeking things, but I figure best to get it out there quickly so you guys can tell me which parts you do/don't like.

If it sucks, please go ahead and tell me why. I'm looking to change a lot anyway, so I really don't mind. I'll probably end up with 4/5 rounds, with this as the first, and easiest. The goal is to have the last song in each round something you could realistically fail on, though I don't really expect that on the first round. The first/second songs are meant to be arousing, but just pushing you a little, not really with the potential for failure.

I am trying to keep somewhat to a 'story' kind of vibe each round, so you won't see just a load of random penetration scenes from different hentai. Rather, there will be a build up in intensity of the on-screen action following a particular series, or girl. I appreciate some people dislike this kind of thing, but it does it for me, so that's what I went with.

I will add bells and whistles later, such as host, breaks, instructions, fancy beat meter, credits, etc. I'm more concerned with the beats/video editing right now.

I found out recently that the third song is in use in another fap hero (I forgot which), so I may re-do that part completely. Though I ought to ask; does it bother you when you see hentai and/or songs in a fap hero that you've seen in another? Or, even, if you've seen/heard them before? IE, would it be better to use more obscure hentai to give a 'novelty factor', or go with what I think is the best regardless of how well known it is?

What will your on-screen action look like once you've reached a point where you want to display high intensity? This is important.

I don't know about songs, but I think it's a little unrealistic to expect Fap Hero creators to never, ever use the same hentai scenes that someone else did. I wouldn't really worry too much about this.

High intensity is basically going to be a fast beat, with rapid screen changes during penetration. Either with a very long scene for multiple camera angles, or multiple girls. High intensity would basically correspond to particular fetishes. So you could have anal scenes, fucking 3 girls at once, a double blowjob, stuff like that, hopefully all done with rapid scene changes. I think the best way to think about the poll results is the fact that Era! is the Final Fantasy 7 of Fap Heroes. It is the originator of a brand new generation, and served as a showcase of the vast possibilities that are actually available with enough time, effort, and technology. Era! was the "one," though Grimoire or School of Sin would have been in its place if they were released at that time.

I think that going forward, that this is sort of going to be the new standard by which works are judged (such as how Grimoire's advancements were talked about in light of Era!), similar to how people discussed how Gu's, Hell, etc. compared to the original FH.

What you have is natural, an ever increasing bar of quality, but also respect for the steps laid by the early pioneers.

It felt like a lot of the early Fap Heroes brought different things to the table. Gu's in particular used higher graphical quality than its contemporaries, but it did seem to run into the problem of essentially running full rounds on heavily looped material and limited scenes. Considering the sources used such as the ECM series, there was little that could be done if that was his vision.

That said, I think the original Fap Hero maintained a very high status over all the other early works due to the design, pacing, and particularly the host. From reading these threads, a host is probably the single most desired addition to any new FH. It brings more interactivity and immersion, and to be honest, FH seems to be gravitating to more of an experience than simple fap material.

Give it a couple years and we might have awards for best writing in a Fap Hero. This is only half joking, as it could be reminiscent of things like MGQ. Come for the porn, stay for the story/experience.

Are you saying that's a good thing? I did like to sort of switch up the speed on the visuals every now and then. In particular, there are some scenes that just don't look good sped up to the point they need to be in order to match a fast beat, so I like to put them in the slower beats, giving a contrast.

I think this is because I was going for a 'story' kind of feel. So there are naturally moments in the hentai where it makes sense to slow down, and then to speed up, penetration being a more obvious one. Gives a natural kind of break.
I've not done much with the beat sound desu. I pretty much just kept it the same across the entirety of all the songs. I may work on altering the volume to make it a bit more obvious, and not too overpowering when it doesn't need to be.
I agree with the scene at 8:00. I was running out of material at that point, if I'm honest. I didn't like it myself, but it was that or extend an existing loop to be too long. As for the one at 8:14, I sort of agree, but I don't really like oversyncing too much. I'll see what I can do about it, regardless.

Yea. At least its something what i like. I mean monotone is good for warm up a bit, but not for whole story. Actually there is similar principle in storyboarding and many other areas. In few words when author creates plot he has hero and his goal. It might be anything, but way to it is usually very similar. Its some path to success and some surprising obstacle after that. Some pause, second part to success and maybe even stronger comeback. After that peak with happy ending.

So i think this way works perfect. Its not simple constant monotone fast tempo. Its more waving. And if you can edit some scenes for fitting one or other sides its nice. I mean this principle can be used in few things:
1. Videotempo in single frame. That 4:16 is example for this. Its expected fast change.
2. VIdeotempo between scenes. Example of that is whole 3:30-5:00. You used long frames at start and many shorter at the end.
3. VIdeotempo between episodes. Intro was in warm up style and after that 2 with low-mid-high rhythm.
4. Intensity of action. Its more about fetishes, but main direction is usually same for many people. In video start was teasing, mid was sex and 3rd was anal.
5. Type of beat. Complicated one can distract and simple one usually have high intensity.
6. And sure tempo of beat.

And its usually combined. Im not sure you did it intentionally or not, but you followed that pretty well. Look for whole 4:00-5:00 and each video/beat/intensity moved from low to high. From stable-long video frames to fast/jumping, from slow to fast tempo and from complicated to simple rhythm. Some frames indeed not so good when edited in different speed, but sometimes it perfectly fits.

1. The beatbar is amazing, I was worried about being to the left but i get used to it pretty fast. I think the color ripple effect is superb but it could be a little distracting for time to time.

I guess since you're contending with different tastes, I wanted to put in some input since this was my favorite of the offerings including the original.

I noticed little nods or, I guess even upgrades, to the original FH in that you used, if memory serves, at least two of the same H-Anime. The one that stands out most being having the exact same H-Anime as in your second round as the original FH. Though you made it span the entire cast of characters, etc. I think the changing of girls would correspond to what the actual work you're using allows for in terms of intimacy, but I did actually like the various montages of penetration and such.

At about 15:26 in the beat actually confused the hell out of me, so I'd probably mirror any sentiment on odd/ambitious beats there. I tend to skip the beginning because I don't really enjoy the song, personally.

Overall, I enjoyed the production on things like the beat bar, the synchronicity between music and video, and the different cuts are all things I appreciated to the point I prefer this to other FHs.

I think the production does it, which might be a disservice to different FH's, but even the lack of host didn't bother me at all. I actually found that more immersive though I'd say that's likely a subjective decision that some might not agree with.

Overall, the work seems flexible depending on whether I'm trying to play to the end or just hit favorite sections. It's also versatile to whether or not you're using your hand or an onahole. Either way, thanks. Hope your next work goes well.

as for why the bpm never gets super high. I had originally planed one more round. "2 more on the way btw :)"... and this meant the final version would have about 50 minutes of pure fapping. this cobbled with the fact that not all people are speed machines is why i had to limit the bpm. I tried to hit a good balance... Keep in mind i'm making this not just for you but for everyone. But most of all.. I made it for myself :D

Not bad.
1. Color change in bar looks interesting.
2. There are many complicated patterns. It distracts first time, but when appears later seems ok, because already known.
3. Episodes without stops looks ok too.

But at least for me there is problem with bpm. Its simply too high (audio and video changes) without any break and in 300 bpm frames it makes reverse effect because hand is already a bit tired. Actually the best effect was in 6:42 and same "pauses" because it changes to slow rhythm with "static" video. I think it d be much better to use similar and faster rhythm and mix it with peaks. 3-4 strokes each second is a bit too much for main rhythm.

i do think the stable high beat like this that many do is just wrong.
the best way to handle high beats is to build up to it then drop down to a normal beat in sync with the music. not only does this feel alot better that just going fast all the time. but it also gives the player confidence in his performance and feel great about that IMO.
to build up to a high speed to such a close point to then drop down again for empowering the player.

Gu's Fap Hero have a few of these moments that work great. im sure there more that does it but its the first one that comes to mind.

Yea, i think there are 2 main samples for fast beat. Short which usually comes with increasing before, slow-medium after and long which should come with relax.

For example, slow-->smooth increase-->short fast-->mid-->fast works ok. Something like X-X-X-X-X-X--------X-X-X-X-X-X works ok too or simple mid-->long fast-->slow. In other words any which include teasing and acceptable arm tiredness or difficulty. We also shouldnt forget slow cant make it worse. It might be only not enough. Im sure its possibly to make very slow faphero, but with good rhythm changes it ll be enough, because slow deep stroke is also quite sensitive. Fast stroke is very situational option, it mostly works only when person gained high pleasure level and in this case it skyrockets it even farther. Good example when person already fapped few times before and overall sensitivity isnt very high. In this case fast strokes simply kills all pleasure. But even in this case its needed at peak which shifted at longer duration.
