Mac+ Senior specialist here; that's not our SOP anymore.

T1s are supposed to isolate malware now, find it in the library or applications folder and either delete the application if it's adware or install malwarebytes for mac and clean it up if it isn't.

They also make sure to check safari for any bad extensions and clear out the cookies and cache.

Sure, that isn't so impressive as actual anti-virus support but we do this for free even with people who aren't covered by their warranty.

And; in the cases of the geriatric, it works around 99% of the time. I, as SS, rarely ever see malware cases.

Its functional, durable, and moduler not mean't to be pretty.
Macbooks tend to look the way they do as they are built with profit margins in mind and having less parts saves a few cents.
Why waste money on building a magnesium frame and case plastics with 2 pieces of aluminum will be cheaper and look pretty, the aluminum will not be as durable and will not take falls as easily as the frame with plastic case but hey that doesn't matter it looks pretty.
Same with all the other stuff big example is the 2016 MBP with everything soldered into the motherboard, you have no repairabilty but soldering everything saves a few bucks for Apple.
