When purchasing the hd600, you are essentially buying headphones that have massive amounts of distortion in the low frequency region. This cannot be fixed by EQ and is a result of dynamic driver limitations. Spending more than $150 on dynamic driver headphones is a poor decision.

If you are not going to use an amp then is it still shitty?

Newbie with his newly acquired HD600. My mobo is sometimes making electronic noises and it's annoying (it doesn't seem to come from the headphones themselves since it doesn't occur when I plug it to my Switch / 3DS). Would buying some Asus soundcard help? They're not expensive apparently. I also feel like it's not powering them enough.
Maybe a dumb question but, regarding the electronic noises, would plugging them to the rear help? For now they're plugged on the front.

An amp is not out of question but considering it's more expensive I'd like to look into it more first, and try the HD600 without for a longer time.

Things like radiation pattern will the primary factor. A standard direct radiating speaker has no real issue being placed against a wall.
A lesser factor is if the speaker has a rear port. These will require a bit of space for airflow, A few inches, about 10-15 cm will work.

Literally no scratches at all, even inside the device it looks pristine. I've tried it on another laptop, the devices is detected but just no sound, I use pavucontrol to switch the output and it just goes dead silent when I switch to the magni modi. I've opened it up and given it a quick dust off with some compressed air to see it that would fix it but that's done nothing. And when I mean it was a light fall, it really was. If it had hit a hard floor I would have been worried, but there's no exterior damage to it at all. Might be able to get Schitt to repair it under warranty.

are there any headphones that are like apple's airpods? specifically how they are modular and cable-less. i'm often listening in only one ear and it sounds amazing to not have cables hanging down and shit. but the airpods seem to have poor sound quality and seem a bit overpriced.

So, I've still got my HD555 that I bought years ago. It's still in good condition, it only has one tiny crack near a corner. But the earpads are just at the end of their lifespan, as is the headband cushion.

Where can I get replacement ear/headband pads in europe, since the model has been discontinued? I tired amazon, but all I see are chinese knock-offs. I bought one of those years ago, but the plastic ring they used was so shit it wouldn't even click in, not to mention the material they used just wasn't as nice as the original pads.

An external DAC+amp is what you need to get rid of that. Get a Schiit Fulla 2 (amp+DAC combo unit which can be used as a standalone DAC) and see if its volume is adequate for your preferences. It probably will be. If it isn't, get a Magni 2 and use the Fulla 2 as just a DAC.

For isolation in commutes, foam sleeves work best. Triflange and biflange sleeves are a comparable alternative. Foam can be difficult to use, and it is my experience that most people are totally incompetent at wearing headphones and in-ears.
A deep fit (bony part of the ear canal) is mandatory for really high isolation, particularly. Etymotics are well known for this, but anything else that is small with a slim stem can be inserted with relative ease.

I'm partial to the Etymotic ER4SR. Even toned throughout, smooth and well balanced sound. Significantly more so than practically all IEMs with high driver counts. It is very particular with fit, especially with the bass response, so you may have to spend some time attempting to find an appropriate sleeve. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much tolerance for error here.
May as well consider the 4XR as an alternative for a little more low frequency. It's not particularly "less neutral" despite what you may find people say.

The driver has been ported, which replaced the 4SR bass slope off with a bass boost. The low frequency sensitivity has been increased. Neither is 4SR or 4XR is more accurate in this regard.

Spectral emphasis can be taken as zero-sum as you suggest. The change is not dramatic anyway.

ER-4SR is more neutral than ER-4XR. This is not debatable. ER-4SR has a 1 dB bass rolloff when measured with a good seal. ER-4XR has a 3-5 dB bass boost. ER-4XR is significantly more bass-heavy than ER-4SR is bass-light.

Moreover, the look of the bass makes me think it's a poorly sealed measurement (ha ha meme xD) and that it probably has a 5dB bass boost when properly sealed. I didn't like the lsr305 for desktop and it's actually got pretty bad off axis and dispersion.
Micca 42x is has the same problem as the lsr305 and the vocals always seemed off to me.
My only complaints about the Vanatoo T0 is that it sounds a little too warm. But I don't think I'll find another speaker with such amazing dispersion.

Built better, more common detachable cable (569 uses a 2.5 TRS twist lock detachable cable), basically a retuned DT770 80 Ohm with bass port adjusters. If you're not into a V-Shape, the 569 would be my personal second option.

HF5 should come with 100 Ohm adapter. I believe Etymotic ER4PT comes with 25 ohm in it and includes 75 ohm adapter.
