With putty I can access the dark blue folders and the contents but when using ftp I can only see the cyan folders (symlinks?).
How to I ftp into the dark blue folders?

Looking for a worthwhile DSL Modem Router to replace an ASUS RT-N66U router (hooked up to a shit-ass TalkTalk DSL modem router)
After years of use, the N66U is failing me, it was a good run though.

Vcore = the voltage the CPU core runs at, higher = generally more stable overclock. VCCIO = the voltage for the input/output section of the CPU, doesn't do much. My cousin is quite paranoid when it comes to.. Well pretty much everything.

He is quite tech-illiterate too and managed to completely fuck up his computer.
He pirated Windows 7, then managed to get some dodgey activator, used that for a few months and got the PC full with virusses.
Now he bought a fucking Apple computer (''because they can't get virusses''), typical normie.
This happened a couple of years ago.

He wanted to throw the computer away, I told him not to and he handed it over to me.

It's a system with an FX8320 (if I'm not mistaken), a GTX660, 8GB of RAM and 2x 1TB HDD.

Problem is, the entire system is a mess.
But it's better than my current one, so I decided to give it a try.

Is it possible to get this back to ''new'' as in, completely nuke the entire thing to remove any left overs from his old install(s) or is it better to just sell this thing and buy completely new parts with it just to be sure because it's beyond repair?

I have an SSD for my root filesystem. All my media is stored on a 1TB HDD which I mount automatically in ~/Storage. 2 folders on the HDD are bound to ~/Videos and ~/Music, my fstab looks like this:

Now, when I delete files from either of those folders, it doesn't actually delete the files, it stores them in .Trash-1000 instead, but I can not empty my trash, it doesn't fill, I have to manually delete the folder. If however I go to the same folder but through the ~/Storage path, deletion works as expected. What am I doing wrong here? Should I mount Storage outside of my home folder instead? I do want Videos and Music bound to the Storage disk.

In the last month I've had both my browsers (Chrome and Firefox) on both my desktops (home and office) start freezing randomly.
It is probably related to a Windows 10 or browser update or something? My browsing pattern and load hasn't changed, but there was a major Windows update.
I have antivirus, thats not the issue. The computers are powerful enough in terms of RAM, thats not it either. Restarting the application doesn't seem to influence it, its probably not a memory leak.

Just short 1-3 second freezes at random moments, like when I tried to correct a mistake in this post by clicking in a previous paragraph.

So I just upgraded my home server to an Ryzen 7 1700 and it's working great.

Thing is though I had to use an old Geforce 7300 LE housefire for VGA since ryzen has no integrated solution, is there some dirt cheap option I could buy to replace this thing? It runs at 55 Celsius constantly and it's old as fuck, I just really don't like it.

My job is a controls engineer. I literally am in charge of making million dollar machines operate correctly. In my field the only people that write viruses for this equipment is the NSA.

I have a 500GB iomega Prestige USB drive I used for backups. Filled the drive with data and stashed it away some years ago, last week I tried to retrieve data and the drive is completely fucked. Less than 40 hours of use. Literally the 3 or 4 days I used to write the data on it. The rest of usage counted is the time it took to read the half-broken data back.
SMART was fine at the beginning, then it began ringing all the broken sectors.

If you do something stupid as this, use PAR files to have at least enough redundancy to recover your files in case of spotty media failure. That's also extremely useful when backing up to external magnetic or optical media.

My computer has started to shut down whenever If I play a video game for around 10-30 minutes, my computer shuts down. I thought it was overheating, but I started it back up right away and checked Speccy. It was showing 55C on graphics card, 50 C on motherboard, and 42C on CPU. Those aren't anywhere near overheating temps, so that can't be it. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

i7 7700K, GTX 1070, 16GB RAM, but for some reason changing graphics settings (ultra low - ultra high) in my vidya does not have any effect on performance - still low.
Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 - 22 FPS on any settings
Insurgency 12-20 FPS on any settings
I am at my wit's ends.

Time to open your task manager then and see if the CPU is properly utilized during the game. Change it to display all of the cores instead of a general figure. For GPU utilization you can use GPU-z.

Is there anywhere you can get in this industry without programming knowledge? Everywhere I look, even in occupations where I hear that people never have to program, it's still listed as something that you need to know. As a math brainlet, is there anything I can do to get a job?

I setup a computer for my dad, and I figure i should put on an antivirus or something. I personally never uesd one and I haven't any problems, but he isn't very tech savvy and probably clicks whatever. Which is a good free program I can install to protect him? A lot of the antiviruses have a free trial, should I just go for that?

Could I get a quick rundown on GPU pass through? So if my chipset supports it, does that mean both my host OS and VM can both make full use of the GPU? Or does it just mean just the VM has the option to fully utilize the GPU?

Huge difference when it comes to temperatures and overclocking potential.
Also mini versions are clocked at slower speeds.
Also mini versions usually use shitty heatsinks (See Zotac mini GTX series where they use a full aluminium heatsink) and the GPUs get really hot.

If you have no reason to get a mini GPU dont do it at all, the only reason is if you have a case where a long card doesnt fit.

Because of other financial obligations, it'll take me a month and a half to get the money for my new build. Not sure if I want to go with a crippled/dead computer until then. Especially if I can find a cheap replacement. I won't spend more than 50 on the replacement though.
