>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 are heavily discounted
>R5 1500X will keep above 60fps in most game. No i5 unless discounted
>R5 1600 is the best value for higher fps gaming and mixed usage; 1600x if you don't want to OC
>i7-7700k is bad value but good; may have heat issues even at stock clocks
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use, R5 if budget

Graphics:

>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, have to drop a few settings
>1060 - outperformed slightly by RX 580; consider if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA)
>1070 - 1080p@144hz/1440p@100+hz

The R5 1600x doesn't come with a cooler so you want to get one. Or you could save some money and get an R5 1600, with an aftermarket cooler still, and overclock it to reach R5 1600 levels of performance. That would also allow you to upgrade the RAM (while still overall paying less) which will end up giving you more performance.

I have a 960 EVO M.2 drive that's making a scratching noise whenever the computer is doing something storage related. I have no other drives connected and I put my ear up to it and it's coming from the M.2 ssd. I looked it up on Google and read that disabling C1 fixes the noise. If it's a BIOS setting, I can't find it. X370 Taichi. Any suggestions?

Looking to buy a new gpu since my 4 year old Sapphire HD9750 3gb duel-x fans have started to give up. On a really tight budget, can afford max around 224 usd (2000 sek, GPUs are expensive here in Sweden).

Missed a 180 usd deal on MSI GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4gb yesterday, today it costs 200 usd.

Asus Radeon RX 470 Strix Gaming 4gb is now at 224 usd.

My cpu is currently a fx 8320 and it is not going to change for a while. Help me pick gpu.

I made some minor OP improvements that I'll post below.

Scratching noise? What the hell. I thought those have no moving parts. No idea, though. Are you sure it's not under some folder in the BIOS? My ASRock BIOS has lots of various folders with more options.

Rx 470 would be a decent choice and it wouldn't be that much bottlenecked by an fx 8320
Try to see if there's also rx 570s around that price
1050ti is a good card but going from your previous card it would be noticeably worse, so don't do that

Thanks for the advice.

The rx 570s I can find for around that price are Gigabyte's for 224 usd (Aourus ed. slightly more expensive), Sapphire's Pulse for 236 usd and both ASUS and MSI's Gaming X for 258 usd.

Which one is most worth the money?

The Gigabyte of course, the others are better but they do not provide a performance increase worth the price different at all.
The 570 is decently faster than a 470, it's definitely worth the price if it's just slightly more expensive.
>>
>>60403546
Odd question, but does the Phanteks Enthoo Luxe have a lighting option to turn off the side lights? (other than disconnecting the wires). I prefer not having the case lighting up my room all night and wasting power, tho it is a nice aesthetic when in use.

I've read through the manual online but came up with nothing.

Other than that, I'd settle just fine with the Pro, depending whic is on sale.
>>
>>60403780
The button at the front just cycles between green blue violet and red, there is no "off" option unfortunately
>>
>>60403767
The Gigabyte seems to be out of stock, but I can get the Auros edition for 10 usd more. Still worth it?
>>
why do we have two autism threads. Look at the guts thread, only 1 out of every 10000 wishlists actually gets purchased. who gives a fuck about op/fgt?
>>
>>60403703
glad I knew better than to waste money on one of those. ayy.
Unless you actually do use it as a scratch disk, which I doubt.

>>60403713
Did you not read the manual that tells you to pop open the levers to the side first..?
You can sometimes only use 2 slots first, and the others don't work until those are populated. But yes, maybe, though it may run at slower speed on the others (which is why 2 DIMMS is recommended over 4 with dual channel).

>>60403645
>>60403743
Why would you have paid $180 for the 1050 Ti when the 470 is 50% faster and only $44 more?
That's the obvious choice there, even if your CPU will bottleneck it in many cases.
The Strix 470 might be better than the Aorus. Those were pretty high quality and might handle a BIOS flash, especially if they're dual BIOS. Gigabyte AMD GPUs tend to be loud and hot.
The Gaming X is the second best RX570 after the Red Devil, but it's not worth $34 more (they're only $10-$15 more here)
>>
>>60403852
yes but no higher than that, the RX 570 is just a RX 470 that can achieve higher clock after all

>>60403875
This thread is made to help anons with building the right parts, so the OP is important as it provides them with basic information before they come to us.
>>
>>60403875
Just report the other and move on.
>>
>>60403843
Ah, what a shame. The Pro will still be nice for me. Maybe a little interior lighting and it'll look nice lol
>>
>>60403624
Intel started assembling them poorly. Too much adhesive that spaces the IHS Too far from the die so it can't transfer heat from the die to the IHS to the cooler well.
How bad it really is varies by luck.

>>60403875
OP came to be how it is due to lots of common questions each thread.
The 2 DIMMs thing and NVMe shit especially.
Every single thread you get people asking if NVMe is actually worth it, or putting it in their builds by default because they saw someone else on leddit who was so excited to get their useless overpriced 960 Evo.
>>
Have the RAM speed issues on Ryzen been solved yet? I remember reading something about how fast RAM doesn't work at its native speed because of crappy mobos and you need special RAM designed for Ryzen, but has that been fixed by now?

I'm looking at getting the ASRock AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX with 16GB DDR4 3200mHz RAM, and the mobo says that 3200 is the highest speed that's supported so I should be fine, right?
>>
>>60403891
the 580 is a poor choice for 1440 though, I have an oc 390x that benches about the same and it can only run ultra textures and a high medium mix for a locked 60fps in witcher and fo4, they aren't even new.

>>60403929
fair enough but it is always changing and people argue about it.
>>
>>60403953
>because of crappy mobos
No, because of early software.

>and you need special RAM designed for Ryzen,
Well ,some specific kits do work better to achieve high clocks, but it doesn't mean others do not. Specifically, Samsung B Die RAM kits work the best, but they tend to be much more expensive. Hynix kits have less luck at reaching those high frequencies but still do achieve them at times.

>but has that been fixed by now?
The AGESA update AMD has been working on for the past month and a half is made to address these specific RAM overclocking issues. It's planned to be released with new bioses later this month.

>the mobo says that 3200 is the highest speed that's supported so I should be fine, right?
It's pretty random, we can't tell you for sure.
>>
>>60403958
It's not an ideal choice but it's not a shit choice either, if you do drop a few settings (mostly the ones that cost the most FPS while having the least graphical impact like anti aliasing or such) you can achieve it
But yeah, the GTX 1070 is mostly the card recommended here for 1440p
>>
Who's the best RX 580 vendor? Need a quiet and cool card.

XFX is not an option in my country
>>
>>60403645
What store are you buying from? The ASUS RX480 costs 2190 SEK at Netonnet, getting a 1050 Ti at that price is pointless, especially since even the RX470 outperforms it by a lot.
>>
>>60404007
MSI is pretty good for both quiet and cool

>I have an oc 390x that benches about the same and it can only run ultra textures and a high medium mix for a locked 60fps in witcher and fo4, they aren't even new.
Witcher 3 is really demanding and FO4 is just plain terribly optimized.
Yes, you're right you won't hit a consistent 60+ on those. But 99.95% of games you can on high/very-high settings.
And hell, most games from the past few years still look great on "medium" even if you had to drop down that low, which you almost never will.

>>60404007
Red Devil GS, GTR-S, or Nitro++.
But I wouldn't spend that much for just a 1080p card. The RX570 has the same number of ROPs and the RX570 Red Devil and Gaming X are clocked high. I'd only buy one of those 3 above if you are doing 1440p and need the best you can get.
>>
>>60404026
>Witcher 3 is really demanding
It's mostly the forced x64 tesselation that is doing this
>>
>>60404026
Oh. I keep forgetting to update the deus ex resolution used there.
And driver got an update for GR Wildlands and it's more like 50 fps on very high 1440p, and 60+ on high.
>>
>>60404015
Hmh, i think I saw a graph that shows that MSI is pretty loud and saw some pretty bad reviews
>>

>>
>>60404145
A 7700k would give you the most FPS out of all CPU right now, assuming GPU isn't a bottleneck in the game you'll play (unlikely)
What exactly do you do besides gaming? An R5 1600(x) might be a better choice
>>
>>60404172

I really only game and stream.
>>
>>60404167
What about Sapphire Pulse?
>>
>>60404180
>only game and stream.
R5 1600(x) all the way then, video encoding loves more core and having more headroom left to do so while gaming is much better for both frame pacing & stream quality

Might wanna get a good $50 cooler with it to overclock it. Considering you're going high end, it's a performance boost that definitely could be noticed
>>
>>60404145
7700k
>>
>>60404203

why 1600x over 7700k?
>>
>>60404227
Because you said you stream. Streaming is video encoding, and video-encoding while you're playing a video game requires a decent amount of CPU power. Considering x264 encoding scales very well with cores, it's a no brainer.
The 7700k has only 4 cores / 8 threads, it has some headroom left while gaming (anywhere between 30 & 20%) but that isn't ideal for streaming because of CPU usage spikes that happen in every games, which would cause noticeable stutter should your CPU reach a 100% or close usage.

With the money saved from going r5 1600x instead of 7700k, you could get a great cooler and higher clocked ram to tighten the not that big gap between them in gaming.
>>
>>60404120
The 470 or 570 is the way to go for 1080p but they cost almost the same as the 480 here in Sweden
>>
>>60404120
>I play at 1080p, that is why the more cheap 1050 ti grabbed my attention thinking I could accept lower gfx settings and getting away cheaper.
Ah. Well that would be the case, yes. But if you do play new games, there will sooner come a point that the 1050Ti doesn't even play stuff on low-medium at 60fps+.
1050Ti wouldn't be a bad choice though. You just may need to upgrade again sooner.

You said you had a 9750 which doesn't exist. I'm guessing you meant a 7950. The 1050Ti is slower in some cases than the 7950 (DX12/Vulkan) while the RX570 is 70-100% faster.

Should do. But if you see yourself doing more with PC's in the future, but not having expendable cash [insert upsale here]
Particularly the GPU because to upgrade that CPU would also requite a mobo, and everyone is more cased up in the future; that and you may want a newer game at some point. Keep an eye put for sales. Also I think the 560 is a thing now.

If I'm not mistaken, Nvidia never fixed the microstutter problem with SLI.

You're better off getting a Titan Xp or waiting for Vega. You want the best single card possible.
If you do dual card, Crossfire tends to scale better and AMD fixed their own microstutter problem with it ages ago. But I still wouldn't recommend it.

This Anon is correct.

You should just try using the iGPU first, and see how you get by with that before upgrading the GPU.
If you upgrade, I think the RX460 is something like 5-6x the iGPU performance, and RX560/1050ti even more better.

>>60407456
A single 1080Ti does 1440p pretty well, dude. Gets 144fps in lots of games. Worst it does is like 90 on 1% minimums for some games, or the averages for shitty games like GR Wildlands.
Or you can wait for Vega. It'll likely outdo the 1080Ti at 1440p.

>>60407372
I'd say 1600X and RX570.
Paradox games are never well threaded from what I've seen, but the 1600X single threaded performance is still plenty for those games. May as well have the left over performance for other shit since it's cheap anyway and well within your budget.

I still need to test how Stellaris and Cities Skylines run on my 1600X. They were chugging my i5-2500k sometimes. But a lot of games so far have been over 50% better average and with none of the slow downs and stutters.

That Gigabyte one is pretty loud and hot.
Just save the $40 and get the RX570 Red Devil. It's 99% the same performance at 1080p as that lower end RX580. Assuming the Red Devil fits in your case; it's really long.

Drop the HDD and use the savings on that and the GPU to get a good 1TB SSD like the SU800 or MX300 instead.
The ASUS b350 Prime mATX is cheaper and better than that board, too.

>>60407880

Nvm. The Red Devil RX570 is like never in stock. The ROG Strix and XFX RS are other good RX570s. The prices look a bit silly at the moment, though. They were all $170-$180 a few days ago. So it could be better going with the Gigabyte 580 and just not running it 100%.

Is a 1080 gtx with an i7 7700k going to overheat in a midsize air cooled tower?

It will all fit perfectly fine, and the tower is mostly aluminum mesh. 2 front fans, 2 back fans, 1 top exhaust.

Also, will rubbing my extta thermal paste on my balls cause any health problems? Id like the cooling effects to persist over the summer. It's non-conductive, so I wont get metal poisoning.

So, a few questions.
Probably I could get a new Ryzen 5, namely the 1400 chip through the summer. However, I could also get a second hand i7-3770 for like $175 as it fits to my motherboard. Which would be better?
And the other question about graphics card: Should I pick up an RX 570 4GB or get an R9 390/GTX 970(again, these two are second hand). The 570 here costs more than these, and I'm wondering if I should pull the trigger.

x370 has more ports and more PCI-e lanes as well as potentially support for crossfire/SLi. b350 supports overclocking as well, so you don't NEED to go x370 if you want to overclock.

Install two >1.8mm/H2O pressure rated fans in the front. Ignore the air flow rating, since it's not as important as how forcefully the fans can move air from the tiny front intakes. Jesus christ, the prices for psu's in greece are so fucked.
Trying to put up a Ryzen 5 1600 build together and i need a good cheap PSU that won't fry my shit up.
From what i've read corsair makes pretty shitty cheap psu's atm like for example the VS series even tho everyone in the comments give them positive feedback.
To give a general idea of the build i'm going for a b350 mobo r5 1600 3200mhz 2x8gb ram rx580 8gb or rx vega(if that turns out to be a worthwhile budget option) 1 ssd and 1 nvme.
Budget for psu is about 50-80euros i made a quick pic with a list of popular psu's in greece and source is http://www.skroutz.gr/c/30/psu-trofodotika/f/405607/%CE%91%CF%80%CF%8C-501W-%CE%AD%CF%89%CF%82-650W.html?order_by=pricevat&order_dir=asc which is a price comparison website in greece.
From what i've gathered in most ryzen builds with an rx 580 which appears to be watt hungry i'll probably need a 600-650W psu.
Would greatly appreciate a piece of good advice on psu's i'll be stuck with this build for a long time, also don't care about power bills so the plus certificates don't really matter.

Also the price difference between 570/580 is minimal in greece because fuck my taxes up going to pay 300euros for my rx 580 8gb when americans buy them for 220dollars which equals to 200euros, absolutely retarded

In real world, yes. In synthetics, no.
2.3Gb/s write speed, 5 times higher than the 850 Evo's 448MB/s.
But real world performance is the same - as with any NVMe in a desktop PC outside of being used for a scratch disk.

Is there a benchmark showing OCd ryzen7 vs OCd 7700k where the graphics cards are the rx480 and the gtx1060. A bunch of games though not just one. I'm mainly looking at witcher 3, GTA. My most played game is overwatch but that will get over 144 fps easily cause I play it on low.

Oh I missed the 4k part.
Obviously a Ryzen 6 or 8 core, then. No question. The minimums are way better. Smoother, more consistent. That shows up more without 7700k's generally higher max frames skewing the average up more.

where hardware unboxed uses an OCd 6700k

and then comparing it to this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E36vwoQrIsE
where this joker guy has an OCd 1800x

would be interesting to see what hardware unboxed does with the 580 as that would be more relevant than their 5 month old video.

>>60411507
Also this seems quite interesting. A 17 fps min is literally trash. I do expect to get a 4k monitor and play AAA games on that whereas the 1080p144hz will be mostly for shooters or mobas which are piss easy to run anyways.

>>60411559
I'm seriously considering selling my 6700k now for something that will be a lot more future proof. Also I have dabbled in streaming and the 6700k just doesn't cut it for 1080p60.

Now the question is whether to settle for the 1700 and hope for a good dice roll or go for the 1800x. The only problem being where to sell the 6700k+mobo+cooler.

>The Be Quiet one.
After checking some reviews and some replies on tom's hardware it appears to be of questionable quality
>Or the Thermaltake
Found people complaining about it dying after 3 years of use which is funny considering it died right after their warranty was over.
I'm actually leaning towards the thermaltake right now considering at least everyone seems to agree that at least for the first 3 years they had 0 issues but still i wouldn't mind paying +20-30euros for a more reliable option. Maybe i should just get a supernova and get it over with but i'll go over budget with that and generally the idea of spending over 100euros for a psu just doesn't sit well with me considering this is a budget build i'm working on.
>>
>>60411740
Also note these benches aren't with OC, so the 1800X has a clock speed handicap
>>
>>60411642
You can sometimes find 1800X for sale at around $420. That's not a bad price. I wouldn't pay the $500 or $470 or whatever for one, though.

>and then comparing it to this video:
Yeah can't really do that due to different RAM speeds.
Those results look fine for the 1060 on Ryzen there, though. It seems like the problem is just in DX12/Vulkan/Gameworks except for some other few cases. Most of the time you can choose an alternative to DX2/Vulkan in the the settings.

>>60411740
Best 1800Xs do better than 4.1. 4.1 on them is pretty average. There's people getting 4.15-4.25 at 1.4v or less.

>>60411767
Well the 550RM is the one there I'd get if you want to spend more, I'm just not really sure it's worth twice the cost. M12II are almost as good but they do occasionally die or start whining for some people, too.
>>
>>60411740
I've got a 290x currently. Kinda like a slightly shittier 480. I will probably hold off on vega until the third party guys release some nice stuff.

desu I would even consider waiting until black friday to upgrade everything cause that is when the best deals come.
>>
>>60411402
Both of those CPUs are overkill for a 480/1060 tier card. You'll be gfx card limited in both cases at normal settings.

If you are absolutely obsessed with high framerates, an OC'd 7700K is better because it has plenty of threads and stronger single core performance.

>>60411143
In most current games, the 7700K wins. Even though the R7 1700 and the 7700K are priced similarly, they aren't really direct competitors. The 1700 competes against Intel's lower clocked workstation CPUs like the i7 5930K.

>>60411073
None of that. For "daily computer" which I assume means shitposting, you could get the G4560 and drive both your monitors.

>>60410614
Unless you have a 1440p monitor, drop to 1060 6GB or 580 4GB. Consider swapping to R5 1500X if that stats program supports multithreading.

>>60410574
Drop to 1500X unless you do video editing or something. That RAM may not work with Ryzen. Start here:
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/CmDHxr
You can save yourself money by getting an SSD later.

... because a scratch disk is exactly what NVMe is useful for for desktop users. You'll notice the difference a lot by assigning scratch disk to it for photoshop, video editing, and so on. But for no other purpose.

Aye, i use my NVMe for games with huge maps like world of warcraft, it sure feels good getting rid of that loading screen. Also for maximum benefit from your NVMe you should use it with another ssd which has your windows so you can get full read/write speeds from your NVMe considering it's write speeds are halved when it reads/writes onto itself and is much more useful when it reads or writes from/to something else.

It does, but to really get the most our of it, I boot four VMs simultaneously from a 960 EVO, one virtual desktop for another room, one virtual desktop for my use, one proxy server for both VDs, and one maintenance/sandbox VM. Doing this on a single SATA SSD takes as long as loading one machine on a regular 7200rpm drive, but moving them into the same NVMe means that I get practically the same amount of performance as if I had loaded them from four separate SSDs.
Before that, I was using the same drive as a primary application/program drive, which makes running and closing software much faster, especially if you're doing multiple things at once (like opening a virtualbox VM and closing a web browser, and indexing local files at the same time). Put the same load on a SATA SSD (like my old 850 PRO) would cause it to delay performing one operation while the others were running. SATA is a bottleneck for handling multiple requests onto a fast SSD, NVMe/PCIe is full duplex, thus can handle multiple operations at once without delay.

From one side to the other, in the case, there's 271mm space, so say 270mm in case of poor method of measureing.

An Hyper 212 evo is closer to low end coolers, while h60 is closer to a high end. Possible but you wouldn't go very far considering you're overclocking on eight cores.
Any cooler ranging between $60 - $70, may it be an air cooler or a water cooler, is good

Kabylake-x is Kabylake on higher base clocks (and kabylake is skylake on higher clocks...), it's not really worth it. Unless you think the extra 100MHz base clock (boost left unchanged) of the 7740k is worth it or something (it isn't)

That build does look good for cad & arma but why the $150 PSU?

Is cooler master evo 212 still the best budget/performance CPU cooler?

Why 32GB though? Do you actually make use for it?

Probably gonna go for 16 gb. You're right I don't need it.

>The h60 is a good cooler but a noctua dh-15 (air cooler) actually comes ahead of it.

I'll look into the noctua! Thanks!

yup, mostly a /b lurker. Never been on /g. Didn't wanna go to reddit for pc advice.

Help me upgrade /g/. I currently have 500$ to spend.
I have a 5 year old toaster, it's a duo core with an ati radeon HD 5670 and 5gb of ddr2 ram. It doesn't support higher ram.

Should I use 150$ to upgrade it? A q9650 and a gtx 750 2gb 128-bits.
Or should I sell the damn thing and get a new PC at second hand?
If so what can I get? ...

Even the stock cpu cooler works well for ~3.8Ghz safe OCs
>>
>>60415168

It has the lowest ripple current in the industry, 12 year warranty, and will be silent even under gaming loads.
>>
>>60414369
Maybe yours is busted. Mines real quiet.
>>
>>60415321
Finding used old gen i5s for pretty cheap isn't that command. You could definitely buy an used i5, used mobo & used GPU for under $400 total

>>60415345
>~3.8Ghz safe OCs
No, not safe OC. Sure, you can OC to 3.8GHz & play somes games with it, but if it reaches full load (two video encodings at the same time, stress test, etc etc), it will reach 75+°C and keep climbing
If the CPU overheats at full load after some time, it's not a safe OC. Safe OC would be able to run it at full load for days without any thermal shutdown nor overclock instabilities

a hyper 212 is pretty old, get a noctua d14.

I'm on ultra budget. Can I reuse a old prebuilt PSU for a new rig? It has the right connectors on it, but a lot of people say that they'll blow up and take the rest of the computer with it at some point. Is that just a meme?
>>
what is the benefits of pci ssd? besides avoid the cancer that is sata

>>60415600
what psu? bad idea cos no warranty
>>
>>60415600
There are many memes in PC building that aren't true. Unfortunately, exploding PSUs aren't a meme.
I'd look at the watt and amp ratings first, but if it's running it close and the model isn't reputable, I'd ditch it. You can get reasonable quality PSUs for $20.
>>
>>60415600
No, when PSU dies it is very likely it will burn down at least some some components. The only question is time.
I wouldn't trust any "prebuild psu" to work even a day beyond the warranty on that prebuild.
>>
so i'm in need of a graphics card, and there is a guy on craigslist selling a ASUS GTX 1080 for $425. should i buy this second hand card? anything wrong with buying second hard cards?
>>
>>60415812
Yes.
If it has any problems at all, you're SOL. No warranty. Assuming it even turns on.
Craigslist is full of scams. At least with Ebay you can check reputations.
>>
>>60415812
Generally I don't recommend buying used because a lot of the time the price people want on ebay and shit isn't worth it but that does seem like a good deal. Check if ASUS transfers warranty between buyers, if they do and it's still under warranty (I don't know what ASUS has for warranties, if they have over a year warranty it still will be considering 1080 only came out a year ago) you should grab it, worst that could happen then is something goes wrong you can RMA it.
>>
>>60415905
I just checked, Asus doesn't transfer warranties between buyers. I'd stay away, not worth it.
>>
>>60415321
Probably go with a G4650 or an I5 unless you really need an i7.
>>
>>60415733
So "quality" PSUs ruin shit when they die too? Fuck my life.
>>
I fell for the SSD meme, and holy shit amazing.

My G4560 gaming rig boots up and shuts down so quick, as soon as I press shutdown 5 seconds and it's off.

Fuck me, it's amazing, first time it happened I was like wow man, technology! I don't save anything to it, just leave my OS and programs on it since I don't want it to die within the next few years so trying to prolong the life as much as possible, so trying to do as little read/write
>>
>>60416125
You really don't have to worry about your SSD dying on you. Depending on which one you got they can be very reliable and will last you as long as if not longer than a hard drive.
>>
>>60416042
I used to have Zalman 1000W-HP, on release it was probably one of the very best PSUs available
Used to have, until it died and crippled my motherboard, cpu and/or ram (it boots but bsods on heavy load now)
That system was about 10 years old at that point and it happened on the week R5 was released so I'm not mad but I'm glad none of my HDDs were affected
>>
>>60416042
No, the other poster is incorrect. Any PSU worth its salt will shut down long before it explodes, and even if by some miracle it does, it will function as a fuse to protect the rest of your computer.

These protections, or at least some of them, can be missing from bottom-of-the-barrel, OEM units.

Samsung 840 Pro

And nice that's good to hear, it's the only thing that prevented me from upgrading earlier.do you know a program I can use to see the health and read write speed of my SSD.
>>
At what point in overclocking do the quality or presence of VRM heatsinks play a big role?
I've read that if you're only taking a 1600 for example, to 3.6 or 3.7 GHz then even boards without them are good enough. And that only when going 3.9 GHz and over should you start to worry about them.
I'm deciding on a mobo to pair with my 1600 with mild overclock and am set on the Asus PRIME B350-PLUS right now. There's some cheaper alternatives though without heatsinks which seem okay if I don't plan to go beyond 3.7 GHz in the future.
>>
>>60416125
Wait until you take full advantage of the 10Gb/s ethernet meme.
I've got a proxy cache server and NAS all running on a 10Gb network and holy shit does it download cached updates fast. I haven't updated one of my Windows 8.1 VMs since I made it and it downloaded all of the most recent updates (~354MB worth) from the proxy cache in a literal second. The write speed was limited by the SATA SSD I was using for the VM, the proxy cache had an old SM951 I recycled from my editing rig.
>>
>>60416312
>At what point in overclocking do the quality or presence of VRM heatsinks play a big role?
At the point where you overclock beyond what top allowed CPU pulls at stock.

I grabbed a new 2Tb WD Black to put more of my vidya on, does anyone know if/how it's possible to disable this stupid "Preemptive Wear Levelling" shit? Because if not this thing is getting returned tomorrow and I'm getting a brand that doesn't sound like someone is playing basketball inside my case.

Bottom cable is plugged to a sata power from the PSU
The 3 small one are plugged to fans, 3pin (pic related) or 4 pin (same as pic related but wider)

The pic you sent looks like a Sata to 3x3pin cable, because there's not that many motherboard that have a lot of 3pin slots
>>
>>60416857
Sorry for deleting the post I saw the new thread any immediately thought I should put it there...

So the ones with holes go to the "sys_fan" slots and only one of the 3 pins cords is being used?

I ordered a Toshiba P300 and reading more about it, I'm getting very worried about it's reliability and peoples are saying it's loud, despite the reviews saying otherwise. Thing is, I read a 3TB review, I got the 2TB one. Are they build differently enough that the 2TB version would have more issues?
I'm about to cancel desu
