What's a pdf reader which can open large pdf's quickly? I'm opening a 2.6GB pdf in firefox, and it's already using 3.2GB of memory, and it's only half done. It's taken about 10 minutes to get this far. I guess it's loading the whole thing into memory rather than doing it lazily.

I tried chromium and it just made some sad face and didn't get any further. Needs to run on linux, and would be good if it worked on windows too.

Two Asus VG248QE monitors, 1080p @120hz. One connected with DisplayPort, one connected with Dual-link DVI.

Whenever I have video playing or images shown on the second monitor (the non-primary monitor according to Windows) I get massive screen tearing and response time/lag on both monitors. I can move a video to the second screen and immediately start having problems, and if I move it back to the primary monitor the lag and screen tearing stops after a few seconds. It's getting worse now and sometimes I get the lag/screen tearing without videos or images on the second screen.

I did a clean reinstall of my video drivers, my mem/cpu usage is nowhere near maxed out. What should I test to get this fixed?

For 100/100 symmetrical FIOS, does it give you 100DL and 100UL at the same time? As in you can upload 100mb/s while downloading at 100mb/s? All speedtests only do one at a time, and for torrents it seems it only does combined DL/UL = 100Mb/s

$200-300 Build your own celeron machine with a soldered CPU+mobo.

$100-$250 Used sandy quadcore machine. Can have up to 8 sata ports, might need a bigger case. OK power draw. Good performance for other stuff.

$50 c2d machine + $20 xeon off ebay, Decent performance, medicre power draw. The Xeon mod isnt too hard but harder than just installing.

My friend told me that RAMs are sold only in pairs, is that true? Also, if I buy 4GB RAM, will I have any trouble with power source?
>>
>>60273547
a VPN is a type of proxy
you're probably thinking of an HTTP(S) or SOCKS proxy
the main difference is the http(s)/socks just proxies http(s) traffic/arbitrary packets, while a VPN is designed to be a proxy which also effectively joins your machine to the remote LAN

if your intention is just redirecting internet traffic through a remote machine, a SOCKS proxy is all you need, and it's much easier to setup and use than a full VPN

Computer components can't operate at 230V DC, you need to convert it to 5-15V AC somehow. You could have a gigantic converter in some room and feed the correct volatages from it but then you'd have to have a seperate outlet and wires for PC wall plugs that arent compatible with any other devices.

Not to mention that faulty components can fry your PSU, and that huge-ass converter will be quite expensive to replace if it dies because of that.

>>60273892
You'll probably need the runtime then. Just put "python download" to google and pick the correct version from the first link.

For example, if I search for 'weather tomorrow' once and then type just 'weather' into the search bar, it auto completes that to 'weather tomorrow' and searches for that when I hit enter.
What I would like it to do instead is just show the suggestion and let me accept it by pressing the right arrow key for example. But when I just type something and press enter, I want it to search for exactly what I typed.

So my internet connection has been really bad lately. I notice it usually gets this bad during the summer. I think my router is broken or something. It gets REALLY hot. An overheating router can ruin the internet connection, right?

Does a router really matter when it comes to home wifi? I have my desktop computer hooked up to the ethernet port on my router which is connected to my modem. There's other devices running on my network. I'm thinking about getting a $50 router.

Hey /g/, I have an idea but don't know if it's actually possible.
I'd like to build a mouse, but without sensor. Basically just scroll wheel and switches. Where would I find a chip for doing this? I've looked on aliexpress but all of the chips I found are sensors, and none provide the schematics
>>
>>60276447
it would be cheaper and easier to just buy the cheapest chinese mouse you can, and remove the sensor
>>
>>60276353
By internet speed do you mean speed from the modem / router to your ISP, or WiFi speed?

Overheating router can cause performance issues.

>>60276447
For what purpose? Anyway, buy cheap shit mouse, add wires for button/wheel if you want them somewhere else. On cheapo ones sensor and USB controller are often part of the same hybrid chip, so you can't just get the controller.
>>
>>60276479
>>60276477

It'd be for a personal project, i.e wasting time doing something and hopefully have fun / learn something from it, but if I can't build it from scratch then I guess I'll bite the bullet and go for the chink way.
What could be a way to deactivate the sensor without breaking the whole controller? Would taping a piece of black paper under it help?

There's no cash in any of those anyway except for AVs and that market is already saturated.

try connecting your computer to a different port on the router? if it's on wifi try a different channel, try a different wifi adapter, idk, need more information

try this page
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Capture/Webcam

i can't write out the command for you because it depends on lots of things

btw, sound won't work out of the box with this method, you'll have to jump through some hoops for sound probably

XSplit can do that I think

The cam is on /dev/video0, this page shows how to capture the stream.
How do I stream it?
>>60278847
For GNU/Linux?
>>
>>60278799

I guess it's some security option in router, it blocks traffic to external network, but which one.

How would a different channel solve it?
>>
any winapi 'frame builder' like the one Qt has or te one Eclipse has for Java...?
>>
>>60278902
run this:
ffmpeg -f v4l2 -list_formats all -i /dev/video0
decide what quality and stuff you want then build a command line that looks something like:

ffmpeg -f v4l2 -framerate 25 -video_size 640x480 -i /dev/video0 output.m3u8

but using the options you chose in the previous step, this should start creating hls segments in the current directory, you can then serve the directory with any old http server, even (python -m SimpleHTTPServer, although note that it's single threaded)

then point a media player at the url for the output.m3u8 file and it should start playing
>>
>>60278902
ffmpeg works on linux, not sure if linux distributions with GNU in their name let you do that

Found pic related (Focus FK-5001) in perfect working condition at an electronics store and I'm currently using it as a main keyboard, but the side F keys just seem to do the same thing as the top row ones when pressed. Is there a way to differentiate them and assign macros to them?

Thanks, but this creates video files.
I want to stream it in real time
>>
>>60279098
is a 5-10 second delay not good enough?
>>
>>60279122
Not if you decide to check after an hour or so.
>>
>>60279157
i don't understand
just to clarify, my method does let you stream, yes it creates video files but you can watch them as they're being created, you don't need to kill ffmpeg to watch what it's recorded, it'll be a live stream, the format is literally called http live streaming (HLS)

or is the issue that you want "real time" and a delay of 5-10 seconds is not good enough? if so, what is good enough? < 1 second?

>>
>>60279224
Don't get me wrong, your methods works great.
If you want to stream something for few minutes.
But what if I wanted to check the stream after say two days?
The stream would play from the beginning.
Not to mention this would use up disk space if I leave it for long period of time.

Would've worked better if I posted the picture that was related I guess.
>>
>>60279281
you're mistaken, that's not the case at all, yes you can do that as well, but i'm pretty sure the default is that you'll see video 5-10 seconds older than when you started playing, and it's not the default you can specify it, that's the way i used it

about the diskspace, yes you're right about that, but you can pass a flag which lets you specify that you want to delete old segments

it's the hls_flags option called "delete_segments" (i can't link the docs because 4chan thinks i'm a bot)
>>
What are the main differences in PHP between print and echo?

>>
>>60279403
echo can take multiple parameters and has no return value. print can only take one parameter and always returns 1
>>
>>60279396
typo
i meant "if it's not the default you can specify it" on the first line
>>
>>60279396
>you're mistaken
How?
I've tested it.
I've opened it from phone and the playback started from the beginning.
>it's the hls_flags option called "delete_segments"
That's why you think it's 5-10 sec delay.
You're deleting the old segements so when you play the stream it start from the oldest segment which is at most 10 sec.

How do I get the following in OpenOffice? Etc with custom quantity numbers and clickable hyper links?

http://urlid=1
http://urlid=2
http://urlid=3
>>
>>60279479
if you look at the output.m3u8 file
note it only lists 5 segments, the latest 5

it also has a sequence number, each sequence of the playlist corresponds to a different list of segments

playlist with sequence 0 would contain segments 0 through 4
sequence 1 would contain segments 5 through 9 etc...

so if the playlist is at sequence 1, segments 0 through 4 are not being referenced and any new player won't know they exist and therefore won't try to fetch and play them
>>
>>60279439
Couldn't you just concatenate strings and different parts together in print?
>>
>>60279562
>the latest 5
For me it doesn't.
I lists every segment ever created.
>>
>>60270594
does this mean that my wifi has been always on?
>>
>>60279613
that is what the current docs say so maybe you have an older version of ffmpeg where the behaviour is different

try adding the argument "-hls_list_size 5"
>>
>>60279669
That seems to solve it.
But I'd prefer if it stream it with zero latency.
Like how you run
mpv tv://
>>
Is there a way to play something through speakers/out loud even if you have headphones plugged in?
>>
>>60279699
you can reduce the latency by specifying a smaller list size and segment length

but sorry i can't help you with getting zero latency, never looked into it much

I'm running a ffmpeg job overnight. The temps are steadily climbing, and are now at 85C. Obviously the long term solution is buy a better cooler and redo the termal paste, but for *right now*, without interrupting the job, how can I *safely* downclock my CPU without risk of crashing my PC (so that the job doesn't stop and lose its progress)?

if you make your gpu 5% faster you will probably get 5% more fps

I've never been an apple user but I got a free ipad so I figured why not give it a try. I've played around, learned the niches about ios but it still doesn't pique my interest.

Some of my apps are on ios, many of my favorite ones are gone with no ios equivalent, some apps have decent ios alternatives, in the end it just still feels odd.

I just dont particularly enjoy using it, even with all the apps I'd consider that i need it feels like what, this is it? This is what I've been hearing shills praise for all these years? It just feels very bare yet not minimalist, yet convoluted in the wrong spots. Some stuff is nice and sleek, other tasks are so convoluted it's a pain. Is there something i'm missing or should I just sell the ipad?
>>
>>60280285
lol, depending on what it is, suspend the process, let your cpu cool down then resume it
>>
>>60280359
This is not going to work. It has ran for less than an hour and it's already at 86C. It has to run for at least another 12 hours. I need to underclock my CPU. It's an i7 3770 if that matters.

your cpu will throttle automatically when it gets too hot (105 degrees) i think
>>
I think I should redo the termal paste job because some tiem ago I removed the CPU cooler to put some new RAM but didn't redo it.

Since then, temps have gone up and down costantly, but there hasn't been any problems so far. Right now it went from 40ºC to 45ºC on idle.

What termal paste should I get? I know it really doesn't matter, but I'm sure some of you have had better experiences with some brands or another.

So there was an error when I tried to save shadowplay footage, and the video didn't save as normal.
I do have the temp files however so I'm wondering how I should go about turning them into a useful video format. Simply opening them up in a video player doesn't work

Is Plex for a home server any good? If not, what would you install instead? I would like to download torrents remotely, and access my file system, streaming my files anywhere I am. Can I also access files from other places on my network?

have you tried eliminating your gpu?

by trying to use an on board gpu or something?

yeah you can access your plex stuff on the LAN or remotely

i stopped using it because unless it can properly find and match metadata for your content it's pretty useless, i started using a http file server instead lol, super basic but it works and there's guaranteed to be no transcoding

if you're just going to use it for american tv/movies then you're probably golden
