>>60079545
They have been bundled with at least two different ear buds. There original ones were awful, the usual ear bud sound signature with extreme distortion on moderate listening levels and complete absence of bass. It wasn't exactly smooth in its pass band either. The EarPods are much improved on the originals, having an octave or so more bass, lower distortion throughout and decently flat response for the type of device they are. They are one of the best ear buds you can get even now. Bass extension is still really lilited because they don't seal the ear canal and are ported in design. People keep calling them both bassy and nobass so I'm guessing their performance varies from a lot depending on who's using them. Which version do you have and does it it sound bassy to you? Be precise in what you think they lack.

Did they derive that "ideal" consumer sound from equal loudness contour at speech levels? That's a ridiculous target response.

>>60083962
They are a literal description of frequency ranges, a very simplified look to frequency response. Lows or bass frequencies are roughly from 20 Hz to 200 Hz, mids from 200 Hz to 2000 Hz and highs or treble from 2000 Hz to 20000 Hz. These basically cover the audible spectrum of sound. Sound signature is the relative loudness of the frequencies, it's what makes the audio gear sound like it does. As an example, a bassy sounding headphones would mean that low frequencies(20Hz to 200 Hz) play louder relative to the rest of the frequency spectrum(200Hz and up) even if the signal sent to the headphones was flat. This phenomenon where audio devices alter the original signal is called coloration. Altering the frequency response is known as linear distortion.

>>60084161
It's a very subjective question. Which model is that? Beats vary a lot and people here go all dumb when they are mentioned.

>>60084382
No, headphones don't work like that. They just omit most of the positional cues out from stereo sound and what's left is altered by the frequency response. Calling stereo soundstage 3-dimensional is a bit of a stretch anyway. Try listening to binaural recordings. It doesn't get any more "3D" than that and it works the best on headphones.

>>60084441
Can't wait.
>>
>>60084501

I'm looking for headphone advice. I own a pair of B&W P5s (see image). I really like them, and for most things they are perfect.

But for certain times I find the sound isolation insufficient. Namely, when I'm trying to meditate, I still will hear the sounds of noisy neighbors.

So I want headphones that can give me as close to a sound free environment as possible. I don't care so much about fidelity since I'm mostly going to be using these for listening to binaural beats and stuff.

I'm looking for something under $100 and over-the-ear, if possible. Thanks!

K702 sounds natural and musical to me, then I don't know which improvements HD600 can bring to me to make me forget about my K702. I don't consider K702's soundstage as its strongest point. So far my K702 is still working well, the only strange thing I notice is a light noise coming from the right driver whenever I turn up the volume while a song is playing. It's not a big deal desu.
>>
>>60084921
That wasn't me.

My 600's go incredibly loud and they don't suffer from this mysterious problem in the highs at a certain point on the dial. Enjoy your over sized separate powered device though.
>>
>>60084988
>then I don't know which improvements HD600 can bring to me to make me forget about my K702

It's something that's really hard to explain. I've owned quite a few good headphones and the 600 just sounds correct with everything, besides bass heavy music if you're an absolute fiend. The 702's are brilliant but they're thin and overly bright compared to the 600. Vocals are nowhere near as good for a start. The ayylmao bars over the top of akgs don't help either but obviously we don't really care at this point listening to music in our own homes.
>>
>>60084988
K702 has too many flaws IME. HD600 has flaws but its flaws are not really much of a problem (sub-bass roll-off, dip in treble, slight mid-bass emphasis).
>>60085160
K702 is very seal dependent, to my ears they have more bass / lower midrange than HD600 and sound muffled as a result.

Yes, they're a good choice.
The broadband isolation for XPT100 is -20 dBr. It's -35 dBr for MC3 and even greater for MC5.

XPT100 don't provide isolation for low frequencies. No closed headphones do that passively. You will need ANC for that and it's supposedly only good for constant noise like when you're on a plane.
MC3 and MC5 provide isolation for the entire spectrum.

So I got the HD 598 Cs because i'm a faggot that likes closed headphones for PC use. But music sounds terrible with it. Either really muddy or all I can hear is the treble.

Supposedly the 3.5mm cable that comes with it is more for phones, which could explain it. I've got an adapter for the 6.35mm cable it also came with on the way.

Should I even be plugging it into the PC directly? A few people have suggested a USB DAC in between would solve the music issue almost immediately.

why/when would I need it?
don't worry, I'm going to read about it as I post this
>>
>>60086398
>>60089509
Generally 4 options:

1)Bundle the cable using a cable tie, twist tie, or velcro cable tie.
2)Loosely braid the cable. This may make your cable look like crap if you decide to unbraid it (may leave temporary or permanent kinks).
3)Modify your current cable and make it shorter.
4)Purchase a shorter cable, if your headphones have a removable/replaceable cable.
a
I personally just use velcro cable ties on my long cables, with the bundle resting somewhere on my desk, where it wouldn't interfere with anything. Also, it's a good option if you occasionally need the extra length.

Budget is $300. The more shit you put in your post the less likely it is even read. So oppo is a bit out of range though if they are extrodrianary then it can be considered. I guess the real question is how would the meze 99 stand because I keep hearing they are muddy shit, but then also hear they are like fostex heaven but a bit more narrow from zreviews.

For $300 are there any better options maybe?

Zeos is fried.

MSR7 if you want neutralish, or MDR1A for bassy, Sennheiser Momentum 2 are good.
Don't know enough about the Meze to comment.

Oppo will be the best sound quality.

Feel like you'd better served getting an open pair in the $300 dollar range for home use and get whatever closed set around $100 for portable use.
Something like the XPT100, Creative Aurvana Live, M40x, or CB-1.
