audiophiles: $2000 headphone listening setup with amazingly stupid snake oil shit like tubes, talking how they "hear that analog warmth" from their FLACs

audio professionals in the past 15 years: using speakers for final mastering/mixing, using cheap <$100 headphones for details, everything is made digitial entirely and released as .wavs, final listening done on cheap speaker / usb audio interface setup

explain this

This adapter I use to connect my headphones to things keeps breaking. Does everyone else just put up with it since they're so cheap to replace? I feel like I go through enough of them that I may as well just buy some sort of amp. Or is there some sort of diamond coated gold infused super adapter that doesn't break that everyone uses that I'm not aware of?

Listened for a few days and decided to return these. On the plus side, they do sound better than my Bose noise cancelling headphones, but that's probably not saying much. I'm disappointed by:

1) Comfort - They are too tight and squeeze your head (not adjustable)
2) Bass - I understand these are supposed to be accurate without having more bass than was intended in the music, but when you listen to something called Bass Cannon and still hear almost no bass there's a problem.
3) Appearance - They look like $30 gaming headphones, no style at all

>>

I hate the bumps, but the headphones are pretty /comfy/ without them.
>>
>>60039339
Should be good if the headphone stuff is hooked up to the real amp in the thing and not a fifty cent separate headphone amp board that some of those receivers have. If your motherboard has SPDIF, you don't even need anything fancy to hook it up, just an rca cable.
>>
Heads up to gaymers
>Any headset = shit audio
>Modmic = $50, shit audio, limits your headphone options
>BM800 + Phantom Power + Arm = $30-$40, much cleaner and crisper audio good enough for amateur radio or /v/ the musical; can use with any setup as long as you have a desk or table

>>60039224
Highly rated of course..... that's why I bought these. After spending hours checking on good open back headphones. My thought is that they just don't offer the correct response of the bass. And bear in mind, I didn't want headphones that overdo or color the bass signal although these I think just do not offer the real response.

Agreed on the bass, though an eq does wonders for bass heavy music. In terms of comfort, you can bend the headband by the metal and make them comfortable in fucking seconds. Appearance is a matter of taste, you can think that they look like shit, but they do't look anything like gamer headphones.

Remember, you're not allowed to have an opinion on anything unless you have a $20,000 measurement rig and the measurements to back it up.

First time on this board. I'm looking for wireless over-ear headphones with active noise cancelling and decent battery life. Looking to spend around $200.

Would be nice if I could still use them when the battery dies. I don't care if they have a mic or not because it'll be shit anyways.

I use the Logitec G230 at home and I like they way they sit on my head and engulf my ears, the sound is ok.
>>
Are the over-ear pads supposed to press on your ear or completely go around them?

If you love these, you love them. I didn't. I found them uncomfortable due to the narrow edge of the ear cushions pushing into my head. They should take a lesson from AKG and Beyerdynamic for comfort. Also, headphone technology has moved on from this model.

>>60039224
These are uncomfortable. Straight out of the box these things squeezed my head like I owed them money. Two weeks later - after having a yoga block wear them overnight - the clamping force has gone down a *bit*, but the ear pads are still digging into my head. The upper cheek bone near my ear canal aches as I write this, but is tolerable in comparison to the headband on these headphones. These don't have a $400, $300 or even $100 (the Beyerdynamics are $100-$150) headband. The headband is so poor that if I actually first handled these in person I wouldn't have made the purchase. It's so bad that when they showed up I had to double check Amazon and Sennheiser's website for photos to verify that I wasn't holding some bootleg cans. The cheap, plastic headband employs just four thin, tiny bits of foam to rest on the head. Not even memory foam or some other kind of gentle but responsive material, just thin little strips of generic foam wrapped in polyester that, even after just 15 minutes, dig into the top of my head like a noogie that won't stop. These are uncomfortable to wear for any reasonable amount of time, and downright painful after a short while. I can't imagine how bad it gets when the foam wears out. Really disappointing.

Sennheisers have those stupid proprietary locking mechanism, I'm in EU and here SHP9500 cost $115 (€105), and I'd avoid Superlux because I've read they're not that comfortable. Clip on a Neweer $3 mic to your cable and buy $77 headphones. You could even DIY it to stick out in front of your face liek a normal headset.
Or maybe just buy a standalone $5 headset the kind telemarketers use. Usually they have only one earpad but some have none at all.

For mics, desk mics usually sound better with exceptions of some headsets like HyperX Clouds, a few headsets from Audio Technica and probably a few other gems I can't remember atm. If you need a nice cheap desk mic that 'just werks', BM800's pretty good. If you have a decently wide budget within $100 for a mic, AT2020 or Samson Meteor. If you absolutely need one attached to your headphones, Zalman ZM1 (Very sensitive and just werks), Vmoda BoomPro (Very good mic, attaches via detachable 3.5mm in hradphones) or a Modmic though that's a bit overpriced desu.

I borrowed these from a friend, who bought them new and had hardly used them. Frankly, I get more pleasure listening with my Sony MDR-W20G sports headphones that I bought for less than $10. I am at a loss to understand the glowing reviews. I would love to hear a headphone that sounds as wonderful as people are describing. But the one I heard did not. Not even after break-in. Never would I consider one of these phones without auditioning them. Perhaps I truly heard a rare, defective unit. But if so, both drivers were defective, because they sounded the same.

I think I'm going to get a jotunheim. I switch the d3 DAC I was using for my speakers to my tv and need something to replace it as well as just having a all in one solution for my comp. Seeing as how the preout on the jot doesn't mute when you plug a jack into it, it just might be perfect. Was also thinking of the nfb-11 as it has a preout/headphone out switch but I'd rather not deal with its driver issues and the jot allows me to fall for the balanced meme later on if I want
>>
>>60042737
I'm not a fan of overear IEMS (the ones that wrap aroudn the top of your ear, not like headphones), so it would really boil down to the SoundMAGIC E10 because those are the only ones I see through amazon. I should have mentioned that's whatt I'll be using to buy it.

Do you have any more suggestions knowing that I'll be using amazon and I prefer in ear and not over ear?

>>
>>60042935
>I think I'm going to get a jotunheim.
I wouldn't right now.

My reasoning is that, while the amp itself is probably fine, the "balanced DAC" is bound to get a multibit upgrade soon. Jot's also been around for a while so I kinda expect a jot2 with multibit DAC option so that you can go full meme, and lowered prices for balanced DAC and the jot1, so that you can save money.

Obv, I can be totally wrong, but I'm hearing "multibit balanced dac" screams.

Suggested stopgap is just a Fulla 2, as that does more or less do what you want. The "fixed DAC" preout does definitely not mute when you plug in headphones. The variable one likely does.

Another anon couple months ago sold his 518's and AD500X's in favor of his HE-350's so I'll just parrot what he said about them since I'm too poor to have anything good. At stock config, they're comparable to 500X's with them being somewhat bright and bass sitting in the background while still present. With them bass port modded (peeled sticker), they're like 518's without being muddy.

W-what are we going to do on the pillow onii-chan waaa pomf
My unboxings include just my initial impressions, however once you start listening side by side you do start to notice things that you wouldn't otherwise. As they say ignorance is bliss.
Let's see comparing them to the 650s I would say the he350s(mind you I did mod them a little) are more bassy. Not that you can't pick out the bass line on the 650s, just that you have to wade though a lot of midrange to hear it. Both seem more or less equally veiled on the top end. 650 more detailed thoughout, I start picking up a tad bit mud on the 350s. 650s sound more open. Essentially to me it sounds like you're trading midrange for bass on the 350s.
650s sound better, I would prefer them more.

Might as well have bought 668Bs because they rape you with treble. Sennheiser was right, headphones need to be veiled. Even live treble is tiring and thats with proper acoustics. A mic recording close to the violinist and playing that back right in your ears, ouch

I live in Australia, and am looking at buying a pair of headphones for up to a max of about $100 (AUD)

Just go read through the billion comments on Massdrop. Hifiman (chinks) and Massdrops (jews) basically just conned a few thousand people out of their money. Specifications don't match, headphone sounds like ass, and comfort is worse than bargain bin headphones. Anyone that still has something good to say about the headphones are making post purchase rationalizations or are more or less deaf. I don't feel I have enough experience in the $100 range to really compare these to a true competitor. I would recommend them over the other 4 that are boxed. The Phillips would come so very close to beating them, depends on if you want base or not. Better highs then the 668bs, better designed then the 500x, more base then the 9500s, that the 518s should be.
Compared to the other assdrop offerings they're the worse of the bunch, but likewise also the cheapest.

I wouldn't describe their highs as shill and after the mid the bass picks up a lot. But hay if you do know some cheap monoprices that sound better let me know the model and I'll pick it up to compare. I'm most definitely not adverse to chinkshit.

Ideally they would be as safe as they can be, with no breaking parts so the nozzle doesn't get stuck in my ear if they break.
Also sturdy to survive me falling asleep on top of the cable and pulling and tugging at it.

That's pretty much how Schiit does tubes. Lyr2, Vali2 or Valhalla.
>>

Your budget screams Sennheiser HD599.

You can't go wrong with these, they're all rounders, insane value for the money, comfortable and very close to HD600 in FR.
>>
>>60047767
At 250 you can get HD600s refurb/used and have enough left over for a spare set of pads. No sense in buying a HD599.

He is memeing about design issues that plagued original Valhalla and Lyr during on/off cycle if you had headphones plugged in. Lyr did some damage, Valhalla might have. These issues are fixed and they don't apply to their other products or the new revisions.

>>60046290
Valhalla 2, Lyr 2 or Vali 2

Lyr has lower Zout and it's extremely powerful. According to Schiit both seem to have respectably low levels of distortion with Lyr being the better one here too at worst case 0.01% THD and 0.01% IMD.

>>60046323
Any good tube amp has extremely low levels of distortion.

My waifu wants to buy noise canceling headphones for me because I once talked about it. I talked about the Bose ones with noise canceling and she wants to buy them for me. (QuiteComfort 25) but I want to know, are there better ones that are cheaper? I don't want her to spend that much money on me.
>>
>>60047887
Well, I gave some NEW recommendations.

USED opens a new world of possibility.

Owning HD600, I can't see myself selling them, *ever*. So I never even thought about that.
>>

get t50rp's and mod them, 10x better than x2's

Schiit Vali 2, its a hybrid so you get low distortion and its only 170$ if you want to fuck around with tubes. If you want full on tubes you can go either Valhalla 2 or little dot's but at least 3rd one has quite a lot of QQ issues, ground loop, reliability and it was getting hot. There is also a starving student that costs piss cheap, 35$, but it's DIY.

DESU I would just get Vali 2, it's cheap, its hybrid and it has only one tube so tube rolling won't cost you a fortune.

>>60048718
Depends on what you want but sound quality wise Superlux HD-681 is very nice for the price. HD-668b is also good with notably more V-shaped sound. Samson SR850 is a version with nicer earpads.

These are over-ear, non-isolating headphones that are easy to drive.

>>60048054
Very nice if the headband design works for you. They have very little bass but aside from that the response is close to neutral.
>>
>>60048074
Could someone respond to this please?
>>
>>60047962
Valhalla didn't, its a full tube amp and tube amps need time to both build up a charge and discharge it, only Lyr did.

Mediocre JBL which started to hurt after using them for 1 hour.

And I prefer noise reduction.

Thank you, someone will be with you shortly (i'm just the receptionist here) I think signature is like, where the headphones would excel the most in? Like, they can be bassy or the same with other frequencies. I'll have to look into that again.
>>
>>60048996
Unless you're going used you're not going to get a pair for less then $300

Innerfidelity recommends the jbl everest elite 700 over the quiet comfort 25 at the same price point.

Any suggestions for a simple headphone stand? There's a cheap one on Amazon, anyone try it? Anyone have a cheaper/simpler solution?
>>
>>60051247
I don't see anything wrong with that stand. Headphone stands aren't rocket science. I use pic related myself because the earpads seal to it which makes it impossible for bugs to sneak into the cups.

HELP
I'm trying to decide between the AKG K240s and the Audio Technica M50Xs. From what I've heard they're both cheap introductions to great quality headphones. The K240s are cheaper but should I save more money and get the M50Xs or should I look into something else entirely? Thanks in advance.

Combine it with one of these shits and it won't break nearly as much because it won't protrude nearly as badly: https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-MHE-100-5-Right-Angle-Headphone-Adaptor/dp/B000068O6B/

If you want something analytical for cheap, AKG K240. If you want overpriced memes, M50X. I personally wouldn't buy either.

The one from Amazon is from the same manufacturer on Ali. Youre not buying local if you buy from chink resellers. I bet the one on Amazon doesnt even ship from US and theyll still make you pay shipping for the slow boat from China.

Plantronics gamecom 308 (got them for about $20 at the time)
A retractable or detachable mic would be a nice extra.
