What phone am I supposed to buy right now? This one would have been perfect if it wasn't for this chink logic in it. I really need to change my Xperia Z guys. And I waited for the Mi6 for some time just to get chinked.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here I go.
I have a Mi3 and a Chuwi Hi8 and lately on both of them the Youtube app tends to stutter a lot for no apparent reason, some time even with 480p videos.
Anybody else having problems with it? I assume it has something to do with one of the more recent updates because I never had this problem before.

Looking for a cheap new phone that can run most basic apps. I know stuff like instagram which is a basic app requires certain OSs and certain smartphones can't run it at all. Not sure on other apps off the top of my head, or whether cheap tracfones or straight talk phones will work that way.

What's the cheapest I can do both in price of the phone and plan that can do the most? Thanks in advance.
>>

Not knowing your location (so I don't know whether to recommend chink phones or not), the Moto G series are a good balance of price/specs/software on the cheap. Moto E if you're really on a poorfag budget. Avoid anything below 8GB of storage.

Unless you get conned by you provider or a brick&mortar store to get some overpriced old garbage they need to get rid of, you'll likely never find a case where a mainstream app is not compatible due to an old version of the OS, as most apps target several versions (API levels, in the Android jargon) being 4.1 (from 2012) usually the oldest. Fragmentation is a meme created by Apple, not an actual problem from the consumer side.

They started coming with B20 after the 3S or 4 I think as they noticed they started selling well in other countries outside of APAC. The Mi flagship series are more of a local thing, especially at the beginning. I'd expect an international version or 6S model with B20 though, there's no way they can keep ignoring the European market.

Mid range phones always lack "something" that flagships get, but since some years ago that something are usually nice-to-have features and not basic stuff like not being a lagfest after a year.

Camera quality is one of the first things that bite the bullet in the 200-300€ range. If that's the only "must" you have, the S7 is a good option but maybe you can consider some others in that price bracket like the Honor 8 with dual cameras. Most reviews also post camera comparisons too, so check some before your purchase.

honor 8 is 340+ here, definitely not worth it.

6x is 220.

g5 plus and p9 goes from 250-300, which at that point I kinda am steering on just paying ab it extra.

if I can get a camera thats 85-90% as good as the s7 at the very lower 200s I'd take it. but if it's 300+ then I'll just add another fiddy and get the flagship.
>>
>>59968721
Sensor size has everything to do with image quality, and cell phones really go for the smallest sensors due to limitations on how big the lens can be.

Go for the ASUS Zenphone 3 Zoom. That one seems good. Can shoot raw, 2 cameras one of which is pretty big (4u).

Why not just get a compact camera with a big sensor?

If you have any kind of standards a phone camera will always leave you dissatisfied. Mushy images, bad low light performance, narrow dynamic range.
>>
>>59968808
The Honor 8 IS a flagship though, just not one overdesigned (except for the dual camera stuff) with every single meme feature in existence in order to reach iPhone price points like Samsung or LG do.
>>
>>59968976

no space.

A good camera that's actually an upgrade to a flagship phone is like 500+

I'm not bringing a purse or a fanny pack.

I can't bring a fucking proper camera in a bar, a club or a restaurant without being a weirdo.

Using a camera for taking pictures outside instead of a camera makes me look like some fob foreign fucker from a different eu country.

And again, that shit don't fit my slim fit jeans.

Also I need a new phone.

380 pounds for a camera + phone feels better than 200 on a phone and 400 on a camera.

I used to think the lack of a headphone jack was a dealbreaker. But considering it meets most of my requirements while being half the price of the S8, I'm unironically willing to compromise and buy an adapter. I mean, I don't consume media on my phone that often, so using an adapter is somewhat acceptable, provided that it actually works and isn't overpriced.

The phone will definitely take some time to hit the market in my country, so we'll see in the meantime if there's a better bang-for-the-buck phone coming out. I hope the OnePlus 5 doesn't disappoint.

Interesting, I'd have expected the XL to be more expensive than the smaller 950. The only differences are the larger screen, and slightly faster SoC in the XL. Snapdragon 810 in XL vs 808 in non-XL.

It probably depends on which apps you want to use and what you want to do with it beside taking pictures. I don't really use social media myself, but you've got your Facebook and Twitter apps and I think that's about it. Snapchat and Instragram don't exist on Windows.

>Did 2016 to 2017 make big improvements to windows?
Yes. At launch, Windows Phone 10 was disgustingly full of bugs, stability issues, and what have you, which is likely a big reason for the bad reviews. Throughout 2016 it saw a lot of improvements. It's still not perfect, but it is quite fast and smooth/responsive, works well as a daily driver.

Also what alternatives do I have apart from tasker?

Guys, I'm about to buy a phone. Help me decide between the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Plus (or Prime) or the Xiaomi M5. Here's what I need from my phone:
>reliability
>good digitizer
>great battery life
>5" screen at the most, but I guess I'll tolerate the 5.5", but nothing more
>I want it to be fast

I don't give two fucks about video gaming, I don't play games on my phone. Should I just get the Redmi 4 Pro if I don't really need a lot of power, just smooth multitasking and great battery life?

As someone who's looked at both but know less than the average in this thread about phones:
Mi5 is faster due to higher end SoC, has a larger screen but nearly no bezels on the side making it about 0.3mm less wide than the Redmi 4 (prime). All reviews I've read say that the redmi 4 is the best lasting phone they've tried (asides from battery meme phones like the Oukitel K1000) and that it's plenty fast. Keep in mind that the Redmi 4 / prime has Mi5s in it's base configuration only really has higher end SoC, marginally larger and better screen, USB C, build quality and software support as a pro at up to twice the price.
My own bottom line is that unless I find a lightly used Mi5 (or Huawei P9 which seems pretty much comparable) at less than 200€ I'll just get a redmi 4 prime.
>>
>>59972360
Mi5 will have a price drop once Mi6 is introduced into the market.

>>

>>
>>59972468

Noted, thanks. Anything from chinkland that would undercut even the E?
>>
>>59972565
Sure, I live in Slovakia, plenty of Slovak and Czech shops that carry the unit. I'm getting it for 200 euros, not a bad price, I think. There's an option of getting a 'hardened glass' for it, supposedly it makes the screen much more durable. Should I get it or is it just a meme? I'm getting a flip case for it.
>>
>>59972581
No if you want custom ROM support
>>
>>59972598
Unless you want it immediately, just order that off aliexpress for a euro. Read up on xiaomi.eu how to flash their rom which is an significant improvement - specially since vendors often put their spyware-filled rom in phones not meant to be sold outside of China they resell internationally.
>>
>>59972565
>>59972598
It's actually called a tempered glass. Should I get it if I'm getting a flip case like pic related, or is it gonna be redundant?
>>
>>59972682
I'm actually pretty illiterate in the mobile phone department. Could you explain to me what kinda of significant improvement does it present? Thanks, bro.
>>
>>59972581
The Xiaomi Redmi, but if my own experience is anything to go on, it's not worth it. My brother got a Moto E in 2015 at the same time I got a Redmi 2. I've been having issues with the USB port, cell network connectivity and the touchscreen (just randomly dies), and the camera is not much better than the Moto E despite the extra 3 megapixels (except in very low light where you have a flash). I'm looking towards replace my phone after less than two years of use while the Moto E is still going strong. But then again, the Moto E is hopelessly outclassed and a Snapdragon 200 cannot do sweet fuck all, so it will probably need to be replaced sooner anyways.

I personally wouldn't but I have small hands and focus a lot on the width being minimal - considered the Xperia XA but it's specs like a redmi 4A and priced like Mi5s..

When getting cases note both that the flash is opposite side on the redmi 4A / 4 and 4 prime - so if you get the wrong one it might block the flash (some have a cross-looking cutout to work for both) AND there's two sizes of the redmi 4 prime. Phones produced after january 11 2017 are a tiny bit physically smaller which might cause the case to be a bit loose if it's not meant for that version of the phone.

xiaomi.eu rom adds pic related and some more. Also full Slovak UI which you might be interested in. Check their website and read up on flashing phones.
>>
>>59972882
Oh man, thanks a lot for your help. So getting tampered glass with the case makes no sense, alright. I'll just get the case, and if it's too big/too small/the flash hole is on the wrong side, I'll return it.

And yeah, I will definitely read more on flashing the ROM, it really is a significant fucking improvement.

Thanks again, based anon.

Either this summer or in like December, depends on if they want to wait six months or a full year between 3T. They'll probably say something about it soon so I'd wait a bit longer if you're not in a hurry

I wonder how much it'll cost though. The OP prices have crept up 50 bucks with each phone, starting at 300 and now at 450 with the 128GB 3T. So I'll assume the next one will be 500

If VoLTE is important to you then you are severely restricted in what phones you can get. Sure you can get a phone that is "compatible" with LTE but we're talking full 100% support for all features. Pretty much iPhone or carrier models only.

I used to have a phone I bought outright but it made more economic sense to get one on contract, since I'd only save $10/month ($240 over two years). It used to be $20/month ($480 over 2 years) and at that point it did make sense to bring your own phone.

Country: America
Carrier: T-Mobile
Works, good price:performance, preferably large enough that I don't have to squint. I'm broke as fuck and I was considering the Xiaomi shit but apparently my 4G'd be no good on that, so something alone those lines that I can use I guess?

So does my phone have to checkmark all three networks for my carrier?

I've got koodo and the 3G and 4G LTE work, but not the 2G.
>>
I've never had a flagship phone . Is it insane to spend 900€ on the s8+? I use my phone all the time since I don't have a desktop or a laptop. For once in my life I want something top of the line. Is paying 35€ a month for 24 months with 60€ right now stupid?
>>
So i got a Zenfone 3 Max (ASUS_x008DC) for my birthday. My old phone was a Samsung Galaxy S3. On T-mobile.

How is the performance for this particular phone? Will i need to bloat it with a custom rom or something (its on Android 6.0). Primary use would to read shit and play mobile games while trying to keep the battery life as high as possible.
>>
>>59980694
If you're not using it for VR, I say no.
If you can't buy it in one payment and have money for VR apps, I say no again.
>>
>>59980886
I'm not sure about VR I've never tried it. Basically my phone needs to do everything a computer would do and more.

I'm currently using a Moto g from 2014 and while I can manage with it, I dislike the pictures it takes and I broke off the little table in the headphone jack and Bluetooth doesn't want to play music to my car stereo. So I can't use it in my car to listen to music.

I travel a lot and when I do I travel ultralight with a carry on only. So I don't have room or weight to spare for a laptop or a dedicated camera. I want a phone that lasts long and is still top of the line. My gf has the s6 and it takes really good pictures is the s8 similar or better?
>>
>>59980971
s8 has the same camera as the s7 which is a mildly evolved version of the one on the s6. That said, the s6 is pretty godly for a cell phone camera with a f1.7 aperture, high dynamic range color temperature compensation, and that pitifully small 26mm focal length that translates into super wide angle (human eye sees at around 50mm focal length on a 35mm sensor).

So, all told, it's the best camera you could get on a cell phone... as of a year ago. By the fall, if the iPhone doesn't blow it away, then apple is slipping, though.
>>
>>59980971
the S8 camera is identical to the single-lens shooter on the S7, meaning you won't be getting the advantages of dual lens cameras like the G6 or i7. That's just the /p/ in me.

Regarding doing everything a computer would do, what are you thinking about? Videos and shitposting? $200 phones can do that.

Something else to consider with Samsung phones is the amount of bloatware they force on you with their Android package. I used the Note series until the exploding battery debacle, and always hated the things I couldn't uninstall without rooting.

Thank you for your comprehensive replies. Well we do everything from our phones, book trips , take pictures ,watch movies, listen to music, I do text editing with a keyboard and an otg cable for a couple of /out/ blogs. Of course browsing and shitposting. With the dex feature I think most of this will become easier at least at home. I'm really happy with her phone for most of the heavier tasks like picture editing but I would want a bigger display especially for watching movies and TV. The water and dustproofing would help as well as since the Monsun that caught us earlier this year in Thailand has damaged my phone. Bigger battery can't hurt either that's why I'm opting for the 8+.
>>
>>59980694

I pre-ordered the S8 today to get that VR promotion. Honestly, I wouldn't see any reason to get the Plus, unless you really need it to cover all your bases possible. As far as photos, they're good, but the G6 has a wide-angle lens, and a bit cheaper.
>>
Anyone have any word on the international edition of the Nokia 6?
>>
>>59981230
Yeah, but the minimal battery increase is offset by the larger display. I used to have a Droid MAXX that would last a week of moderate use on a charge. Had a 5400 mAh battery. There's no reason Sammy couldn't have gone higher than the 3500 mAh they chose.

I really wanted the gold S8, but those niggers aren't bringing it to America. So I went with black because, if you pay attention, all the face plates are black. No more different colored fronts for different colored phones. In that event, might as well make em match.

Hey I do, received he ota on 15 April. The phone is so much faster andy battery life has improved a little bit. I haven't run into any quirks yet. Everything is super snappy, the app switcher is a lot faster and a bit touchier. Love every second with it so far.

Doze only takes effect after a long period of no use and no movement, so basically when you're sleeping. I use the app Greenify to force doze quicker than usual and even when it detects movement. Basically it means emails pop up when I turn the screen on instead of notifying me immediately, but the battery life is awesome.

>>59982255
It's probably ok if you go with a reputable seller. I'd check out Swappa. Right now there is just one for sale there but it's a good place in general.

I have an ancient S2 as well, also around 5-6 years old. It took a LOT of beating back when I used it (around 3 years ago) and then my mother used it for another 2 years or so. It seems to work fine but the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore unfortunately... Wish I could get a S2 body with modern specs + bigger screen.
