/g/'s opinion of the Priv seems to be extremely mixed. Some people here love it, others hate it with a passion (although I suspect a lot of the ahte comes from people who have never owned one). I've had one since June 2016 and here is what I can tell you.

The build quality is good, and Blackberry's take on Android is on the whole probably the best out there (stock with just a few minor UI modifications). It's zippy enough in everyday usage but it really isn't meant for gaming or very processor-intensive tasks because heat is an issue and it was not really the fastest pone when released. The hardware keyboard is good, better than most virtual keyboards but not as good as the one on the Classic. Security updates come monthly but OS updates are slow and it probably will not get upgraded past Nougat, if it makes it that far. Camera is decent. Battery life is good but not outstanding.

Overall I like it, has some good bits of nostalgia harkening back to the days of my Bold, but it does have issues and future support is questionable. If I were you, I would wait and get the KeyOne.

My oneplus 3t midnight black (LIMITED EDITION) is waiting for me when I get home. Going to replace the first generation Moto G, which held strong for almost 4 years.

Anyone else hoping for a good midrange chipset to come out soon?

SD625 is kinda slow, SD653 is underclocked overpriced 28nm garbage, SD810 is just plain crap, Mediatek has terrible battery life and even worse support.
I think the sweet spot would be 2xA73 cores at 2.3-2.7GHz to keep the single core perf on par, and 4xA53 cores at 1.6-2GHz for power efficiency, something like an updated SD650/SD808.

SD660 will be close to SD820 in performance but I think it's months away before we start seeing it in phones.

Honestly though what's wrong with SD625/SD650? I think they're perfectly fine for everything but the most demanding games. I like the SD625 especially because it manages to be so power efficient since it's 14nm.

I've seen lag on mid-end phones, my brother's Lenovo has an 8x1.7GHz A53 chipset and yet it occasionally stutters.

The most intense things I do on my phone is have 15-20 tabs of porn+desktop sites open, and play Zynga poker sometimes and yet most non-flagship phones can lag while switching tasks.

>>59661809
The old fabrication process, pretty much. Compare the average battery life of SD625 and SD650/652 phones on gsmarena.

The only phone I'm looking forward to right now is the Mi6, both LG and Samsung have disappointed me big time - LG with the last-gen chipset and cameras which are supposed to be the main selling point, and Samsung with the year old camera, no stereo speakers, retarded fingerprint sensor position and no 1000fps.

1. Does your current [technology thing] fit your needs?

2. Can you live without the new [technology thing] features?

If you answered no to either question, then you can start weighing the pros and cons of upgrading.

Otherwise, save your money and wait until your answers change. This should work for most tech upgrades.

Hey guys I'm looking to upgrade from my iphone 4.

I'm looking for a chink phone. I don't know much about android but I'd like to be able to optimize it for speed and to be able to do things a Apple phone wouldn't let you.

I'm willing to spend a maximum of around ÂŁ400 but I'm liking the look of the ZUK Z2,

I read the huawei phones like the honor 8 haven't got much customization or something?

The One Plus 3T was looking good but I'm not sure if it's worth when the ZUK Z2 is just so cheap and seems almost equal aside from camera.

Is the difference between the ZUK Z2 and the PRO worth the ÂŁ100 difference?

please help I've had this damn iphone for so long because I can never decide on a phone.
>>
>>59662078
Oh my PC has a lot of tabs open as well, usually 25-40, half of which are Youtube. Thankfully I've got 24GBs of RAM on it so it holds up well even with a shitty Xeon.

My phone is atm a 6S and it's holding up surprisingly well as it only has a dual core SOC.
>>
>>59661892

I put on Google Now launcher or whatever it's called and it looks pretty much stock except that it's got a white theme where it's usually black so only visual stuff.

If you want something that can be scratched only by diamonds, but can't hold falling from any height higher than an inch and a half, that has the most retarded location of a frontal camera ever seen on any device, that has a piezoelectric speaker that will make every phone call sound like an AM radio, and that is also a chink piece of shit, then get the Mi Mix.

I'll add that if you're into the lemax 2, you should also look at the Z2. It's about the same price, uses the same chipset, yadda yadda yadda. The big difference is the screen size/resolution, and battery size(so the Z2 should get quite a bit better runtime)

I want to upgrade from my LG G3. Should I wait for the Mi6 and buy it when its released or get a Mi5S now?

Or should I get a Redmi 4X now and wait until later in the year to see what options I have. I guess a Redmi 4X can be resold quite easily, since its so cheap, wouldnt be a big loss.

My G3 keeps rebooting whenever I put a SIM card inside. It will work for a while, then write SIM card removed, reboot, and not find it again until another reboot. Also happens during calls or when I receive texts. I have my SIM card in my old Note 2 now, but I dont always want to tether as the Note 2 is just too old for apps now, even with LineageOS.

Curious, as I've not really used an android phone since an i9000, but if you can root a phone, does that not allow you to remove the shitty aspects of whatever ROM a phone comes with?

I'm in Australia and have been looking at various phones, but some have shithouse alternative ROM support, but if I can unlock, install TWRP, and flash SuperSU, is that really an issue?

I was thinking of getting a Redmi Note 4X, but realise it's too XBOX HUEG for me. A shame, because otherwise the features and price were on point.

I don't really want to spend over $250AUD, so I'm thinking Succ z2 now. Can the shortcomings of ZUI be fixed by rooting? Or would I have to flash Mokee (not particularly familiar with it and unsure of it's reliability).

Rooting lets you install apps like Titanium Backup that allow you to disable/freeze any app you want, not just the ones that they let you disable through the settings.

For phones on Marshmallow or lower, you can install Xposed and then install modules that allow you to customize even more.

The one thing you can't do with a stock rooted phone is change the basic interface elements, settings app, etc. to stock. You can get third party apps to replace all the default ones that the phone ships with, including the launcher, and use Titanium Backup to freeze everything you don't want. But you'll still be reminded of the skin when you open settings or pull down the notification drawer.

>>
>>59664851

Cheers, thanks for the info.

Reading around it looks like efforts to get Xposed running on Nougat, which would make my decision making a lot easier.

I know that Nextbit Robin is an option too, despite it's somewhat flimsy build quality. I'm a fan of it's (admittedly divisive) design, and I think it's running 7.0 now with a 7.1.1 beta available. Though, I would have to buy it from the USA, which bring up warranty concerns. I think Australian Consumer Law covers my ass, but it'd be more of a pain to argue should something go wrong.

That you're giving yourself brain damage, potentiating the development of cancer in yourself and others, and likely slowly rendering yourself incapable of producing viable offspring.

The "point" is that you aren't actually aware of what's happening to you. You don't actually know the nature of your actions and your everyday, with any degree of accuracy. Just remember, belief doesn't make actuality. The universe is not slave to your desires, but rather, the inverse. You won't notice until it's much too late, unfortunately.

Here, do yourself a favor and look into the effect of pulsed fields at ELF to upper microwave frequencies on calcium flux (activation of voltage gated calcium channels), and subsequent increased NO production and generation of peroxynitrite. Look into decrease in pyramidal cell dendritic arborization, altered synaptogenesis, and decreases spine density in hippocampal neurons. Look into increases in blood brain barrier permeability.

This is proven, again and again. You're living a fantasy, and you fools are going to destroy it all.

AMOLED displays are generally better displays, they have richer and better colors with non-existent light-bleed. However, they tend to have pixel burn depending on how you use your phone and for how long you keep it. They also drain more battery.

IPS LCD displays have worse color reproduction and can have light bleed if it's a cheap chink phone. Otherwise they consume less battery and don't deteriorate.

Unfortunately, the Zuk phones aren't fully compatible with the frequencies I require. Thanks though.

I don't know about all of /g/ but I reckon the honor 8 is a top class phone. Nothing on it is bad, and a lot of it is very good.

What should I get?

>Verizon
>S7 Edge for $15 a month
>HTC 10 for $20 a month
>LG V20 for $20 a month

The S7 Edge seems nice, but touchjizz.

The HTC 10 seems good but it doesn't seem to be as good as the other two

I'd get the V20 but I'm afraid of bootloops

I've had absolutely 0 complaints with my LG G5. It was my traveling-through-Asia phone and the expanded storage, wide angle camera and removable battery were godsends. If I end up with the V20 I get all that plus a better DAC, a bigger screen and a bigger battery. Seems like a win-win to me.

What is the most comprehensive guide(can be multiple guides) on optimizing(+batter saving) an phone?

This probably belongs in /sqt/, but...
Is OEM unlocking your phone the same as unlocking it from a carrier?

Im in the market for a tablet with the sole purpose of reading comics.

I don't need internet access or a fast processor as long as the scrolling speeds are smooth.

Can anyone make a recommendation?
>>
I want a phone for the UK. I don't mind paying around ÂŁ300 but it would be cool if I could get something around ÂŁ150, I just want a good new phone that will work.
>>
So regarding the S8, this is what I've gathered as far as the cons:

- Low battery electric charge (3000mAh)
- High price, even for a flagship
- Shit fingerprint reader positioning

Questionable/minor:
- Meme Bixby thing that seems like a worse Google Assistant with an entire button dedicated to it
- Back camera not significantly/at all improved

What do you think? Are you getting one anyway?

>>59672036
yes im getting one

>afraid to have my fingerprint saved by a corporation and probably the government

Should i just tape it over? Maybe there are cases that cover the scanner, btw have you ever seen one like that or one that would cover le 'selfie camera' too?

Not impressed. I might have to save my shekels and hold out for a Pixel 2

6p master race here

After have front facing speakers, true stock android, with solid top of the line hardware build for a $500 price tag launch, why would you want anything else?

This new curved/beveled edges screen are becoming cancer. "muh monkey glass" still fucking scratches like no other and you can put a proper screen protector on curved screens.

Samsung's official battery stats don't show a huge difference, though it remains to be seen how the real life battery life is
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/03/30/how-samsung-battery-stats-galaxy-s8-s8-plus-compare-s7-s7-edge/

Yeah, agree

>Bixby
I feel it's just another gimmick feature from Samsung, just like smart scroll, air gestures, heartrate sensor, all the edge features etc. in previous phones.

>Back camera not improved
The camera sensors did get upgraded

I've got an S6 with one 128gb...i unfortunately made a mistake because the battery life is horrible..I was thinking about getting a Oneplus 3T should I keep the S6 and deal with the poor battery life and wait or should I get the OnePlus 3t

This one. 4:3 aspect ratio is perfect for reading, the retina screen is the same one as in the iPad Mini

Sell it and get a OP3T, it'll last you longer meaning you can wait for the S10.

Huawei P8 Lite 2017

Are you going to disconnect the microphone too so they can't listen on you? And always keep it in airplane mode so they can't track you with the cell towers?
>>
>>59672645
It's actually really nice but Google needs to allow multiple options. I'd love to be able to use my fingerprint as a username of sorts and still have to enter my password/pin.

I dunno about bixby's virtue, but Samsung sure is confident in it to throw a full blown dedicated hardware button at it. I wonder if that confidence is justified.

>>59672542
You're probably right, i should just get an old Nokia brickfone.
Then i couldn't play games, but who needs that shit anyway? I can't think of any legitimate uses for it except shitposting on 4chan and maybe looking things up once in a blue moon. I like taking photos but for that i should just get a decent camera.
Maybe I'll do both and carry the nokia around for regular use, then i wouldn't have to worry about getting robbed either.
>>59672661
They can definitely track you even in airplane mode. The wise thing to do would probably be to just not get a smartphone at all

if you do buy one I hope you like it, I've had one on my Z3 compact for two years after hearing about early adopters complaining about brittle glass on front and back. mine's still in great shape, though I have replaced a few screen protectors over the years.

>the fingerprint never leaves your phone
Has this been proven? Kind of hard to believe that it would be so perfectly innocuous, they must have some backdoor way of gathering them.
>>
>>59675981
They're stored in a closed-off part of the CPU, and I'm pretty sure security researcher tested them? I'm not sure though, but from what I gather at least Apple is very good with storing fingerprints walled off from the internet
