Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo
>Consider a B250 or mobo for any Pentium or i3 build
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB

In dawn light of Ryzen, thinking if I should replace my PSU.
I have Corsair cx750(old one from 2013) now. Seems to be working great with 390 and 2600, should I replace it for something more substantial like Seasonic?
With XFR I worry it may give up on me, if it is as aggressive as AMD says.
>>
>>59044624
You're fine. Ryzen won't draw more power than the i7 2600
>>
>>59044624
meh. new hardware is more efficient so you wont ever get near your max Watt so even tho its a CX model you'll be fine.
>>
>>59044644
Forgot to mention I did not OC 2600, it's been in stock for 5 years.
>>
>>59044385
The 5570 is a 7+ year old low profile card that was a budget card even when it was releasd. Saying it will "play" modern games at medium settings just because it has 2 GB of VRAM is stretching the definition of the word "play".
>>

The RX480 is obviously nowhere near 1070 performance and you shouldn't have even replied, but just note that is an outdated graph before the AMD driver updates, which bumped the 480 up a handful of frames

it is.

Yes it will handle it, without a doubt, 100 times yes, unarguably.

That graph was also compiled without testing Sniper Elite 4 or Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which were clear NVIDIA wins and would put the 1060 on top of the 480, if only slightly

I'm aware that pre-built pcs sometimes lock the copy of Windows to the mobo, but there won't be any issue in moving the whole thing into a new case right?

I have an old pre-built HP that's stuffed into a nasty little HP tincan, I'd like to buy a cheap case or a HTPC case to move it into. It's a full ATX tho.
>>
>>59045504
Sorry, fogot to add it. I have a WD black 1tb already.
>>
>>59044624
Eh a CX750 is okay.

Unless you really want to go for an expensive titanium or fanless Seasonic, I'd say wait.

I'm waiting for good SFX fanless PSUs myself. There's very few good SFX PSUs at the moment.

Since your CX750 was made in 2013 before Corsair shit the bed on their lower end PSU quality, it should provide stable enough overclocking power fine.
>>
>>59044747
With the AMD driver updates and throwing out edge case games where Nvidia paid off devs to intentionally shit up AMD performance, the RX480 is more like 85-90% as good on average. Just sample DX12 and Vulkan, and it's even better.

My motherboard is ASRock H67DE3/SI (no info about it on asrock site, only about H67DE3).
>>
>>59045606
Yeah I'm off by like 15%. It's hard to tell since there haven't been many new benchmarks of the RX480 since the driver updates.

But even going by just DX12 and Vulkan games, it's still a bit more than 15% behind the 1070. That's still firmly midrange if it's 70-85% the performance of that $400 card.

>>

>>
>>59046144
A vapor chamber transfers heat similarly to a heatpipe but it can be a square shape, making it ideal for the bottom plate of a cooler because more surface area will be touching your cpu.

It's mostly a marketing gimmick though, traditional heatpipe coolers will perform 98% as well. Fin density and overall cooler volume make a much bigger difference to the performance
>>
>>59047085
They work if you're using refrigerant through a radiator.
>>
>>59047057
Try it and see. If they throttle, just add some thermal tape to contact with the motherboard tray or get heatsinks.
>>
>>59047418
true, but that guy is buying a tower cooler with a vapor chamber integrated.
In that case it's just a gimmick and won't help performance, he's better off getting a Noctua NH-D15

What hardware would you guys recommend for a Lakka ITX build?

I want to run PS1 games with all enhancements on and the GPU internal resolution at x8 with 60fps

Right now its struggling in most PS1 games with an old AMD 64 3200+, 9600GT and 2.5GB RAM.

I'm looking at getting a Pentium G4560 and 4GB RAM thrown into a H110 ITX board/ case.

Do you think the G4560 with its HD610 will cut it for what I'll be asking of it or should I change it out for a i3 7100?

There's also the option of getting a Z170 board and a i3 7350K to OC, but the price/performance difference isn't really worth it in my opinion.
>>
>>59047808
The intel HD610 graphics is actually slightly worse than your old 9600GT
736 vs 743 on passmark

An i3 7100 and it's HD630 graphics achieves 1205 on passmark, so that would probably be a better option

m.2 SSDs can and do get very hot, they can throttle by as much as 75% in worst case scenario tests.

In this test an m.2 SSD on the underside of the motherboard throttled by 50% after less than 60 seconds of a storage benchmark
in another test the SSD throttled by 70% while the whole system was under load (such as while gaming)

their tests also showed that m.2 ssds in an upright position (surrounded by air) showed the least throttling.
To get better performance you should try and sink heat into the motherboard tray with thermal pads.

Remove heatsinks from your RAM and put on lower profile ones.

Yes, AIOs mostly suck ass.
Noctua and Be Quiet high end air coolers perform better than over 90% of AIOs and produce 1/4th the noise of the few that do cool better.

>>
>>59049274
Yeah. Sadly they don't think there is a market for slim, compact ATX cases. I don't know why not.

The board being so big is just more room for stuff overlapping. So you could feasibly have like a 12.5"x10"x4.5" case. But instead the smallest full ATX case I think is the Cooler Master Elite 360 which is like 15"x13"5.2" or something.

ICX is an overreaction to the ACX3.0 having a minor cooling flaw. I'd only go with EVGA because of their warranty and customer support here in the US (and Canada). Outside of the US, there really is no point in going with EVGA.
>>
>>59049461
Yeah removing/replacing heatsinks usually voids the warranty.

Well, not first thing. I benchmarked and stress tested it first. Being a pussy about warranty isn't fun. RMA's take forever, anyway.

Ryzen and the rise of six+ cores as a mainstream CPU.
Intel stumbling and failing to stem the inevitable losses in sales as AMD claws its way back this year until Cannon Lake comes out.
The first i5 for an HEDT socket with the i5-7640K, as well as its sister Kaby Lake-X i7-7750K included as part of the Skylake-X roll-out.
X299 suffering from lower sales due to its higher price-tag over AM4, but still maintaining its price due to exclusivity and production costs.
Cannon Lake debuting the first six-core i7 for a mainstream socket, HT i5s, quad-core i3s, but still on the 14nm node.
AMD's falling flat on its face with Zen-based APUs being limited to just 4 cores and 75% of an RX 460 on its die while Cannon Lake has 50% more cores and a similarly powerful iGPU

I'm looking to buy my first desktop computer, (been on an Acer Aspire laptop for the past 3+ years). The main purpose of the computer would be gaming, and I believe I found one that will work, although I don't entirely know what I'm looking for. 8gb Ram, graphics card is AMD Radeon RX 460, processor is AMD FX 4300.My primary worry is whether or not this will be able to run more recent games well, like Overwatch.
>>
>>59052148
>buying 4 year old AMD FX 1-2 weeks before their brand new processors are coming out
no, you wont be able to run recent games well. that fx 4300 was low-mid-end when it was released several years ago.
>>
>>59052177
Uhh I see nothing about them saying they bought that new. >>59052148 says it's 3 years old.

Anyway, keep your RX460 for now. It's decent enough at least for 30-60fps in current games.

You'll need to get DDR4 memory. 8GB is alright. But you'll need to wait for benchmarks to see how much memory speed and CAS latency really matters on Ryzen.

You'll probably be fine with the cheapest Ryzen CPU, and can just buy whichever you want.

Motherboards... yeah also look at reviews and shit. Some reviewers are going to do "motherboard round-up" comparison type things.

Overwatch is a game that is low end graphics and runs stupidly well. With a good enough CPU I think you should hit over 60fps with it on the cheapest Ryzen CPU ($129, the Ryzen 3 1100)

So yeah. You just need those 3 parts, that's it. Unless you have a shitty PSU, then you should upgrade it. But Ryzen will use less power so you don't need a bigger one.

>Uhh I see nothing about them saying they bought that new

I would need a new motherboard and RAM also, probably a new cooler. I don't want to spend too much right now, maybe 400-500 euros. I can sell my RAM for 70 I think and maybe I can sell the other stuff too.

It is most likely ITX, unless the the mobo I want doesn't have an m.2 wifi/bluetooth card installed (this is more so of guidelines to a future build).
To better rephrase the question:
Should I hope that there will be a "mini" version of the Vega card(s) and go with the very small case (NFC S4 Mini), go with a much bigger case that guarantees compatibility (NCASE M1), or say fuck small and make the build a M-ATX build (Cerberus would be the ideal case, but I have no idea if that will come out within this year)?

I'm not too sensitive on cost. I just want to know if there will be actual performance difference between the two. One has slightly faster latency but the other offers more bandwidth.

I guess I'm more curious at these speeds/latencies, which of the two is actually better? Is 1ns less latency > 400MT/s or the other way around.

Thanks.

It's essentially just as small as an ncase, it's just fatter instead of taller. (and it also costs
If you grab a SFX power supply then you can easily huck a water cooled gaming rig in there if you get a fat radiator (no idea how good the cooling is for air, but I'm assuming that it's fairly good seeing as there's a dedicated GPU grille and a giant intake.

Would highly highly highly advise against the solid front one, it chokes the fuck out of your system.

My computer got pretty fucking toasty when I had the fan plugged into a 5v fan supply but once I realized that issue it's been having awesome temps ever since. My Core2Quad q8300+4GB DDR3+1050TI build is lagging behind processor-wise. I'd keep doing esoteric bullshit like look for a pinmodded 3.6ghz Xeon but the board only supports 4GB ram and that's quickly becoming a huge issue, so it's time for a full mobo upgrade. Gaymen/photo editing, low budget, Argentina.

Can I expect a G4560 to last me a few years/be a decent point to upgrade from if I pick a strong motherboard for it now, or should I just get an SSD to tide me over until Ryzen and the inevitable Intel response to it?

480. more future proof by far, amd is better at improving drivers so it'll only get better while 1060 will stay how it is until EOL. also freesync.

rx480 as it pulls frames on roughly par with the 1060 6gb and pulling far ahead in vulcan and dx12 (not that those matter all that much), drivers will allow for the 480 to pull even further due to indian magic being more powerful than jewish magic.

What percentage of annual pretax income is acceptable to dedicate to a new build?
>>
>>59060101
>annual pretax income
No, nigger
annual POST-tax income
And realistically, you should not spend any portion of your taxable income on a computer build. Save about 10-20% of your monthly post-tax income and put it into a slush fund or investment account and let it grow. Play your cards right and someone with a shitty $30k income could potentially be able to buy a $1000+ PC every year within five years.

so whenever people post thier builds they dont seem to add a sound/networking card. why is that?
>>
>>59060613
Onboard sound and networking is actually good now. People that care more about sound have an external DAC/Amp and unless you want wifi or 10GbE and your motherboard doesn't have that, there's no reason to get a network card.

>>
>>59060239
>>59060248
Irrelevant number without your income.

If your income is only $25k post-tax, and you save $12.5k of that per year, and now it's 1/3rd of a million after 10 years + good investments, that's a lot.

If you make 100k per year and put 50k in for 6 years, that's so easy and not shit.

Ugh.

My GPU performs at about 75% of my needs. The most demanding game I play is GTA V and I get a mostly stable 60fps with most settings on very high or max and no MSAA at 1080p.

However...

This thing is noisy as fuck. When I boot up my PC it sounds like a dirt bike getting kick started and under load there is a massive amount of coil whine. It also draws a ton of power and generates a lot of heat.

Based on performance alone there really is zero justification for upgrading. But based on every other factor an upgrade would be a godsend.

WTF do I do? Right now I'm hoping Vega 11 will be for a decent price and then MAYBE I could justify it but even then it's really excessive.

Which card do you have? The fan you hear when the PC boots up is the CPU fan. You should open up your PC and refresh the thermal paste / clean the CPU radiator. Likely that will solve your GTAV problems too because that is a really CPU intensive game

Doesn't matter, 4GB 480 or 6GB 1060. Check benchmarks for the games you want to play

Oh man stupid question.

I've got an 8320 125w with a 125w chipset and the new AMDs plus my tax refund have me eyeing the 95ws. Would I need to get a new 95w board to not fuck over my system or would I just be generating more heat and need to get a larger cooler?
>>
>>59064510

If you're talking about buying a new Ryzen CPU you will need to buy a new AM4 motherboard.
>>
>>59064642
That answers that question but in general if I wanted something with a lower wattage would it be okay?
>>
>>59064715

Lower wattage just means more power efficiency, which is a good thing.
>>
>>59063240
Get an aftermarket cooler for it for like $40-$50.

It'll void the warranty but you can get one that'll allow it to run full load almost inaudibly quiet, most likely.

If that's too much money, just apply better thermal paste and make sure it's not clogged with dusts.
>>
>>59064872

Should I try reseating the heatsink?

I've never done that with a GPU before.

the thing is i kinda want to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz screen (this doesnt mean every game has to run at 120+, just the online multyplayer stuff. im fine with 60+ fps with everything maxed for aaa games.) but upgrading the screens means gpu upgrade which then means cpu upgrade because most games are still way to single threadet

if you skimp out on the non core components like storage, chassi, psu (dont skimp out too much there) , run a stock cooler and pirate yourself some windaws i guess its possible to build something with a rx470/rx480 which will give you 60fps with everything maxed at 1080p

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/yMnJqk

Anything I'm fucking up?

It's gonna be a ryzen build, so I don't have a CPU/CPU cooler/Motherboard yet.

Really the hardest part of this so far is figuring out the fucking case fans. I'm thinking of an AIO liquid cooler for the CPU, then I'll have the two 120mm GP-14's that come with the case - 1 GP14 for the rear exhaust vent, and the other on the bottom as an intake? Then 2-3 140mm fans for the front intakes?

So I'd be buying 1x AIO, 3x 140mm fans in that case?

Crap, if you want an underclocked i5 wait for Ryzen
Also if you're getting a 1050Ti there's no reason to get anything stronger than a G4560
You don't need an aftermarket cooler
SSD is weak.

With the $125 you save with those changes, get an RX470 or GTX 1060 6GB and a 240GB SSD

>>59066634

The weakness of the build I posted isn't the CPU, it's the gfx card. The 1050 will be outdated long before a G4560
