At least I can resell them for a small profit if they look awful in person.
>>
>>58964986
It would be a very small profit. Carbon barely sold 1000 units and people are reselling them for like 130-150 bucks. Plum looks like its going to surpass that so I'd expect alt east a year before you can make a descent amount of money back, plus there have been times before when the chinks bought like 500 sets and the kept them just to resell them on taobao.

I'm leaning towards Clears but having not tried any so I'm not super confident in that choice - see Current Keyboard response

Could do 100 or 80% w/ arrows but leaning towards the latter. The numpad is nice but I don't use it often enough to miss it.

>Previous/current keyboards
SK-8115. I'm wondering how this compares to mechanical switch types - it feels like there's actuation, so is rubber dome more like tactile than linear? Also with weight - a quick search tells me that rubber domes tend to feel heavier, so would I feel more at home with Clears than Browns?
I think I'd prefer something that's similar to or maybe a little heavier than my current keyboard and with greater tactile response.
>>

currently using an old emachines rubber dome keyboard, had a logitech g510, had a razer blackwidow but 4 of the chink shit switches chattered like crazy from day 1

I'm thinking either Ducky Zero ($79) or Logitech Orion G610 ($86 on sale right now). leaning more towards the orion cuz it's on sale and has my beloved volume wheel but i'm not yet sure if logitech's mechanical keyboards are any good

Who else put their name down for one of these bad boys?
Managed to get into the second round of stock for Cherry Blues / Black case.

Would have put in a pre-order on mechanicalkeyboards, but their intl. shipping and warranty are horrible. Got it cheaper, and shipped intl. on Massdrop.
>>
I was in the last thread...

All keys on my Model M seem to be working, but the Scroll Lock LED doesn't light up...

Is this common? Is it a LED issue?

First Model M user here.
>>
>>58966170
neither get a Ducky One since that comes with Ducky macros V2 which allows you set media keys without having to use FN. By default there are dedicated volume keys above the number pad, plus the build quality is a massive step up above logitech. If you can get the G610 for under 70 bucks then go for it
>>
>>58966387
First of all is the LED broken?
>>
>>58966376
I live in the US so I just pre ordered it off mechanicalkeyboards, do you think they'll ship on time? I'm worried I'm going to be waiting months for it to arrive even though it says it's supposed to come in stock this month.
>>
>>58966447
They should do.
If Massdrop could double down on their stock literally within hours of selling out, mechanicalkeyboards should get their reserved stock and more.
>>
>>58966411
is the ducky zero a downgrade in quality from the one?
>>
>>58966387
Are you in a program that actually uses scroll lock? The scroll lock key on my Leopold does not turn on if I press it while on the desktop.
>>
>>58966509
Its a cheaper version with an uglier case, less features and lower build quality. There is nothing wrong with it, but now that I looked I realized that they raised their prices. It used to be under 100, but only the older stock is still at that price, all of the newer ones are more expnsive, except for the game boy color looking ones, those are still at $99

I think of buying a blank keycap-set. Pic related is just inspiration.

What's /mkg/'s experience with blank keycaps? I think regular typing should be fine but i'm afraid that it will bother me to no end when i have to use certain symbols like / , { , & that i usually don't need often (i'm not a programmer).
>>
>>58972055
Uniqey maybe.
I'm pretty sure they come with GMK keycaps.

>PCB mount
yeah no

besides you can get old cherry keycaps for like 15-30 bucks on places like ebay, deskthority, and even craigslist if you choose to salvage them from old cherry keyboards
>>
>>58972129
>What's /mkg/'s experience with blank keycaps?
I use them on both my home and work keyboards. It's not uncommon for me to make mistakes, especially on the top-right with y to o and 8 to =. However, I make fewer mistakes now than I did starting out with blanks last year.

I actually started out with the Ducky PBT set with unfilled, lasered legends, which look blank at a distance.
>>
>>58972245

Thanks for your answer. I guess i'll just give it a try.
>>
>>58966701
Yeah these were pricey, I actually signed up to be in this but I missed the invoice and didn't pay.

GMK doesn't like small orders I guess
>>
Just got a das keyboard with the volume knob featuring blue switches for $120 new. Did I do good?
>>
>>58972449
no. with every new das keyboard the quality decreases, but the price stays the same. The new ones have chink shit switches and cheap laser etched abs. It used to be pad printed so it's a step up I guess, but the quality is still garbage.
>>
>>58972503

Thank you your input >>58972503 was making me worried.

I am more just excited about how I can order keycaps and don't have to worry about fucking weird keycap sizes. I'll eventually invest into a nice set of PBT keys when something worthwhile comes around on massdrop, but i'll be coasting with the stock keys for a bit.
>>
>>58972560
they do anon and its a fact
http://www.daskeyboard.com/daskeyboard-4-professional-for-mac/
>>
>>58972589
$120 is still to much since you could have gotten cheaper keyboards with better build quality and more features and still have dedicated volume keys
>>
>>58972626
Ok, so they use Greetech for the 4C, their Gamer Trash, and the Mac version of the 4. So as long as he got the standard edition, he still got real Cherry.
>>
>>58972644
Well I already have a keyboard that does that however I specifically wanted a keyboard with backlighting, normal keycap sizes so I could get keycaps later on, as well as volume controls, and after doing much research this was pretty much the only product that really met my needs. Plus having a usb hub and some decent build quality is nice. If you have anything else that meets those needs, please inform me because I have yet to find anything.

You do have options like the Ducky One that also has programmable macros and function layers that way you can set media keys to wherever you want without having to use some silly Fn combo. By default there are volume controls above the number pad. Plus the doubleshot keycaps are a huge step up in quality.
>>
>>58972681
That's a good callout, and thank you for the clarification. The listing I purchased said it was the das keyboard 4 for mac, but the pictures show it's the box for the ultimate one. I will likely end up returning if it doesn't have the real cherry switches. Good looking out.

It's a piece of shit that's known for broken keycaps and dead LEDs. It's massive and looks ugly as shit, and the bottom row is non-standard as hell, so good luck finding some replacement keycaps for that thing. I just hope you didn't get brown switches along with it. Return that keyboard while you can.

So what are the best keycaps in a non-shitty font for backlit keyboards on the market currently?

Recently bought a Ducky and the keycaps are pretty average, some of them block light/aren't made properly, see pic.

Trying to avoid this in buying a translucent PBT set, but there's a handful on eBay, Taobao and Aliexpress, and I don't know where to start.

I took this picture to explain the problem, it's mostly prominent on keys like Pause, PgUp, Home, PgDn, End Del and some things like @, #, $, %, & show issues, F1, F2 and F3 are fine, but F4, F6, F8, F9, F10 are not. Does anyone know what this is called? Is this just because Ducky use mass produced ABS keycaps for their stuff, is there any guarantee that this will be solved if I buy a PBT backlit set?

So I know its probably a memeboard, but I really like the Razer Ornata. I get that some wont like it because it's not a traditional keyboard or because it's almost definitely overpriced and many wont see it as being worth the cost. I however, really do like using it. The keyboard I have before this was the Red Dragon Karura which I liked, but it failed me and I have to return it. What I really like about it are the mid-height keycaps which I've grown custom to using because they feel very similar to laptop keyboards, which I've been solely using for the past 3-4 years. I also really dig how it looks and the included wrist rest too, it feels really plush and like a pillow for my wrists.

I'm the anon with the Anne Pro, and I have seriously long and thin fingers, and that doesn't really make a difference to be honest. It takes a bit getting used to the smaller size, specially on accessing some keys that I use often, such as the arrow keys, PgUp/PgDn, Home/End and the function row, but none of it has bothered me so far. I do have another keyboard that's TKL (without a numpad) which is my main one, so I don't mind some of the limitations of the 60% form factor because it's my secondary keyboard.

As for keycaps, you can check MechanicalKeyboards, Massdrop or even AliExpress if you want cheap ones.

It's honestly the amount of space that bothers me. Then again, this is coming from someone that has used 100% form factor keyboards his entire life.

Maybe it's related to the games I play (mainly MOBA and FPS), but I prefer smaller keyboards for them. I don't use the function row on anything, same for the numpad, and neither the arrow keys on most of them. I've also used full-size keyboards for my entire life, but switching to a TKL was a decision I don't regret. The amount of space I save on my desk is great, and they're a lot more comfortable to play games with, because you don't need to stretch out your arms to use the keyboard and mouse at the same time, so it's easier to keep a more natural posture by making them closer, and it also leaves more space on my mousepad, so I can use lower sensitivities on FPS.

Yes, typing numbers on the number row isn't as comfortable as using a numpad, but if you're doing this much number crunching then it's probably even better to get a separate numpad to put on the left side of the keyboards instead, which still leaves you with the better ergonomics of having a TKL/60%, and you can still use the mouse while doing it.

Yes, got it from Banggood. Took a while for them to ship because the white one with reds was out of stock and Chinese holidays happened, but I had no issues with it. I'm not from the US, so no problems apart from taking a while for my local post office to actually deliver them, but it got here pretty fast and cleared customs easily.

I also think I got one of the newer versions, which you'll also probably get if you buy the ones in back-order right now, because it has the padding on the battery to prevent it from being pierced by the PCB, and I haven't noticed any of the stabilizer issues that people say exist, specially on reds.
>>
>>58982959

I usually don't play MOBAs but I play my fair share of arena shooters and FPSs (though RPGs and strategy games are more my forte) so I appreciate the space between keys. That also being said, I feel like it might be weird having a small keyboard and a large monitor (getting a 24 inch one), but that might just be me trying to justify my possibly shitty purpose. I also like using the numpad for typing in expenses in my annual budget doc. That being said, this is my first mechanical keyboard for my first pc build so I don't know how this will work out. As far as TKL boards go though, I've been looking at the white Qisan as well as the aforementioned VA68m, on top of the Anne Pro for a smaller 60% keyboard, which would you recommend?
>>
>>58983069
Forgot to mention, looking at the EagleTec KG011 boards as well.
>>
>>58983069
I have two 24 inches monitors and I think that only makes smaller keyboards look even better in contrast with them. As for the three keyboards you mentioned, they all range from cheap to expensive, with the Magicforce being the cheapest one and the Varmilo the most expensive, with the Anne Pro around the middle. If you really need the dedicated arrow keys, then you should probably ignore the Anne, and get the one that fits better in your budget, if not, and you want RGB backlights, bluetooth and generally more portability, then the Anne Pro is a good option. I've never seen or remember anyone talking about that other board you mentioned, so I can't really offer any input.
>>
>>58982993
Just ordered black/red, wanted browns. I guess I'll report back regarding the battery and stabilizers. I guess they updated firmware at some point as well so I'll have to check that if I can figure out how. Hopefully the expedited shipping will actually help get the order here faster. Last time I bought something overseas it took a month and a half to get back to me. Anyways, thanks for the quick responses.
>>
>>58983116
Thanks for the suggestions. I may end up just getting the Anne Pro for travel/secondary keyboard purposes later in the year in that case and I can always just get it if/when my logitech board breaks down. I generally get really autistic about symmetry which was why I brought up the contrast with the monitors. As for the Magicforce vs Anne Pro, where I am they are more or less around the same price range but I may end up wanting dedicated arrow keys. I do like the RGB effect on the Anne. Do you have any recommendations for good 60% form factor boards that have dedicated arrow keys though?
>>
>>58983132
Yeah, there was a firmware update. The latest one is 1.4 I think, and checking the version using the Android app, that's the one that came installed on mine, so it should be the latest. There's a subreddit dedicated to the keyboard (/r/AnnePro) and it has some resources, as in download links for the firmware and update tools, and some guides.
Shipping from overseas, specially Asia, usually do take a while, but this one was relatively fast. it took exactly two weeks for it to arrive on my country, and I chose the cheapest Air Parcel option which was like $2.

The Magicforce is usually the most recommended cheap 60%-ish with arrow keys. Another option is a TADA68, which you can get for $60 on Taobao, but then up to $20-30 to get it shipped to you from an agent, varying from shipping option and where you're located, or it's now available on AliExpress for $90 with free shipping.

>>58983185
Thank you. I'll see how the G170+ works out and if it doesn't I'll most likely get either the Magicforce or the Anne Pro (depending on which one is cheaper at the time).

So I've got a unique DEC LK421 in my possession, It's a pretty rare classic keyboard that sports the ANSI UNIX layout.

Is there any way I could get this to work on modern PC hardware? I'd love to use it but obviously in typical DEC nature it's proprietary.

The connector it has is a 4P4C handset jack and from what I know uses either RS-232 or RS-423 serial to communicate.

Any advice or suggestions?

Why are keycap sets so damn expensive? Tbh they are at least half my keyboard and can cost even more.

I'm enjoying my Anne Pro, save for a few things, but I really dislike the key font, though every keyset I checked was either expensive as fuck or inferior (ABS or PBT worse than what's already on here).

Not sure what switches I should get. Only considering cherry. I love my current browns, but I definitely want something at least a tiny bit harder. I would like a little more noise, but I bottom out half my key presses, and that's already fairly loud, so I could probably barely hear the clicks that blues make. Are clears nice?

New to using mechanical keyboards on the regular. This one here is the first one I have ever purchased. It's a Ducky with black cherry switches and it's been good to me so far.

I also own a Focus FK-2001 I literally picked up from a garbage pile. Some of the keys stick and it really doesn't feel all that great. I'll take a pic of that whenever I have it out.

Why would anyone want a keyboard with no number keys?...

I get being compact but that's pushing it by a lot
>>
>>58994673
not everyone is an accountant. Most consumers don't need a numberpad and that was the way of doing things for such a long time. Most engineers back in the day used TKL and consumers used 60-65% keyboards. The only full size keyboards used were generally reserved for admins. For me I need a full size for CAD, but I'm also in the minority. For general use a 65 or 75% keyboard is more then enough since that is the standard
>>
>>58994723

How are Signature Plastics keycaps vs, say, GMK?
