Why FLAC?
>>

So yeah, I think I'm going for SR-207.
Also, SR-507 sure looks nice, but it's more than twice the price for very few improvements (mainly comfort, but not that much).

Yes and no. Most of the time DJ prerecorded what they wanted to say (or whoever they're talking to), edit it a bit, and put it in the "up next" list.

fuck off furfag
>>
>>52647271
its impossible to have 0ms latency for starters, even locally. secondly, their latency is very bad, not anywhere near opus actual average of 10ms
thirdly, there is no benefit to anyone to having a lower latency internet radio. all software, including foobar, buffers it anyway, at a default of i think 1000ms.

latency matters in a communication environment, where data coming back and forth is mission critical. voip, stock trading, etc.
>>
>>52647329
You're yet to use one.
>>
>>52647333
the algorithmic latency is on top of network latency. if you're getting 100ms to a server, opus adds 16 on top of tat, making it 116ms.

>>52648786
The TH-X00 has the same driver as the TH-900 or TH-600 just retuned to be less V shaped. It still doesn't achieve that and it still has a colored sound sig.
Good for bass lovers but it's over hyped by the few thousand people who got them last time. It's still a very exclusive product owned by few so of course
you will have people who hype the shit out of them. They aren't giant killers like people claim they are but are adequate for what they are. Just because it's
on massdrop doesn't make it an amazing deal, they still have to make a profit and that means both massdrop and fostex. That's two companies fighting over
400 dollars. It's just like the K7XXs which got over hyped early on but in order for them to be profitable they cut down on the build quality by manufacturing
them in china. The K7XXs sound just okay for their asking price and so do the TH-X00s. I was certainly not that slack jaw and drooling as some headfiers
looked when i tried the TH-X00s.
>>
>>52648821

>>
>>52648796
>I know that a 600ohm headphone connected to that won't have any volume even if the knob is all turned to the right.
I know that 600 Ohm Beyerdynamic T1 will be equally loud as your K612 Pro. K612 however will strain the amplifier more because of its low impedance leading into higher levels of distortion(although this is will not likely become an audible problem). Like I said, it's not the impedance you want to know.

>>52648821
Haven't heard any QC issuse with those but I'll have to say I would never consider buying them regardless of country manufacture.

>>52648908
>just retuned to be less V shaped.
Which is exactly what makes it more detailed. It's a downward slope with no siginifact dips and peaks unlike the TH-600 and TH-900.
>>
>TFW can't order from budget headphones list because there's a $50-80 shipping fee.

1) AKG started moving their production abroad before the K7XX went on Massdrop
2) as for build and sound quality, there's really no difference between austrian and chinese/slovakian AKG headphones. Actually some chinese models are even better than their austrian counterpart for being more comfortable (no more headbumps on the K702, for example).

Resolving means how detailed and precise audio equipment is. Neutral is the frequency response. You can have a cheap neutral set up but still wouldn't reveal details and micro details like the HD800s. Just like making the TH-X00s more neutral won't bring out that much more detail if the drivers were so-so to begin with.

Plenty of musical instruments do. Headphone measurements cannot track those high frequencies however.
>>
>>52650424
Not trying to dismiss your argument but if imaging is a priority for you then you might want to get into speakers. It all depends on what you want out of a headphone. 400i are pretty great
reference headphones but their imaging is as wide as HD600s which is accurate but not expansive. K612 and K702 are pretty wide sounding but they arent that technically proficient as the
400i or other higher end headphones. We're talking about a 200 dollar difference here so if you are happy with the K702s then don't bother with comparing them to other headphones.

>>52650467
because it doesn't sound good. Open up ableton and try to make a song including pitched tones that cover 10khz to 20khz, i guarantee it will not be pleasant. Our ears are specially tuned for mid range frequencies because that is the vocal range for humans.

k612 doesn't have detachable cable & is easily bought
k7xx is massdrop exclusive
>>
>>52650570

>>
>>52650542
It's not important given the scope of the music industry. Perhaps in movies or other media where those tones make an appearance it will be but that is not to say headphones can't produce those high notes, it's just that headphone and speaker manufacturers try to make the 10khz to 10khz a priority as that is the most common spectrum used throughout many industries.

What makes you think HD 800 will "reveal micro details" better than TH-X00? What is micro detail anyway? What if you equalize both to have nearly identical frequency response? Do you still think the other is more detailed and if so, why?
>>
>>52650692
there is such a thing a driver quality/design and the housing the driver sits on. closed back headphones are subject to resonance.
>>
>>52650588
>Perhaps in movies or other media where those tones make an appearance
Outside of system qualification and measurement procedures with arbitrary frequency constraints and 100 kHz chirps, nothing is going to excite the 10+ kHz range as much as music does.
If we select cymbals as a particular example, it even has very strong harmonics extending octaves above what is considered the usual upper hearing limit.
But yes, the most important frequencies are below 10kHz.

>that is not to say headphones can't produce those high notes
We can't measure them precisely or accurately in a headphone because of the intricate acoustics of the ear and headphone.

So if I understand the tenor of the shitposting in the last couple of thread s (I'm new to hpg):

Veilheisers a shit with recessed mids and highs.

AKG k702 a shit for being excessively bright.

AKG k612 therefore perfect since it pretty much splits the difference between the two?

These properties of being "good" can be defined by frequency response, non-linearity, directivity, these are definite physical quantities.
Vibration modes present themselves in ways that are visible in analysis, by changes in FR, distortion, or laser tracking of frame motion.
>>
>>52651102
That is just FR and easily fixed, which is why it doesn't matter. Arguing over FR is arguing from laziness.
>>
>>52651238
>easily fixed
>>
>>52651102
>AKG k612 therefore perfect since it pretty much splits the difference between the two?
Difference between K702 and K612 is admittedly small. K612 is much closer to K702 than any Sennheiser is to either one of those.

http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/MySTIzoPhones60.pdf

It's interesting to see how some of these boutique headphones perform. That's a planar magnetic headphone. Distortion goes through the roof with high SPL and the FR isn't exactly smooth or extended. Also seems to be really insensitive.

>And in an nutshell, the above perfectly describes what comes out of the IzoPhones-60.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/754271/myst-izophones-60
>At the lower end of frequency range IzoPhones offer a mind-blowing punch, very rapid and attacking. It creates perfect dynamics of bass-heavy music and constitutes a solid and firm foundation, which supports the whole structure of music while keeping other frequency bands, more important in terms of contained information, untouched, transparent and readable. On the downside, relatively to mid- and high- frequencies, bass feels somewhat attenuated. Although it has good extension and speed, it just might lack power and feel weak when listening to music where bass is crucial.

Why do subjective impressions even exist?
>>

Large orchestra - strings, pipes, the works. Chamber music - strings. I'd like the headphone to be able to do both (intimacy of chamber music and a nice natural sound for the majestic, grandiose, large orchestral pieces). Classic rock and folk. Vocals: bass male > contralto female > rest

>>
>>52660614
I'm feeling exactly the same. What I got sounds great, but I can't help but wonder what other headphones would sound like. Particularly I'm curious about what it would be like if I spent 1000 Euro on headphones, instead 250.

With displays it's a lot easier. My 1100 Euro Eizo Foris FS2735 is such an incredible improvement over my S27A850D and QX2710, both in picture quality and responsiveness, I didn't think it was even possible. It's worth every single penny.
It's not that easy with audio. Headphones have no delay, it's power in sound out. The signal is much more simple, and I have a hard time understanding how much it could be improved any more.

> Recommending the K551
It's literally a K550 with a different coat of paint and a cable that feels flimsy as shit and with an inline controls/mic which ads just another failure point to an already cheap looking cable. Best part is that it's not even replaceable.

Myriad of portable devices.
>Preferred type of headphone
Not bothered. Can't be truly full sized though because that will mean they are no longer portable.
>Open or closed
Closed (if not IEM).
>Comfort level
Not bothered.

I'm basically looking for something that I can use outside/on public transport that isn't dogshit tier.

Thanks, friends.

I was thinking something along the lines of Koss Porta Pros in size. All the ones you listed are too large.

I meant like proper knock around headphones.
>>
is there a way to make my q701's sound gud? or is akg just a meme?
>>
>>52663505
What's wrong with them?
>>
>>52663505
akgs early 3k rise and (almost) never falling treble is either a love it or hate it kind of thing.
>>
>>52663503
then get porta pros
>>
>>52660906
It's not about spending more money on them. You can do almost magic with equalizer when using headphones though.
>>
>>52663505
stop being a nigger or just get beats
>>
>>52663543
This. They got the lifetime warranty too so if you ever fuck them up, you get a new pair for the price of shipping.
>>
>>52663543
Is that it? That's what I was looking at but I wasn't sure if there was anything better with that sort of design and price ranger.

Just make sure you upgrade the pads to real pads instead of sponge and get the things situated on your head right. They're still really damn good for what they are.

Where do I get a good quality shorter replacement cord for my new 598s? The included one is laughably long for casual listening, I don't know what to search for, and Amazon seems a bit iffy.

Fuck off from these threads already. I don't know if you're trying to ironically make AKG look bad or something but no one is falling for it.
