Man, isn't this always the case?

I want to believe that it's possible for a cis woman under 30 who grew up in a western society to be the sole developer of, or at least make a significant programming contribution to, an open source hobby project that is not a web, tablet or phone app. I just can't find any evidence of it happening. It seems like every time I see a female name among the contributors of a project I like, they turn out to be trans, or they turn out to be some sort of community manager or something who doesn't actually do much programming. Every time.

comes as a command-line and GTK app

using it often for stuff like bandwidth calculations

(500 Watt year) * (0.25 EUR / kWh) to USD

>>
>>52494508
>>52494500
It's not a printout of the source code, it's just a lot of output printout. There's literally no source code in there, just program output.

Also, she wasn't lead developer on it, she was just ONE of the software developers of the Apollo program.

God I hate it when feminists like you need to exaggerate the achievements of women in technology. You also often keep insisting that Grace Hopper developed the first compiler when she herself debunked that and pointed out that all she did was put the work of several of her (male) colleagues on a single paper tape.
>>
>>52494565
Indeed.
What I think OP's referring to is some skepticism that the books she's standing next to are actually printouts or logs from Apollo. The pic of her went viral a while ago and a lot of people raised that belief.
Eventually someone emailed Margaret for confirmation, and she said:
"In this picture, I am standing next to listings of the actual Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) source code," "To clarify, there are no other kinds of printouts, like debugging printouts, or logs, or what have you, in the picture."
I don't have a source for the followup but basically someone also emailed one of the directors for NASA and asked if they knew anything about it and said something to the extent of "yeah, she's standing next to the source code."

In the last couple of years NASA released it as open source and you can actually download them here: http://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/links.html

From a NASA press release:
https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/a11Hamilton.html

"Margaret Hamilton, leader of the team that developed the flight software for the agency's Apollo missions, has been granted a NASA Exceptional Space Act Award for her scientific and technical contributions."

"The concepts she and her team created became the building blocks for modern software engineering."

"Her concepts of asynchronous software, priority scheduling, end-to-end testing, and man-in-the-loop decision capability, such as priority displays, became the foundation for ultra-reliable software design."

But yeah, she was basically just a typist.

>Other posts have already pointed out that really is source code printouts.
Yes, based on her being asked about it over 40 years later. If you know anything about how memory works it's that several decades after something the details tend to get a big hazy. The book the picture came from, which was written just after the apollo program ended, actually states that it's program printout, not actual source code.

>Whether or not she's standing next to code in that pic (She is.), she was still a major part of the Apollo program, according to many different sources including NASA.
Not saying that she wasn't a major part, just that everything didn't hinge upon her and I already pointed out that you're referring to a press release when press releases, specially this long after the fact, are about as reliable as an advertisement brochure.

>>52494855
Feel free to be pissed off that your source isn't 100% reliable after all, but the threads about this when it was making the rounds on the internet did dig up that book which clearly stated that it was simulation printout and not source code. The reason why we got suspicious in the first place was that it was simply too much text for a single person, male or female, to produce within that time frame.
>>
>>52493851

She was a team leader, it was written by her and her team. Also look at the photos of the contents of those binders, it's pretty spaced out compared to printouts of a modern language.

The source saying she was a team leader is NASA. She was a team leader at NASA. That's about as reliable a source as you can get. What's your source that she wasn't the team leader? Do you have extensive citations for someone else leading that team?

The thread is is LITERALLY one of "famous programs made ONLY by women" and that picture was being circulated very widely across the internet with the assertion that it was all her code not too long ago.

The most annoying thing with modern feminists is that if you disagree with them anything, no matter how small, they say they start asserting that you're literally Hitler or something. I've once had feminist insist that if I disagreed with his assertion that women should be paid more for the same job with the same qualifications, I was also against EVERYTHING feminists have achieved ever since getting women equal legal rights and the vote.

The discussion was about wage gaps and he had to agree that wage gaps exist mostly because women go into different jobs, put in less hours and don't negotiate for wage as often or as well (which is why reddit banned wage negotiations). He still kept his stance that women should be paid just as much as men despite working different jobs, putting in less hours and not negotiating for pay as well and that the solution to this would be to simply pay women more than men for the same work with the same qualifications.

I wish this was just hyperbole or someone trolling, but the guy was dead serious and blocked me so that he could get the last word in and (in his mind at least) win the argument.

There is not a single MRA that is capable of understanding conceptual art because that would require an education that would make being an MRA impossible.
I'm a 100% sure you speak uneducated shit of conceptual art but whatever, that's not the point.
The point is that, for example, 99% of the times you've used the word pretentious was because you are aesthetically too dumb to grasp the piece of art at hand.

>>52496586
You'll just have to trust me on this one because there is no space in this thread on this board to have a sensible discussion on aesthetics.

The fact that you guys think aesthetics are just "my tastes" proves the fact that you're really ignorant of that field which in turn talks of a really high probabilitythat you don't have the right conceptual tools to not be dumb in that regard.

Apparently not..

Amazing statistic, can you back it up with some research?

>The point is that, for example, 99% of the times you've used the word pretentious was because you are aesthetically too dumb to grasp the piece of art at hand.
IIRC the only thing I called pretentious was Bioshock Infinite :^)

>you are aesthetically too dumb
Well, let's say I am. So?

Oh fuck, not this typical feminist "All MRA's are STOOPID" bullshit again...

Also
>Someone calls something pretentious
>Must mean that they don't understand it

Also, aesthetics ARE a matter of opinion and highly subjective. Same goes for art in general.

I just get the feeling you're one of those people who are pretentious-as-shit and when people call them out, they get really pissed and call everyone ignorant or something similar.

Would there be any need? All MRAs are gamers on the internet. There is not a single academically respected MRA nor a serious academically accepted paper on the subject. You're free to prove me wrong.

>you are aesthetically too dumb

Where I'm trying to get to is that women aren't dumber than men (as in are vain monsters that spend their whole days taking selfies and tweeting stuff) and that they're as capable as men to get into STEM fields. There are just social factors (like hte existence of MRAs) that prevent them from getting there and that make them veer towards other fields where they excel.

Just google aesthetics.
>>
>>52496705
That doesn't even make sense. Usually the argument begins because a low of people don't understand that when people say "75c to a man's $1" or whatever else, that across all jobs and all industries, and while there is likely still some disparity in a lot of cases when it comes down to individual jobs it's not nearly as dramatic or prevalent as people believe.

But to admit that the wage gap exists due to a difference in job, qualification and other factors, but still argue that women should make as much, that's just illogical.

Ok.

I'm pretty sure not a single woman had anything to do with cobol. Probably no woman knew what cobol was until the 80s

and yet they suck at that too lol.

MRAs literally hang women from trees.

>>52497508

So unless you hang people from trees you're not discouraging them from hanging and studying around you?

> women
> self-respecting

Topkek. Proprietary software is made for women because they refuse to actually work on anything and want to just be given things.

That's why women are underrepresented in the FOSS community - none of them want to actually learn to code but they seem to think that's something men did when short of cutting off your internet there is literally nothing any of them can do to stop you.

> because of nerds like you
> I don't like having to work with unattractive men who are more interested in their work than me or who will orbit me and heap praise and free assistance on me so I won't enter stem

Nobody is trying to make women not enter STEM. Women are refusing to enter because

A. They don't want to work hard and

B. They don't want to deal with beta nerds, which isn't even that big an issue because in a professional environment they're generally forced to maintain some level of hygiene and decency.

Software is not a fucking boys club, it's a club you have to work to enter, and boys are the only ones willing to do that work and women don't want to be associated with those sorts of people.
