How do you bench 2pl8?
I can't do it, nothing works. I keep stalling at 65kg.

I deload and work my way back up and stall at 65kg so I deload and work my way back up and stall at 65kg and on and on....

4chan standards =/= irl standards.

If the novice program is no longer working, you need an intermediate one, it doesnt matter what your numbers are.

For some people, SS will carry them almost to 2pl8 easily, for others SS might fail them before even 1pl8. Just do what works for you.

You doing 5x5? I stalled at 65x5 for months then dropped it to 65x3 and blasted as many sets every 3 minutes until you fail. I've been doing this once a week, bumping up 2.5kg every week, and now I'm at 75x3. It's absolutely horrible the next day but the extra volume seems to help me. Aim for about 30 reps and rest more if you need.

You could try taking weight off the bar and run 3x8 LP for a while. G Cucks has an article about making your novice prorgram last longer that suggests something similar.

Doing 3x8 @ 50kg gives is more volume then 3x5 @ 65kg. And the former should be easy af. Build back up and when you switch back to fahves you should hopefully be way past 65kg.

You look like you understand what to do on set up but not why you do it, so you make your big wind up but you're still pretty loose after your setup.

Looks like what you've got with the scapulae is on point where you kind of let them sink, but there is no point in your memey first part of the setup is completely changed by the second.

Also you need to get more thoracic arch and less lumbar. A proper setup will help with this but I know some people go as far as having someone put a dowel or small pipe under their arch and seeing how far up they can slide it. Use your leg drive to push in to your traps and let those points fold your upper back.

I actually noticed that about my setup today during the session. More ritual than anything else at this point. Would probably help if I could stay tight and make that setup matter.

Yeah I do definitely arch lumbar more. It's something I've noticed for a while but just haven't really even considered working on it. I'll try the small pipe thing sometime soon.

REEEEEEEEE Why is my kinesthetic awareness totally shit in the squat. Every rep feels totally different, most reps feel awkward, I tend to lose balance and end up doing a paused squat. When squatting in front of a mirror it gets better but thats not a real solution. How do I master the squat? Deadlift on the other hand feels great every time, I can feel the positioning of my spine, head, if my hammies and glutes are engaged or not, where the weight is shifted on the foot, every single rep is identical and I can totally tell what a rep should feel like.

>>
>>35527284
Had some lifting experience for 4 years in general but fooled around with bb shit. Started SS last February.

Best number I reached on the squat was 3x5x110kg in late May. After that came some patellar tendonitis cause I was grinding 3 times a week for many weeks straight on that linear progression. Practically took 5 months to heal completely so restarted in October and built up to 85kg, but was never happy the form all along. I only had like 2 workouts that really felt good on the squat. Decided to switch to high bar recently and even 65kg feels weird.

Deadlift pretty much went perfect all along and reached a PB of 5 singles x 160kg on TM recently. Got sick of the program though along with the really slow upper body lifts progression and started Strength Theory's Intermediate DUP program, currently running week 1.

>>
I'm drafting ideas on bench programming, here's some notes:
Deload then 3x8
5x5
3x5 + 5x8 Assistance

Examples
3x8x50 = 1200
5x5x60 = 1500
3x5x62.5 = 937.5 / 5x8x22.5 = 900 =1837.5

Volume is greatest on the last option, however nothing is stopping me from doing assistance on the first or second option, Assitance volume would just have to be less as not to over work myself. Which may be better due to specificity.

What I don't know is how much volume is ideal for progression and muscle growth.

Where do I find that shit out?.????q
>>
>>35527411
Yes. Why?
>>
>>35527374
Female I take it?

as for tendonitis, a good counter to that is fish oil and Glucoseamine chondroitin.

Have you tried sheiko style pause squats? I feel strongly that they're the best bang for your buck in making one confident in the squat.

Basically, you go to about 50-70% (working up) and do sets of 1-3, and you pause at the sticky point. for a long pause.

Deadlifting once a week isnt that optimal, at least for me. Also I found breaking the dl to pulls to knees and block pulls didnt work for my conventional when I did that for a while after injuring my groin. Iirc norse had issues with conventional block pulls too.
You can add a 4th day and do light-ish deadlifts and some bb fluff.

>>35527496
> 4chan
> female
nah just a mere male weakling

My mistake with tendonitis was not doing active rehab and progressive loading, I opted for total rest thinking it would be best but the tendon practically totally detrained and I had like 2-3 attempts of returning earlier to squatting and stopped because of the pain but the last time I realised that it's that kind of pain that you are expected to get through at the initial rehab stages and then it pretty fixed itself. Also I really worked on hip and ankle mobility to improve my mechanics in the meanwhile.

>sheiko style pause squats
No, I haven't.

>pause at the sticky point
Sticky as in midway of ascent?

> 50-70% (working up)
Working up to 50-70% or working up from 50-70 to heavy singles/doubles/triples? Suppose it's the first since the long pause will highly increase the difficulty of the lift?

in the text book "infinity"

In practice, as much as you can handle. or you MRV (Maximum Recoverable Volume)

But if you're a beginner or even intermediate, you probably don't even need that much to get a stimulus.

>>35527578
Pause going up. So start the squat, descend, come out of the hole, then pause halfway up (the usual sticking spot)

You'll feel very quickly if your hips or knees are in the wrong spot, and you won't be able to maintain that position unless you fix it. Once its fixed, HOLD that position for a minute for some of dat der muscle memory.

>>35527610

>Also, what would you recommend on the 4th day? And what day to do it? mon/wed/fri/sat?
Light deadlifts and maybe some light benching, assistance exercises, or some rehab stuff. Personally I do light deads, very light ohp, light-ish pause deads and some rehab stuff like facepulls.

Bodorio idk if you were here but i went on a mini rant about you.

Its not fair and thinking about you makes me very angry. (not in an unfriendly way, just frustration)

alot of people run sheiko and do well, but you don't just do well - you fucking THRIVE in sheiko it seems. Its just not fair.

All I did was crash and burn, get injured and fuck shit up while you just plunge in and get great returns.

My assumptions were:
>i think bodorio is built better for this
>I can't speak for his schedule, but you never bitch about school / life stresses like me or some people do (this could simply be life perception, or me just being a bitch, or maybe you really did have a less stressful situation)
>you are MUCH much smarter than you lets on in regards to how to control programming, as in it comes much more intuitively to you

wtf? relative to what lol

I assume you mean

>if i normally pull on an eleiko / stiff comparable bar, and i was going to switich to either a WL or DL bar, which one would i pull more on

I would say the deadlift bar would give you the most hands down. i think the overall whippyness is pretty similar, but the DL bar has the added length which gets pretty rediculous under heavy loads. I also should point out that the heavier your dealdift is, the more you'll get out of a DL bar I think.
>>
>>35525029
How do I not psych my self out when trying to break a PR? I've been doing Candito's 6 week strength program to get past my 2pl8. But when the weights started to get heavy in week 5, I got so nervous I was shaking. I was supposed to get 220x1-4. I got 2 reps, but I think I could've done better if I wasn't so nervous. When I started, my projected 1RM was 227, but never actually benched more than 210. I've been lifting for 2 and a half years, but whenever I got close to 2 pl8, I had surgery and pretty much start over. Had surgery 2 summers in a row.
>>
>>35528301
>also think that you handle stress MUCH more effectively. You don't panic, I do. tl;dr I'm high strung
Probably the one with the most truth in it. Physically its far from easy. But I know that you can be VERY fatigued and fucked up and still recover from the peaking. This summer after a guy won nationals and got a pretty easy 800kg total, I asked him what kind of training he does in the locker room. He also went on a mini-rant about young lifters who dont know what volume is. Then he pointed out that in training he was doing HEAVY 2 rep 255kg grinders in the deadlift. I was blown away, he picked up 320kg like it was nothing in the competition. So I re-evaluated my opinion on how bad it really is to be #rekt in training. He also posted a vid with a fairly easy 330kg a week after.

I may seem to thrive in sheiko, but I think I most of all handle it pretty well mentally. Where were times, especially in large load 2(CMS/MCIS 4day) where everything hurt and I had to grind out otherwise ridiculously easy weights. Knowing that a guy who thought 255kg doubles were tough in training could pick up 330kg from the ground made it very easy not to panic.

My situation is also not very stressful, from what I've seen you write about school etc your education is more stressful than mine for sure. Stress shows itself as insomnia for me, because when I'm in bed is the only time in the day where I'm actually allowing myself to feel. It comes with "clearing my mind" and takes some real fucking meditation to get over(if I ever get over it)

>you are MUCH much smarter than you lets on in regards to how to control programming, as in it comes much more intuitively to you
I'm very "learning by doing"- oriented. Usually I cant get anything through my thick skull without trying it myself, and since I'm not super eager to try new things that makes me feel pretty dumb at times.
>>
>>35527827
Found it. Don't really know how reliable the guy is, but he's fairly popular in Norway and has written three books on training, and runs some personal training education or whatever.
Directly translated:

Slow and paused reps:
>better feel for the technique
>better stability and control
>better positional tolerance
Hypotheses:
>better capacity in the heaviest/most difficult positions
>lower intensity = lower recovery demands and less taxing on the CNS? (Or maybe he means "less effect on the CNS", it's not entirely clear.)
>simulation of max attempts/heavy weights
Practical application
>spend more time in the position the lifter is weaker in
>>
>>35528301
>you're off of sheiko things are better?
I think it's better for me, currently, as a lifter. Sheiko seemingly gave me a lot of gains without me realizing, but learned now I was pretty shit at handling heavy weights and I need to get used to it/get this extra practice. This may just be a mental thing where maybe I didn't do the lifts as I should have with non Sheiko weights on the bar. So I'm developing things that translate to bigger numbers. Pretty sure you don't have this problem at all so it's v. individual to me.
>Would you say sheiko is still better for long term progress?
I'd bet it still is but I just need some self-coaching first to really benefit from it. Because my progress was masked and I didn't know I could've gone into 3-4 months lifting with maxes far too low, and I don't fucking know when it's "too easy" or "too hard", I just did the programme

tl;dr i think i'll return to sheiko one day but need to mature more as a lifter first
>>
>>35528374

Anyone's got an explanation for what happened with my squat two days ago?

>set PR in march last year - 155kg
>continue lifting as usual, but focus on DL so squat stalls completely
>haven't lifted properly since august because of travel & judo comp preparation
>squatted exactly twice since late nov
>not even doing any effort, just 3x3x2plate
>start squatting two days ago
>feels light man
>more plates
>repeat
>eventually squat 170kg high bar

Tl;dr: 15kg squat PR after barely having lifted for 4 months. How? Deadlift is actually 5.5plate, so my squat finally seems to be catching up at last, but how the fuck is this possible? Even feels like I could've eked out lmao4plate.

Shooting for 180/120/227.5 by may. Think I can do it, since i also expect to put on some bodyweight.

Is there enough back volume in my programming in comparison to pressing volume?

I could work out back volume, however my chin-ups are very inconsistent. On a rest day I can do 10 chin-ups no problem, but after power cleans or deadlifts I find myself struggling to do 5.

Obviously over time that 5 will increase to 10 or more very easily, but until then I am afraid my back volume may be lacking in comparison to pressing volume?

What do you think?

I'm experimenting with 3x5 pressing movements with 5x10 Assitance, or 5x5 pressing movements with 3x10 Assitance. The latter has greater volume, however I'm simp,y testing it as I do not know which is more beneficial for me.

I am really afraid of rolled forward shoulders and other postural issues as well as a weak back, so how could I alter my training to prevent this?
Economically thinking, as I do not have time or the energy to do a bunch of rear deltoid work after every session and would rather get it in through better assistance choice.

Day 85 blog:
Skwaat: worked up to a 5lb PR of 510 after feeling slow on the warmups. 75lbs until I hit my NYR goal... Kek.

Front squat: didn't have much in the tank, worked up to 315x1.

Hit some dips and incline DB bench for my pressing work.

Face pulls.

How did your skwaats go today boys?

Fuck getting sick is the worst

I'm on the first week of a C6W cycle and doing the easier lower session. I was planning and doing a bunch of front squats after because everything looked easy then ended up finding it hard as shit, sweating all over the place and spaced out. Bullshit teebeeh.

No idea how Phil did a meet sick or whatever a while back

yeah, this has ALWAYS been my problem.

I think i'm pretty good looking, and I actually wear my weight when i'm fat pretty damn well, especially in clothes.

fat chicks cream all over that shit because they think instinctively "that might be the perfect combo of just outside of my league but still attainable"

its a horrible thing to say but when you see it literally day in and day out in 100 different scenarios you sniff it out pretty fast.

god i'm sick of being fat fuck this lol

Do some or all of the following, in no particular order:

>bench more often (grease the groove)

>>

I am crazy inflexible, my form is even worse with conventional.

For a long time I was squatting more than I deadlifted (I squat 2pl8), since I switched to sumo I am at least increasing the weights although, y'know, its probably not too good for my spine.
>>
>>35529639
>when you good morning 2.5pl8
>>
I think I have been benching wrong all this time.

I think I tuck my elbows too much and I'm keeping my pecs out of the movement. I am mostly sure because the soreness is never on the pecs, but on the delts. Contrary to when I do flies or decline.

What's the correct tuck angle and how do I check my form on this? I can't hang a camera from the ceiling.
>>
>>35529598
id probably do that too if i wasn't invited to the gym at first by my curlbro friends.

>>35529619
that sucks man
>>
>>35529639
It's not a problem of inflexibility, your ass is shooting up first because your legs are weak and your brain tells your back to do all the work instead. You are probably not squatting correctly either. Snap city incoming.
>>
>>35529671
Make sure your forearms are perpendicular to the ground from the front and side. Even a slight tuck is ok. Doesn't have to be a lot.
>>

Here's my squat PR of 2pl8 - I'm actually pretty proud of my squat form, I've spent a bit of time working on it over the last month or so. I mean, the 3rd and 5th reps arent ideal, but it was a PR.

What do you think?

I like to near-max 4 weeks out.

3 weeks out, a taper in terms of volume and intensity.

2 weeks out, work up to second attempts in squat and bench. Only 80-85% for DL.

1 week out, squat and bench opener. Light DL.

Depends on your training style though.
>>
>>35529814
Take a session where you start at 50 kg 1*5. Film, and if your form looks good you can increase 5-10 kgs and do another set. Continue like this, film every set and when you reach a weight where you have to try hard to keep good technique, call that point A. When you reach a weight that you can't have good technique on even when you try your hardest, call that point B.

You want to do a lot of work with weights that are somewhere between point A and point B. If you after a while feel that you can handle more weight than point B and still keep good form, redo the process and find a new point A and point B.

>>35529617
program / weight? Part of the reason I train the way I do is because on regimented lower frequency programs if you have one bad day it fucks up the program and your lifting self esteem. When I have a bad day it doesn't matter because I can come in and do better tomorrow, and almost always do. Don't kill yourself over it, bad days are inevitable.
>>
>>35529814
3x5, 5x5, 3x8 even. Depends on what you like, I'm no expert but I can tell you need to practise the movement a lot more.

I don't know what weight you can do with good, you'd just have to pick that. Really concentrate on not letting your hips shoot up at the start of the lift and not letting your back round.

Hammering the squat helps with diddys I've found, I recently broke through a plateau by add a 5x8 squat day once a week.

it does more harm than good to 'find' point B - I don't see the utility at all.

you should be working with weight where you can use good form if the aim is to improve form - so going above that point and training with 'bad form' won't help teach 'good form'.

>>35529814
better off just finding a point that is challenging yet still perfect form and lineally progress from there.

if the point your form breaks down is far below your strength level then there may just be a weakness or cueing issue - learn how to 'fight' for proper positioning. if you don't know how then look up basically any instructional video on sumo.
