I haven't played it in years, but VH was among the least complicated jap games to run. The only real hangup I remember was setting it up on a new system. This was also back on Windows 7. Everything post 7 kind of fucks with jap games in different ways.

You have to change your sys locale to japanese (not emulate) before you extract/install the 2000 RTP or it would fuck everything up. Once the RTP is installed, switch locale back to your regular one. Extract the game and run it with a locale emulator.

Even RyonaRPG was a bigger pain in the ass than that, and it still wasn't that bad. For that one, you had to download the game in two chunks that had to be merged, download the translation over SVN, and manually apply them.
