So you want to learn French? - a guide to learning a foreign language for the motivationally challenged

Alright, so if you want to learn a language, you have to realize a couple of things:
>It requires a lot of effort over a long time period
>Motivation is short-lived
>Dedication is rare, you most likely don't have it

So how to go about this? About five years ago when I stumbled upon Wakfu, I asked myself, "How come English came easily to me back in school, while I barely got through my French classes and I remember jack shit of it?" The answer is vidya. Like probably everyone here, I played (and still play) a lot of video games. And they were all in English. It was then that I decided I would learn French the same way - using my hobbies as a vessel to propel me forward. So I started by setting everything on my computer to French.

Now let me tell you, that was frustrating as hell at first. The first month especially. Basically a non-stop learning session as I had to google stuff constantly. Vidya will be much less enjoyable if you do this. You will not understand almost anything and it will suck. Anyway, I used my initial motivation to focus mainly on grammar and the most common verbs, the basics. When my motivation eventually evaporated, I didn't have to remember to keep learning everyday, that was a given. I'd have to switch my vidya back to English to stop. That's a big deal when it comes to long-term perseverance. Plus. this way you aren't memorizing random words for some daily quota, you look up words because you need to know what they mean. That also makes a difference. Not to mention that even if you don't look up a word, your brain will still pick up the context it was used in. Over time, you'll get a feeling for what exactly the word means. That's even better than simply memorizing the English counterpart.

Speaking of which, context is an amazing thing. If you switch your OS to French, instead of "my computer", you'll see "ordinateur". Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Having context saves a ton of time and effort. Your favorite games and other things that you are already familiar with will be the greatest assets on your journey. Want to rewatch your favorite cartoon? Find the French dub and download that shit. You already know what's happening in the show, but now it's happening in French.

A couple of things to keep in mind if you decide to do this:
>This WILL suck at first, much less so after a month or three.
>You NEED to be willing to make an effort. This method is supposed to provide a constant incentive to learn. It's not magic.
>Do not skip phonetics. Listen. Say things out loud. Repeat what you hear. Practice those sexy French sounds, lest your internal (and external) voice gets stuck with some horrible accent.
>After some time, you won't feel like you're really learning anymore. I don't think I've made any conscious effort to learn in years, which made me underestimate my current skill level. That's what's nice about getting to this point though - you progress, albeit slowly, even if you completely forget that you were trying to learn French. Whatever you do, your progress won't stop as long as you are getting your daily exposure.
>The main advantage of this approach is that you don't just automatically stop when you lose motivation and lack dedication. You have to consciously give up and switch your games back to English first, and that makes a world of difference.

I think that you missed my point mate, im not saying that you need all the legendary(krosfinite) and special cards from krosfinite etc. My point is that there is too much shit to grind for, even if you do get it you still need to grind even more because there is a level system for krosfinite cards, which is a really big turn off for most people and its a big complain from most people. Hell thats why nobody really plays it, and on steam it been dead on arrival, still a fun game truly but wish they dropped the levels and made it less grindy
