Last time, we explored Peter Parker's time with the symbiote and how, after he descovered it was alive, ditched the costume. This led into Eddie Brock and the Sin Eater scandal. We ended the first part with Eddie and the symbiote officially becoming "Venom".
Here, we'll explore Venom's earliest encounters with Spider-Man.

Before the character's first full appearance, there were several teasers leading up to Amazing Spider-Man #300.
This is the first, from Web of Spider-Man vol 1 #18
Interesting bit of trivia: Eddie's hand actually looks feminine here. Before Eddie's character was conceived by David Michelinie, he planned to have it be a woman.
From his interview with Tom DeFalco in the book 'Comics Creators on Spider-Man':
>I originally wanted the character to be a woman. She was pregnant and about to give birth. Her husband is rushing to get her to a hospital. He runs into the road trying to flag down a cab, but the cabbie is looking up at Spider-Man who is fighting someone—it might even be the Living Monolith from my graphic novel. The cabbie doesn’t see the husband and accidentally hits and kills the guy. The woman sees her husband splattered in front of her and she just goes into labor. She loses the child and her mind at the same time, and is institutionalised. Though she eventually gets her mind back, she blames Spider-Man for the death of her husband and her child. The alien costume, which has also been hurt by Peter Parker, is drawn to the woman because of her intense hatred of Spider-Man. The costume then bond with her to try to kill Peter.

I really miss this Venom. I miss his really twisted sense of being a perpetual victim, when in reality he murdered and maimed people just as much, if not more, than the traditional Spider-Man nemesis.
People always say his reason for hating Spider-Man is stupid, and in a straightforward way yes, but not when you actually look at how his character was established in his first three stories. Eddie is psychotic, a man who can't ever perceive himself as anything but one wronged by others, and who better to wrong him than the masked menace Spider-Man, a faceless answer to all his problems.

I've never done a proper 1# to 700# read of Spider-Man so I'm surely missing stuff, but I remember some stuff from the issues where they force Venom to spawn five children that not only was he mentally unstable but also having an entire lifetime of perfectng himself to get his father's love only to be ignored, and falling from grace as a reporter was the ultimate way to embarrass the father he had already failed to impress.

The symbiote didn't lose its memories. It still remembers its time with Brock.
When it went back to planet Klyntar, it got its psychological state cured and had all of its aggressive tendencies removed (which it regained like 8 issues later after it temporarily bonded to Mercurio (pic related).
The whole thing was a cluster fuck of plot ideas.
Why the symbiote didn't mention or act on the whole "deviant" and Green Lantern Ring-knock off schtick makes no sense either, since the symbiotes have genetic memories they pass on to each off spring.

I think the Klyntar hive mind wiped Venom's memories and replaced them with false ones, like that planet being Venom's home planet for example, so it would be more docile as they bring it into their group. Plus with those memories Venom had they now have access to information about every planet they've been to, the kind of lifeforms there, and if there are any other symbiotes.
