The calls for wrestling when they're not to make a joke are usually because my image of swordfighting is based off kf hand fighting with longswords where the first guy to the ground or who loses the dominant position with the sword standing is stabbed.

As for Jaune, since he at least knows the basics, it's actually pretty simple. There's 8 cuts (+ and X overlaid) and three thrust heights (low medium high). All you really need to is get a partner (or preferably like a dozen or so) and drill. Perform and defend against each of them a thousand of times a day for a month and you'll have a decent baseline, but keep up the practice ad infinitum. Then practice linking, offense into offense, offense into defense, defense into offense, and defense into defense. Then start sparring, slowly at first, and work up towards speed gradually, and after a few months of that you'll start to get it.

It's like learning to shoot a firearm: there's no secret to it, it's just lots of hard work and training. There's people with fancy techniques, but they're mostly just shortcuts, and good fundamentals generally trumps them.

Funky specifically evokes a near universally known color set associated with "Rainbow". Cat does not specifically evoke a spectrum that is commonly grouped as a single item (the way rainbow is). Cat can evoke white, blake, every shade of grey between the two, the blue-grey of Russians, orange, tan, cream, blonde (like the lion shade, as well as near-pink strawberry blonde).

It doesn't work.
If you ask someone what they think of when they hear "Funky color" they will be much more consistent than if you say "Cat color". Color sets only work if they are consistently evoked.

2 episodes can be enough. Episode 11 is 17 minutes, which is pretty long. Episode 12 should be even longer if they hope to wrap up the volume somewhat.

In this episode, Ruby Vs Neo/Roman, and Adam Vs Black will be settled. I also think we will see a quick glimpse of Weiss defeating a Paladin by summoning her knight. We also know that Pyrrha will become a maiden this episode. It remains to be seen if she will fight Cinder in this episode or next Also, there's the Grimm Dragon. Can't let something big like that roam free.

Part of episode 12 could be the calm after the storm, where Cinder has either been forced to retreat, or she has left Beacon after having taken Pyrrha's powers. The White Fang have left, and the Grimm invasion has been stopped.

Somewhere in episode 11 and 12, we will have at least one, maybe two Arkos moments.

Where I come from, the premise looks simple but a bit hard to understand. The competitors decide on a deadline (and medium), then put up their dukes by the end of it, and see which fight is more "canon". Not just by popularity, but also by artist skill and plausibility. It's a fun pasttime on DA and some other communities, and a great excuse to improve. Personally I enjoy pitting my autism against other people's in a fistfight and see who wins and how.

Please forgive me anon, Endzone, LoT and EfN were really influential back in my early internet years. It's also why I'm hoarding reference sheets even though I don't see myself drawing those characters in the forseeable future.

Pixiv does a thing called Fantasia where OCs are organized into countries (or created specifically for the project) and then those countries fight using (IIRC) the site's upvote system. It's produced some really amazing content, even from defeats, pic related.

OCs can be classy, you just have to be classy about them. RWBY is a pretty nice setting for original content in general, an interesting, expansive world with just the right amount of magic and technology, safe cities and danger, and a ton of it underdeveloped so you don't have to worry about violating canon. I'm actually surprised RT, given their whole "We love the community" thing hasn't done anything involving user submitted content for the world.

Anyway, as long as you avoid general DA-level Dark Soul-Reaver Lord Xanathaxxir, and as long as people can remember that their characters losing a fantasy fight is not a big deal, it can be done well.
