Switching it up this time, what Semblance/Weapon do you get based on the last book you read? Base it on the MC of the story.

Just finished getting up to date on the Stormlight Archive so:

>Semblance:
Vague Gravity control, I can anchor stuff to other stuff with gravity, pull and push things with the same ability with a bit of finesse and can fly (fall with style) by changing the direction of "down".

>Weapon:
Spear and Shield. As the sig weapon in the series ends up being able to shift and change at will I'll say that the shield is just a shield and the spear and shift into a sword and also a rifle. Just realised that's Pyrrha's set, oh well.

Use semblance to make bullets track to targets and shit I guess. Everything else is pretty obvious. There's also stuff in the book about healing based on being in storms but that's pretty world specific so I'll leave that out.

Well, the heroes have impeded Roman and the White Fang a few times. Not majorly, but they've tried!

From a narrative perspective, it's a journey for the heroes. The audience wants to watch them develop and grow to overcome the villains. If they start off strong enough to beat the villains there's no real conflict or tension and there's nothing moving the plot along.

In a similar vein, villain in this medium tend to be more interesting since they aren't bound by an forced drama or moral strings that the heroes would be.

Personally, I don't mind them playing the long game on beating the villains. Builds up a bit of tension, and gives the heroes more meaningful increases in power.

I'm not exactly approving of what happened to the Nevermore, or the Paladin. Those were threatening once, and then became little more than common mooks in future appearences. It's nice to have this group of villains that are very powerful and will hopefully need hard work and training to overcome.

They actually do pretty good at some aspects. Most Grimm don't phase them except in the largest of numbers. Properly armed and prepared they waltz through White Fang or Junior's Mooks like nobody's business. Blake dominates Roman pretty hard on the train. But clearly team Cinder has been working for this for a while and has quite a bit more experience on their hands. And circumstances conspire to prevent RWBY from working all together.

Well, I mean, the thing to remember is always context. The Giant Nevermore is the big boss the girls have to all work together to take down... during their test to get into school. This is the thing they do on what amounts to their first day. (Though the last episode gives Nevermores some teeth back, pecking on the stadium and Atleasian airships like it ain't no thang).

The Paladins are later pointed out to have been stolen prototypes, and Roman never really got any good shots in during the fight. Mostly the Paladin was just a tank which had a pretty nasty punch in close quarters (which didn't even finish off Yang). Also, isn't it mostly Oobleck who takes out large numbers of Paladins?

The point is Cinder's a good planner not because she can think so far in advance knows what everybody is going to do already and built this perfect plan for it, but she keeps her moves set up in such a way even if things don't go picture perfect she still gets something out of it. No the only reason it seems like that is almost all the plan parts took place off screen for the last two volumes, if we had seen Roman stealing dust successfully, or seen whatever it is Cinder actually does, ect it would have conveyed the plan moving. Sans this we have what looks like them losing at every turn then suddenly winning, it looks like they are doing too good because we have only been shown them failing, it looks like they are rushing for the same reason.
