Have been exploring a roleswap au concept, and wanting to share what I got so far.(If that's okay) Mostly motivated by not being a big fan of Marco with cheekmarks, but still wanted to keep the cardsuits theme. (I recall a variant where he was a candyskeleton who had to worry about getting eaten or something like that. But not sure if it went anywhere.)

This is probably just me but at most I always just tolerated FV's edginess. As of the last few threads it's turned into more deviantart tier autism by the minute. The content is tasteless and uncreative. Even moreso it's just cringeworthy how tryhard and 12 year-old mentality it is.

It's simple and fun.

Don't expect anything amazing or deep, there IS continuity but very light outside a few key episodes.

The show is mostly likeable characters doing stuff, sometimes cute stuff, sometimes silly stuff, its very random but not quite "randumb" like people call shows that are just random for the sake of being random. but there ARE some joke based on that concept. (like the "whats under the carpet" joke)

The show simply is not trying to compete for the title of "best cartoon on air right now", and if you ask me, that's what makes it enjoyable.

Finished the white haired. I'm onto brown haired one, but it may take a while. It's looking like shit at the moment, and partly because it's a jpg file. In fact, right now it look awful because there were so many "dust" and "smoke" particles in the picture that messed up the clothing area. And the skin looks kinda off because the base model is pretty pale. I could try make it look darker, but it may turn out too dark. Any feedback is appreciated.

Personally, I often write for catharsis with a theme and scenario already in mind. I usually add and remove the little trivial things from that as I go, depending on what inspires me. As such, it's a nightmare when I'm trying to write something bigger and less personal, as I am now.
I've noticed it's those trivial things that have the biggest effect on readers, a "20% of the effort producing 80% of the final result" kind of thing.

Yep: the REALLY important thing is not losing momentum: if you're eager to write some part of your story, do THOSE first, and write the buildup later. That also helps you do stuff like foreshadowing, etc.

In "Redeeming", regret is practically the whole impetus for Star; and she's so blinded by her desire to fix her mistakes, she gets head first into making the new ones in the process.
In the end, it's not what she does (or tries to do), that redeems Star, but her heartfelt desire to do just that. That, and finally talking with Marco about that (frankly talking fixes most of the problems, in my stories — and it's kind of ironic, coming from a shy guy like me).
Well, that was my mindset when I wrote, at least.

Like most of life's problems, talking it out is usually the correct solution. People will just go to extreme lengths not to confront that reality for whatever reason.

I certainly thing one of the big dynamics of the show is that idea that by relying on someone else close you can overcome issues before they balloon out of control. That's why Star and Marco's friendship is so cute and perfect, and I feel you capture that in your stories. The question from there then becomes, how can other characters be slotted into a story with this well functioning dynamic in place. That's why I find stories about Star, Marco and X number of classmates interesting.

That is a very interesting question, and one I honestly don't have an clear answer: like I said, I usually start with just the plot idea, and only later, with the theme. So, I guess it's the characters themselves that somehow contribute to help me come out with the story theme?! That's the only thing that comes in mind.
For example: I wanted to make a story with Hope in it, so I started writing "Dueling Stars" with an idea of WHAT she would've done. The WHY and HOW came later with the theme, which also spread to the other characters being in denial of different stuff.

You're right in that there is no clear answer, but through trail and error patterns can emerge and more prominent patterns can be expanded upon. Which is the value of content creators like you during the hiatus times, as we can only receive some form of confirmation through official source, and then the process begins anew. That's why the Touhou fandom is so expansive, because so little is revealed in canological sense, but enough is provided as a platform for further ideas and patterns to grow.

Now in relation to Star vs. that can be both a good and bad thing. Sure, more official content is ideal, but if it skews or flat out debunks the ideas generated during the hiatus I can see a lot of anons being saddened I certainly hope they make Manna at least a possibility.

In relation to your works, I'd say you choose the path of separating the dynamics primarily, which you do very well. Star and Marco have their time with these additional characters, then when it's time to do the business they go off on their own. That works well, but I'd be interested to see if you could make use of a more integrated setup, like Night of the Blonde Devil but with more recognizable characters.
