In Part 2 the co-pubs look at changing demographics, and Lee even hazards a guess:

I'm sure somebody will post one of the numerous posts or pages that explain why he's so based, but the long and short of it is that he is a man or honor, duty, and unwavering resolve. He's always been this, and it seems people haven't fucked it up yet. I think the reason is because normies can't into a horse-faced Thor, so they leave Bill out of many stories, meaning only people who like him end up writing him.
