You like donuts don't you? What is your favorite?
there's a family run donut shop by my house that opens at 5am so I can stop in on my way to work. I usually get a chocolate twist and a large coffee... filling and caffeinated for $3.60
my fav donut shop is pic related in Joliet Illinois, they aren't gourmet donuts, more like a classic Americana donut shop donut. it's open 24 hours year round. Architecture is p chill too
Cinnamon sugar is the best kind of donut ever and anybody who tries to claim otherwise is just lying to themselves. I slightly favor cake donuts but yeast are great too.
these long custard ones
i get some at the supermarket once every two weeks as a treat
Boston Creme ftw.
>tfw Boston Creme is best but gives me diarrhea
Round Rock Donuts is the best I've ever had personally
Even their gimmicky giant donut is delicious
From here; Mound Rd south of 12 Mile in Warren MI (they've also got pasties)
Not trying to be hipster at all, but donuts from chains are fucking gross. Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts, whatever, they're all depressingly bad. Like stale candy. Or worse. They have no texture. A good donut should have a chewiness and "bite" to it, but not be a stale shell full of either emptiness or dense flavorlessness.
Fortunately most cities have at least one really good traditional donut shop. The difference is night and day.
They're not my favorite, but I like them. I prefer the ones filled with fruit preserves rather than jelly though.
My favorites are the simple ones. Plain donuts, French crullers, anything without a lot of doo-dads.
People are often able to enjoy both. Doughnuts are clearly less healthy than fruits and vegetables and whole grains, but people consider the taste a worthy trade-off because it contains the fats and sugars the body naturally craves.
What's your preferred form of sweets/desserts, if you indulge?
I can't think of any place to actually get donuts around here, besides Krispy Kreme.
There's nothing wrong with Krispy Kreme, but they don't offer the variety that I like.
I miss Shipley's Donuts, but they don't come this far east. Texas truly is the best /ck/ state.
we can go after traditional service at the baptist church.
i prefer to wake up early and i enjoy the hymns.
God, I love donuts. Even crappy, store-bought, pre-packaged Krispy Kreme types. They're all good in my book.
When I was in high school, I'd drop by the Krispy Kreme near my house before they closed.
They'd always let me have free donuts since they were going to just throw them out anyway.
I'd buy a milk for my conscience
I used to be a baker at Tim Hortons before they went to frozen donuts. Came up with some pretty good flavors.
>apple fritter with cranberry jelly
>onion and sundried tomato bagels
>chocolate chip and orange zest muffins
I ate so much of that shit
Mapple long john.
Fucking impossible to find here in st louis.
All i find are carmel long johns. Too fucking sweet.
Also i like but can never find an old fashion cake donut like my grandfather used to make. ( he was an army mess sergeant)
I made baked donuts one time. Was a bit skeptical but all in all they turned out way better than I thought.
Not as good as the fried ones of course but definitely good in their own right. If I ever make them again I'd make them smaller dough balls though, they would be easier to eat that way.
Apple fritters, followed very closely by French crullers.
Best donut shop experience ever:
>Shitty day at work
>Have to cover for an extra 6 hours for 2nd shift after an 8 hour shift, only get to go home because they can't legally make me work longer
>Stop by the donut shop nearby
>"I'm going to give you a big tip. Give me a half a dozen of the freshest donuts you have and make me a fresh pot of coffee."
>"Well, the French crullers will come out of the oven in about five minutes"
>Five minutes pass
Chocolate cream filled the best; fight me.
I love donuts. Seriously my favorite pastry when done well.
I barely ever buy or eat them because
A) if they're not done well they are seriously underwhelming (I'm looking at you Dunkin donuts and your half assed custard and jelly filled donuts).
B) if I buy them, theyre gone in 2-3 days.
The Jasonut from Psycho Donuts. Most donuts make me feel ill but I really like this one. The dough isn't particularly sweet and they're always light and fluffy. Also filled with raspberry jam.
Also from Texas originally. Their glazed cake are very very good. I don't care for their yeast donuts much and their sausage rolls are different but okay. They have a bunch of filled donuts but most are way too sweet imo. So I usually jsu tgrt the glazed cake, which I do really like
Shipley, (anglo saxon norther dialect scip (sheep) and leah (a area of flat land, or meadow). In england its not uncommon for families that have lived in the area for hundreds of years to take on the place as a surname. Take the surname Wakefield, another Yorkshire town and the area it is most popular, Wakefield.
Hey dumbass, do you realize most cultures haven't traditionally had surnames, but usually had patronyms or something else? So you move somewhere or a law is passed which requires a surname. A lot of people pick the name of the town they came from.
Ever wonder why there are so many Darbys, al-Baghdadis, Milanos, Romanos, and Horowitzes in the world?
>being this retarded
My own surname, Rodriguez, is a patronym. It means "Son of Roderic." This shit is everywhere. Ever wonder why Jews all seem to have German, Czech, and Polish names? They assumed them from patronyms, the places they grew up or associated with, or just borrowed surnames from the places they came from.
Depends, you could eat nothing but donuts at or below your BMR and not necessarily gain fat. Would your blood pressure quickly rise among other health issues? Yes.
I actually do something where I'm in ketosis for 6 days a week and cycle carbs like donuts for one night. I never see an ounce of it besides water weight - you can feel yourself radiating the heat from not storing the carbs.
If you do that for fat loss, stop it after a few months though- it's not a lifestyle
Does anyone think publix apple fritters are a joke. They have very little apple in them. They have breddy good custard longjhons never ate a jelly doughnut tell i ate one at publix so i guess there ok. also fist time eating two bear claw almond from there pretty much good not worth the money. But to be fair the only other bear claw i have eaten came in rapper.
Sour Cream Glazed.
Old Fashioned Glazed.
Chocolate Cake Glazed.
All from Tim Hortons.
Krispy Kreme for that fucking incredible plain Glazed ring.
Never been a fan of jelly or crème filled stuff.
Chocolate long Johns are alright in a pinch. Never had a maple bar or maple Glazed but I want to now after reading this thread.
I've never been to a non-chain or specialty place before though, so my tastes are probably pretty pleb.
It's not just you. Most glazed donuts form a disgusting sugary crust on the outside that ruins the donut. Glazed donuts mostly appeal to people who want candy donuts instead of delicate fried pastries.
>Go to Krispy Kreme that just opened in my town
>I live in the UK so it isn't all that common here
>Hot girl behind the counter
>Order a couple of nice original glazed doughnuts
>the cute girl makes a joke
>didn't really listen but it is some pun about getting a glazed look in my eyes
>I pretend it is funny and laugh
>decide to joke back with her
>''haha I'd like to get ebola and get a jellied look in my eyes''
>was a joke about ebola giving bloodshot eyes, ie a jelly effect
>she stares at me for 10 seconds
>slowly hands my doughnuts
>try to save it by saying 'if only african hygiene was up to krispy kreme doughnut handling standards''
>doesn't laugh or even pretend to smile
>take my food and go
>they were delicious
fucking sucks man. Too embarrassing to go back
I have to get my doughnuts from the supermarket, nowhere near as much variety.
Stop posting images about how subhuman your desk makes you look.
Not a big fan of donuts that are packed with ridiculous toppings a la Voodoo. Our town went from having zero donut shops to fucking three within a month, and all of them modeled themselves after Voodoo and serve flavor-of-the-month candy/cereal toppings... or the abomination in pic related on top of garbage-tier dough.
Is it so much to ask to get a shop with a simpler menu that serves a great-tasting cake/old fashioneds or boston cremes?
I was never very fond of the frosted ones.
It feels like it weighs down the fluffy dough too much, in a way?
Donuts are not my thing. but I'll murder my mother for an éclair!
I love living near polacks. Its a shame they don't make them year round.
I always think donuts look good, but I'm always disappointed when I eat them. They just taste sort of fatty and vaguely salty.
Maybe I just haven't had a good one. Is it very different when they're fresh? Should I make my own?
Haven't had one in a long time, but plain with powdered sugar is my favourite.
I imagine I'd prefer cinamon/apple or apple cider doughnuts if I could try one. Haven't eaten a doughnut in a year or two though.
Who are these 'people' that buy them regularly and keep doughnut shops in business?
I just went out to get some of these because the store I work at got some in
God damn they are tasty, thank you for the reminder anon. They had a ton of different flavors too-I mean, I've never seen a cream cheese filled donut before.
I like a wide variety I guess: Old-Fashioned & Buttermilk Bars with Chocolate, Maple or straight-up Glazed, Cinnamon Bars or Rolls (Regular or "Crumbed" for either), Blueberry Fritters...
But my favorite is probably the Boston Creme my local shop makes, Their Jelly donuts being a close second (Pic Unrelated).
I guess I'm lucky then, because the only time my place went "Flavor-of-the-Month" was when they made Maple/Bacon bars a few years ago... Though, the only real specialty they've got that could be considered a "Meme Donut" is their Chocolate Chip bar.
>Homemade Cake Doughnuts with the really coarse sugar crystals on them. You usually see them at greasy spoons
Worst doughnut I've ever seen/tasted was a jelly one, but instead of jelly it literally had leftover cake frosting from the bakery.
I love donuts.
I don't think I've ever had a donut I've hated. Even terrible donuts are still alright.
I actually wish to travel to Asia someday and try out donuts from Mister Donut, and Big Apple Donuts & Coffee.
>cake donuts, all varieties
(seriously if you'd rather have a plain glazed donut than a cake donut you're retarded and part of what is wrong with this country)
>maple frosting (pref on cake donut)
what about Paczki, /ck/? it's like a grocery store donut but they don't stock them all the time, seems like just on occasions. I just bought some cream cheese ones the other day and found they weren't as good as the others.
Does anyone remember when Dunkin Donuts sold sprinkle donuts where the sprinkles were in the shape of little elephants?
Or did I just imagine it, because I haven't seen them in years
Creme-filled maple bars are my kryptonite. I used to get two from a gas station for breakfast every morning, but I could easily eat a dozen. I know, it's shameful that I'd eat gas station donuts, much less for almost two years.
A fresh simple glazed yeast donut. There's a place called blue dot i go to run by ex-NOPD officers. You can taste the corruption and nigger beating in every bite.
then apple fritters.
Do you know how I know you are full of shit?
You misspelt "doughnut"2 times and typed "Brit" instead of Briton.
All American misspellings. What purpose does lying about nationality serve?
I've taken a liking to wheat
When that Krispy light comes on, watch out
Seasonal flavourites and limited time onlys
Double chocolate is overkill
I'm come to accept jelly filled
Every try a plain donut with maple icing? Something else senpai
Dubs check em. Also came across this interesting topic some time ago. It's the Poi Donut.
I love donuts
Except american ones
I couldn't finish a krispy kreme, it was like sugar and plastic
Custard are top tanyer
Doesn't sound like you're talking about friendly donuts you should be going there
Disregard any other donut shop if you're in Anaheim I will personally take you to fucking friendly donuts the god send of any donut shop
Plain donuts. For some reason they taste the best. Other types just taste like generic pastry, like I could substitute a chocolate donut with chocolate cake easily, but plain ones taste unlike anything else.
I know you are all baiting me here but why are you all afraid of admitting your love for the cylinder donut-sticks ? No, this is not subliminal homo-stuff. Also, Chinese donut vendors are rude. Once you finish paying for and eating the donut, they chase you out of the store. WTF, CHINA?
True Story: My aunt used to work at a donut shop in Los Angeles. Since she was a immigrant, she still speaks broken English. The manager never gave her a key to anything but went out for lunch. Anyway, a criminal breaks into the store and demands that she gives up all of the cash and unlock all of the registers. She can't understand his American accent but she says that she doesn't have any cash in the store because she is just watching this place for the manager until he returns, the criminal doesn't like this and he starts beating her with a baseball bat in frustration. Eventually he uses a crow-bar on one of the locked registers , it turns up empty. Defeated, he leaves with only donuts and her wallet of non-citizenship papers. It's only later that she finds out that all of the locked registers didn't have cash in them. If he only opened the unlocked one, he would have won $30 in change to show for his violence. Of course, she quit that job and never looked back.
To this day, she is still living in a alley behind a alley in Inglewood because she is too traumatized to look for any more work. :(
IMO every dessert is better with lemon. Like honestly, i couldn't think of one form of sweet that doesn't have a superior lemon form.
This place is amazing. Also have some pretty damn good kolaches
>rape and pillage my way through a Krispy Kreme store as I use my teeth to grab a donut that just came from under the glazer
>b-b-but it's not fresh!
If it needs to be super fresh to be good, it's garbage.
There's a very small chain in my area called Gourmet Donuts that has like 5 locations or so, and I love their apricot filled donuts.
More generally speaking, I like blueberry or double chocolate.
BRACE YOURSELVES, FAGGOTS
DONUT POWER RANKINGS
>Long Johns, unfilled
>Other Iced/Filled than mentioned
>Anything with bacon or "randumb XDDDDD" addons
UNLESS IN SHIT TIER, DONUT HOLE VERSIONS BUMP UP 1/2 STEP. OBJECTIONS TO THIS LIST ARE AUTOMATICALLY INCORRECT. PLEASE WALK IN FRONT OF THE NEAREST SPEEDING BUS.
Anybody here ever been to DONUTMAN?
These things are insane. I can only make it like halfway through one of them before the sweetness overpowers me.
The one in Glendora? Yeah, I have been there, but always when I was with my dad visiting his side of the family. We would always make a deal out of stopping there and getting like a Baker's Dozen of whatever we wanted from there before driving back home to middle-of-fucking-nowhere, CA.
I remember their Tiger Tails and Peach Donuts being the best I've ever had, but I haven't had one from there in a LONG time though (Almost a decade and counting).
This thread makes me really want to go hunt down some crazy donut shops
The only ones we have here are Daylight Donuts that are all run by Koreans.
I havent been to it in a while, but there's a czech bakery in taylor that sells really good ones. theyre on w 4th, in a little purple building. They also sell really good bread, too
To all the fucks in Arizona. You put cream in a maple bar AKA maple cream stick. GET IT FUCKING RIGHT.
Sincerely east coast norms.
This place is right down the street from me, and is apparently loved by a bunch of people for some reason or another
Maybe I got the wrong donuts, but they weren't that great too me. They used something similar to too-sweet canned cake frosting on their frosted and oreo donuts
Otherwise, my faves are old fashion glazed, cinnamon sugar, and custard filled
best breakfast coming through
the donut has vanilla frosting and maple syrup, and was fried in lard so it had a nice crispy exterior
i love oatmeal anything but biting into a donut and being assaulted with a copious amount of any sort of cream or jelly is just not my cup of tea. It detracts from the actual donut in my opinion.
