Post con blues edition
As the xon coes to aclose, let's take a moment to thank those people who made this ALA a little special for yourself. Could be anything from some cute girl or guys giving you a smile to getting plastered all night with with your fellow gulls
Stay safe and see you guys at the next one.
Dammit to many shitty party weebs. Thanks for co-opting my con.
Might as well have been a giant club where you got shitfaced. But you know with costumes.
Other than that it was a fun con
Tfw didnt talk to a single girl who wasnt a slut.
This con was pretty fun. A lot of the panels sucked ass and the halls still seemed really crowded but holy shit you guys know how to make the nights awesome. Thank you guys for the invites to the parties! I had the most fun just shit talking all night on Friday. We were so happy to see everyone again and it was nice meeting you other cucks <3!
Thanks to everyone that was at the secret oldfag party a few doors down. My bar is almost kill.
I thought the con was pretty fun after I got the layout of the area. They need a lot more content to fill up the time and I was a bit disappointed everything started to shut down around 11-12 (ie Karaoke). But parties were good, lots of food options, lots of places to spread out so its not too crowded. ALA did a good job and just needs to work out the kinks for its growth.
I'm a bit sad its not small anymore though. It felt like a mini Fanime this year.
Staffed for Prog Ops, nothing spectacular for me on this. Wish I could have partied but being two miles away and having to be back by 9 every day is a bitch.
But Destiny panel was awesome. Ugh I really wanted to talk to the hosts more about lore and shit but couldn't, oh well.
Anyone give me a proper explanation on what happened on night 1 of radison?
He deserves a Honey
Hey guys dandy here, enjoyed and had fun with you all!(especially those that put up with my bar tending) hope to see you at AX with andrew and the rest.
Should be going as Kamina but might to a Yuru Yuri cosplay with some people
Whoever were cosplaying The Fans, I just want to let you know that I want to fuck Corey into unconsciousness and that you guys genuinely made me happy. I lived out a Hotline Miami 2 moment in real life.
>This party sucks
Everyone there probably got so hammered that they all forgot
Sorry that im shit at interacting and only took photos, I just enjoy hanging out without having to talk much.
>MFW the Radisson doesn't want to do anything with ALA moving forward.
I'm sure they were not too fond of weebs being drunk and almost naked turning the lobby into a massive clusterfuck.
The con space was way too fucking crowded for pictures and there were a fuck ton of cosplay that weren't even anime.
That and there was a lot of generic/repetitive cosplay at this con, you only need so many pictures of X or Y
Having a final drink at the airport before I head home. Had an amazing con, most fun I've had in a super long time and my first ala. thanks for making it awesome seagulls.
>MFW imagining Radisson's face when that lobby clusterfuck
I mean even just trying to find meet up photos. Usually a "did you take my picture" or thread for people to link their photos should up. But I'm not seeing anything. Maybe it's cause people really don't use coscom much anymore and the gathering pages on Facebook don't seem to be getting anybody sharing photos. I was hoping to see photos from the zelda gathering.
>elevators barely worked
>AC didn't work
>showers weren't working in half the rooms
>ice machines all broken
>toilets may or may not have worked depending on luck
I'm so sad, the only redeeming part was how little fucks the staff gave
Look at all these peasants that meet up at ALA every year like a religion, I've occasionally monitored these people over the years. Not one of them has done anything with their lives.
it's so sad this is the end game of this sub culture
All I have, hope everyone gets home safe and had a good time.
The oldschool folks were in my room, which was a couple doors down. That party was too loud and would have been shut down at the old venue, but the ppl running it were cool and it provided a nice distraction for security to keep my room going. Staying another night but its a more chill night tonight.
Thanks for being so cringe.
I'm usually fucking terrible, but you took all the attention off me.
You fuckers had the best party I've been to at a con. Probably. Shit.
Mad props to the 3093 hosts.
They didn't provide a fridge, microwave, working TV, or proper service for our room, and numerous facilities had all measure of issues simply dealing with a moving influx of congoers. They can go fuck themselves in every orifice their staff members possess.
Can't speak for Andrew but I am working with some good deals to try and set up something for us at the Ritz Carlton. Obviously, it will need to be much more controlled, but I think I can cut a deal with some things I have going for me.
I plan on going as Kamina, not dandy(because that would be too hot), just check around when the AX postings on CGL start going up, we both plan to have a decision by then.
>first ALA this year
>go to the Radisson on the 2nd night
>tons of cosplayers getting their drank in the halls at the Radisson
>go to the bathrooms near the game room
>2 of the 4 sinks are filled with the mouth remains of the shitfaced
Yes, we will be at AX this year. We would love it if you were to join us and sign our poster of shame again.
Hey horny Drunk guy who was into traps. What was your steam account name? I couldn't write it down during the party. (No I am not the trap at the party, I was the curly haired guy who drank only coke)
Man, I really feel like I missed out on the party life at ALA.
I was busy with a photoshoot on Sat night and just too dead to party, even though I was right up the hall from the huge 3rd floor Radisson party. I stepped out of my room to go for a stogie right as the mass exodus from the shutdown was happening.
>tfw went party hopping just to take shits in their toilets and not flush
I feel so weird missing out on the ALA partying. I was that guy doing a shoot around midnight on the 3rd floor, so I could hear everything below, but I missed out on most of the actual partying. There were some hot-ass girls wearing close to nothing, makes me kinda sad I didn't mack on them.
>Walked around con constantly
>Managed to meet a lot of new friends and ran into old seagulls
>Somehow managed to dodge every room party and crazy antics
I'm at that weird stage where I'm liked and remembered by a good number of people but get instantly forgotten when it comes to parties as I am not liked enough by everyone to be informed of all the partying.
There were so many cosplayers it was actually kinda weird. Like usually there is a nice mix of normies and cosplayers but it didn't seem to be the case. After seeing x,y,&z so many times it just kinda gets dull. Nothing really stood out too much.
>Tfw watching the Radisson lobby party from a distance
>Wanting to join the fun but don't want to be an awkward fuck that probably ruins the fun.
I'm not a newfag to this con and not autistic. I just have a hard time mixing it with people you probably see a few times a year.
Most of the time you just have to remember his beard
Not in my experience, at least. Back in the pre-'08 or so days, I used to meet single girls at cons all the time and dated or hooked up with quite a few, and then in '08 met the girl who was my GF until 2013.
Well ALA is planned to be there for two more years at least so I'm assuming they have a contract. Radissons are known for being rundown party hotels anyway. Kinda like a step up from a motel six. From what I heard a lot of rooms had issues before congoers even got there. I'm just wondering if people got charged for the damages? I'm not sure if the staff didn't care or if they just didn't know how to handle such a huge situation.
Honestly, if they added more panels/one's that weren't cringefest people wouldn't have resorted to partying so hard so early.
ILU 2 Bleed
Soto bro, now I know you live so close, we WILL be kicking it again soon!
Always a pleasure Pixel!
>Mad props to the 3093 hosts.
Fucking this. All the fucking ALA signs combined with the DJ really made things killer. I know I sent some people I trusted your way and I hope that caused no problems. I told them to tell you Freeman sent them and if any problems were had to get ahold of me. ILU guys. Mini-ALA within the Raddison was one of the highlights of my con.
Was a pleasure to meet you! Hope you had fun!
You're a bro too!
Let's hang whenever possible next con we're both at. I'm always down to chill with some seagulls.
Doesn't fucking matter, none of the room toilets flushed right anyway... none I went in anyway.
>Man, everyone in the Raddison lobby was absolutely sloshed on Saturday night.
I learned a new term that night. "crossfaded"
Always nice to meet new people, hope you had a blast anon, it was nice to see you too!
It's the dead giveaway I'm afraid.
My actual ALA post will be in a little bit, but shit, this was one of the better ones imho.
>All the fucking ALA signs combined with the DJ really made things killer.
Thanks Feeman. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for signing our poster of shame.
Also huge thanks to the dj who took over for me while I partook in extracurricular activities and while feeling sick. You the mvp man.
Did something happen at Farmhouse or the ALA party? I saw quite a few people making comments non-specific about drama or "thanks people who didn't get involved in the saltyness" plus some mentions of at least one person being flat-out missing for a while, and someone making emergency 2am ride requests
Yall get into some wild shit
Thanks for not letting me forget all the shit that kept dropping off my back
And thanks to whoever got me water
>mfw people didn't cut through the pool deck area to the twilight zone elevator to get to the high number rooms and walked from the lobby
Seriously though, day 1, that was so not clear to so many people.
So what exactly was up with the fire alarm at the Double Tree? The manager said it was a false alarm when he let us back in, but I saw the firemen carrying in hoses and at least one police officer enter.
You know what we needed more of? 7-Up and Bud Light.
Anyone go to the monster girl card game panel? One of my friends hosted it.
Staff member here! None of us were alerted to the damages and shit until literally Thursday morning. Apparently, some dumb shit on the 1st floor hung his jacket on one of those 'do not pull' water spouts and it flooded 36 different hotel rooms in the hallway. A lot of staff got moved to different hotels as a result.
>Not giving people your skype/steam to hang out with and play vidya with until next year
Also most of the people lived in either north or south cal so if you are lucky you can hang out with them again before that.
>tfw two people you met at con live literally minutes from your job so you can go chill after work.
What's even cooler is one of them has an open room with rent only a little more expensive than I currently live, so I might be moving in with them. Gotta hang out a LOT before that happens though.
It was someone by our room in the Doubletree. I didn't see what happened, only the aftermath. There was just some charred areas on the carpet by one of the vending machines on the second floor. They cleaned most of it off by the 2nd day.
Does anyone know what happened with some big dude hitting some tiny girl? When I was leaving the dude checking us out said the police had to get called to break up a fight.
Also they said this wasn't that bad of a con, they're used to big rave conventions where it's twice as bad. Liked the new place, going back next year for sure.
They're talking about the group I party with, not the gull parties.
There were police and ambulance outside on Friday. Not sure what the fight was about, but I've seen some disapproving comments about it. If anyone does know what it was about, message me on Facebook because drama sustains me.
Different person here, but from what I heard there was some alcohol/hot sauce challenge going on in one of the hotels and some girl got fucked up by the hot sauce and was taken out in a stretcher.
Who knows how true that is.
Anyone from ConOps? I noticed you guys were keeping an eye on Erni the creeper photographer. Did you guys catch that faggot in the act and had him arrested? You fucks had Ontario police monitoring the place, I was hoping so.
Now that I am home and got a nap in, time to recap the con.
-Tough Crowd panel on day 0 went great, but had a bad time slot
-Cgl meetup had to be located last minute due to the pool being locked off, but it worked out great in the Raddison Lobby. Great turnout, gave away over half of my "Sloshed Seagull" ribbons just at the meetup.
-3080 tripfag party room aka the Relapse Retreat went great, got to party with a bunch of people including a bunch of anons. My appologies to those who I wasn't able to bring over, ~25 people is the max I am comfortable with in the room before it becomes a sauna. I will host more parties in the future
-New con center is pretty sweet, though some of the hotels left a lot to be desired. No ice machines at the Ratchetson meant we had to go on ice runs everyday.
-Free fucking parking
-Jungle juice and space fireball sent many people to the shadow realm
Overall it was fun times, best con in a while and a great way to break in the new venue.
Greentext ALA time? Greentext ALA time...
>See QT cosplayer
>Realize it's Noir from Dog Days
>Ask her if she's cosplaying her just to be sure
>She freaks out that I've been the only person to recognize her
>She says she has a whole group but they thought no one would know
>The group goes to change into full Dog Days and will be right back just for me
>Floating on Cloud Nine
>Wait 3 hours
They never came back. Anyone have any pics of the group if it happened?
Very true anon. I'm not sure what would have happened if they did come back and I got their pictures. Split timelines man.
For what it's worth, our toilet flushed 1 out of 3 times. Our fridge didn't work and when it did it was very noisy. Con phones WERE down during the Farm party. No extra pillows for extra people (even though you did get a lot to begin with). No hot water Sunday morning. Elevator near the party rooms felt like the Tower of Terror on more than one occasion for me. Pool area closed way too early. Overcharged the room then got the charges removed was a hassle. I've got my complaints but honestly what kind of shitty ALA did people have to deter them from the Raddison so badly?
>not getting the $7 voucher from the front desk
The Azures/Ayres was actually pretty nice. The rooms were spacious and had some nice amenities including a minifridge, a sink, a microwave and a single serve coffee maker. I was expecting much less. The only problem I had was our ceiling lights (not the one in the bathroom though) didn't work but to be honest- the lamps were really all we needed.
Forgot to add
>Ask if late checkout is free
>Yes it is, but you can only request it the morning of checkout.
>Wake up ask about late checkout
>Late checkout is only an extra 30 minutes
That one actually pissed me off.
I honestly had a fucking blast, and I talked to you at least five times that con. However, my biggest issue was literally only in the form of "The Radisson". Every party was made fantastic by the people in each party. These various DJ's brought their own shit to the AssMadisson, they could bring their shit to any other hotel as well. The dudes bringing drinks, mixing drinks, serving drinks, and drinking drinks were the ones keeping that boozed up vibe rolling easy. The typical individuals were fun and easygoing, nobody was a stuck-up faggot who actually attended parties. The only thing they did right was ignoring most noise complaints, and even then, they shut down a number of parties.
My room did not have a fridge, the hotel staff ignored our Do Not Disturb signs two times and opened our door asking if we needed service, they didn't give us the keys we needed, and they didn't respond helpfully to any request we had for them. Not to mention our hot water was literally nonexistant on Saturday, but we just laughed and took cold showers while swearing loudly.
The Radisson needs to fix their shit up. I get that it was "our" dorm, but shitty service and maintenance is not forgivable just because it's up to us to have fun.
I know exactly how you feel
>Party over, head back to room
>Do a quick Google search to see if Radissons offer late check outs
>Says they do on website, up to 6pm
>Following morning ask about the late check out
>"Sorry sir, late check out is at 12:30"
we will probably be looking into a suite at the Madisson or one of the other hotels. I am glad you enjoy our bartenders work. Hope to see you nect time in a not so shitty room/hotel.
>shitty service and maintenance is not forgivable just because it's up to us to have fun.
A very good and valid point. Well made.
Here's the thing. If there was another con starting the next day, sure. I believe it. But no.
Please enlighten me? If there's a trick I'd like to know. I can pack my stuff up in less than an hour, I was just concerned about my roomies who were still asleep.
Gamedraco Art and Cosplay on facebook is starting to post up some gathering photos.
Many thanks to Freeman, Dr. Scientist, Mike, nine-ball, Space Dandy, and the many other seagulls I got to meet in the first /cgl/ gathering I got to attend. Especially for hosting the room parties, they were just hype/chill enough that I felt quite comfy. Y'all were as fun to hang out with as I've read about in these threads all these years, hope to see y'all again come Fanime!
Hey, we were all anons once. Nice to meet you.
If you check out it takes them a while to actually check and clean the room, especially if you are doing it on the last day of the con when housekeeping is super busy. That usually buys you a couple of hours. If housekeeping come by you can tell them you are making trips to the car and will be out soon. Just make sure someone is in the room because your key cards will be deactivated.
The hotel was passable but not great, but they let the congoers get away with a lot. I heard about people getting kicked out of the double tree and several other hotels because of noise complaints. Its kind of the trade off you have to accept if you want to host a party.
Glad you had fun anon, next gathering will be more organized because we know the layout of the san jose con center.
>When the DJ begins to spin to Motteke! Sailor Fuku!
I was such weeb trash this con, I'm so disgusted and proud of myself.
Holy shit you guys have no idea how happy to see that it actually happened!
Good times were had! Very busy with the new move and making sure things ran smoothly behind scenes. Aiming to clean things up next year!!!!
I was in the masquerade and then had a panel till 1 AM. Also running a con eats up some time and a half ;P but I hope y'all had a good time for the most part. Gonna be working on some stuff for next year.
If anyone's got any serious concerns, suggestions, or things they'd like to address, you can email em to me.
Yo man, don't take the posters :/
We have a 3 year contract. We'll see what the wrap-up meeting has to offer.
To be honest, it's not the con that does it. It's the attendees. Attendees need about 10% more chill :P
You're correct. *I* don't. Every staff member who volunteers their time does. We all put in some hard work.
I don't know what you're talking about but if someone stole something I'd like to know about it. Please send me an email if this is a serious claim.
Not a bad idea. I will agree that trash cans were not as easy to find in some places than others. And we used to have the cardboard trash cans back at the Marriott. Noted!
The best thing I got from those mystery boxes was a money suit.
Dude, seriously bring up the concern for panels. That was a major complaint I've heard from almost everyone I talked too. There needs to be way more and the guidebook needs to be better updated.
I think the concern was the lack of them I guess?
Could you specify what specifically you'd like to see updated onto the guidebook?? I'll add it to my list. As far as panel amount, during main hours of the day, all the panel rooms had panel listings for most of the day (ranging around 9/10 till 8-10 PM). Did you feel or hear that there were certain places with lack of panels or would you like to see something more diverse??
More ones with the voice actors doing silly shit like last time.
More anime/cartoon/game company connecting with fans.
A Stevens Universe Panel that doesn't have all of it's files corrupted while the panel host tells us about feminism and why you should shut up if you aren't for it.
The AMVs sounded terrible this year. The problem was either the speakers or the acoustics of the room overall. The award ceremony was held in a different room and sounded just fine.
I was part of two panels where we were almost screwed out of what was needed due to tech running out of items (these things were included in the panel description)
1. Tech had to scramble to find a converter box in order for an ipod to be plugged in for audio. When asked why, the staff said they simply ran out.
2. The Radison panel room had an old projector that needed a laptop with a VGA converter with tech was not informed of. This issue was resolved when Tech actually donated their laptop to the panel room.
The tech staff themselves were very helpful and hauled serious ass to get the issues fixed. However I hope that these comments get seen so that they're better prepared next time
First time coner and I loved this con even though it was mostly me people watching. But some things I wish there was more of would be more panels since it seem too lacking. There was so many rooms in the con and in the raddison that could of been used for panels.
I also wish there was more vendors and Artists in the AA since there was so much space to add more.
And desu, I wish Lab Zero was announced as guest since they had a panel on their games and if they were announced as guests, the panel could of gotten more packed.
And I wish the artist alley/dealer's hall didn't close so early since I believe 7pm is too early or atleast make Saturday have longer hours.
Lastly, I wish autographs were held in a room instead of the dealer's hall because it felt so weird being in there when we could of just used an empty room for only autographs.
But congrats to the people running the registrations because that went by so fast on Saturday when waiting for my friend.
I will make sure they do!
>And desu, I wish Lab Zero was announced as guest since they had a panel on their games and if they were announced as guests, the panel could of gotten more packed.
I was the one who set up Lab Zero to come to ALA, and a lot of it got solidified at the last second with them wrapping up Indivisible and their personal work/office situations. Also with their further ventures on Indivisible and how things go for them this year, it might be something to look into if they're interested in coming back and showcasing more of the game.
As for the dealer's hall hours, Saturday it was open from 10-7 which is 9 hrs total. It's already dark out by the time the hall closes.
In regards to autographs, i'll note it and propose it to the team and see if there's another place to host it.
>A Stevens Universe Panel that doesn't have all of it's files corrupted while the panel host tells us about feminism and why you should shut up if you aren't for it.
God I wish I had seen that.
I almost went to the Gen Zed panel just for the pure spectacle of it.
I was in the same area as the Steven Universe gathering. I NOPE'd out of there pretty shortly after it started.
Other people were getting weird errors trying to request me during con too. Sorry about that. Send me your name via tumblr at cglmrfreeman or email me at cglmrfreeman at hotmail and we'll get it sorted out.
I love you for bringing in Lab Zero, Alex Ahad and Persona-sama told me they enjoyed their time talking to fans and being in the AA. I am sure if you talked to them again, they would be more than happy to come back.
Also I went to the JoJo fan panel and the hosts asked for audio sound to play music but never got it.
That's something that's *possible* especially after having Anime Dodgeball and having an actual space to put it. I'd highly recommend that if you'd like to see something, make suggestions whenever the main website or the official FB group/social medias do shoutouts for programming suggestions, (similar to when we did guest suggestions.) Or just post about it and if enough people get behind the idea, it could become something we'll look into bringing. That's the usual procedure.
Long as people stay safe, that's definitely priority #1
> would do anything to see Ankama Wakfu there
Are you serious? After all of Ankama's disastrous handling of the English dub at AX? They failed not once, but twice with the cartoon at AX. Not to mention the disaster that was the Kickstarter.
Now if we could get the genuine article over here, the actual people who worked on the French version, that would be spectacular.
>live in the IE
>met 3 bros who live around me during the con
>a possibility to move in with one of them for cheaper rent and closer to my job
I finally don't feel like a stranded cosplayer anymore.
>Taco Party will never return according to Alec
A catering taco food truck. ALA rents it, free basic tacos for everyone. We can all chill in the big tent and eat tacos late at the convention center. The event is a hit each year, but the line was ridiculous, so why not change it's model?
Actually, Maguma, that's my input for you this con. That's the only change I've wanted for ALA for years.
I was legit so happy to see so many food trucks, but the lack of a truck for a taco party just blew my mind.
It's something to consider but that's all dependent on budgets.
Who knows, maybe it can be done. We'll see.
Taco Party was rough since it was run out of a hotel room and not in a big open space for attendees to sit down and relax. Made it hard to keep a chain of movement going.
The Ice Cream social did happen and that was a success!!
I personally would prefer this. But I'll make a note and submit it to them.
Video Game vids have been used in AMV contests for years. *shrug*
Not sure if it's feasible, but some amount of staff patrolling the hotel during the lobby party (if it happens again) would be nice.
I came across two tubby fucks about to play with a fire extinguisher and told them to put it away and fuck off, but I had places to go and dicks to suck, so I imagine they got into more shit later.
So I'm hearing about this roofie situation at the con, and just want to say, if the guys who did it are here, quit that shit and just try to pick up chicks like a normal person.
Seriously, some of us would like to meet girls at cons the normal way, and that's pretty damn hard when they all think every single guy they don't know is a potential rapist.
My first con and getting ribbons was hard for me since I didn't understand the whole con-culture with it but I at least earned three in the gaming room! It was fun to earn them. And please, someone download the latest step-mania files for DDR.
>See Charizard for the first time in years at con
>He's super beefy and gives nice hugs
>I go in for a double high-five before we go our separate ways in the dealer's hall
>He laces my fingers with his and holds both my hands instead????
I- I don't know you well enough for that, Charizard...
IIRC this is a flashback and was stylized differently than the regular show's animation.
Also, did anyone get any ribbons that were specifically designed for cosplay promotion? I saw one and facepalmed. I mean, that's what the ribbons are really for I guess, promoting.
Yeah, that happened, but people should know not to take drinks from strangers or leave their drinks unattended. It's the same as any bar/club. Even without considering drugs, you don't know what the alcohol content of the drink is, and some people just don't handle certain types of alcohol well.
Not saying it's their fault, and I'm sure we can do better next year, but people need to be aware at large parties.
Piggybacking off this post: Does anyone have any information about a panel in which select attendees were subjected to sort various hotsauces and had to organize them in order of how hot they are?
Besides this being a REALLY bad idea for a panel bit, someone had a reaction to the sauce that didn't mix well with the fireball shots they had earlier and had to be taken away?
This could all be rumor I heard from word of mouth though.
I was there for the last 15 minutes or so of the SU panel. By the time I arrived he was on a segment talking about the sound design of the show and had clips from an episode that best exemplified how well utilized it was. After that concluded he had to skip past the next segment as he didn't have time left to cover it and was about to wrap it up until a staffer told him he had 10 extra minutes for his panel. Even then he wrapped it up early so as to let the next panel set up, when attendees came up to chat he asked them to meet outside so as not to disturb the incoming panel.
Another seagull relayed to me how when feminism was brought up a portion of the room got up and left. Having not been there I can't say how he presented the topic but the impression I got was he was well-spoken and informative. Having worked on panels staff at other conventions this dude seemed legit, guess I don't want to let the one comment I see here go unaddressed for what may of been a good panel after all.
It wasn't for broke people. The con itself was pretty lame and completely disorganized . Vendor hall had really nothing unique, some shit happened in the holiday inn and other shit happened at the radison and other stuff at con hall. It was a fucking joke, the radison made it worth it
>d . Vendor hall had really nothing unique, some shit happened in the holiday inn and other shit happened at the radison and other stuff at con hall. It was a fucking joke
The panels happened on time, the map was organized and information was easy to get too. Plus events that happened in the Radison were the late night ones as the con center closed. Having Radison events allowed for late night programming.
Plus the benefits of the Radison was that the con goers and the pure [arty people were separated and the con center was not full of drunken antics
By some it seems like only 2 friends that belong to a person who posted on facebook.
That really sucks that it happened at all.
Looking at the group posts, are people that really unaware that parties happened at ALA or was it very visual or at least more people witness damages this time?
