It started when i was 15 anon, i learned to play texas holden and got hooked. i read books and online articles, played everyday throughout high school until i moved up to bigger blinds during my senior year. I had around a 1000$ saved up by then and i played 1/2 blinds at a local private club. i made that 1000 into 20,000 over a span of 2 months. I then deposited into full tilt before the black friday happened. I deposited 10k, made it into 150k before cashing out. I got eexreemlyy lucky that it was before that. I deposited some into mutual funds, and stocks, real estate investment, small businesses, online.
>>552548039 Get a job, save money because you need money to make money. But i do know a Chem degree is pretty rigorous, I'm a summing you can't work and hold up a gpa. Treat it like an investment, get the highest GPA possible, esp for chem. Undergrad chem degrees are near useless unless you have a sub-par 4.0.
I took the shortcut, i spent a lot of time perfecting my holdem skills, then learned about the stock market and investments.
I am also a MechEngineer. You won't make a million with a
>>552547125 The thing which I wonder most about is why I'm missing the motivation to fix my life. Or atleast try. As you said you played everyday etc, had that drive to keep going. When I look at seemingly succesfull people they all seem to have something I lack, the motivation , w/e to keep going.I'm just wasting my life away, and I haven't done anything to change that in the past 3 years
>>552548374 I used poker to build a decent bankroll, got into investments and realized its much safer. I love poker, but the swings are too high and risky for me. I caught a lucky -break/run then invested it all to get here. >>552548537 >i'm going to continue on finishing my undergrad degree in MechE and try to go to stanford for another eng degree or business >i am 20 >Depends, what skills/qualities do you possess and can bring forth to me
>>552548643 I played everyday because poker was something i loved. And i also wanted to make it big. I set a goal for myself as stepping stones. I always had this inner drive, i hated to fail. But i treated every failure i had as more motivation to succeed. One thing that might help you is during my junior year of high school i suffered a near fatal accident, one where i was unconscious for a whole day. Woke up in the hospital and decided that i was going to do everything that i wanted to do, life is too short and i need to place my mark.
Are you sure you like chemistry? Do you smoke pot? smoking it everyday can hinder your motivation for some based on personal experience with some of my friends.
also, i like to challenge myself. Thats why i am still trying to complete my mechEng degree even though I'm a millionaire now. i believe education is essential, and i decided when i wanted to try and get one of the most challenging undergraduate degrees available.
The skills I possess are mostly communication skills. I have also had jobs in sales. I can sell anything to almost anyone. Put me on a corner with a bucket of rotten fish and I'll sell it for you. I have some knowledge about stocks and international business and politics, but I'm still learning in those areas. Most of all I can get any job done that is asked of me. You tell me what you need and I will get it for you.
>>552549083 mediumrare >>552549134 shouldn't killyourself, but if thats your death wish ok >>552549384 Let me tell you something, set a goal for yourself right now. Not too easy, not impossible, but a goal that you can't get without hard work. Once you reach that goal you will get that motivation, because you started to realize your potential This is why i am continuing my mech eng degree. everyone told me no way i could do it, why am i going to school if i got this money, etc.
proved them wrong, proved them i can do that math, i gained more self confidence and belief in my self. its an amazing feeling, something money can't buy.
>>552549910 I had some of the hardest years in middle school. i had some serious psychological mind fucking, but look at me now? you can do it too man. i know i got over what happened to me, didn't let it affect my growth.
>>552550409 also the study i'm doing right now is Philosophy. I did Economics before, but I thought if I was going to be doing something for four years it better be something I enjoy and is challenging.
>>552550901 >rich dad poor dad Wow, confirmed for troll. Nobody who is a millionnaire at 20 would ever recommend that shit book that explains nothing (only if you're a very stupid pleb might you grasp some new concepts from it) and the guy who wrote it advocates to invest in precious metals, lmao.
>>552550795 congratulations man! that hard work paid off >>552550786 good luck man, remember have a goal, make it high but reachable with hard work. unlock that potential and you will realize that you can do anything, you can be a millionaire. educate yourself through other people's experience and wisdom, read books, work hard you will get there. >>552550849 do you go to an ivy-league school?
>>552551097 Its a book for motivation not how to invest. I think its a great book for motivation, but then again its only my opinion. he ask talks about some of his experiences, which is always knowledge that you can use
>>552550901 First of all. I can't sell you a pen like this. Because the words we use account only 7% of our total communication. 55% is conveyed via body language and 38% via voice tonality and word intonation. What I can do is explain to you how I would sell you a pen in real life.
First of all I have to get you to like me. Now how and why do people like others? You can rant about this forever, but it comes down to one thing: People like people like themselves. So in order for me to be like you, I have to communicate like you. How do I do that? I could use the same words, but that's way less effective than adopting your body language and use of intonation. This is called mirroring. The other person will subconsciously sense your body language and tonality as similar to their own. Do this correctly and you will gain rapport with this person.
Having rapport is essential for getting through a person's filter and being able to make suggestions to his subconscious. Now I can start selling the pen in a whole variety of ways. I could start creating a need for a pen (like Wolf of Wallstreet). Or I could do something deeper. I could anchor a deeply positive emotion to the pen or a negative emotion to NOT having the pen.
This is the structure of the psychology at work when selling.
Had a business with a kind of niche. Was on about 30k a year. (Bearing in mind I was 15 at the time) And expected growth was quite good. Not so long a friend started to do the same thing and was ruining the market. And finally more people started to do it thus flooding the marking and making it worthless to do.
Now I'm on benefits.
I just can't seem to find niches that don't need huge capital.
Mother used to renovate houses until my dad ruined that, and grandfather was killed by a business rival (Which are now worth 10's of millions). Business doesn't work well in this family.
>>552547125 I've been working as a teacher for 2 years now. In its own ways it is a very rewarding position; your students turn out to be some of the most genuinely good people you've ever known, you get regular paid vacations (including summer vacations, literally all I've done this summer is wake 'n bake, hike, eat, smoke again, drink a lot, go clubbing.... and I've been getting paid this whole time). But, the bureaucracy of administration is an absolute nightmare, and the pay sucks. This will be my last year teaching, I'm giving myself a year to find a program and get accepted. What do I want to do with my life, /b/? preferably something that makes me more than $21000
The thing that holds me back is how my parents continuously told me not to take risks or do anything that would distract from getting a job and working hard to go up the ladder... Well that doesn't really work in 2014, did back in 1950 maybe. I have business ideas, I have things rolling, but a very powerful fear of failure always is there telling me I am going to be punished in the end for even trying.
>>552553346 Everyone has the fear of failure. Personally I have no idea about the stock market and investing outside of my area, but maybe that will work out for you. As for me, my dad used to be a trucker and now runs a truck repair shop, that's where i found my field of work. Started trucking myself, got lucky and got some money and started my own company with 2 trucks at first. I was driving one myself. Later expanded, now I have 8 trucks and I don't drive myself anymore.
Personally I think you'll do good, since you haven't spent the money already. Most people I know would just buy some stupid shit and find themselves broke in 6 months.
>>552553346 listen kid, don't do anything until you don't doubt yourself.
I got my money from knowing that i was good enough to move up the stakes. i made my moves with this in my head
"i might be wrong, but i'm sure as hell am not having any doubts in my decision"
i would just save that money until you have an idea where you your self believe everything will turn out in your favor. until then just do good in school, get educated, get experienced in the real world, then you will know what to do when the time comes
>>552553449 Its good, i am still friends with the same people i was back in high school, although i have made a lot more wealthy friends. my best friends are still the ones that i had since childhood and high school though.
>>552553346 classes/workshops/ etc about stock markets and investing are mostly not worth the money they cost you. sure they will give you some basics and you will learn how some financial products work but that won't make you a sucessful trader/investor. You need to get a feeling for the market and overcome your own psycology ... no class will learn that you are better off if you buy some good books to give you the basics and then try your self... at first without money and just observe how the markets reacts to specific events and get a feeling and then start with just small amounts
thats what i would suggest, but i guess everyone has to find their own way
>>552553489 Usually I'd jump at this opportunity, but I know what it's like to work at a place like that and I wouldn't feel good about taking money from you. I was mainly asking rich/b/ros who sit in a chair all day and make ten times what you or I would make at a job like that so that I wouldn't feel guilty about it.
>>552547125 I'll be a self-made millionaire by about 2022, it's not that hard even making just slightly above pleb salary.
>bought a small delivery business '06 >$1700 cash flow/wk >$1500 after gas and insurance >$78k/yr >hide some of that from state as half my stops collect cash, taxes are fairly low maybe take 10k off 78k >own 300k house I bought in '08, paid off this past winter >own outright 180k business, 20k truck, 25k personal vehicle, 20k vehicle for wife >50k retirement >need 400k in assets before I'm millionaire >68k-20k yr to yr personal expenses >400k / 48 = 8 yrs 'til I'm a not that impressive made millionaire
Hey, I play HS SNG's, and would like to follow a similar path that you have chosen. Do you mind sharing some email/skype contact where I can talk to you about it a bit more? I just turned 23, kinda getting back up on my feet in regards to what I want to do in life etc, would be interested to hear your view on certain things, you seem like a bright guy.
Did you travel the live circuit? Do you have a xyz amount of money, when you stop doing money oriented stuff?
>>552555353 I want to travel, to meet other people, to live with no home, if you get what I mean. But for now I am studying electrical engineer and dont have a more short-term goal. Also I do not study a lot so I am far behind in university and I feel helpless. Don't know if you can feel me but it's like I postpone everything. Can't explain it better.
>>552557836 Do you think you are the only one in the world with money problems. I am a mentally ill reject. I live below the poverty line. I honestly cannot work. Yet, I have self respect, and the knowledge the world don't owe me shit. Especially the rich. Have some pride.
>>552558220 I know full well the world doesn't owe me anything, but what harm does it do to ask? Some people are generous. "Have some pride." I have my pride, and this doesn't hurt it, not asking for help when you need it is stupidity. There's having pride and then theres being fucking stupid about your pride. I would rather ask random strangers for money than freeze to death on the streets.
>>552558984 I don't feel entitled to his money, you seem to be confusing asking and demanding. I simply asked, I don't expect anything, if he's generous enough to give up some of this alleged money, wonderful, if not, what have I lost, what has anyone lost? Just because your Mom beat this wierd "You should never ever ask for anything even if you need it" idea into your head does not make it correct. If it were a starving child, going up to a store and asking if he can have a apple, would you say the same thing? Tell them to die rather than hurt their pride, ask them why they felt entitled to that stores apples?
>>552560058 I am doing, however it doesn't really help if I get kicked out before they get around to doing anything about it, does it? I'm not coveting, I'm not asking for all his money, I don't Want all his money, I just want to not end up homeless, I'm asking him to lend a hand to someone in need.
>>552547125 Why do you think that material wealth makes up for spiritual depravity? Don't worry. Enjoy your time on earth... There is absolutely no purpose to life, and your spiritual progress means nothing at the time of your death.
>>552547125 Hey op how about a loan of 200,000 ill leave it too you in my will and you can come over to my third world palace anytime you want. Bought the house now im broke 200,000 would allow me to live off of interest like a king for the rest of my days.
>>552553830 Hey OP. You say that you still have the same friends as before. But do you then pay for your friends when going out? I won about what would be 3 million US dollars last year and I'm not sure of they demand that I pay for them when going clubbing ect..
