Since you asked, he's pretty much chill. Age is 20, really likes lemon soda and likes to dress casually.
Originally created as edgy nightmare hunter but not as edgy as before. Uses a black enchanted 20 faced dice to summon ethereal weapons to fight (each number a different weapon).
He rolls the dice on the floor and the weapon appears in his hands, the dice magically returns to his pockets after.
For sexual preference, he likes girls but would fuck a guy if he gets interested. Would rather be the active.
His bag is magically crafted and can store all sorts of things but he usually only dumps many comic books in it.

Anyway, this is my OC Maggie Monster. She has a long list of powers (some ripped of from animes) but she only has access to 5 random powers from it, and they change each week. The only power she has and can control all the time is that she can have only a vagina, or a vagina and a 4-5 inch penis, whenever she wants. She's also a pansexual demiromantic.

You can draw her pleasuring herself in any way. Also I just thought of this, but I'd love to see her in Jessie's team rocket uniform from pokemon.

Lin is a tinkerer but She has a heart for adventure. She always wanted to become an adventurer and up until recently it was just a dream. Lin has gained a good friend to help her become at least a "part time adventurer."

Her main motivation is the desire to help others, to be useful to others. She has the soul of a hero but the body of a loser, despite how hard she tries to help it usually ends in failure.

But she never gives up! And in a way, despite failing at everything all the time and being a detriment to the team, her friends are happy she is there and in a way her presence makes everyone else feel a bit stronger.

Her dream is to join the Royal Police Force (which are the game faceless generic storm troopers) but has failed the entry exam 3 years in a row.

Don't give up, Ammy! One day you will finally be a generic faceless trooper!

well, it took a week to design her, and I didn't get nearly what I wanted done today thanks to my back, but here she is. I'm calling her Sen for now, head of her Oni Crew, closet nerd (which she tries to hide from her crew but doesn't succeed).

The utterance "What you wanna fight about it shitlord?" is the reason for her broken horn, she keeps her crew in line with a duo treatment of harsh beatings and savage fuckings. Ask her questions, give suggestions, do what you will, I would love some lewds of her, but for now I must sleep as I have a painful day tomorrow.

Negative anon, I personally explore shapes and silhouette, and then into proportions before thinking about specific features, getting a feel for the character and nailing a silhouette and overall shape language for them first always helps me out, along with the fact that my process for getting those tends to leave little happy accidents that end up being clothing, hair, and other features.

there is no one tried and true method anon, but starting with a blank, base, or template, leads to characters that all feel the same, every professional character designer/animator/modeler will say shape and silhouette are core fundamentals of character design.

This is just my personal experience, but I think OCs are a consequence of a setting and purpose and not so much are born in a vacuum.

An OC has to be part of a universe, either the creator takes an existing universe or the universe is created along the OC. a simple example is that if you want your OC to be a hunter, then he/she has to hunt something, and a reason to hunt, and a place to hunt and of course things to hunt. and their attire has to mach the stuff people in that region of that universe wear and their weapons have to be designed around what they hunt or what they hunt has to be designed around the weapons. That alone creates a lot of things to exist alongside the OC.

For example, my own OC was born as a small part of a much bigger world/story. she was designed out of her surroundings and not so much in a vacuum, her appearance was decided from her role (some details in her color scheme were decided on a homage to a certain gameplay experience I wanted to give the player) her physical appearance was decided on who her parents were and things like having a tan were chosen because she lives in a small village and works a lot under the sun, along many many other details.

But thats just how I do it, I always go with some basic ideas for the design (like gender, hairstyle, color scheme, etc) and then tweak it slowly to fit in whatever role the character will have within the universe.

Not that theres ANYTHING wrong with just focus on the character design and try to make an appealing looking character by itself. in fact that may be the better method and I may be in the wrong with my method. (my characters always end looking very plain and boring since they blend too much with their surroundings) I just like how something as simple as a single character can add a whole web of changes to a setting and how that setting can affect the OC back.

Herny's harpy girl has a lot of wide curves to her even though it makes her look too heavy to fly. She's tapered off at some points to add shape variety of small to large, and back to small again.
This even reflects in her personality in that she's not sharp or scathing and generally plump and pleasant.

Erzebet's whole design is focused around her horns. her face already has a silhouette to it and if you completely blacked her out the only outstanding feature would be her horns. Faces are the main means of expressing and gauging emotions from each other so when we can't see them from masks, glasses, or whatever, it adds an unsettling air to the character. Not the best design but it does have one gimmick.

Disclaimer: Please do not take what I'm about to say as offense.
While the story surrounding him is quite interesting, he's an ordinary guy who could be confused with thousands of other OCs. Average face, body, no expression in gesture, just seems like a mundane figure. The satchel is a slight push towards something unique, but not far enough.
To emphasize his laid back attitude you could do what Hanna-Barbera did for Shaggy from Scooby Doo, give him a slouched posture, long lanky features, loose fitting clothes, things that SHOW on your character without you SAYING anything. Cool concept, character design is lacking.

The Apprentice - Very clear concept in mind, he's all about baseball and has the body of a baseball star from yesteryear.
There's an interesting repeating shape of long slender curved lines which lend to an almost cyborg appearance like Raiden from Metal Gear Revengeance. This outfit is probably what baseball players would wear in the year 21XX. He also has a bit of a mysterious air about him from once again obscuring the face and the fact that he has a blunt weapon.

Pretty good character design.

3ds has a point though, keeping these things in mind can help influence your decisions and give you a direction you want to go, and having a world in mind always helps, the best way to learn though is through doing, don't worry about nailing it the first time, you get better with practice, hell i believe I'm proficent at designing characters are Sen up there still took me a week before i was happy with her, all the while i was asking myself the same questions or thinking the same thoughts 3ds brought up.

One of the main reasons I use that style is because I am really BAD at appealing character designs so I focus on just the designs fitting with the things that surround the character.

Before the topic dies I want to give a little example using RPG Girl.

She has a tan as anyone can tell, she didn't originally had it tho. but what made me add it was that she failing to get the job she wants for 3 years in a row was part of her backstory.

That means she had to settle with working other jobs in the village for those 3 years, and that ofthen means works under the sun, so thats why she has the tan. is not like I wanted to give her the tan as part of her character design, but rather that it would not make sense for her to not have it considering her backstory and surroundings.

Is kinda silly in a way. I wonder how much of her design I actually did out of my own wishes and not just adaptation to story/setting.

Little bit off-topic but I think I read that one of the reasons that happens frequently is under surveillance the females are a lot more stressed out and anxious/paranoid so they're more aggressive towards the males. Some species do it over 50% and that's an Australian one.

How do you guys name your OCs?

I always find it the hardest part. I've just had one drawn up and I'm stuck on a name.

Yeah, coming up with names is one of the hardest things for me, as well. Depending on the theme of the world your character inhabits, online name generators may be helpful. Sometimes I'll use one and just combine parts of names that sound good together or something. Other times I come up with a name first, and build a character that "looks like" a character with that name would have.

Names are always hard man. But here some tricks that may help you:
- Just take note of all the names that you can come up with while watching or thinking about your character and then choose the one(s) that you like.
-Think about your character's personality. Search for meanings behind names for a specific or major characteristic that has to do with your character's personality. Is your character shy? Try to find a clever name that has to do with being shy and stuff.

These 2 methods might not always work but it's a starting point.

Names are hard, I made mainly OCs for old RPG maker games I made years ago and those were named after "themes" like Toriyama does in his mangas.

Characters that I didnt name after themes I usually decided their names last, usually I looked at them and went "hmm... this one looks like a Bob... so it will be named Bob!" I usually like simple names that dont sound too special.

But dont feel bad if you have dificulty naming an OC, I think everyone has trouble choosing the perfect name.

My OC is Venna, and I haven't had much time to draw anything for her. Little brother was over for Xmas and all, so yeah. That having been said, I can fill out the writer challenge, I guess:

Venna is motivated by power. Anything that can make her stronger, more influential, or powerful in any way, is something she will pursue happily and wholeheartedly. At least, that's her opinion of herself. In actual fact, Venna is tired, and easily tempted by anything that could distract her from the sheer boredom of having lived two hundred years in the body of an eighteen-year-old, giving her nigh-thrillseeker tendencies that she will never admit to having. Ever.

well It's a bit of a long story for me. the main reasons are because I use it as my name for almost everything because it feels right, as well as it being the name of one of the main characters in my "novels". lastly it was derived from the name Rimed which is an anagram for (I'm Red) which is my favorite color. I could keep going but I will spare you the headache.

Gwen? I will admit, though, Zone-tan was the inspiration for my proto-proto-Venna, years ago. She's evolved a little since.
