I feel it helps humanize machines by showing they can be just like us in more ways than one imagines. But very few people remember there's an emotional element to this, too.

I enjoy robots because there's this innate feel of... intimacy when making something. Imagine if you make a robot from scratch: you've hurt your fingers countless times, lost so many smaller bits and had to look online for quick fixes and alternatives. When you finally get done, you have a being that's entirely yours, but entirely unique and sentient. Remember back to the first time you made your first computer.
